Old Free Agents

Just curious.

Is it possible to make it so, every off-season, the top free agents aren't all 35+ demanding 4-5 year deals...

Don't think so unless you cut the maximum contract length which would apply to everybody. But what's the problem?

If you think what a guy wants isn't a good deal, don't sign him.. Let some other team make the mistake. Also, any overpriced free agents who are left when spring training starts get real reasonable on what they can be signed for.

My problem is that there is an inordinate amount of 35+ year old free agents, demanding ridiculous contracts lmao.

I know, I can just not sign them, but still...

Why is a 40 year old demanding 4 years 50m?....

The old guys are asking for big money and long contracts either because they're irrational or they're rational and hoping to snag an irrational GM. Seems to me human nature is well represented here.

No "but still". The rest is your answer. If your evaluation of their value is right it makes you smarter than the other GMs, human or computer.

Here's a short discussion of a similar subject you might find interesting.

use what typically happens in your leageu..

do they mostly jsut rot until they sign a 1-2yr smaller contract closer to spring training? if so, you should also wait until their demand drops...

if ai teams are paying them, then you need to jump into the negotiation earlier, obviously.

mostly age and ability wil be the key.. demand can change in any given year, though. i've seen a not so great player have the largest contract in the league.. it happens all the time in real life (ryan howard is a good example of overpaid for 1 good season, lol.)

if this is the first couple years, it may be different later... in any case, some FA season are good and many are bad as far as depth. some settings could help out too, like other said.. i use 7yr max contracts. i'm sure i "see" more now, if tallied, but i can't feel a huge difference from 10yr max, tbh.

The game has a realistic economic and human nature model.
