Rule 5 draft - button disappears to select player

In the Rule 5 draft, when I have no one selected, the skip this pick button is there. When I put a player in the selection box, no button is there to make the selection. Yes, I have space on my 40 man roster. See the attachment for the screen shot.

The Rule 5 Draft on '19 is a mess. It's the poorest implemented part of the game. It's frankly, pretty terrible. Championship level teams taking 1 star guys that hit .220 the year before in AA. Makes ZERO sense.

There's also a bug whereby players that were signed as ML FAs the day before Rule 5 are not being moved out of the DSL.

I've made a couple posts about this and they haven't drawn any interest.

I've been having this issue since OOTP 17 which was my first one, i thinks its related to screen sizing discrepancies of some sort, I always had to exit out of the game and start it back up in order to get the button to appear.

I'm pretty sure the MLB FA/Rule 5 issue is on our radar.

As for the ai taking bad guys, I'd guess we can probably take a look at that and tweak things. I haven't seen this so much in my tests, so maybe it's a matter of opinion.

Either way I'll take a look and if I see this coming up, I'll mention it to Matt when he comes back.

What resolution are you playing in?

I'm playing OOTP 18 and I see the opposite problem. Players don't draft guys that would even be the best player in that position on their team. But if I want, I can draft a player in all 10 rounds and then I can immediately turn around and offer them in trades and get a quite good prospect or MLB level player, and this is on very hard trading difficulty.

The AI leaves a lot to be desired in general when it comes to robustness in dealing with the different aspects and situations that would factor into a human's decision. It doesn't account well for money and salaries, such as when they'll easily give me a bunch of cash in a deal, or be willing to give me their weak and overpaid veterans while agreeing to pay their salaries in full in return for a junk player instead of just releasing the players or anything else.

Actually, that seems like it might be the root of the problems. The AI should judge players in a more mathematical optimized way of getting the best performing team they can. That needs to include a lot of factors, like money. For example, money itself should be worth less to rich teams, meaning they'll be less concerned about the wages of a player or in giving cash away for trades, while low budget teams should place a high value on money and so will seek value for money.

Or judging the value of a prospect should include an assessment of what the average expected value of the player he should develop into will be, given his current age and progress towards his potential.

I think the AI survives now mainly based on stubborness and other things that feel more like hardcoding than a proper algorithm, like how it hangs onto star players even if you offer 5 stars in return.
