Unauthorized Trades

I just started a new Modern NHL game with an expansion team, using the latest patched version of the game.

I am playing as GM + Coach. In the Manager Options I have Transactions, and Initiate and React to Trades set to myself. My assistant is in charge of Roster Moves.

After I completed the expansion draft and advanced one day, I noticed quite a few emails in my inbox, indicating that a number of players that I had just drafted the day before had now been traded to other teams, primarily for draft picks.

Who made these trades? Please let me know, because they are going to be fired.

Re-reading this in the light of day I think it's just your settings. When you put the AI in charge of rosters moves, it's going to make the team the best it can and will move players up, down and out of the organization. Reacting to trades is more if you get an offer on a player. Sounds like your AI just made some trades on it's own.

I can't remember quite off hand but I think the answer is no.

If the team was in extreme cap trouble after the expansion draft and Roster Moves was set to AI, it'll clear cap space by trading players for picks, since it can't get under the cap any other way.

Thanks for the input. I did choose AI Setup Organization at one point, and AI Create Lines. Could this have caused the trades to occur?

Yes Jeff this was the issue. What is the best way to monitor cap space and budget during an expansion draft?

Normally it would, but if you're in Cap Trouble waiving a guy doesn't clear that cap space immediately which you may need.

AI Setup possibly, but if you have them doing Roster Management and you're over, that's the reason.

There was an issue with the drafting showing 0 but it's on the list to get fixed. The easiest way is to just look at your roster screen from time to time.

So after completing the expansion draft, and being over cap space the AI traded away some of my players to get below the cap requirement. I then went to hire a Free Agent and offered him a contract, however, it said that I am over budget.

Why wasn't my expansion team given enough money to pay for players in the draft and hire additional free agents?
