Import league's cities, teams, unis. etc. into different years?

So I've fiddled around with a custom league, set on California's Central Coast, that began play in 1996. Is there a way I can keep everything about the league the same yet change the starting year?

I believe you can do Save As Template then start a new game and Import Template

IIRC, I tried that and the year still came in as 1996.
But I'll give it another shot!

When you save as template, then start another historic game in the season you wish to use. If you don't want any of the teams/players/league of that year, delete the teams and/or leagues.
Go to League->Transactions and on the right-side delete all the players - I'm assuming you only want he players from your '96 league.

Now, go to Game->Settings and import template. That will get all of your '96 players into the current year.

That is how I would do it, but someone may have a better suggestion.
