Adding (all) players after league creation
I've spent a far more time than is quite right setting up a universe of leagues. Now I'm ready to populate them with players. When I created the leagues I chose not hold any inaugural drafts or fill the teams with players because I was still working out the structure. The game does helpfully say the players can populated later.
However, now that it comes to it, I'm not 100% sure how to add players. I'm assuming that I need to use the "Fill Teams with Fictional Players" button on the League Settings->Function page. However, the manual suggest these players will be of lower quality than typical players created. Is that true? I did click on the button anyway, but the game proceeds to ask "Do you want the created player nationalities to be determined according to the Team Nation/Region setting (YES), rather than the League Player Creation/Region setting (NO)?" I really have no idea what this question is getting at. I do want to the players to follow the Default Player Origin percentages I set up for the league; is that NO? |

Go to the Transactions tab and in the top RHC you'll see a dropdown menu where you can create as many players as you need and have some control over their provenance with regard to nationality / age / experience quality. My suggestion is you plan it out before starting the creation process. Get a good cross-section of players in each position as you want them and then do a larger dump of randomly-generated players. From experience, you should also look for a variety of ages / experience in your playing group or else you can get some pretty hinky results the first couple seasons. Good luck! Here to help further if needed. G

Sadly, with a 12 leagues, each drawing on players from a different region of the world, it doesn't seem feasible to do this by hand. I'd be looking at creating 5000+ players one at a time to get the right mix of positions, ages, and national origins.
I've saved the set-up as a template. Presumably,I could start a "new" league using the template and then inaugural drafts would happen for each league? It's a little crazy that there isn't a function for creating an inaugural draft after a league has been created. |

Here's how I set my fictional league up with players once the league is created. I fill each level (majors and all minors) with fictional players. Then go to league setup, Schedule Fantasy Draft. This will release all players from every level and you will have an inaugural draft the next day. If you are in Commish mode you can edit the draft order. When creating players, you don't need to create 1 at a time. You can create them in blocks of 10, 100, 1000, or any number you choose. You can choose nationality, age, ability, etc. So you could create 50 2B that are slightly above avg. Another 50 2B that are avg. Another 100 2b slightly below avg. Whatever you like. |

Thank you! Especially for being patient.
It did work as you described. In the interest of time, I generated a bunch of random players at each of the four development levels for each league. OOTP honored both the PCMs and the national-origin distributions for the league the players were directed at. I am still struggling with one thing: All the leagues are set so that free agents can both join and leave the league. However, every league (except one) has a no foreign player restriction. In general, this seems to be working as expected. A few free agents generated for one league, which have a second nation covered by a different league are showing up in that league's list of free agents. However, one league is set to be unrestricted as to foreign players. Nevertheless, no free agents are visible in this league even though there are several thousand scattered among the other 11 leagues. One wrinkle is that all the leagues are part of a League Alliance. The League Alliance does have the no foreign player restriction set. My understanding is that league settings can override this restriction, but perhaps that's not the case. |
