Um. . . Isn't Perfect Team just OOTP Online?
Haven't played it as I'm not in to tabletop card fantasy games, which is what it looks to be.
Just watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uul6MKQ5M0s It seems to me that PT is just OOTP online but with those sweet, sweet, microtransactions. ![]() Am I wrong? If so - how? What am I missing here?

It's a mode like Ultimate Team or MyTeam, yes.

Remember when you were a kid and you’d collect baseball cards and make pretend lineups out of the cards you pulled and then wished you could actually play games with them… it’s like that, but more fun.

Ultimate Team is the biggest mode in EA's FIFA and Madden video games. You buy/earn packs of cards and play against others who do the same thing. They add in special edition cards, historical cards and stuff like that, so it's a bit of fantasy sports combined with the video game of choice. It makes EA nearly 2 billion dollars a year. MyTeam is just the NBA version of that for the 2K games. The Show has Diamond Dynasty which is pretty much the same thing. Diamond Dynasty and PT are the only ones I play, and I don't really spend money on them and just treat them as fun collecting mini-games.

They aren't telling you it's a lifelong investment to spend your savings on, I'd hardly call it predatory. These modes have been around for well over a decade now, if you wanna complain about them it should probably be from a different angle.

All you have to do if you do not like the format is to... <drum roll>... don't play.

Predatory monetization schemes (e.g., 'loot boxes') in video games are purchasing systems that disguise or withhold the long-term cost of the activity until players are already financially and psychologically committed. Such schemes contribute to the increasing similarity of gaming and gambling and the potential for financial harm for those with Internet gaming disorder. But your right it’s been over 10 years now, everyone knows it’s only predatory for the first 10 years after that to each their own. Not like the new owners aren’t known for milking those sweet sweet micro transactions, good thing it’s been ten years so it’s ok now.

The financial harm is only part of the picture. The money spent on UT/PT was never a problem for me. It was the intense grind and time sink - needing to be by my computer/console a ton in order to keep up a moderately decent team. The dedication to the grind is a competitive itch all its own, but for me over time has worn out its welcome. This year my hope is to be a very casual PT player and not worry about any of the grind - no tournaments, etc - and just be happy with the meager cards I have, and learn a little bit about some historical players, win or lose, and put more attention toward my online OOTP team. It's up to each individual to decide if a game mode is just an involved hobby, or becoming something that is holding back or hurting their general quality of life. I enjoy PT. Don't spend a dime on it, but I enjoy ripping packs and completing as many collections as I can.
I can do it this way because I have no illusions of making it to a perfect league or even close. So, I just enjoy what I can do.

Yeah the missions are why I play. So I work on completing those and never spend any money on it.

Missions are awesome, in both OOTP 21 and 22 I've completed the main missions saga without spending anything either. Missions are definitely one of the best parts of PT.

Please, let's not pretend the setup isn't explicitly designed to pull people in and keep them there. It is, at very, very best, unethical in the extreme.
Just because you've normalized and internalized abusive gameplay mechanisms doesn't mean the rest of us have. And it's certainly wildly inappropriate to push ALL responsibility off on the party with zero say in the matter. Pretending there's no harm being done and it somehow not being done deliberately is being obtuse. You play one of the most complicated games ever created, you can do better than obtuse. |

Wow, some of these posts make PT sound like the evil empire. I've never had the slightest curiosity, nor the time, with several historical season sims running at any given time. I don't see the point, but no worries as to those who enjoy it. Some say PT supports OOTP financially, which, if true, at least makes it a necessary evil, if evil it is. Pretty sure anybody playing is going in eyes open. Spending more dollars on game enhancements is just another decision about how to "spend" free time, like going to a ballgame or a casino. To each his or her own, I say.

I stopped playing PT after first couple of years... time sink.
but it was fun. it did appear that making it to the top league was not possible without throwing $s at it. So I never came close to top. Then I lost interest in it... when I purchase the packs remain unopened and I dont explore that part of the game I paid for anymore. These missions sound interesting but I know the time sink PT is and will let others have that fun - LOL |
