"Auction House" (Card Shop) Changes, 1 year later

Howdy all, 8-9 year OOTP vet here, and (obviously) have played PT from day-1.

I have over 2,000 hours in each OOTP game (purchased through Steam); I primarily played PT over that time. Without spending a dime, I've won multiple Perfect Level WS every year PT has existed.

But, this year, I've "only" put 400 hours into the game, never having surpassed Bronze. Why?

This isn't because I couldn't adapt to the changes. It's because PT didn't feel immersive whatsoever. I largely attriubute that to the "Auction House" (Card Shop) changes.

No longer does it feel as if other players are online. I feel detached to the multiplayer aspect of the game, which is quite literally the only draw to PT.

At this point, I'm uninclined to purchase OOTP24 (or whatever it'll be named), as there's effectively no multiplayer, and losing Foreign League licenses shows that our save files are not safe.

I don't believe we'll receive the product we've grown to love.

Thoughts?

Hey, Fab! Ever notice most of the ragequits are three-post-Timmy’s?

Seems like a trend for sure. The biggest bummer is that the Card Shop is about 10-billion times better than the auction house was. He and his multiple PL championships will be missed.

I can't for the life of me figure out why anybody would prefer the old auction house over the current card shop? I have complaints with the game this year (missions!), but the card shop is the number one improvement, imo.

I absolutely love the missions. Selling cards to mission lovers is just so-o-o-o lucrative. I hope they don't change. Agree about the card shop. So many times, I put up a buy order with everything I have, but less than I would be willing to pay and makes me very happy when someone fills the order! That cannot happen with the old AH.

Hooray for the Card Shop

Only one further improvement seems necessary - if you quick sell a card, and there is a bid higher than the buyback minimum, you should fill the highest or oldest buy order instead of selling it to the bank.

Failing that, the manage cards display should show the highest bid, not the lowest offer. Why would I care what the lowest offer is for a card I already own?

Either of these changes would enable a better return on the Irons and Bronzes and Silvers you get in packs.

BTW, the Card Shop seems like it's easier to connect with others than the Auction House made it.

You can go in an add that manually, but it for sure should be in there by default.

This year's AH (or is it CS now) is tremendously better than any other.

What a lovely person you are! Sorry I spend more time playing the game and living life than posting on a forum. Do you have anything of structure to add, or are you just replying to fill your time? All of my friends agree, so I thought I'd get some input from others. Some advice: at least pose a question like this guy...

I prefer the older card shop because price exploitation is a larger issue than in prior releases; one reason is a lower player-base (via Steam) than those years. Less competition in the marketplace = exploitation. No one, inclduding that Fab guy, wants to pay 16k PP for a silver, one-mission-exclusive card that isn't usable in any format (T.J. McFarland, for example).

We agree on the exploitation. If the missions were structured better, there wouldn't be worthless silver cards going for 16k, imo

Have you forgotten last year's Selects missions where required silvers, like Brian Reynolds, were selling north of 50K? It's not the card shop, it's the mission design.

Ok, I'm a mission lover too guys, it's how I build my team. However this year missions just weren't good. They need to fix those silver cards (and some gold too)

They were light years beyond "just weren't good."

I hope everybody that was turned off by the missions this year made sure to tell them in their survey. They made one or two cards indispensable and then trickled the release of those cards. Notice they always timed the release of said difficult missions with point sales. Good for business bottom line...

For a while, then the trickle of lost customers is not a trickle anymore. It becomes a flash flood. Ownership seems set on destroying Markus masterpiece. It reminds me of those nuts defacing art in museums.

I love the game and hope they do not let greed take it from us. The loss of so many teams this year sets off the alarm bell in my head and I don't think snide little sarcastic remarks to people that say they will not come back is a good response. As players we need to be concerned every time someone leaves. Like in all things there is a midpoint.

I hardly think OOTP Developments Co. is destroying the game by being "greedy". They give away more stuff to free players than any other game of its type. If people want to play sub-optimally by being 100% mission completionists is that the company's fault? I'll grant you that requiring 19 of 19 cards for a few packs is poor design, but hardly game breaking, but is a bonanza for folks selling to the completionists. I thought missions were particularly good this year for my play style.

Have you ever been to an old time carnival? The booths where you win a doll or stuffed animal for your girl. They practically give away the small almost worthless prizes by the hundreds. But that is just the hook. Then they reel you in and take all of your money while you try to win that giant teddy bear. I worked for a carnival on a summer job when I was getting eddicated. You were never, ever going to win that giant bear. One person all night during the peak hours wins and walks around the carnival grounds "proving" that you can win.

This is the same scenario. I am happy for you making it work for you. My way pretty much works for me. But if we all used your method, then the CS would be full of cards nobody wanted because none of us would be doing missions. Imagine the havoc that would wreak on the game.

I don't think 55 twitch drops free per week (average) plus achievement points and login rewards are cheap prizes to suck you in. You can build a competitive diamond team on just those things. No worries about "everyone playing like me", never gonna happen. I can't even play like me! I want to stay in rookie until all the content drops and swoop in to buy 26 perfect cards for pennies on the PP with my accumulated ~3 million points, but I can't do it. It's too boring to play that way.

Oh I completely agree with you, I really hope they're able to fix things this upcoming season. I'm not going to threat leaving, this is a game I enjoy. However I won't deny that my interestedness in the game has wavered a bit.
