Question Pitcher's stamina disappears in resumed game

My team (Red Sox) had a game suspended in the 3rd inning due to inclement weather. Several months later, the day of the resumed game came around, and I used the next starter in my rotation to resume the game in the top of the 3rd. I verified that Kutter Crawford was at 100% rest/energy before the game and sent him out to the mound. He has a stamina of 50, but after 38 pitches he was gassed. What happened here? There was no indication of injury, and he's normally good for 85-100 pitches. Was this some kind of glitch due to the resumed game? Did I screw something up? Ultimately the result was that he was totally gassed when I was not expecting it. By the time I could get a reliever warmed and in the game, the suddenly exhausted Crawford imploded and I ended up losing.

My guess is that for a game resumed midway through, OOTP assumes you are putting the pitcher in as a reliever.

So it doesn't adjust for the fact that the pitcher is a member of the starting rotation. I wasn't sure if there was some mechanic in game where starters are more "stretched out" and capable of pitching for longer than relievers. I guess the answer is a resounding no.

They are if you put them into the game as a Follower. I'm not sure if or how you could do that when the game is being resumed, though, and not as part of a regular 3rd-inning pitching change.

Otherwise though the game doesn't know if a pitcher is a 'Starter' or 'Reliever', largely since those are fairly meaningless and arbitrary terms.

I don't play games out often, but I thought if a player is in the "Long Reliever" role they might get a little more stamina for relief outings?

But, yes, this is an area where OOTP could use some improvement.

Pitchers, generally, know how they are going to be used in a a game and can adjust for that to a degree even if it is outside of their typical role. So, it would be ideal to have a mechanism when sending a pitcher out there that allows them to make that adjustment to their approach for the day (within reason based on their overall role).

OK, there was a follower checkbox. I checked it and then unchecked it because I didn't know what it meant. If I end up in the same situation in the future, I will try checking it and seeing what happens. Thanks!

Any time the follower checkbox is available, check it. Your stamina will be much greater.

It is for the times when a reliever pitches the first and/or second inning, then a member of the rotation comes in and pitches from there on, trying to get to the eighth or so.

Bringing in a rested pitcher with rotation-level stamina with follower checked will allow you to go 80-100 pitches, whereas leaving it unchecked will have him gassed at 30-40.

Well, it depends if you want that or not. In some cases you might want the Stuff/etc boost from not being a Follower.

I'll have to have a look at that. I didn't notice there was a difference. Is it the difference between the stuff of a starter vs. the stuff of a reliever?

I wonder if we should always have a follower-like checkbox, like for any relief situation, not just following a starter, where you're basically telling the reliever, "give it all you've got, I'll bring in another reliever soon enough" vs "take it easy out there, I just want you to eat some innings". Hmm. I like it.
