Cant play past April 2021 (Steam/PC)

Standard game. Negligible changes to settings. The first time, I used no ghost players. In early april, seemingly every minor league game was a no-go due to allegedly invalid rosters (which appeared fine). I tried using ghosties. Went through every single team to have AI set up organization. No luck. It just keeps suggesting I use ghosties, which is both enabled and unnecessary.

I gave up despite major time investment and started a new league, this time allowing ghosties from the start. Come 2021, the same problem occurred. The game is unplayable.

It's not like I'm doing something exotic here. Why the problem? What's the fix?

My best guess would be this is related to using the 'start from today's date' feature.

There was a pretty rare bug where there were some issues with minor league teams being linked to duplicate leagues that caused the invalid roster errors. One of the last couple patches fixed this, but if the save is from before then, it might still need a little manual fixing.

Can you check your minor leagues to make sure that each team is linked to the major league team that's actually in your universe?

You may need to reset each affiliation manually. But that should take care of the problem, if it's what I think it sounds like.

Thanks for your reply, Lucas. There appear to be no issues with affiliations. These particular games were started from May 18 (in game in both cases and in real life in the first case). So I'm still looking for a solution.

Do patches download automatically, or is there something I need to do to update the game?
