Question about saving a game as a template

So I've been working on a game for months. Building out a full college feeder league with real players. I made the mistake of only adding 5 conferences to start with. As I was editing and adding missing players, I accidently have hit the continue button twice. This made a couple teams play a game in my feeder league. So now I'm pretty sure I'm past the ability to edit the schedule if I continue adding the rest of the conferences to the game. First thought was to save as a quickstart to see if it would start over again in the preseason. No luck. I'm now wondering what happens if I save it as a template? Anyone tried this before? I won't be home for a few more hours so I thought I'd see if anyone has ideas?
