Parallel Sim? to use as test?

I am 5 years into a 1980's sim, but I want to try something out that if it does not work, or I don't like, I can reverse. I was thinking of a parallel sim. So can I copy? or restore my current back up and try it without messing up my current sim? Copy and rename? I started a backup restore and got this far, but I am afraid to go any further, thinking the restore is going to overwrite my current sim......Does anyone have some experience with this? or is there a better way?

Make a copy of your .lg folder under another name. eg myleague.lg make a copy and name it mytestleague.lg

Use that for your test.

Always make backups of your original.

So, just a regular copy in windows, and not a copy through OOTP, right?

Yes, just make a copy of your .lg folder to another location. Then rename it and place that copy back in your saved games folder.

When you start the game select load league and the copy will appear as one of the leagues to open.

Yep, I do this all the time. All you need to do is copy your .dat files. Don't worry about the subfolders for the test league. The game will recreate all those when you load the league
