Player draft - bonus demands not accurate
I've been running into an issue fairly consistently. Each time I do the first-year player draft, I'll have several guys whose demands are "Slot," (or even actual $$$ amounts) but when I select them to draft them, their demand is often wildly different, sometimes 2x over slot. Am I missing something here? If it's not a bug, then there's got to be a clearer way to present this information without being misleading.

I think we'd really need to see your league files here. If you could upload those (just the files ending in .dat in your .lg folder in saved games)to Dropbox or Google Drive, we can add this to our list of things to check out.

Lukas has responded so maybe I'm off base but...
Two of those players are listed as "extremely hard" for your team to sign and one is listed as "hard". IIRC on the offer page there are descriptions for each of the player you are trying to sign. There is one descriptor saying something like "this guy is going to be extremely hard to sign" and the demand is kind of a starting point or the bare minimum it would take for him to sign. Kind of like arbitration you may want to increase the offer. In my experience this is working as designed. The player has the leverage as he is coming out of high school and can always go to college. IE if he likes the team that drafted him ("easy to sign") he will probably sign. I play as the Cubs and routinely have to overbid for some players, which I go in expecting I'll have to do because of "signability for Chicago". I think in your case the players you are seeing don't want to play for Pittsburgh, have the leverage, and will use it to get more money.

Agree with Sweed. I've found their demands correlates to a normal sign-ability. Anything harder drives the price up and easier gives you more leverage to get them below demand.

Thanks for responding Lukas! But, based on the responses from Sweed and Cod, I get it now and it makes sense (as long as that's the intended purpose, lol). It makes sense to me that the demand I see is the "normal" demand and the signability either makes it less or more (which when I think back on it, reminds me that I've signed people under demand thinking it was odd, but they were probably Easy signs). I'd still like that to be a little more apparent in some way, so that others don't make the same mistake I did (and it helps for knowing prospective budgets), but for now I'll just make sure the signability column is next to demand to remind me.
So I'm good to drop this, but if you would still like to see my league files, let me know and I can get those uploaded. Thanks Last edited by Apoc_War; 04-11-2024 at 09:56 PM. |
