I am so happy today! I finally figured out how to create the Japanese & Korean leagues as a new fictional part of my MLB saved game. I wish they had a preset for US Independent Leagues as they have for Korean, Japanese, Cuban, etc. leagues.

I don't think this is true from what I've seen. For example, Dale Murphy of the Colorado Rockies retired one month into the season when I had the box checked (retire players according to history), then the next time I played, unchecked the box and he made it through the season.

I do notice though, that if you uncheck the box during the create game set up, it "re-checks" it when you enter the season. So you have to go back in under league settings and "uncheck" it again. Perhaps a bug.

Interesting. I have tried repeatedly to have players like Sandy Koufax play past his retirement after the 1966 season. It seems that the only way to do this (other than to manually unretire him) is to not use historical transactions.

So I'm wondering if OOTP's retirement logic has something to do with when the player runs out of real life stats. For example, Dale Murphy had some stats in 1993, so perhaps by you unchecking the RAH box, OOTP ignored his 5/22/93 retirement. But Koufax did not have any stats in 1967 so he retires after the 1966 season, every time, without fail, even with the RAH box unchecked... In your sim, did Murph then retire after the 1993 season?

I have noticed a few of those types of quirks where I thought for sure that I had checked or unchecked a box, but found them to be checked/unchecked opposite of what I had thought I'd done. That's another reason why I go through every setup page of my game after creating it, but before starting the sim.

OOTP has an under the hood transaction log the game should be moving player via. I can't speak to when a player would retire vice being released, but in the case of Koufax I would expect him to be released exactly as you saw. I'd expect if you have transactions checked it will include retire according to history regardless though the reverse will not be true. If Koufax hits the point in the databse where he no longer has a place on a roster in the future... it would make sense to retire him at that point.

There are instances in the transaction database where a player will get cut, resigned the next day, then cut again... then resigned again. Occaissionally a dev will look at an old copy of the unencrypted database and help out answering questions about weird movements. Those old threads are what my understanding of how it works is based on.

Long story short... pretty much what you said except it pulls from a databse and not so much the real life stats you are looking at.

Koufax has a 1/1/67 release transaction in the historical txns database. However, if you are playing with historical txns on, it doesn't matter what you do with the Retire Accdg to History checkbox: Koufax will retire the day after the postseason ends (so, sometime in mid-October 1966)... which makes no sense to me.
