Can't play a game

OK, I think I figured out what I was missing about the European transfers.

BUT ... now my French team can't play it's first preseason game because I get a popup that says I have to dress 10 forwards and 8 defensemen. It says if I have forwards playing defense or vice-versa (I don't), I should fix it with the right-click menu. And I don't think I can adjust who's dressed, anyway, because I'm playing GM-only.

The rules page for Ligue Magnus in the game says 18 skaters are dressed, but I've never heard of 10 and 8. Maybe it means 12 and 8 -- I've seen that in some leagues, especially in preseason. But when I tried to humor the game by signing a player off the U20 squad to be the 8th defenseman, it still wouldn't launch the game. Same popup.

Looks like this is a bug.
I did two tests with running "AI Setup Organization", one time playing as GM/HeadCoach and one time playing GM only. The Rosters look almost identical, but only as GM/HeadCoach you can advance to playing the game. When playing as GM only you'll get the error.
Also looks like you gotta have 8 Defencemen on the Active Roster, not necessarily "dressed".

Ah, thanks for the "attach files" tip.

I've played games on GM-only mode in the Canadian juniors in FHM8. Maybe adding the eighth defenseman to the roster after the error message appeared was too late. If that might be it, and France is not unplayable on GM-only mode (which would be a weird bug, imo), I'll give it another go, because I had the foresight to make a quickstart on Day 1 of the save after I hired the staff I wanted to add.

Is there some mod with the real-life team logos? That's cool.

The quickstart didn't work either. It started a new game, sent me to the manager creation screen.

I think I see the problem, the lineup size in the Ligue Magnus has been set to 18 skaters but there's also an (internal) setting that forces the use of 8 defencemen in the lineup, which isn't compatible with a lineup that small. Checking some of their real boxscores, looks like the 18 is correct, so we'll have to remove the 8-defencemen setting in the next update,

Why does it make a difference if you're playing as GM/Headcoach or GM-only though?
Just curious.

IN GM-only, the AI is choosing the lines and can get around the lineup restrictions on the number of defencemen/forwards; that's only applied to a human player. It was added to prevent a couple of exploits that involved using an unrealistic lineup composition. The AI will never do that, so it doesn't need the rule applied to it.

OK, I had a similar though not identical issue and found a work-around. I'm now playing GM-only with the Victoria Royals in the WHL. Our first preseason game happened with no issues. When I clicked the button to start the second one I got a similar error message to the one in the French game, but this one demanded 12 forwards and six defensemen.

It wasn't a roster problem. My coach just wanted to dress 11 and 7. Apparently the program doesn't like that.

I went into commish mode, replaced a defenseman with a forward, went back out of commish mode, and hit the button.

Here's the best part: The coach overruled me, put the D I'd scratched back in the lineup and scratched the F I'd added. But he did go with 12 F and 6 D, the program was happy, and the game was played.
