Except for the inconvenient fact that women are far, far less capable athletically than men are.

Some time back I read an interview with the only female BP pitcher in baseball (for the Indians, I think), and when she was asked if she thought that a woman could ever make it in real baseball she allowed that maybe a female left-handed knuckleballer might make it, but that would be pretty much it. (And I expect a bear could make it if he could throw that pitch well enough left handed.)

Because I may be a gamer but I'm also a jock, which makes me not a dork automatically.

If you can be a jock and a gamer then why can't I be a baseball fan and a "science fiction" dork? I am also a jock btw, so I guess I'm going to have to navigate multiple identities here

Yogi Bear was pretty decent but he was a RHP 21-18 3.67 143saves in 12 sns. Teddy Ruxspin was a left handed hitting C, but he sucked he talked too much.

I have played baseball in college have you? I am 6'5 i played 2 yrs of basketball and wrestled from 2nd grade until my Senior YR, doesnt mean mean i am not a dork when it comes to being a gamer, even people who play COD or Gears of War are still dorks.
And now at this point in my life i am 6'5 275 and bench 405 and am in the best shape of my life at 35. If someone wants to call me a dork for having a Star Wars league or a Womens league so be it. But know this, theres only a small handful of anyone who can beat me up. And I have proven that in IDOC for 7 yrs.

So wait wait wait...

If I learn to pump iron / shoot a hoop / throw a ball with... some degree of success (the exact degree to be determined by Wolf, of course)...

... then I'm not a dork?

Hmmm... so long as I'm still a geek, I think I accept!

Huh? What? Did someone mention Gears of War? As a long-time slaughterer of the Locust Horde (with over 109,000 online kills to my credit), I can't but help take notice when there is some reference to the inimitable Marcus Fenix!

I'm not a geek either...and spend most of my free time golfing. I'll bet the fairy, sci-fi people can't say that somehow!!

I have no problems with it. But I have to ask, how are women not a part of the game now?

I think to have women represented in the game you need three things.
Name file
Face Gen
And personal pro nouns in the text files for league news and PBP

I think modders can take care of the first two options and could probably take care of #3 unless it is hard coded somehow.

Beyond that I can't think of anything that Markus could program to make the game accept women.

A few years back Football Manager added the option to be a female manager into the game. Really all that had to be changed was to change the pro nouns in the game to 'she' and 'her'
It also changed up some of the press conference questions.

There was a huge brew up on the Football Manager boards about it. But I think it has been mostly forgotten.
I started a career at a tiny Swedish club as a female manager just to see what was different and I quickly got bored of it. It was 99% the same as being a male manager. Just some different text to read.

I feel like it would be mostly the same in OOTP. And I don't see why this is something that modders cannot take care of without any developmental effort from Markus.

That doesn't mean that a dedicated women's league couldn't work. As I said before, it wouldn't have to be a success, just self sustaining.

Some of the PbP is hard coded, but not a huge amount. The main issue is that it would be nice to be able to have separate name and PbP files for each league. That would allow us to have both a men's and women's league in the same game.

Women's leagues need not be fantasy (or science fiction, if you prefer). They can be historical. There actually has been a women's league (as has been stated). It just didn't last a long time. The intent of OOTP is not to simulate MLB strictly, but baseball in general. One can be a huge fan of baseball without liking MLB much.

There's nothing less respectful of baseball as a game about simulating alternate scenarios or non-MLB historical scenarios.

If anything, it gives the player a deeper understanding.

Wow, so now we have people arguing about who are "jocks" and who are "dorks". We even have people who misunderstand (either willfully or not) the difference between "fiction" and "science fiction" -- and even seem to presume that one category is somehow demeaning.

Mods, can we please have this thread locked? And maybe burnt?

No doubt. It's very pretentious to call someone a "dork" for liking something you do not. Also, there are a lot of people who would consider anyone who plays a simulated game about baseball to be a huge dork. Seriously, come down from your ivory tower.

In the PEBA we have had a female GM. She didn't do that well, but wasn't given much of a chance. here is the article and facegen of her.

While I'm not on board with female players, I would love to see the occasional female owner.

I have no interest in having women play in OOTP, but as long as it didn't impact the way I play and could be easily turned off, I don't see why having the option to use women as players would be a big deal.
