The final game in Chicago against the White Sox. The Rangers are 2-8 on this road trip. Chicago leads the AL West by 2 games over Oakland with just a week and a half left in the regular season. The Dodgers have clinched the NL West, leaving the AL West as the only division still up for grabs. A 17-5 record in September sealed the deal. Nelson gave the Rangers the lead back with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, the White Sox loaded the bases with one out. Allen then beat out the double play ball to get credit for bringing in the tying run which just happened to be his 100th RBI of the season. The Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the sixth. Maddox then gave the Rangers the lead once again with an RBI single but Kubiak was then thrown out at home trying to score from second on the play. Maddox's hit was the Rangers 10th of the game. After six: Texas 4 Chicago 3. Biittner led off the top of the seventh with a home run. The White Sox loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the seventh. But Melton grounded to short to end the inning. Cy Acosta took the mound for Chicago in the top of the eighth. The Rangers loaded the bases with two out but Nelson lined out to retire the side. Pinson singled in the top of the eighth to give the Angels their 10th hit of the game. Pinch hitter Mickey Rivers then hit an RBI double to tie the game. The inning finally ended when Melton, batting for the second time in the second, struck out. An error and two walks in the top of the third and, again, the White Sox had the bases loaded and nobody out. But this time, Chicago failed to score a single run. After three: Chicago 5 Texas 2. Allen teed off for a solo home run in the top of the fourth. Mike Garman took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the fifth. A couple runners got into scoring position but Garman got out of it by striking out Kelly to retire the side. It was Garman's 10th K of the season. Trying to get back into the game, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the sixth. Lovitto walked to bring in a run. Mason did the same as Texas cut the deficit in half. Bradley then came through at the plate with a 2-run single, giving the Chicago pitcher 3 RBI in the game. Burroughs answered in the bottom of the seventh with a 2-run homer. Lawson got the first two batters out in the top of the eighth but then walked the next two and was pulled for Casey Cox. Johnstone then came up with a 2-run single. Gerry Janeski took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the ninth. Terry Forster came on to pitch for the White Sox in the bottom of the ninth protecting a 4-run lead. Billings got a single for the Rangers 10th hit of the game. The Rangers loaded the bases with two out. Ford walked to bring in a run. But Lovitto flew out to center to end the game.
