Keith Hernandez took home the Silver Slugger at 1B. Let's do a comparison:

Both teams had their chances, but the Montreal Expos eventually prevailed at Shea Stadium.
The Montreal Expos saddled the New York Mets with a loss at Shea Stadium. The final score was 6-5. Mike Jorgensen, named player of the game, was 3 for 4, including 2 singles and 1 home run. The Montreal left fielder scored 1 run and drove in 3. The win was credited to Dale Murray in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Bob Apodaca took the loss. New York Mets starter Jon Matlack was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Chicago Cubs, 4-1. Bob Apodaca saved it for New York. New York, now 3-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Dave Kingman aided the New York cause with a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth off RHP Rick Reuschel. For the game, the first baseman was 1-4 with a home run. He was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Bruce Kison earned the win to go to 1-1. He allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits, with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts. At 5-2, the Pirates have played well so far.

Had Del Unser not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Unser hit a 2-run single. New York turned a good effort from starter Jon Matlack into a win over the Houston Astros at Astrodome. The final score was 4-2. Bob Myrick got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Tom Hall closed the game out for New York, earning his 1st save.
John Milner hit a 2-run double off Mike Cosgrove in the top of the 14th, which put the Mets in front, 4-2. In addition to the double, Milner had 2 singles and 2 walks, while going 3 for 6. First baseman Dave Kingman homered off RHP Tom Griffin. "Our team showed some resilience," said Milner. The Astros drop to 5-11 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1976 season. The New York Mets topped the Cincinnati Reds, 4-1, in NL action at Shea Stadium. The player of the game was New York pitcher and Fresno, California native Tom Seaver. The save was Bob Apodaca's, his 3rd. Losses have been few and far between for the Reds so far this season. Their record drops to 14-7.
In his 112-pitch effort, Seaver allowed 1 earned run on 3 hits over 8 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 7. He also helped is own cause with a homer off his oppoing number. Today Kingman hit his first Grand Slam in the simulation (technically he had one in his first season (1971) that I did not replay.) IRL he had 16 Grand Slams in his career, so that metric is not developing as I would have expected.
He has also not had a 3-homer game so far in the replay. He had 5 of those IRL. |

05/23/1976 - Expos Subdue New York, 5-3
Despite a great performance by New York first baseman Dave Kingman, the Montreal Expos defeated the Mets by the score of 5-3 at Jarry Park. Kingman went 3 for 3 with a home run off starter RHP Don Stanhouse, 2 singles, and a walk. Don Stanhouse got the win, improving to 4-2. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 3. Wayne Granger picked up the save for Montreal, his 4th of the year.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the fifth, with the game tied, Gary Carter was at the plate when Montreal scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Expos to go in front, 3-2. "We take it day by day here," said Carter, "and today was a good one for us." Montreal has a 3-game win streak, while New York has lost 3 in a row. Jon Matlack was impressive at Veterans Stadium today in the New York Mets' 3-0 shutout victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. The New York pitcher mystified the Phillies in a strong performance, giving up 3 hits and totaling no walks and 2 strikeouts.
"Jon had them chasing a lot of pitches and talking to themselves," New York manager . "It was something special to watch." So far this year Matlack has compiled a 3-2 record with a 2.28 ERA Mets slugger Dave Kingman also had a big day, going 3 for 4 with another homer off favorite target RHP Ron Reed. New York beat St. Louis on the strength of starter Jon Matlack's fine effort. The left-hander led his team to a 4-1 win. New York is 21-25 and St. Louis, with the loss, 22-21.
The Cardinals had trouble solving Matlack, who surrendered 1 earned run on 3 hits over 8 innings. Matlack told a New York Today reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win. Slugging first baseman Dave Kingman gave him all the offense he needed with a 3-run blast off LHP John Curtis. The New York Mets coasted to a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, 12-3. Dave Kingman had a monster day at the plate for New York. He went 3-4 with 2 home runs, 7 RBI and a walk. His first homer was a Grand Slam off RHP Bob Moose, and later in the game he hit a 2-run homer off LHP Ramon Hernandez.
The winner was Mickey Lolich, who threw 125 pitches over 9 innings. The left-hander was charged with 3 runs on 9 hits. The 4th-place Pirates have dropped 4 straight games.
