C power as Covelski, Cobb, and Crawford are far too much for the Yanks. Covey wins #25.

Sept. 18

The lead changed hands a whopping 7 times in this wild one in New York's Brush Stadium as the 9th inning 3 spot by Detroit was the final blow to this heavyweight contest. The Tigers take 3 of 4 from the New Yorkers and now head to Boston who just split their series with Chicago.
The magic number is still at 11.

Sept. 19 - Tigers vs. Red Sox and The Babe

The top of the Tiger order was too much for the Bambino as Detroit worked him for 3 BB's, 7 hits including George Burns 7th homer, and 6 runs on their way to a convincing 9-1 route. Veach and Cobb are a double threat that few pitchers can navigate through with Crawford batting one spot lower.

Chicago won to keep their lead at 7 games, but reduced the magic # to 10.

Sept 20, The Babe, again?

After tossing 120 pitches the day before the Red Sox brought back the Babe without any rest! Ruth fired 129 pitches on this day (Sept. 20) and got the W. And, he's listed as 'slightly tired'.

The White Sox lose so it's still a 7 game lead for Chicago but the magic number dips to single digits to 9.

The Red Sox made it two in a row and now are closing in on second place in the American League. Chicago won shaving 2 games off their magic number. Philadelphia is now pulling away from the N.Y. Giants in the Senior Circuit.

The Tigers arrive in Philly and hand the hapless A's their 93 loss of the year. Duboc goes the distance and is now 21-13 giving Detroit three pitchers with 21 or more W's.

Boland doesn't have his best stuff but this was Carl Ray's debut for 1915 and the 26 year old seemed overwhelmed, at best. Ray walked 5, yielded 5 hits, and gave up 6 runs as Detroit won 10-7 thanks in large part to a big game by Bobby Veach as he stroked a pair of doubles and batted in 6.

The White Sox won and reduced their magic # to just 4.

Covelski loses a tight one and the Tigers take one more step towards their anticipated fate of watching the White Sox head to the World Series.

Sept.28 - Good News/Bad News

The good being Detroit took a double header from the Senators in Washington. The bad, and I think you know what's coming, is that the race for the American League pennant is over. Congrats to the White Sox!

The Senators deny Harry Covelski's attempt at a 27th win (26-12) as twenty year old Harry Harper goes the distance improving his record to 3-4/ 2.31 ERA.

POG Hooks Dauss won his 23rd game of the year (13 losses) as he out dueled Walter Johnson (21-18) as Detroit scored 2 late runs to win 3-1. Cobb stole his 62 base and scored his 124th run of the year. Both, pretty amazing stats to go with his .364 B.A. Veach batted in a run giving him 124 RBI's.
