Cardinals set to host Phillies; Womack returns to majors

Coming off a three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres, the Cardinals will continue their home stand with three games against the Philadelphiia Phillies. Also, Tony Womack has returned to the major league roster after a three-game rehab stint at AAA Chandler. Womack had been out since early May with a broken hand. Hector Luna was sent down to AAA to open the roster spot. Rookie Floyd Shere remained in the majors because of his superior defensive skills at multiple positions. |

Cards news: This really sucks Pujols out six weeks

Well, Albert Pujols in the last 10 days or so has started to perform the way he should and the team had made up a few games in the standings. Well, Pujols left the July 28 game against the Phillies after being injured while running the bases. Now, the diagnosis is back. Out six weeks with an oblique strain. It's his second major injury of the season -- he missed three weeks earlier with a strained hamstrng. That goes along with losing Tony Womack and Larry Walker for multiple months earlier in the season with injuries. Larry Walker will get called up from AAA Chandler. Season is toast. |
