The Rangers travel up the West coast to Oakland for a 2-game series against the Athletics. Oakland took 3 out of 4 in Texas a week and a half ago. Despite having one of the lowest batting averages in the league, the Athletics are second in the AL in runs scored. They are also second in the league in stolen bases. They are in the top of the AL in pitching and defense. Oakland has won their last two.

One day after being named AL Player of the Week, Chicago 1B Dick Allen went on the DL with a herniated disc in his back. He is expected to miss 5 weeks.

The Rangers have traveled cross country for a 4-game weekend series in New York against the Yankees. The Yankees ended a 5-game losing streak yesterday. Only two teams in the AL, one being the Rangers, have scored fewer runs than the Yankees this season. And only two teams have a worse bullpen ERA than New York.

Cubs CF Rick Monday has reportedly requested a trade.

In random news, Astros 1B Lee May has enrolled his son in an exclusive private kindergarten in Houston.

The 1973 Texas Rangers are on pace to have the worst winning percentage of any team in the 20th Century. They return to Texas for a 12 game home stand against the AL East. First up, three games against the Cleveland Indians. The Indians have some offensive woes of their own. Only two teams have worse batting average. Only tge Rangers have a worse OBP. The Indians have the worst bullpen ERA in the American League. The Rangers are the only team to allow more runs than Cleveland. Only two teams have a worse starters ERA than the Indians. From worst to first. After playing the last place team from the American League East, the Rangers now host the first place team from the AL East, the Baltimore Orioles, for three games. The Orioles have won 8 in a row, 12 out of their last 13. The Orioles lead the league in almost everything. Batting average. OBP. Stolen bases. Runs against. Starters ERA. Defensive efficiency. Only one team in the league has scored more runs. And only two teams in the league have a better bullpen ERA. One of those being the Rangers. However, only two teams in the league have hit fewer home runs than the Orioles. One of those being the Rangers as well.

The Rangers are halfway through their 12 game home stand and are 3-3 on this home stand thus far. They have 3 games next against the Yankees. New York won 3 out of 4 at home against Texas but, since then, the Yankees have lost 6 straight. Offense has been the problem for both teams as the Rangers are the only team in the AL with a worse batting average and OBP than the Yankees. Only two teams in the AL have scored fewer runs than the Yankees, with the Rangers being one of them as well.
