They actually let George Bell go to the Blue Jays in November 1980 via the Rule 5 Draft.

1981 at least had a conclusion, but it'd be fun to play the games as they were scheduled to see who would have won.

Which season would you choose or have you chosen?
Ya missed HoFer Ryne Sandberg, sir. You could still prevent that disastrous trade if you take over before the 1981 season.

In my heart of hearts, I want every year to be 1984. What a magical time to be a Tigers fan...but in OOTP, I want to redo 1961 and topple the M&M's.

67 would be another season it would be fun to see if the Tigers could find a way to prevail.

NL-3 teams within 1 game at seasons end.
AL-3 teams within 2 games at seasons end.
Excellent WS Cards (Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, etc) vs Yanks (Mantle, Whitey Ford, etc)

So...very...close. I've replayed the 68 Tigers a couple of times, and I'm just not the manager Mayo Smith was. I can't get them to the series. Denny never explodes like he did in real life.

I'd love to replay the 1899 season as the Cleveland Spiders. The team was 20-134 that season, so it sounds like an easy feat to beat. However, I'd play it realistic where owner Stanley Robinson sold off any players that played well or showed any promise at all.

Understandable, low. Too bad Fingers was hurt. I wish we could have seen him in that Series, in truth. Would have been a great competition to see who was better between Sutter and Fingers, at least, I'm sure. You guys had the big boppers too, which still gave us a very difficult run for our proverbial money, so to speak. We just got fortunate, to at least some degree, and won, as a result. Molitor did well against us, I believe, in the Series, among others. CD out.

So… I don’t think OOTP really does a great job with individual seasons, or at least that’s not the selling point for me. I think it does much better with eras, although I’d love to see some kind of overarching mechanic to cover movement and that kind of thing. So a couple of scenarios I’d love to see:

Montreal 1993: can you keep Larry Walker and keep the team intact well enough to keep the Expos from moving? You’d probably need multiple playoff runs to do it…

Montreal 1977: the same but with a longer timeline.

New York Yankees 1962: Youve got a good but aging team and a dwindling farm system. Can you keep the Yanks from dying off?

St. Louis Browns, 1949: Bill Veeck always said he had the city won but then the Cardinals sold off to Gussie Busch and it was him who was forced out of town instead. Can you turn things around and make the Cardinals leave?

Philadelphia Phillies 1940: Speaking of Veeck, he claimed to have put in a bid to buy out the Phillies in the early 40s, stock it up with Negro Leaguers, and see what happens. IRL this was (supposedly - not everything Veeck ever wrote was entirely factual) nixed by the racist Kennesaw Mountain Landis. But what if… it wasn’t?

I could go back further but they’d require a lot more decision-making in terms of buying out minor league franchises and so on, which isn’t a part of the game right now.

1993 for me...I wonder what could have been if "Wild Thing" hadn't served up that HR ball in game 6.

I'm sure Bostonians might say 1986 for similar reasons.

The 1987 season would be it for me - who wouldn't want to re-live the Blue Jays end of season collapse, not to mention the season ending injury to Tony Fernandez that helped derail his career.

Best MLB team to not go to the World Series. Best NFL team to not make it to the Super Bowl? The 1998 Minnesota Vikings.

Sandberg was traded after the 1981 season to the Cubs. He briefly played for Philadelphia in September 1981 before getting traded in the offseason.

To be fair, Ivan DeJesus was a very good shortstop especially with defense. Back then, shortstops were more valued for their gloves than bats and DeJesus had speed, too. He was also 10 years younger than Larry Bowa. Bowa was unhappy in Philadelphia and demanded a trade. If you look at it from Philly's perspective, they did get to the World Series in 1983 just a year later. However, Sandberg the "throw-in" of the deal turned out to be a HOFer.

If I'm correct, the playoff seedings would have been:

American League
Cleveland Indians (WC) vs. New York Yankees (1)
Texas Rangers (3) vs. Chicago White Sox (2)

National League
Atlanta Braves (WC) vs. (2) Cincinnati Reds
Los Angeles Dodgers (3) vs. Montreal Expos (1)

Wild cards couldn't play their own division winner back in those days.
There's an OOTP Quickstart you can install which picks up the 1994 season at the time of the strike.
