The bats ran hot from the get-go, with the teams swapping 3-spots early and the middle innings were even wilder, with the Firebirds responding to Boston’s 4-run barrage in the 5th with 3 of their own in the next half-inning. But the hosts creep away again with runs in the bottom 6th and then again in the 8th to finally put the Firebirds away. Arky Vaughn is huge as Boston keeps the possibility of a home clinch alive.

Don’t let the lopsided scoreline fool you, the result of this game is in doubt for a long time as both offences get busy early before the pitchers finally rein them in during the middle innings with the home side ahead 9-5. A crooked number in the 8th finally settles things with a 3-run homer by Jose Cruz the big blow. Every one of Atlanta’s lineup has at least one hit with Pee Wee Reese the only one without an RBI in a consummate team performance.

Oh. My. Dear. Lord. A fitting way to close out an engrossing series with an epic game that has to be seen to be believed.

The Firebirds jump out to an early 4-1 lead after a 3-run homer by Rolen, but they just can’t put the Beacons away and it ends up biting them on the keister. A pair of RBI doubles to Stan Hack in the 6th and 8th set up a grandstand finish that ends up taking 5 more innings to play out when Fred Clarke doubles in the tying run with one out in the 9th. The teams swap runs in the 12th and, when Boston again takes the lead with one in the top 13th, this time the Firebirds have no answer and Ned Garver closes it out for the Beacons.

Absolutely amazing.
