  • 1911 saw the A’s beat the Giants in the WS as Frank Baker earned his “Home Run” nickname with 11 round-trippers in the regular season and two more in the Fall Classic.
  • Fred Luderus belted a respectable 84 homers in his mainly Deadball Era career, but never led the league in any one season. Same goes with RBI.
  • Josh Devore’s 64 SB in r1 are incredibly close to his corresponding IRL stats, but it didn’t lead the league then, nor did he ever do so.
  • Dave Foutz is not in the HOF.
  • Neither Art Fromme nor King Cole ever threw a no-no.
  • Fred “Cap” Clarke did just about everything you can in the game, but never won a batting title. Nor did Ed Konetchy.
  • Larry Doyle led the league with 25 triples in 1911, but never in HR.
  • Elmer Steele only had 3 saves all up IRL. Charley Hall, however, did lead the league with 3 saves in the corresponding IRL season.
  • Tris Speaker hit for the cycle in 1912. Ty Cobb, as I mentioned previously, never did. Nor did Sherry Magee
  • Bris Lord never led the league in trips.
  • Bill Donovan did lead the league with 3 SV in 1901, but only had a total of 8 IRL.
  • Doc Crandall never won an ERA title.
  • Lew Richie???!!!

1912 - Under the Hood

  • 1912 is perhaps most famous for its very final game – the decider in the World Series between the Red Sox and Giants, the latter of whom make a number of horrendous misplays in the field to all but hand the title to the Bostonians.
  • Ty Cobb’s 407 BA in r1 closely replicates his 409 in the corresponding historical season.
  • Eddie Foster never hit for the cycle. Nor did Larry Doyle, Shoeless Joe Jackson, Fred Merkle, Ed Konetchy, Jake Daubert or Heinie Zimmerman. Farmer Weaver hit for one, but not Buck. Chad Moeller did so once, but never Danny.
  • Heinie Zimmerman won the 1912 NL Triple Crown.
  • As he did in r1, Jeff Tesreau won the NL ERA crown in his rookie season IRL.
  • Earl Hamilton threw a no-no in the corresponding IRL season. Bob Groom never had one, nor did Dixie Walker or Eppa Rixey. Nap Rucker threw one in 1908.
  • Walter Johnson won the pitching Triple Crown three times. Rube Marquard led the league in strikeouts in 1911 and wins in 1912, but never ERA.
  • Jimmy Ryan is not in the real-life HOF.
  • Hank Robinson never won an ERA title, nor Byron Houck.
  • Smoky Joe Wood led the league with 34 wins in 1912 but never won the Triple Crown.
