October News Tuukka Rask signs extension with Boston - 3 years $5,910,000 AAV Preseason begins Injuries Zdeno Chara, Boston Bruins, out for 3 weeks - fractured ribs Mark Stuart, Boston Bruins, out for 7 months - torn UCL Mike Green, Washington Capitals, out for 6 weeks - fractured elbow Chris Thorburn, Pittsburgh Penguins, out for 9 months - fractured skull Season Entry Waivers Nashville Predators claim Michael Frolik off waivers from Chicago Blackhawks Detroit Red Wings claim Jonathan Quick off waivers from Los Angeles Kings 2012 Season Preview With the National Hockey League season about to get underway, the early Stanley Cup favorites appear to be St. Louis Blues, led by center Anze Kopitar. General Manager Zack Meyer has built a squad that will be to beat this year, but they can expect challenges from Dave Tallon's Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins, featuring center Patrice Bergeron. Among the darkhorses, Pittsburgh Penguins stand out as a possible challenger, with a big season by Sidney Crosby capable of pushing them into contender status. The scoring race will likely see Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby challenged by Alex Ovechkin of Washington and Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin. The top defensemen in the league is generally considered to be New York Islanders blueliner Erik Karlsson, with Minnesota's Brent Burns and Shea Weber of Nashville also in the running. Finally, among goaltenders, New York's Henrik Lundqvist stands out as the league's best, while Pittsburgh Penguins netminder Marc-Andre Fleury and Kari Lehtonen of Winnipeg can also steal games for their teams. |

				 | Start of the NHL Playoffs "We are very excited how this team finished this season. Having a guy like Seguin come in to a new team, we expected him to play heavy minutes and to thrive. However seeing just how much really pleased us. He really set the bar on and off the ice in terms of his work ethic.", GM Zack Meyer had to say when asked at the end of the season presser. When asked about the first round opponent, Columbus Blue Jackets, GM Meyer had this to say; "Any team going into the playoffs needs to have respect. We can't afford to walk in to the playoffs thinking that this is going to be a walk in the park. We won the season matchup 3-2, yes, but these were close games. So we can't afford to go in and do anything less than what we were doing at the end of the season." GM Meyer was asked if there were to be any lineup changes to be expected, he was quoted by saying "Well, Krejci is still banged up a bit and we're going to monitor it closely. Lehtera has done well when being put into that 3rd line Center role and we know that he is up to the task. We're not going to be tossing (Krejci) into the lineup until he is 100%. Rinne is going to be our guy going into the playoffs. However, if he starts to get a little shaky, we know that we have Bishop ready to go whenever he is called on." |

"I am incredibly proud of this team. Every single player contributed to this victory, and it's a testament to our hard work, dedication, and teamwork throughout the season. Tyler Seguin, Dustin Brown, and Anze Kopitar have been outstanding leaders both on and off the ice. Their skill, determination, and leadership have been crucial to our success. We couldn't have done it without them. To be able to win the Cup alone is an incredible feat that lots have never achieved is one thing. But, to now say that a lot of this group has one two, let alone back to back, is something truly special. Our success is also a result of the incredible support from our coaching staff, medical team, and everyone behind the scenes. And of course, our amazing fans who have been with us every step of the way. For me, as a coach, seeing this team come together and achieve greatness is incredibly rewarding. I'm honored to be part of this journey and excited for what lies ahead." When being asked about what is to be looked at ahead, Meyer had this to say, "While we celebrate today, we also look forward to the future. This victory sets the standard for what we can achieve, and we'll continue to strive for excellence in the seasons to come." |

Zadorov NHL Entry Level Draft Review The NHL Entry Draft Review has completed. The media has completed their general consensus and agreed that the Tampa Bay Lightning had the best overall draft, while the Los Angeles Kings came in for some criticism. The Best Drafts Tampa Bay Lightning Vancouver Canucks Carolina Hurricanes Worst Drafts Los Angeles Kings Washington Capitals Dallas Stars St Louis July News NHL Draft top 3 draft picks 1st round - Nikita Zadorov - LD Strongest part of his game is his defensive play. Zadorov has decent on-ice vision and reads play well most of the time. Very strong on and off of the puck, high stamina. The weakest part of his game is his goalscoring ability. Zadorov will log a good amount of ice time, but scouts worry that his injury history will follow him throughout his professional career. He seems coachable, but needs to learn to be a little better about it. 2nd round - Artturi Lehkonen - LW The strongest part of Lehkonen's game is his skating. Some parts of his game still need to be worked on. He doesn't do any one thing great, but he does do a lot of things well. The weakest part of his game is his physical play. Do not expect him to throw multiple hits around a game. Currently there is no real weakness in Lehkonen's game that would cause him to be a liability. 3rd round - Sergei Tolchinsky - LW Tolchinisky is known as a playmaker in this game. Tolchinsky has above-average stamina. The weakest part of his game is his physical play. Even the worst aspects his game are still relatively strong. He seems to get along with most of the players on his team and gels quickly. Not known to be dirty and with a good hockey IQ. Last edited by Moondoggie78; 07-16-2024 at 02:44 PM. |
