The Montreal Canadiens had a disappointing season based on last years playoff run. Montreal could not get untracked all season and certainly did not the goaltending or the health of key players as they did in 2003-04.

Montreal will have a new look in goal in 2005-06 as Bill Wolfenbarger will not get resigned. He played 250 games in the past 5 years with Montreal with 106 wins, a 2.29 GAA and a .916 SV%. Looks like Martin King will finally become the starter for Montreal.

Montreal defenseman Anthony Reynolds also was not offered and extension. It was apparent that his ability and age slowed him down to the point he became a 7th defenseman and a healthy scratch. Reynolds played in 310 NHL games over the past 5 seasons.

Montreal has to be excited with the progress of RD Colton Knoll. Not only did he show some offensive prowless, he showed good leadership skills while being the Captain in the AHL for Montreal.

2003-04 NHL Rookie of the Year C Patrick Atkins missed over half the season with an injury. He had a torrid start to the season but only had 1 goal and 2 assists in the final 10 games after recovering from his injury. Hopefully he can get back to a point a game pace next season.

The player that could make a huge impact next season will be Ed Bryant. After the trade from Detroit, Bryant only had 3 goals and 9 points in 22 games with Montreal. It was hoped he could play RW with Atkins, but both players struggled near the end of the season. Hopefully 2005-06 will see some chemistry with these guys.
