Importing Phistory in Catobase
Wondering if anyone has had this problem, but pretty much for that last 15 seasons of my league (25 total) Cato does not import all of the players histories, actually it imports a very small percentage, maybe 5-10%. Same for the Draft History. Now I have found a work around to get the Draft picks in there, I import twice, once to my DB and once to a blank test DB and just copy the seasons Draft picks onto my main DBs Draft table using Access. Getting player history in is a chore. Im not going to say what I do because honestly its probably a bit embarressing the amount of time I do spend. But I am nothing if not anal for details lol. I have spent hours (weeks/months more likely) pouring over every table and entry in the DB learning quite alot about where the information is stored but still not finding the reason why it stopped importing. My only guess is that something in the DB or something in the player text files Cato does not like but I have yet to find it. So all you Cato experts out there have you had a similar problem and have you every fixed it? or do you just live without it like I probably should? Or do you have an idea of what might cause it. Thanks.

This is a known problem. I have trashed many leagues because of this.... earlier not now.....
What happens is that a player retires midseason, his p# is changed to a r# in the game. You change his number in the txt file to a p# to get everything to process correctly in CATOBASE, but if you do not change his r#.txt file to a p#.txt file the program reads through the histories does not find it and CATOBASE with its lack of error handling simply stops reading players histories at this point. Then every subsequent year it stops reading at the same place or earlier if you have another player retire and this happens again. This then affects the draft lists because this is read from the player history. The fix is to rename the r file to a p and then change it back in game after running catobase. But you need to catch it early otherwise you need to delete seasons back to the error and then rebuild them using the csv files, and this will mess up - YIKES - player history records....... |

Ive had problems with the draft log in cato since the league's first season (this is the 3rd), but I attributed that to it being a 100 round draft with trades occuring during it.... does anyone have any idea how to fix the problem if it isnt due to retired players?

this has happened to me and I have figured a way to fix, but it requires access or another prgram that can edit the database file. It takes a little longer, but it seems to work fine for me.
***if you are going to try this, i strongly recommend you backup you league database file before you play around with it. Better to be safe the sorry.*** you import the season as normal and the import the season to a new catobase database. open both mdb files in access, and open the Phistory tbas for both. then i filter out every entry thats not from the current year on both databases. then i select all the lines from the new "temp" database, copy and paste them right over the lines from your old "real" database and save it. cato also has a problem with the team's draft history and this fix will work for that page the same way. after this open you real database and create the web pages like normal and everything should work out fine. |

I found the number where this last season's p-histories stopped updating and Im hoping creating a p# file there will fix the problem...unfortunately I wont be able to find out for a few days.

![]() I didn't bother filtering anything - I just copied all of the data in the current year catobase's phistory table into the 'real' catobase phistory table. None of the duplicate records copy by default, leaving me with exactly what I need in the real phistory table.
