The Athletics kept the Yankees at bay today at Shibe Park winning their 5th game in a row by a score of 5-4. The A's Elmer Valo continues his hot streak out of the gate this season with a three for four day and two RBI. Bobbi Shantz (2-0) went the distance getting out of several jams, but only gave up one earned run on the day. Second baseman Pete Suder's solo home run in the 4th inning off New York's Allie Reynolds was the first home run of the season for Philadelphia.
The Yankees and Athletics will finish the two game series tomorrow.
