A's Whip Tigers, 22-0
May 4, 1950 (Thursday) - Philadelphia, PA
W/L record 8-10 (.444), 7th place, 2.5 GB
The Philadelphia Athletics took their recent offensive frustrations out on the Tigers today, salvaging the series with a big win, 22-0.
The rout saw the Athletics punish Tiger pitching for 22 hits, highlighted by a 12-run seventh inning capped by a George Shuba three-run home run off Detroit reliever Saul Rogovin. Until today, Shuba's bat had been relatively silent for the A's after he was acquired from the Dodgers in a pre-season trade.

-----George Shuba-----
"Today just clicked for me", said the 25 year-old outfielder. "I hope this is the beginning of something good. I'm feeling a little more comfortable at the plate now, and once I get a good look at the American League pitching, there's no reason I can't be a positive addition to the club."
Center fielder Sam Chapman drove in four runs on four hits increasing his season RBI total to 12, two behind team leading Elmer Valo.
Third baseman Bob Dillinger also had a fine day, getting a pair of two-base hits and scoring four runs while stealing his third sack of the year.
A's pitching refused to be shown up by the team's batting order, as starter Lou Brissie (W, 2-3) and reliever Joe Murray combined to shut out the Tigers on seven hits.
St. Louis arrives tomorrow for a short two-game set. The Browns bring a league leading 6-3 road record to Philadelphia.
