Three new players joined the Hall of Fame ballot for the first time in 1899.
Fred Mann was a center fielder who played predominantly in Detroit and Washington in his 11 year career. His biggest claim to fame was leading the league in triples four times from 1884 to 1887. He earned three All-Star appearances and three Silver Sluggers.

Tony Mullane won 209 games over the course of his 12 year career predominantly with Louisville. He made three All-Star appearances in his career.

Sam Wise made seven All-Star appearances at shortstop over the course of his 12 year career. He also won three Silver Slugger awards.

These three players joined George Bradley, Will White, Jumbo McGinnis, and Cap Anson on the 1899 ballot.
When it was all said and done, not one earned the required 75% of the ballot to earn induction. George Bradley was the leading vote getter with 56.9%. Fred Mann did not earn enough votes to be included on the 1900 ballot.
