Trade rumors have recently been stirring around the Athletics clubhouse regarding the outfield. Currently the Athletics are sporting no fewer than seven outfielders on the active roster, and the competition for a starting spot has been fierce.
Barney McCosky and Wally Moses have both been vocal about their desire to be everyday players, however with Elmer Valo producing MVP numbers, Sam Chapman leading the club with 4 HRs, and the recent acquisition of Geroge Shuba from the Dodgers, their talents may be best suited elsewhere.
According to manager Nick Morgan, Sam Chapman and Elmer Valo have been his regulars in center and right fields respectively, however Valo has been seeing some action in left as well. Since coming from the Dodgers, George Shuba has been in the lineup against right-handed pitching, platooning with Paul Lehner and Wally Moses in left.
"We're definitely heavy in the outfield right now", said the Athletcs general manager C#minor. "Especially with left handed batters. Other than Valo, our only other right handed outfielder is Bob Wellman, and he's seen very limited play thus far. We're looking at possibly making a deal for some pitching help. I admit our outfield is full right now, and we don't want to hold anybody back that wants a chance to play regularly."
