Athletics handle Indians, 6-1

The Athletics took care of the Cleveland Indians last night at Cleveland Stadium behind solid pitching and strong hitting. The A's roughed up Cleveland starter Mike Garcia (3-4) for six earned runs on twelve hits in 7 1/3 innings pitched. Garcia struggled with control on the night issuing four walks and chalked up a wild pitch.
A's lefty starter Lou Brissie pitched well allowing one earned run in seven innings. He was helped with good defense including two double plays.
Other offensive highlights were three stolen bases and Elmer Valo's 3 for 5 night. He has now hit safely in 14 consecutive games increasing his average to an amazing .440 thus far.
The A's will meet the Indians one last time in the rubber game tomorrow afternoon before heading to Detroit.
