May 30, 1950 (Tuesday) - Philadelphia, PA

W/L record 21-22 (.488), 6th place, 4.5 GB, Streak W1, Last10 6-4

The Philadelphia Athletics split a double header with the last place Washington Senators Tuesday afternoon.

The first game was a pitcher's duel between Ray Scarborough and Lou Brissie.

Both pitchers didn't allow a run through six innings. Washington scored a run in the seventh and the A's returned the favor with two runs in the eighth. The Philadelphia lead was short-lived however; the A's bullpen allowed four runs in the top of the ninth. Reliever Joe Murray ran into serious trouble allowing three earn runs for his third loss of the season.

Scarborough went the distance for Washington picking up his 6th win. The A's fell 5-2.

The Athletics rebounded 5-1 in game two behind a good pitching performance behind Bob Hooper. Hooper (3-1) stepped out of his closer role to help bolster the starting rotation allowing only one run on five hits over seven innings. Johnny Kucab got the save, his first on the year.

The Athletics may make some changes to the rotation, however nothing has been officially set. Ed Klieman may step into the closer's role, but it hasn't been decided who will move to the bullpen at this time.

The A's have an off day Wednesday before the first place Detroit Tigers come to town for a three game matchup.
