June 2, 1950 (Friday) - Philadelphia, PA
W/L record 23-22 (.511), T-3rd place, 2.5 GB, Streak W3, Last10 6-4
The Philadelphia Athletics took their second straight game against the first place Detroit Tigers last night at Shibe Park, 3-2.
The Athletics scored their first two runs in the first and fourth innings. The Tigers returned the favor with a couple one-run innings to tie the game at two, but it was Joe Tipton's dubious double play ball with the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the fifth that scored Ferris Fain as the go ahead run and ultimate game winner.
Lou Brissie pitched six innings to even his win/loss total on the season at five, and Johnny Kucab and Joe Coleman pitched the final three innings to get a hold and save respectively.
Detroit's Fred Hutchinson went the distance and picks up his third loss against seven wins on the season.
The win puts the Athletics a game over .500 and in a three-way tie for third place 2 1/2 games behind Detroit. The A's have not been a game over .500 since April 29.
Philadelphia will bring Alex Kellner to the mound tomorrow afternoon for the final game of the series.
