1857: Battle of Brooklyn Rematch
As of 1857 baseball remained a New York City area game. In Boston the Massachusetts Game, a variation of Town Ball, remained popular and in Philadelphia and Washington it was Town Ball that was the game of choice. Still the number of local teams continued to grow.

1897 Hall of Fame Voting

Four new players joined the Hall of Fame ballot in 1897: Cap Anson, Jim McCormick, Hardy Richardson, and Will White.

Cap Anson’s longevity allowed him to put up 2,526 career hits and 1,416 career runs over his 20 year career. He did lead the American league in RBIs I 1886, the same year he made his only all-star appearance.

1896 Hall of Fame Voting

Two new players were on the 1896 Hall of Fame ballot: Former center fielder Paul Hines and former starting pitcher George Bradley.

Bradley won 206 games in his 16 year career earning two All Star appearances. He had a career ERA of 2.49 over 532 career games.

Hines was a three time silver slugger in center field for Louisville. He contributed 2010 career hits and 1200 career runs over 1636 career games.
