Realistic draft classes and possible ways to differentiate large player groups

With the realistic draft classes coming back in the patch some users say it is too hard, tedious to know who to pick. I thought it might be good to discuss possible ways users can navigate the crowded middle and lower areas of the draft without cluttering up the thread discussing the why's or if's it was needed.

In another thread (link is posted below) I posted some ideas on how users could look at the draft that, I think, will make differentiating players less tedious. And who knows some naysayers may come away liking the realistic classes. I'm only going to make a dry list of my ideas for navigating the new real draft from that post, and leave out any other comments.

1. change the 20/80 scale by 5's to just the 20/80 scale. This will show you ratings by one, ie 43/80 vs 45/80. Not sure why but users complain about this? Too much info? A cheat? In the x5's world both should show as a 45 after rounding. All x1's does is allow your scout to say both are 45's but I think one is slightly better than the other. Even with that you still need to look at skills because 43/80 may be better suited to your needs than 45/80. This change does not include individual skills like contact, power etc. They will still be seen as 20-80 by 5's.

2. Users could try going to the 1-100 scale for just the draft to get the granularity they are missing with realistic ratings. After the draft go back to their 20/80.

3. Make filters to sort the "all the same" group of players. An individualized prioritization of skills you want in your players is at your fingertips.

4. When you get to the lower rounds change the "relative league" setting to AAA, AA, A+, A as needed. Each step will make the differences in players more visible. The further down you go in the draft, the more likely you are actually drafting to fill you minor league teams. With this method you can still see MLB potentials(toggle back and forth) and player traits to decide if this guy has a chance to be a "boom" player. This is something I've done for many years in OOTP during the draft. It not only differentiates players better, it also lets me decide just what level I will assign my players to after the draft. It is a powerful tool.

For any interested and full disclosure this a link to the post it it's entirety. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...&postcount=118I would hope any response to the full post is made in that thread, and that this one thread is kept for ideas on how to draft with the realistic model. But at the end of the day anyone can post here or there. We've dealt with muddy waters before. :)

I have never used stars for player evaluation. Any ideas on that by me would be my "best guess". That guess would be using idea 1 or 2 from the list. Those that use stars will surely know better than me.

The thread is open for any ideas... :)

Looks like all the DSL players got lumped into their organizationÂ’s respective ACL/FCL team(s). My hunch is that it is an error derived from the DSL season taking place later than usual that year (COVID and no minor league season in 2020 being the main reason)?

Has anyone else experienced or noticed this? Both with a save starting in 2021 or once you progress to 2021?

Next question: does anyone know if once I advanced to 2022 if the DSL reappears?

I imagine it’s an issue derived from the prior season, 2020, having no minor leagues and the DSL not being loaded in the database properly the year following?
Next question: will the DSL reappear once I reach 2022?

I encountered a frustrating situation during gameplay that I believe needs a logical improvement in the AI's situational awareness.

The Situation:
1. 1 Out, 1-run lead, runner on 3rd base.
2. The batter hits a fly ball deep into foul territory in the outfield.
3. The outfielder catches the ball, but the runner on 3rd tags up and scores, tying the game.

The Problem:
In a real-world scenario, a high-IQ outfielder (or one instructed by the bench) would intentionally let that foul ball drop. By not catching it, the ball remains foul, the runner cannot tag up, and the lead is preserved. However, in OOTP, the AI fielders seem to catch every fly ball regardless of the strategic context.

My Question to the Community & Devs:
Is it difficult to implement a logic where fielders skip catching a foul fly ball if it directly leads to a game-tying or go-ahead tag-up? I would love to see players' Fielding Intelligence or Experience influence these kinds of high-stakes decisions. Is there any way to improve this, or perhaps a setting I might have missed?

There’s been a lot of debate about this recently. To explain, an “expected value” system of potential ratings means that the potential rating would reflect where the player would, on average, end up in their career. This means that players with 70-80 potential ratings would be extremely rare - in real life, most scouting orgs only give out 80 potential ratings once every 10-15 years. But if a player does have a very high potential rating, it carries significant weight. Whereas a “ceiling” rating would reflect the absolutely best possible outcome for the player’s potential, even if the chance of them reaching that potential is very low. This means there would be many 70-80 potential players each year, but the vast majority would never reach that. However, this approach would result in more granularity and separation between players instead of everyone being mostly concentrated in the 45-55 zone.

So, this happened a few times before while simming super long sims but today I was playing in a game managing and my PC just slowed down to a crawl. I had to reboot and close out the game so I lost some stuff but whatever, I don't really care about that but this seems like a bit of a problem. IS anyone else seeing anything like this?

When I brought up the task manager it showed a crazy amount everything into OOTP and it took me a while to do anything. I have never once had my PC slowed like that before no matter what I am doing and never had it do this at any point with any other OOTP but for whatever reason, this is happening with 27. This PC isn't a super high end PC but runs everything I try to run perfectly but once in a while, OOTP just does this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DISREGARD THIS POST - I ended up figuring it out

************************************************** ****************

I'm attempting to import my sim from 25....

I came to find out that I can't import a 25 sim without first importing it to 26.

Per the Wiki page (thank you for creating that!) I was able to download version 26. Obviously I didn't have a license key for it since I never actually purchased it, but it still gave me an option to import.... So, I went ahead and imported my save from 25.

That seemed to be successful as it took me to my save's home screen and at a quick glance everything looked okay.

Problem being, in my installation files for 26 I do not have a "saved games" folder within the data folder..... So now I am booting up OOTP 27, which I did activate with my license key, but when I go to import from 26 there is no saved games folder and no backup folder within any of my OOTP26 files.

I'm guessing I don't have a backup folder or saved games folder in 26 because I haven't activated it yet with a license key..... but I don't have a license key as I never actually purchased it.

The wiki page doesn't really get in to any additional detail other than saying you have to DL a "trial version" of each OOTP version from the year of your saved sim through the year of the present version.... but being that I don't have a license key I am assuming that's why I am not seeing any saved_games folder within 26 ---- and this obviously creates a problem when trying to import to 27

Any help??

Hello everyone. Been away from the forums for a while, but hope all is well with everyone.

Looking for everyone's opinion on OOTP27.

I've been playing 25 very consistently pretty much since 25's release date and for that reason I completely skipped over 26. It was the first time I skipped over an OOTP release since I've been playing. And up to this point, I haven't (yet) purchased 27 either. That's pretty much why I've been away from the forums.

Long story short, I'm one of those "play every game" people and being that I was playing every game it only allows you to get a few seasons into things before the next year's game is released. And for whatever reason, I've never chose to roll my existing sims into the following year's game. I've always just started fresh.... and while that's always been enjoyable, it's never allowed me to get more than a few seasons deep. So for that reason, I chose to stick with '25 for a while for the sake of running deeper into the sim than usual..... Really the only gripe I have as I go deeper and deeper into my 25 sim is that prospects seem to really fizzle out pretty much non-stop. Meaning a 5 star guy in 1 year of his professional career ends up being a 2 star guy by year 3 of his professional career pretty much all the time. And yes, I know in real life prospects do flop more often than prospects flourish - but going deeper and deeper into '25 it just seemed like all the young players regressed and nobody ever lived up to their initial scouting reports... and I recall that being a very "hot topic" back on the '25 message board with some people that ran extensive testing on it.

Anyway though.....

I'm considering finally putting 25 to rest and buying 27 and starting fresh again, but I'm looking for some feedback..... So to all of you veteran OOTP players who have been playing long enough to be able to compare the releases over the years, what's your honest feedback on 27?

I did not play 26 at all, so I have no frame of reference there, but how does 27 compare to 25? Do prospects seems to develop at a better rate, or is that pretty much still the same? Again, I recall that being a major talking point in the 25 forum. Does anything in 27 noticeably stand out (good or bad) when compared to 25, or is it still pretty much the same game minus some cosmetic tweaks? I would really appreciate some HONEST and UNBIASED reviews from some of the veterans on the board.

And lastly, is the game running pretty smooth with all the bugs hammered out at this point? Or are there still issues on that end? Again, going off of past releases it seemed like there was always the need for several patches before we got to the point where you could confidently begin a long-term sim.... So are we pretty safe with 27, or are we still hammering out issues?

Any feedback at all would be much appreciated.
