BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

23 April 2300

News from Around the League

18 April 2300 - Kawolski Sharp in 6-0 Shutout

Sheng Kawolski was throwing strikes early and getting ahead in the count, his manager said after the Oberland T-51s hurler tossed a 3-hit, complete game shutout against the Warwick Mirelurks.

"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Kawolski. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."

Kawolski walked 1 and struck out 9 in the 6-0 victory.

20 April 2300 - Consecutive-Game Hit Streak Continues for Byrd

Harry Byrd's bat has been smoking lately, and it continued today as he went 1-for-4 in a 3-2 Vault 81 Dwellers triumph over the Oberland T-51s at CURIE Inc. Field. The 21-year-old second baseman has now hit safely in 20 consecutive games for the Dwellers.

Harry Byrd struck out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.

This season in 13 games Byrd is batting .333 with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs and has scored 11 times.

22 April 2300 - Penaltybox Blanks Synths, 1-0

The Concord Radstags did little to support starter Joe Penaltybox against the Lexington Synths, but it turned out he didn't need the help.

The left-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Synths, striking out 5 and surrendering 5 hits. The performance from Penaltybox allowed Concord to escape with the 1-0 win despite an anemic offense.

"Nobody came to me and said 'Joe, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Penaltybox told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."

22 April 2300 - Oren Gep Wallops 3 Homers for Swatters

Diamond City Swatters first baseman Oren Gep sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.

Prior to the start of today's contest with the Egret Ninjas, Gep told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.

"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."

The big day from Gep pushed the Swatters past the Ninjas, 15-4. To go along with the homers, he collected 7 RBIs and scored 5 runs.

"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Gep told reporters after the game.

Oren Gep reached via catchers interference in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Ryan Mills in the 3rd, walked in the 5th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Josh Kish in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Matt Duty in the 7th.

To date this year Gep is batting .462 with 10 home runs.

23 April 2300 - County Crossing-Warwick Trade: Radoncis for 5

Reports have surfaced that County Crossing has agreed to send 22-year-old RHP Dobbie Radoncis to the Warwick Mirelurks in exchange for 21-year-old minor league LHP Whip Lashley, 21-year-old minor league RHP Nick Potter, 19-year-old minor league RHP Rob O'Cop, 23-year-old minor league 1B Macaw Lee Calkins and 20-year-old minor league LF Delmarva Illeracula.

“It's a done deal," said one executive speaking on the condition of anonymity. "I'm surprised word got around so quickly. We just signed off on this an hour ago." The deal apparently is awaiting physicals before an official announcement is made by either team.

Reviewing his career stats, Radoncis has worked 65.2 innings with 50 strikeouts en route to a 2-4 record. The 22-year-old also has a 7.13 ERA.
Reports are that Radoncis was deeply dissatisfied with the County Crossing franchise and wanted out. Warwick, which has struggled to the worst record in the CBO in the first three weeks, had troubles all around, including the 11th-worst starters ERA (6.98) in the 2300 season.
Radoncis will probably slot into the starting four with one of the other starters probably getting moved to boost the offense. Jerry Weisman, who went 2-20 in 2299 after going 12-8 in 2298, will probably be that move, though it is questionable if any team is willing to trade for him.

Players of the Week

NCA Awards Player of the Week Trophy

Antonio Toeclaw has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 20-year-old first baseman of the Salem Witch Hats had a hot bat in the North Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Toeclaw batted .400 with 8 hits in 20 at-bats, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs.

So far this year, Toeclaw is batting .276 with 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.

Player of the Week: Gep of the Swatters

22-year-old Oren Gep sent shock waves through Commonwealth Baseball Organization last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

A newcomer to the league, Gep made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .529 average, 9 hits in 17 at-bats, 5 home runs and 11 runs batted in.

Where the Diamond City Swatters first baseman goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but Gep certainly made his mark last week.

For the season Gep has produced 24 hits in 52 at-bats for a .462 average with 10 home runs and gotten on base at a .569 clip.

Analysis

There are some very hot teams and some very cold ones. The most surprising of the cold is the team that looked early as though it were the CBO’s best: the Lexington Synths.

After an 0-5 week, including a six-game losing streak, Lexington dropped from #1 to #13 this week in the Power Rankings. Sure, losing three straight to The Slog (#3) could make sense, but then dropping their league opening weekend at home to Concord (#14). That was after Concord lost two at home to Finch Farm (#22).

The Ghouls, 1st place in the Brotherhood League, are a loss away yesterday from going undefeated on the week. Still, The Slog has been the hottest team in the North Charles Association, going 8-2 in their last 10. They are also now 2-1 in the BL after beating Easy Town (#11) over the weekend.

The 2nd-best team in the NCA is the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (#5) dropped a spot after only going 3-2 with a split against cross-league rival Fort Hagen (#15) and then winning 2 of 3 over the Bloodbugs (#18). Relatedly, the Silver Shroud looks like they may have partially turned around their poor start, going 4-1 on the week, including a sweep at Sunshine Tidings (#20).

FHE (#1) has now won seven straight with the help of those seven wins coming against 3 of the bottom 4 teams in the Power Rankings: Warwick (#24), Jamaica Point (#21), and Roxbury (#23). Who is on the schedule does not matter for the top teams; beating those lesser teams does.

Backing up the Yao Guai is the featured team this week, the University Point Deathclaws (#2). With a five-game winning streak, the Claws are now in possession of the 2nd-best record in the SCA and tied for the 2nd-best in the CBO with the Ghouls. UP played the same two teams FHE did in opposite order: Roxbury and Jamaica Point. That obviously led to 0-5 weeks for those two teams, the only two teams with winless weeks.

Vault 81 (#4) is the last of the Top 5 mentioned, going 4-1 this week with big wins over Quincy (#12) and then a 2-1 week over Oberland (#17).
Individually, Bryan Assman is at it again, batting as whopping .482 in the first three weeks of the season. He is down in homers so far, averaging only one a week so far. That pails in comparison to the early leader for the SCA Nuka-Hitter Award, Diamond City’s Oren Gep. Gep (.462/10/23) is killing the ball and leads the CBO in WAR (2.1), home runs, and RBI. Oh yeah. He also only trails Assman in batting average (.462). He is 1st in the CBO in Slugging (1.154), OPS (1.723), Total Bases (60), Extra-base Hits (15), ISO (.692), OPS+ (329), and WOBA (.651). Along with his Player of the Week honors, Gep is dominating the CBO. In the NCA, the Lady Killers’ Hope Scrapper (.388/5/15) has been the leader.

The “leader” in the top pitcher race is a bit more muddied, but there are several pitchers having great starts to the 2300 season. Diamond City’s Tyler Powers (2-0, 0.60) and X10-44 Mannson (4-0, 3.15) are both doing great. FHE’s Peak Sizeman (3-0, 0.99) is also dominating to start. Quincy Eloquent (4-0, 1.64) is also hot. On the NCA side, Salem’s Terrence Artman (3-1, 1.97) and Starlight’s City Moore (3-1, 2.53) look to be doing the best so far.

Team Focus: University Point Deathclaws

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1624670633

They have never finished higher than 4th place in the Minutemen League. In fact, they have only finished in 4th place. Yet the 2300 University Point Deathclaws have no hold of their history as the 2200s have become the 2300s. They are sitting at 11-4 and two games up on Goodneighbor for the ML lead.

The offense has been the boon for the team, leading the association in runs scored (109), OPS (.938), Batting WAR (6.1), wOBA (.392), Home Runs (34), and Base Running (+4.2). Six of their eight batters are above .300, though their .292 team average is only 5th in the South Charles Association. The heart of the offense is RF Tomas Jones (.379/6/19) and 1B Barker Cocoa (.340/7/13). CF Jukebox Luttrell (.387/4/12) has been one of the best leadoff hitters so far this season. 3B Ryan Morris (.310/7/19) has been a solid 5th hitter. The biggest disappointment so far has been SS Aaron Nukacola (.158/0/2) with a -0.3 WAR so far, the first time he has been in the negative in his career despite his good defense. That could also mean they could look to move him and some prospects for a better offensive shortstop.

Pitching has not been the best, but it has been good. SP Quentin Malone has been a great ace so far with his 3-0 record and 1.88 ERA. The Claws have the 3rd-best runs allowed (59) with the 3rd-best Starters ERA (3.70) and 5th-best Bullpen ERA (3.86). They are the best in Defensive Efficiency (.773) and Zone Rating (+7.5), making them a team tough to beat. Third starter Ronnie Messenger (3-1, 2.70) has been playing above his level thus far. Despite overperforming on the defensive side of the ball, University Point still may need more pitchers once they start giving up runs in droves.

With two good teams (Quincy at 8-7) right behind them, it will take good pitching to stay in the SCA’s Top 5.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

23 April 2300

News Around the League

17 April 2300 - Behemoths No Match for Thirtysix, Lifegivers in 9-0 Thumping

In an outstanding mound performance, Union Hope Lifegivers starter Jaa Thirtysix fired a complete-game shutout against the Breakheart Banks Behemoths at The Cathedral Diamond today.

Thirtysix was the key to the Lifegivers's 9-0 win. The 21-year-old left-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 3 hits and 2 walks he allowed.

"3 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."

17 April 2300 - Bunker Hill Blanked by Doghair, 9-0

Aimer Doghair of the Malden Grognaks toyed with the Bunker Hill Gun Fu today, blanking them 9-0 at Wicked Shipping Field. He was almost untouchable, baffling them on a 2-hit shutout with 5 strikeouts and no walks.

"I'm sweating now because it's hot in here," Doghair said in the clubhouse after the game. "But it didn't even feel like I was sweating out there."

18 April 2300 - Injury Brings Season to End for Narrows

The Eastlake Aquaboys have made it official: Jason Narrows is headed to the injured list. The 35-year-old first baseman has been out since 04/17/2300 with a torn ulnar collateral ligament. He is expected to miss 14 months.

18 April 2300 - Pushard Booms 3 Homers

Trinity Plaza first baseman Mike Pushard led the Snipers to a 6-5 triumph over the Natick Banks Big Leaguers, crushing three home runs.

"He's scary good when he's swinging the bat like that," said Trinity Plaza skipper Bill Pinkerton.

Indeed, Pushard put up some "scary good" numbers: three homers, 4 hits in 5 at-bats with 3 runs and 5 RBIs.

"I'm just thinkin' about winning ballgames," Pushard said. "When you think about home runs, you very seldom get 'em."

Mike Pushard singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Jason Haynes in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Machine Man Fortune in the 7th, walked in the 9th and hit a solo-shot off Starting Ordone in the 12th.

For the season Pushard is batting .364 with 8 hits and 3 home runs. He has scored 4 times and batted in 6.

21 April 2300 - Season Done for Longwalk

Mike Longwalk had hoped for the best, but expected the worst. Today, he learned from the Galleria medical staff that he would miss the rest of the season. The Galleria starting pitcher suffered a damaged elbow ligament in an earlier ballgame. He admitted to being discouraged, but said he plans to come back strong next year.

Players of the Week

Yellowsky Selected Top Performer in CA

So far in his young career, David Yellowsky has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Commonwealth Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 21-year-old Galleria Robotics Experts third baseman hit at a torrid .500 clip as he collected 5 hits in 10 at-bats, 4 home runs, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

MA Names Sentry Bots' Roux Winner

It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Massachusetts Association, but last week Casey Roux of the Somerville Place Sentry Bots reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Roux rocked opposing pitching for a .545 average (6-for-11), 3 home runs and 4 RBIs to come away with the award.

Prospect Spotlight

#9 - RF Base McAndrews, Galleria Robotics Experts (Finch Farm) - 9/27 (.333), HR, BB, 6 R, 2 RBI, CS
Analysis: McAndrews appears to be finding his bat after two seasons of struggling in the BMU. He will probably never turn into the prototypical power hitting right fielder, but he may develop into a top of the lineup hitter, whether as a RF where he is more comfortable or as a good CF. Scouts love what McAndrews can bring to a team as both a contact hitter and a defensive outfielder despite entering the league as a (non-draft eligible) scout find.

#10 - SP Whokill Poole, Forest Grove Pugilists (Roxbury) - 2 GS, 1-0, 0.64, 14.0 IP, ER, 2 BB, 13 K
Analysis: Poole was one of the Bradberton 50 that came over to the CBO in the 2296 offseason after playing in a youth league in the Bradberton area. While he was highly successful there, the BMU has proven to be a step above what he was used to. However, his four good pitches are starting to look like great pitches, even if it may take the 20-year-old a few more seasons to find his way into the CBO. He does not have the pedigree of the two #1 overall picks in the Forest Grove rotation, but he could find himself as the best of the bunch.

#12 - 3B Donn Mattingley, Greentop Nursery Night People (Nordhagen Beach) - 3/22 (.136), BB, 2 R
Analysis: Nordhagen Beach's #1 pick in the 2299 draft, Mattingley has not yet found his feet with the Night People. May need a major attitude adjustment before he is ready so that he does not rely simply on his natural talent. While he will play regularly to help him develop, he is hurting Greentop Nursery rather than helping them.

#15 - SP Jaa Thirtysix, Union Hope Lifegivers (Lexington) - 2 GS, 2-0, 0.00, 15.0 IP, 5 HA, 0 ER, 5 BB, 15 K
Analysis: After going 0-12 in his rookie campaign in the BMU, Thirtysix has finally started to understand a key pitcher strategy point: mixing up pitches. He tried to blow fastballs past hitters too much in 2299, but he has started to trust his curveball more in 2300. Based on his rare sidearm motion, Thirtysix is going to be an interesting prospect moving forward.

#16 - SP Alex Alexson, Mystic Pines Raybathers (Starlight) - 2 GS, 0-1, 7.71, 7.0 IP, 10 HA, 6 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
Analysis: Alexson was one of the few minus WAR players on the 2299 BMU champion Raybathers. This season, he has struggled so far, but Starlight is excited about the long-term prospects of the hard-throwing lefty with an array of sinking pitches. On opening day, he was hit hard for five earned runs in the 1st inning. In his second start, a no-decision, he held Outpost Zimonja to just one run in 6+ innings. He needs to reduce the bad starts, and once he does, the sky is the limit. Well, at least the ace position with the Lady Killers is.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

23 April 2300

BYDL - Outstanding Prospects

Each week, we here at BNN will feature some of the Boston Youth Development League players showing their potential.

North Region

Red-Hot Rampage Reaps NR Reward: 17-year-old Baktu DaWell made a few Wattz headlines during this past week as the rookie left fielder proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and North Region officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 22 hits in 35 at-bats to put up a .629 average. DaWell collected 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

Thus far this year DaWell has hit .482 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs.

South Region

SR Player of the Week Goes to Library of West Quincy: West Quincy Atomatoys left fielder Forrest Library walked away with the South Region Player of the Week Award today after putting up some impressive numbers over the past seven days.

"The Atomatoys fans are really behind me right now," said the 15-year-old. "That helps. They give you the confidence to go out there and do better."

Library batted .467 (14-for-30) with 7 home runs and 15 RBIs this week on his way to the award.

Thus far this season in 19 games Library is batting .461 with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 35 hits in 76 at-bats.

Sophomore Report

Below are some of the sophomores (2nd-year players in the new 4-year BYDL arrangement) who are expected to be top draft picks in 2302.

LF Forrest Library, West Quincy Atomatoys - 35/76 (.461), 7 2B, 10 HR, 15 BB, 27 R, 22 RBI, 11 SO
Scouting Report: Just named the Player of the Week, some can already see that he will be a plus prospect in two years. Great at connecting the bat to the ball, which should help him progress. Expectations would translate to a .300+ hitter in the CBO. Short and thin but still has a lot of pop on his bat, which could see him as a power hitter as his body matures. Expected to continue to progress as a hitter. Not exceptional as a defender. Will earn playing time purely based on how well his bat works. No innate feel for the game so not a "baseball man."

LF Mucky Mutfruit, South Beach Waves - 30 for 86 (.349), 6 2B, 8 HR, 13 BB, 24 R, 22 RBI, 23 SO, SB, CS
Scouting Report: May be a #1 overall pick based on his power alone. Kills fastballs. Wary against off-speed pitches. Decent speed but cautious on the base paths. Not particularly self-motivated so depends on other to pep him up. Has not shown that he loves the game so may give up once he starts to struggle.

RF Bob Hatman, Beerthirty Sippers - 32 for 86 (.372), 4 2B, 3 HR, 10 BB, 30 R, 16 RBI, 12 SO
Scouting Report: Not outstanding in any particular area of batting, but solid in all. Easily could be a .250/20/70 type hitter in the CBO. Not the fastest, but covers enough ground to allow his CF to shade to the opposite outfield. Can be a team leader since he tends to be the person players look up to, even older players.

RP Hollywood Joe Horn, Andrew Station Southies - 9 G, 0 GS, 0-0, 5.40, 11.2 IP, 15 HA, 7 ER, HR, 6 BB, 14 K
Scouting Report: Noodle arm pitcher who has been behind his older teammates in starts but is expected to begin pitching as a starter soon. He tries every pitch he can think of and is about the same in his delivery which could make him hard to hit in time. He is outspoken, which makes his coaches nervous and sometimes the dugout, too. Speaks about himself in third person, which also makes some question his sanity.

3B Hazmatt Zuniga, Beantown Sprouts - 24 for 83 (.289), 3 2B, 3B, 5 HR, 18 BB, 21 R, 17 RBI, 22 SO
Scouting Report: A future power hitter in the CBO, assuming he continues to develop. Will be a decent 3B in his career. Needs to put on weight as he matures to fill out his lanky frame. May have some problems being overpowered at the plate but a good coach can help him improve bat speed. Constantly trying to find a way to improve his game. Considered a smart, hard-working player who is destined to make it.

Glad you're back and the absence was for a pleasant experience! Looks like right now a lot of teams are winning, and the losing is disproportionally by a few teams. It's early, so of course that can, and probably will change, but speaking from experience in a recent season if that trend continues there's gonna be a lot of angst at the end of this road.

I am sure that things will balance out with the better teams (e.g., Fort Hagen) starting to make their mark and the pretenders (e.g., Lexington) starting to fade away. Looking at the teams, there are a few teams that are weak compared to the top, but I still feel that some teams struggling a lot right now will find a few more wins here and there to balance out the league.

Warwick (2-13) may be the biggest surprise since they were contenders in recent seasons. They seem to have taken a few ratings hits (1B Straight QuaLiTy, for example) this offseason, but I do expect them to turn around their season to at least play close to .500 ball the rest of the way. They also have one of the better pitchers in Dave Kovalenko, but he is 0-3, 7.59 to start the season. The team is allowing over seven runs a game right now while scoring fewer than three.

Welcome to tonight's feature on "Boston's Baseball Emergence: A BosCom TV Special Series." I am your host Philip Wallace. Tonight we are looking at the history of baseball among the Commonwealth's youth. But first, let us start at the beginning.

Nate Howard is considered to be the Godfather of Baseball around the Commonwealth. The kids' game of sticks and balls and nets and plates, baseball has a history long before our time here on the planet. In a time when America was still innocent, or at least lacking in uranium fever, baseball was called America's pastime and featured greats who lived on in the hearts and minds of society right up until when the bombs fell in 2077.

Cue: "Uranium Fever" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acMq...vilDefenseSpot
Cue: SPECIAL Strength - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yuo7...hesdaSoftworks

In 2287, a miracle happened. The "Man Out of Time," the "Sole Survivor," Nate Howard emerged from the "icebox" that was Vault 111 and began a quest in pursuit of a son, but more importantly, a legacy. He freed the Commonwealth and emerged as the hero, the champion, Father, the General, Champion of the Synths and the Settlements, and the balance of the Brotherhood of Steel. He fought factions and abominations in these grand wastes.

By 2288, there were pockets of safe zones, places that were settled and secured throughout the wastes. While the number of children in the area was relatively low, there were high birthrate areas and more and more families began moving to the Boston Commonwealth among reports that there was a hero saving the Commonwealth from itself.

In fact, in 2288, the first of the youth teams started to develop with two organized teams, the North Charles Bank Goonies and the South Charles Bank Moonies, playing regular games against each other. Though the teams were organized, the games usually were not, with different rules applied on the open fields that made up their "parks." The bases and home plate were actually dinner plates. They had a number of collected balls, swatters, and gloves, but they were often in disrepair. The fields themselves were littered with debris. But there was a game being played, and that felt a lot better than just toil and worry.

Cue: SPECIAL Intelligence - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6yt...hesdaSoftworks

Starting in 2291, a Mysterious Stranger made his way to the Commonwealth. By that time, the place was free of all "war" and the Stranger and Nate went on a daily teleportation mission to teach the fundamentals of the game and make promises of a league to come where players would be paid in caps to play. That helped to start a traveling baseball circuit, some youth-based and some for all ages. Teams like the Boylston Club Boys, the Quannapowitt Mud Hoppers, the Malden Middlemen, the Postal Square BC, the Bunker Hill Caravans, the Hangman's Alley Players, the Hardware Town Scrappers, and the DC Travelin' Traders put on shows for audiences thirsting for entertainment.

While that was happening, the youth league was becoming more organized into a full Boston Youth League. By 2292, the "Original 10" were playing full seasons against each other. In addition to the Goonies and Moonies from the Charles, there were eight other teams playing. Teams changed names in time, but now they are known in no particular order as the Pleasant Minigunners, the Boston Common Baby Bellies, the Beerthirty Sippers, the Thompson Heights Earthlings, the Green Future Sea Urchins, the Circle Jerks, the Boston Harbor Harborfellows, and the Diamond City Newsboys. Each team had a distinct history and style that gave them an appeal that both kids and adults found attractive. With the surge in population centers, it was only a matter of time before the fragments of Boston and areas north of the river came together.

With the youth league, which we now know as the Boston Youth Development League, Nate Howard also had a gathering of baseball talent for his dream structure for the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. He started collecting people to watch and analyze each player, making what he called a "Scouting Report" that would lead to a full intelligence report on players from baseball skills, life skills, and even survival skills. These reports helped Nate and the CBO Commission build a list that would lead to the first-ever CBO draft in 2296. While some of the players in the league came from places abroad or from the traveling teams, most of the players are alumni of the BYDL.

By 2294, Baseball Fever was in full effect with players spending hours per day training, studying, and playing. Teams were now playing the game as it was meant to be played, and some of the quirks, like the Newsboys all wearing newsboys caps instead of baseball caps, started to change into fully donned uniforms and equipment. Small businesses cropped up devoted entirely to the industry of baseball. Of course, the most prominent of all businesses related to Baseball Fever was Diamond City's Moe Cronin who sponsored the youth league and produced baseball bats through his Swatters, Inc., business.

This will conclude Part 1 of our History of the Boston Youth Development League here on BosCom TV. Tune in for Part 2 when we break down the Charles Bank rivalry and introduce you to Nate Howard's original plans for the Boston youth.

News from Around the League

Wed 25 April - Duck-Watts Post-Game Incident Leads to Weekend Suspensions

Goodneighbor CF Good Don Duck took exception to Diamond City catcher Jason Watts’ style, charging after the Hancocks’ 13-9 loss to the Swatters at home.

“He talks too damn much,” Duck said when asked about the incident.
It appeared that the two had words in the bottom of the 9th with Duck up to bat with one out and his team trailing 13-9. Duck eventually struck out on eight pitches to reliever Mike Pond. The pitch previous to his strikeout, Duck turned towards Watts and yelled, “Shut the **** up.”

After the game was over, duck immediately ran towards Watts at the plate and tackled him. Watts then used his mask to bash Duck in the face, causing a busted nose. The two managers conferred after the fight was broken up and agreed to submit a three-game suspension for each player.

Rad Sox Get Zip in 5-0 Loss to Teddybear

It was a dismal game for the Roxbury Rad Sox with Chris Teddybear on the hill. The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets starter was in top form and made it a long day for Roxbury with a 5-0 shutout. He surrendered a total of 5 hits and piled up 8 strikeouts to pick up the win in a rout.

"No offense to the Rad Sox but that was a cakewalk today," Teddybear said to BNN reporters following the win.

On the season Teddybear has 2 wins and 2 losses and a 1.89 ERA.

Ninjas Take It on Chin, Lose, 13-0, to Warwick

The bats were ice cold today for the Egret Ninjas at The Homestead. Warwick Mirelurks starter Bobby Van Marter kept the Ninjas cold all day, shutting them out in a 13-0 victory. In a fine outing, the 21-year-old hurler allowed 3 hits while striking out 6 and walking 0.

"I'm not quite sure what was different today," Van Marter admitted later. "I didn't feel like I was doing anything differently, but the results speak for themselves."

In 5 starts this season Van Marter has fashioned a 2-3 record and a 3.32 ERA.

Fri April 27 - Hill Sharp, Whitewashes Bloodbugs, 12-0

The Easy Town Assaultrons posted a 12-0 shutout over the County Crossing Bloodbugs today on the strength of a strong performance by David Hill. The Assaultrons pitcher held the Bloodbugs to 6 hits while walking 2 and fanning 2 in the route-going win.

"It feels good to be wearing a Easy Town Assaultrons uniform today," the right-hander said following the game.

This year in 5 starts, Hill has recorded 1 win and absorbed 2 losses. He has pitched 30.2 innings, allowed 39 hits, struck out 10 and has a 6.75 ERA.

Byrd's Hit Streak Reaches 25 Games

Harry Byrd of the Vault 81 Dwellers has now hit safely in 25 straight games. He socked 3 hits in today's 5-4 triumph over FHE at BosCom Circle.

"25 games is a big chunk of the year, isn't it?" Byrd said to reporters. "It's hard to wrap your head around."

Harry Byrd hit a solo-shot off Peak Sizeman in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 7th and flied out in the 8th.

So far this year, Byrd is batting .354 with 5 home runs and 13 RBIs.

Sat April 28 - Via's Treatment Not Going Well, Suffers Setback

Diamond City Swatters reliever Nick Via will now miss more time after sustaining a setback in his recovery from biceps tendinitis. The setback is believed to be minor, but the timetable for his return has been pushed back an additional one week.

Penaltybox Holds Sunshine Tidings Scoreless

Joe Penaltybox blitzed the Sunshine Tidings Chemists at Nuka Park today, pitching the Concord Radstags to victory, 5-0. Penaltybox needed 9 innings to shut out the Chemists, striking out 3.

"I knew he had it in him, but it's still nice to see him put it all together," said Concord manager Mark Gourdroot.

Penaltybox surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in the outing.

Abern 5-for-6 Against Roxbury

Jonathan Abern of the T-51s was unstoppable in today's 8-7 victory over the Roxbury Rad Sox at Graygarden Park. He battered them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats.

"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Oberland second baseman after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-for-6 won't hurt your batting average like 0-for-5 will."

Jonathan Abern flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 11th.

In 19 games Abern is hitting .360 this season with 32 hits, 1 home run, 8 RBIs, 4 walks, .394 OBP and has scored 17 runs.

Warwick Mirelurks Ship Weisman to FHE

The Warwick Mirelurks have made a deal sending 22-year-old RHP Jerry Weisman to the FHE Yao Guai for 22-year-old CF Gee Force, 23-year-old minor league LF J.D. Lumphead and 19-year-old minor league RHP Josh Calvit. Both sides are said to be pleased with the way the trade worked out.

Checking out his stats for the season, Weisman has notched 1 win and 4 losses in 5 starts, 7.20 ERA and struck out 14 batters in 30 innings.

Force is hitting .190 this year with no home runs and 2 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .261, 2 walks and scored 1 time.

Sun April 29 - Concord Trades Gibbons for County Crossing's Williams

Newspapers in Concord and County Crossing reported that the Radstags have reached a deal sending 21-year-old minor league RF Babs Rooth, 23-year-old minor league LHP Jalen Gibbons and a 2nd round draft pick to the Bloodbugs for 29-year-old RHP Chopsticks McWilliams, 26-year-old RHP Old Buck Buchanan, 22-year-old RF Mushy Levy, 30-year-old RHP Freedom Williams and a 3rd round draft pick.

This season he has made 6 relief appearances, collecting no saves. Williams has worked 6.1 innings, yielding 9 hits and giving out 3 free passes while striking out 7. He has a 0-2 record with a 5.68 ERA.

Mon April 30 - Jamaica Plain Loses Fugate for Season

Notorious Fugate has to call it a season. The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets third baseman learned today that the full extent his injury suffered on 04/29/2300 is worse than hoped. He will not play again this year according to club doctors, who diagnosed the injury as a ruptured medial collateral ligament and stated that he would not be able to play for 9 months. The team will likely place Fugate on the injured list today.

Currently Fugate has 1 home run and a .280 batting average.

Players of the Week

Mart Wins NCA Player of the Week: At the age of 28, Dustin Mart might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Nordhagen Beach first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .412 batting average. For his efforts Mart collected the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 7 hits in 17 at-bats, 5 home runs and 9 RBIs last week in 5 games.

For the season, Mart is hitting at a .362 clip with 11 home runs, 26 RBIs and has scored 14 runs. He has 25 hits, 12 walks and a .451 on-base percentage.

SCA Presents Player of the Week Trophy: It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Jonathan Abern, the Oberland T-51s 22-year-old second baseman, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 13 hits in 25 at-bats, compiling a .520 average with no home runs and 2 RBIs.

This season Abern is hitting .355 with 1 home run.

Analysis

The CBO is still proving to be a yo-yo for some teams trying to flirt with being at the top in 2300. A week ago it was Lexington that fell off the cliff. This week, it was last week’s #1, FHE (#10 this week). The Yao Guai had the CBO’s top record, but they followed their seven-game winning streak with a five-game losing streak. They lost to Quincy (#15) and Vault 81 (#1), which we will feature below. Not only is FHE no longer the #1 team, but they fell to 3rd-place in their league behind the Dwellers and the defending champions, Diamond City (#2).

The Swatters have been quietly hanging around the top, and their 4-1 week with a sweep of Goodneighbor (#12) and a 2-1 week versus Egret (#11). The Swatters are now 10-4 against the Minutemen League.
Nordhagen Beach (#3) now holds the top record in the North Charles Association after their sweep of The Slog (#9). Despite being swept midweek by Sunshine Tidings (#22), the sweep of the Ghouls helped them take over the Brotherhood League. The Ghouls looked like they were in the process of taking over the NCA before their 1-4 week with a split against Fort Hagen (#14) and their 0-3 weekend.

A current surprise atop the Institute League is the Concord Radstags (#6). The Stags, tied with Abernathy (#7), had a 4-1 week after splitting with County Crossing (#21) and then sweeping the Sunshine Tidings Chemists (#22). Speaking of the Adamantium, they also had a 4-1 week with a split at Salem (#13) and a sweep of Starlight (#16), who entered the week in 1st place.

University Point (#4) and Easy Town (#5) round out the Top 5 for this week’s Power Rankings. The Claws dropped from #2 after posting a 2-3 week, which included a split with Oberland (#8) and then a road weekend loss to the Atom Cats (#19). On the other hand, the Trons moved up six spots thanks to their 4-1 week, breaking a five-game winning streak yesterday against the Bloodbugs in a 5-4 loss in 12 innings. Easy Town also swept the reeling Lexington Synths (#18), which broke a 10-game losing streak yesterday with a 12-inning win over the Silver Shroud.

Warwick (#23) and Roxbury (#24) still occupy the bottom two spots, though they flip-flopped this week thanks to the Mirelurks doubling their wins in a 2-3 week. The Rad Sox went 1-4 after beating the Red Rockets (#17) and then getting swept by the T-51s. Oberland had an impressive 4-1 week.

Looking at individual statistics, there are some fun numbers so far. We will post the statistics in our April feature tomorrow, but let’s look at some of the prominent players today. Six players are currently hitting above .400, with The Slog’s Boots Yellowhair (.449) leading the way. Bryan Assman (.444) of Goodneighbor, Joe Rathmann (.441) of FHE, and Quincy’s Steve Gunkill (.440) are all right on Yellowhair’s tail. For home runs and RBI, Diamond City’s Oren Gep (12/26) and this week’s NCA Player of the Week, Nordhagen Beach’s Dustin Mart (11/26), are the respective leaders of their leagues. Gep currently holds the CBO MVP lead with an array of 1st place stats, including SLG (1.014), OPS (1.530), WAR (2.5), TB (75), EBH (19), ISO (.595), OPS+ (284), and WOBA (.600).

Pitching can still belong to anyone when we are talking the best of the season. The Swatters’ Tyler Powers (4-0, 1.24) and FHE’s Peak Sizeman (3-0, 1.32) are getting a good combination of wins and run support. Concord’s Joe Penaltybox (2-2, 1.82) and Jamaica Plain’s Chris Teddybear (2-2, 1.89) are not getting as much. As an interesting stat we do not currently understand, the Pary Boys’ Tommy Beach (3-2, 4.78) currently leads the CBO in WAR (1.8). That may be due to also leading the league in Ks (39) and FIP (2.00). Still, the 4.78 ERA is a bit too high to consider him in the quarter season running for Vim! Pitcher Award contention. Easy Town’s Aaron Geneva (8 SV, 0.90) seems to be the early favorite for the Fallon’s Reliever Award in the NCA, but the Party Boys’ Matt Breakball (7 SV, 0.00) and Concord’s Aaron Still (7 SV, 0.75) are up there, too, in saves and a low ERA.

Team Focus: Vault 81 Dwellers

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1624881402

A playoff team in 2299, many thought that the Vault 81 Dwellers were a good team, but maybe not great. In what looks to be a tough leaguing in the Railroad League in 2300, the Dwellers are not only fighting the defending CBO champions, the Diamond City Swatters, but also face three other league teams that currently hold a record above .500 in FHE (12-8), Egret (11-9), and Oberland (11-9). Outside of Roxbury (4-16), this league looks like it will be a fight, at least for now.

Offensively, the Dwellers are currently tied for 2nd in runs scored (124), thanks in large part to the emergence of CF Aesed Hayjen as a league MVP candidate. The third-year player (.395/7/25) and former 2296 Rookie Draft 1st-round pick has blown up an already talented outfield that features former CBO MVP Deer Quickwalker (.304/8/19). Second-year players, leadoff hitter 2B Harry Byrd (.348/5/14) is also lighting things up. SS Knud Bather (.297/3/12) and 1B Jason Robinson (.288/5/18) are also contributing to a team finding runs in loads.

Where the offense has been good, the pitching has been even better. Vault 81 is 1st in the South Charles Association in runs allowed (75), with the 2nd-best Starters ERA (3.93) and best Bullpen ERA (1.36). Ace Edwin Mass (4-1, 3.44) and Vince McCort (3-1, 3.00) have been pitching really well for the Dwellers. The other two starters, Curt Redcoats (1-2, 4.56) and Josh Mustang (3-1, 4.97), are also helping the team thanks to good run support. Closer Danny Rocketman (6 SV, 1.29) has been caps so far. Fillmore Hoffman (1-1, 0.87) and Dave Caveman (1-0, 0.00) have been nearly impossible to score on.

We are not sure if the Dwellers are ready to take the next step towards a potential Sole Survivor Series victory, but we do know they currently hold the best record in the CBO and will be a tough team to beat in 2300 thanks to a solid roster with decent depth.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

30 April 2300

News Around the League

26 April 2300 - Huz Tosses 6-0 Shutout

Fans at Nuka Cola Square witnessed the College Square Nerd Ragers blank the Bunker Hill Gun Fu, 6-0 behind a superb effort by starter Ryan Huz. The College Square right-hander allowed 2 hits in recording the shutout.

"Ryan was good today but I don't want to focus too much on a single game," College Square manager Deadball Jenkins said later. "If you're capable of playing at this level, you're capable of having a good game. The real question is if you can learn from that game and repeat it."

Players of the Week

Aguilar Picked CA Player of the Week

So far in his young career, Carlos Aguilar has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Commonwealth Association in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 20-year-old College Square Nerd Ragers third baseman hit at a torrid .538 clip as he collected 7 hits in 13 at-bats, 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

Johnny Tattooman Captures MA Award

His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Johnny Tattooman was rewarded with the Massachusetts Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Fiddler's Green T-60s third baseman hit .563 while collecting 9 hits in 16 at-bats, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs.

Prospect Spotlight

#18 - LF Michaelangelo Sandifer, Somervile Place Sentry Bots (Egret) - 14/38 (.368), 2 HR, 10 R, 7 RBI, 9 BB, 8 SO
Analysis: Egret's former 2nd-round pick has been progressing nicely and looks like he'll be a good addition to the outfield lineup in time. He has been a good defensive corner outfielder from the start, but now his bat is starting to come around, currently holding a .490 OBP. As of last season, scouts started noticing changes in his approach to the plate with a lot more contact than he had in past seasons. While he does hit too many balls right at the shortstop or left fielder, he had been finding the gap up the middle more as of late, leading to a fast start in 2300.

#19 - SP Aimer Doghair, Malden Grognaks (County Crossing) - 3 GS, 1-1, 3.78, 16.2 IP, 15 HA, 7 ER, 4 BB, 10 K
Analysis: The 2298 2nd-round pick for County Crossing struggled in his rookie campaign, going 3-10 with an 8.54 ERA in 18 starts, but he has turned that around so far in 2300. His curveball is coming around to be his dominant pitch over his mid-90s fastball. He is a focused player, so he only looks to improve in the future barring injury.

#20 - SP Jason Bourque, Corvega Flamers (Sunshine Tidings) - 3 GS, 3-0, 1.33, 20.1 IP, 22 HA, 3 ER, 7 BB, 13 K
Analysis: Originally taken in the 2nd round of the 2297 Rookie Draft by The Slog, Sunshine Tidings' Bourque is looking more and more like he will be ready for the CBO soon. He needs to work more on his control to walk fewer batters, but he has had success ever since being traded to the Chemists organization with no higher than a 3.77 ERA in the BMU. His first three starts have all been plus starts this season, and if his slider gets any more deadly, he'll be striking out a ton of CBO batters soon.

# 21 - 1B Chase Doctorman, Vault 95 Robobrains (Vault 81) - 17/41 (.415), 2 2B, 2 HR, 6 R, 9 RBI, 7 BB, 4 SO
Analysis: The 5th overall pick of the 2298 Rookie Draft, Doctorman has improved over a solid rookie campaign, showing he may get the call up to the Dwellers before he knows it. That would mean Jason Robinson, who is doing well for the CBO club would be expendable, but Doctorman looks to be a plus talent they need. Currently with a .415/.500/.610 line, Doctorman has been crushing the ball so far in the 2300 season. His extra-base hits have not come in bunches just yet, but he did have 26 in 75 games last season. That number will probably go up in 2300, assuming he does not get the call up.

# 28 - CF Any Why, Easlake Aquaboys (FHE) - 8/40 (.200), HR, 6 R, 3 RBI, 6 BB, 13 SO, 4 SB, 2 CS
Analysis: While the other five prospects ranked in the late-teens to 20s are doing well, Why has struggled so far in 2300. Considered a good all-around player with no outstanding skills, Why should develop into a decently good outfielder in the CBO. But first he needs to find his bat. The former 17th overall pick in the 2297 Rookie Draft, Why showed marked improvement with the Aquaboys last season. That should give the Yao Guai franchise hope that he will be ready if he needs to be called up due to injury. Even with only a .200/.304/.275 line right now, those numbers should start crawling up soon. He has certainly been unlucky with finding the gaps so far, but he should improve on his 38 extra-base hits in 2299.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

23 April 2300

BYDL - Outstanding Prospects

Each week, we here at BNN will feature some of the Boston Youth Development League players showing their potential.

North Region

Minigunners Drool NR Hitter of the Week: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the North Region, but last week Jake Drool of the Pleasant Minigunners reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Drool rocked opposing pitching for a .633 average (19-for-30), 2 home runs and 13 RBIs to come away with the award.

In the 2300 season Drool is hitting .500 with 5 home runs.

South Region

Jamaica-U Point's Ball SR's Best: The South Region has made it official -- Diamond Ball is this week's winner of the Player of the Week Award.

The Jamaica-U Point second baseman was sensational with a .704 batting average, 10 home runs and 27 RBIs. Ball also had 5 walks and posted a .758 on-base percentage.

So far this season Ball has gotten 21 hits in 34 at-bats for a .618 batting average with 10 home runs. His stats include 30 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has played in 14 games.

Freshman Report

Below are some of the freshmen (1st-year players in the new 4-year BYDL arrangement) who are expected to be top draft picks in 2303.

C Madboy Conteh, Spectacle Island Reapers - 35/90 (.389), 7 2B, 7 HR, 27 R, 25 RBI, 15 BB, 21 SO
Scouting Report: Good all-around bat could see him as a .300/20/60 type of player in the CBO. Great glove, OK arm. Still going to be a good defensive catcher even if he is not as successful throwing out runners. Highly intelligent so he has options in his life if baseball doesn't work out for him.

RF Magnum Peaeye, Diamond City Newsboys - 41/101 (.406), 7 2B, 9 HR, 35 R, 35 RBI, 21 BB, 6 SO
Scouting Report: Good eye for his age allows him to pick his spots for hitting. Does not strike out much and often makes contact on his swings. Could develop into a middle-of-the-order hitter in the CBO. Curious person who asks questions, which sometimes drives his coaches nuts. Tends to take care of himself before others.

3B Rico Tub, Lynn Pier Gamers - 13/36 (.361), 4 2B, 3 HR, 8 R, 12 RBI, 6 BB, 8 SO
Scouting Report: Just broke into the lineup recently after sitting behind another talented freshman, Sylvester Scalone, who has since moved to 2B. Switch hitter who can hit for average and power from either side of the plate. May be a 30 HR hitter in the CBO. Expected to develop into a top draft pick in three years. Could be #1 overall. Not a great defender but has a strong arm that can make up for poor position. Not a base stealer but moves well around the bases. Does lose focus sometimes, so needs his coaches to stay on him during the game.

RF Emerald Sapphire, State House Orphans - 34/95 (.358), 8 2B, 3B, 2 HR, 20 R, 15 RBI, 23 BB, 24 SO
Scouting Report: Full of potential, scouts are curious how he will turn out. As of right now, is considered the 4th-best freshman overall due to the potential to be a .333/30/75 type hitter. Not super smart, but sharp. Vocal player and person, one knows what he is thinking. Super loyal to his teammates but may not be loyal to coaches and management. Sometimes gets lazy in the field and on the base paths.

1B Nuke Lebowitz, Wattz Ups - 35/97 (.361), 6 2B, 10 HR, 33 R, 37 RBI, 27 BB, 28 SO
Scouting Report: Big and strong, the 15-year old gets called "Super Mutant" by his teammates. He is a home run hitter first, a batter second. Will swing for the fence regardless of situation. That may hold him back in being a sure talent at the next level but definitely on track to be a 1st-round pick in three years. Decent defender but seems to get bored on the field when no one is on base. Not a winning personality but that could change as he becomes seasoned and finds success in the BYDL.

All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World

by Evan Guy

News of the Week

24 April 2300 - Season Over for Longo: The Cherry Ghoulrillas have lost the services of Bingo Longo for the rest of this season. He suffered a broken kneecap in a recent ballgame and the follow-up report from the medical staff is not good. Longo is out for the year.

This season Longo is batting .250 with 5 hits, 1 home run, 3 RBIs, .348 OBP and has scored 5 runs.

25 April 2300 - Diner Shuts Out Quartz, 8-0: A favor to his bullpen. That's what John Diner was doing at Star Core Stadium at the Galactic Zone today as he blanked the Quartz Star Force in a 9-inning complete game shutout.

"I went out there to try to eat up innings and help out our bullpen," the Victory Cave Crickets right-hander said later. "I felt I had my good stuff, and it turned out my command was solid."

Diner notched 6 strikeouts, surrendered 1 walk, allowed 2 hits, and kept the bullpen phone quiet all day long.

26 April 2300 - Cherry Draws Blanks Against Greaves: Logan Greaves kept the Ghoulrillas from doing any damage to the Gatorclaws today at Angry Anaconda Field at Safari Adventure. Cherry's 4 hits and 1 walk came to naught as Wild took the contest 4-0. Greaves added 8 strikeouts in his complete-game effort.

27 April 2300 - Wild Hopeless Against Gee: The Dark Bloodworms rolled to an easy 9-0 win over the Wild Gatorclaws at Angry Anaconda Field at Safari Adventure today. Leading the way to victory was starter Warren Gee, who shackled the Wild Gatorclaws and held them scoreless on a 3-hitter.

"This is what every pitcher wants to do when they go out there," Gee said in his postgame press conference.

30 April 2300 - Star of the Week Honored in NWL: 21-year-old Mike Drummerboy made a few Wild headlines during this past week as the rookie catcher proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Nuka World League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 10 hits in 17 at-bats to put up a .588 average. Drummerboy collected 2 home runs, 5 RBIs and scored 3 runs.

Welcome to tonight's feature, Part 2 on "Boston's Baseball Emergence: A BosCom TV Special Series." I am your host Philip Wallace. Tonight we are continuing the history of baseball among the Commonwealth's youth with a breakdown of the “Charles Bank Rivalry” and how those first baseball games impacted what would become the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. Today, the original rivals faced off for the first time in the 2300 season, a big change from the history of their rivalry.

First, let’s start with the 12-year rivalry between the North Charles Goonies and the South Charles Moonies. Originally started as a pick-up game on the banks of the Charles. When the North Charles team hosted games, teams played near the ruins of the C.I.T. When the South Charles team hosted, they played just northwest of Hangman’s Alley, which is now part of Diamond City.

In the beginning, players on the teams were organized but not exactly a “youth” team throughout. Most players were at least 13 years of age, including our featured “DC3,” three highly-talented youngsters from Diamond City who would join the South Charles Moonies mostly made up of people from Diamond City with a few other players coming from Oberland, Vault 81, and some unknown settlements to play. The oldest player known to play at that time was a 29-year-old, Dustbin Charles, who disappeared and never made it to the CBO days. The best, starting in 2290, was Austin Engill, who later became the CBO’s #1 overall draft pick.

The North Charles Goonies had an assortment of players at first from different areas, two as far away as Covenant! Most of the others came from recently Brotherhood of Steel-patrolled outposts in Cambridge, Graygarden, and Lexington. Two talented players with the Goonies were SP Quentin Malone and OF Patty Cuttooth, whom we interview later in this segment.

Most of the games played on until players started to tire out. While there were rudimentary rules, such as three outs per inning, teams did not play a simple 9-inning game. Statistics were not kept in those days, just who the winner was. Games would sometimes be called for different reasons: darkness, radstorms, wasteland critters in the area, raider raids, among other reasons.

Both the Goonies and Moonies started becoming more serious about their games some time around 2292 when they became more organized and started keeping track of scores and following the true rules of baseball. Still, by that time, the teams estimated that they had already faced off more than 150 times!

Now, the 2291 change. As mentioned in Part 1 of our feature, Nate Howard had already secured most of the Commonwealth by 2291, including the “unholy” alliance of the four factions of the Commonwealth: the Brotherhood of Steel, the Minutemen, the Institute, and the Railroad. During that year, a person only called the Mysterious Stranger appeared as a regular around the Commonwealth. The strangest part was that he would speak to Nate Howard but no one else. He was often there as Nate started to spread baseball as the pastime of the Commonwealth.

Their first mission was to organize the Charles River teams, as well as the other squads that had been popping up around since 2289. We’ll feature more of the “Original 10” in Part 3 of the series. For the Goonies and Moonies, games started to become 9-inning affairs with baserunning rules. The teams both also dropped the “peg out” rule, which reduced the number of injuries. The peg out rule was usually in effect when teams could not field a full 9-player team. With that rule, players did not need to touch a base for a tag out. Instead, they could throw the ball at baserunners. As long as they were not touching one of the white plates on the field, they were not considered safe. After several players suffered broken noses, cheeks, and ribs, many were happy to no longer play with peg outs. Some of the more aggressive players, of course, were not happy to drop that rule. Sheng Kawolski was quoted as saying the dropping of the rule was “utter *********.” He was reprimanded by Nate Howard, and later agreed it was a great rule, especially when he learned of the concept of “effective and necessary beanballing.”

Nate Howard had also sold to the people of the Commonwealth that the game of baseball would be the grand equalizer, bringing the people of the Commonwealth together for a common cause. None of that was more evident than the number of people who would show up to watch the Moonies take on the Goonies. The fields were still open, and some of the fans under the influence of alcohol or chems would get involved sometimes. A few of the ghoulified settlers started their own league of umpires, practicing their skills on the Goonies and Moonies games, as well as some more of the Original 10’s games. With the success of the two Charles Bank teams, more teams started organizing. Though the majority of the games played were between the two original teams, one of those two would always play in a series against another team that Nate Howard would call the Boston Youth Series, which is still the name now that the BYDL has become an official league of the CBO.

While the Moonies beat the Goonies for the first Series in 2288 when they were the only two teams, the Moonies lost to the team in Boston Common, 5 games to 4, in 2289 and lost to the Circle Jerks from Fairline Hill Estates in 2290, 7 games to 4.

In 2291, when Nate finally organized the youth teams to play in a league, the Goonies took over as the stronger team, beating the Moonies 25 games to 17 that year. They also won all five games they played against the Diamond City and Boston Common teams. North Charles Bank then beat the Boston Harbor team, 4 games to 1. However, the Goonies then lost to the Thompson Heights team from Roxbury, then only known as the Earthlings, 4 games to 3.

The Goonies mostly dominated the Moonies for the following years, only losing the series to South Charles once in the coming years, when the Moonies took the series 30 games to 14 in 2295. However, they were no match that year against the defending Boston Youth Series champions, the Pleasant Minigunners based in Covenant. The Minigunners went on to defeat the Earthlings in the 2295 Series. As far as the Goonies were concerned, they won their first Boston Youth Series in 2292 over the Earthlings and then lost the following year in the Series to the Boston Harbor Club.

After 2295, every season has been the Goonies’ year in the Goonies-Moonies rivalry, including winning the Boston Youth Series over Boston Common in 2296 and 2297 and over the Green Future Sea Urchins from Medford in 2298. Last year, the Goonies also won the Charles Bank Rivalry, but fell in the semifinals to the Beerthirty Sippers, who earned their first Boston Youth Series title by defeating the Diamond City Newsboys in a battle for both teams’ first Boston Youth Series appearance.

BNN Monthly Report

Last Month in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 May 2300

Players of the Month

NCA Announces Outstanding Batter Award: Snap, crackle and pop!
In April, Dustin Mart snapped up the North Charles Association Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 25 hits and popping 11 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .362 with 26 RBIs and 14 runs scored. The Nordhagen Beach first baseman also picked up 12 walks to compile a .451 on-base percentage.

Gep Takes SCA's Best Bat Trophy: Diamond City Swatters fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in April.

Oren Gep put up a remarkable month at the age of 22 and has been named the South Charles Association Batter of the Month.

For the month, Gep hit .419 with 12 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

NCA Selects Jerry April's Top Starter: Abernathy Adamantium starter Gerald Jerry has collected the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances.

"This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said Jerry. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down."

In April the 34-year-old compiled a 4-0 record in 4 starts with a 1.93 ERA. He threw 32.2 innings, fanning 16 while walking 2.

Ninjas Starter Named April's Premier Pitcher: There was nobody finer on the mound in April and Phlip Wallace cruised to the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 4-0 with a 2.13 ERA while piling up 30 strikeouts in 38 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .211 batting average.

NCA Selects Rookie Star of the Month: A veritable toddler to the North Charles Association, Gene Leftswipe just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 21-year-old right fielder for Concord hit .375 with 24 hits, 4 home runs and 20 runs batted in. He also logged 10 walks and compiled a .453 on-base percentage.

South Charles Association Names Rookie of Month: Youngster Bat Savelli emerged as the latest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Egret deserved the honor, batting .225 with no home runs and 9 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Savelli enjoy the limelight.

Five Rookies to Watch

NCA Rookie of the Month - RF Gene Leftswipe, Concord - Stats above
Outlook: A 21st-round selection in the 2296 Inaugural Draft, Leftswipe has finally developed into a player. Batting out of position at the cleanup spot, but leads the 1st-place Radstags in batting average and stolen bases. Second on the team in home runs and tied for the lead in RBI with star LF Dan Erb. His 4 HR is already a career high in a season for him, never hitting more than 3 in a season in the BMU. Definitely a top reason why Concord has had early success this season.
Scouting Report: Good glove with good speed could allow him to play CF eventually. A steal master may make him among the CBO leaders in steals. Has improved pitch recognition which saw his batting average shoot up to .381 last season in the BMU. Seems to be the prototypical leadoff hitter in a lineup. Neutral personality, doesn't stand out in a crowd for good or bad reasons.

SCA Rookie of the Month - RF Bat Savelli, Egret - Stats above
Outlook: The best so far in a weak rookie crop for the SCA, Savelli is batting leadoff for the Ninjas. He needs to improve on getting on base more often and then not getting picked off or thrown out trying to steal when he does get on base. He was originally drafted 14th overall by Sunshine Tidings but was traded to the Ninjas in June of last season.
Scouting Report: Once he masters his contact potential, capable of hitting .333 or better. Not a great eye, though, so will swing at bad pitches often. Talented as a defensive player and runner. Has a strong enough arm to be a pitcher but concentrated his efforts on gunning out runners from RF to home plate. Cares about others and is considered a good listener, which makes coaches happy. Intuitive and probably will be a coach in the CBO if he wants to be once his playing days are over.

1B Lannie Tykeson, Easy Town - 26/81 (.321), 3 2B, 5 HR, 12 R, 20 RBI, 12 BB, 17 SO, SB
Outlook: The former 5th-round pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft, Tykeson has something that scouts missed back them: adaptability. He has turned the scouts' mistakes into motivation to thrive, and now he has his chance with the Assaultrons. Batting third in a talented lineup, Tykeson has emerged as a premier hitter, which made him a close call against Leftswipe for the Rookie of the Month honors. He is probably the favorite to win the year's NCA Red Rocket Rookie Award. While he was being groomed to be a 1B/SP, Easy Town has been using him exclusively at 1B, which is probably for their benefit.
Scouting Report: A future star. He has the potential to lead the league in batting average, while being high in homers and low in walks and strikeouts. Scouts see him as being similar to Goodneighbor's Bryan Assman in terms of hitting success. Not the best glove, but most certainly the best arm at 1B. Could play at 3B or in RF if needed to take advantage of his arm strength. Not a fast runner, but could use his intelligence to swipe a base or two when he notices trends in the opposing pitcher. Hard-nosed but not dirty. Willing to work for success.

1B Ajani Peacock, County Crossing - 24/83 (.289), 4 2B, 3B, HR, 14 R, 9 RBI, 16 BB, 17 SO, 8 SB, 2 CS
Outlook: The 3rd-overall pick of the 2298 Rookie Draft, Peacock has quickly emerged as a good prospect after only one year in the BMU. He's not on a good team, which has probably helped earn him early playtime, but that may also help him develop more quickly than a lot of the other players his age. Another prototypical leadoff hitter type, he should help the Bloodbugs win a few more games than they would have without him. Being used at 1B because of need, but his best position is 3B.
Scouting Report: Looks to be a .300+ hitter who should be among the league leaders in doubles and possibly triples, in time. Already good at making contact, even on bad pitches. Will draw walks more than the average player. Super fast runner that may lead the CBO in SB in his rookie campaign. Everyday player who could move into either corner IF position as other players need days off. Completes games by hitting the weights or jogging. High energy, high stamina player. Superior work ethic. May be the player to turn the County Crossing franchise around.

SP Mike Rubric, Abernathy - 5 G, 3 GS, 2-0, 1.53 ERA, 29.1 IP, 25 HA, 4 BB, 16 K
Outlook: The 9th-overall selection in the 2297 draft, Rubric was successful in two years with the Adamantium's BMU team, the Bunker Hill Gun Fu. He was called up as a reliever late in the season but has emerged as a starter this season after pitching as a reliever to start. Currently behind Gerald Jerry and Brad Westing in the rotation but looks to be the Abernathy ace sooner than later.
Scouting Report: Four-pitch repertoire with a killer curveball. Fantastic control that will only get better, which will probably lead to an excellent WHIP. Pretty good stuff for his 95 MPH fastball. Competitive player. Enthusiastic in life and on the mound. Leader personality makes teammates want to do their best for him.

News from Around the League

1 May 2300 – NCA Announces Outstanding Batter Award

Snap, crackle and pop!

For the month, Gep hit .419 with 12 home runs, 26 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

NCA Selects Jerry April's Top Starter

Abernathy Adamantium starter Gerald Jerry has collected the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances.

"This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said Jerry. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down."

A veritable toddler to the North Charles Association, Gene Leftswipe just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 21-year-old right fielder for Concord hit .375 with 24 hits, 4 home runs and 20 runs batted in. He also logged 10 walks and compiled a .453 on-base percentage.

South Charles Association Names Rookie of Month

Youngster Bat Savelli emerged as the latest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Egret deserved the honor, batting .225 with no home runs and 9 runs batted in. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Savelli enjoy the limelight.

Short Slaps 5 Hits

The Warwick Mirelurks tripped up the FHE Yao Guai 9-4 today. The Mirelurks were led by Radio Short, their 33-year-old center fielder. Short made life miserable for FHE pitchers all day, tagging them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. Radio Short singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 12th.

Thus far this year Short has hit .356 with no home runs and 4 RBIs.

Nukacola Bashes 5 Base Hits

Aaron Nukacola was a tough out and went 5-for-5 in a fine hitting display today, but the Egret Ninjas managed to overcome his performance and top the University Point Deathclaws, 6-5.

"I got my pitches and I connected," Nukacola said. "They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody, and some days they fall in. And some days you lose, no matter how well you play."

On this occasion, Nukacola played well enough to get his name in the record books. Aaron Nukacola hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

Nukacola is hitting .190 this year with 1 home run and 6 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .236, 3 walks and scored 8 times.

4 May 2300 - Mass Shuts Out Swatters, 3-0

The Vault 81 Dwellers got a great effort from Edwin Mass as the 30-year-old hurler tossed a complete-game 3-0 shutout over the Diamond City Swatters. He struck out 3 while allowing 3 hits and walking 3.

This season in 6 starts Edwin Mass has a record of 5-1 with 31 strikeouts in 45.2 innings and a 2.76 ERA.

Byrd Goes Hitless, Streak Stopped at 29

Vault 81 second baseman Harry Byrd experienced something against the Diamond City Swatters he hadn't experienced a while: a hitless game.

The Swatters pitching corps quieted his hot bat and snapped his streak at 29 games, but his teammates picked up the slack to lead the Dwellers to a 3-0 victory at CURIE Inc. Field.

"Hey, ain't nothin' bad about a losing a 29-game hitting streak," Byrd joked with reporters after the game. "Now you guys will have to find someone else to bother for stories."

For the season, Byrd is hitting at a .324 clip with 5 home runs, 14 RBIs and has scored 17 runs. He has 34 hits, 5 walks and a .357 on-base percentage.

6 May 2300 - Cartrette Spins 7-0 One-Hitter Against Sunshine Tidings

Mike Cartrette of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud really zeroed in on Sunshine Tidings hitters at Hubris Comics Park, blanking them 7-0 on 1 hit. Cartrette struck out 11 and gave up 1 walk in defeating the Chemists.

This season-to-date Cartrette has 4 wins and 2 losses and a 4.23 ERA.

Vault 81 Blanks Diamond City Behind Redcoats

Relying on pinpoint control and a good array of pitches, Curt Redcoats of the Vault 81 Dwellers held the Diamond City Swatters scoreless today. He scattered 3 hits over 9 innings and fanned 2 on his way to the 2-0 victory.

Presently Redcoats has a 3-2 mark in 6 starts with a 3.26 ERA. He has given up 31 hits in 38.2 innings, struck out 24 and issued 15 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .220 batting average against him.

Starlight to Pull in CF/RF fences at VDA Field

With the tallest left field “fence” in the CBO, beating the Great Green Jewel’s fence by 10 feet, hitters need height more than power to hit home runs at Starlight’s Valentine Detective Agency Field. What Lady Killers owner Irish Cait was not happy with was the lack of home runs the other way.

“Our fans expressed that they prefer the home runs,” Cait said. “It’s me job to please them.”

For that, Cait had a construction crew raze the centerfield and rightfield fences following the Lady Killers’ 10-2 loss tonight to extend their losing streak to a league-long eight games. New temporary fences will be up tomorrow in time for the Lady Killers to host Salem. More permanent fences will be up later in the season.

Cait is hoping the team can improve on being in the bottom half of the North Charles Association in almost every offensive category. Only catcher Hope Scrapper, who leads the team in batting average (.314), home runs (6), and RBI (16). Even 2299 MVP candidate Zeldolph Violet (.278/2/12) has struggled in the 2300 campaign.

Commissioner Nate Howard approved the change because of the large outfield dimensions at NVA Field with the largest center and right field fences. The new dimensions will be 400 feet to straight away center, 340 in right field and 320 down the rightfield line.

Analysis

We are at the official quarter mark of the 2300 season, and there are haves and havenots in the CBO. There is also a lot of fluctuation between teams, but the teams above .500 are all looking like teams that could be around for the long haul, especially the teams sporting a .600 or better record. There are seven of those teams currently, with surprisingly none currently in the Minutemen League after University Point’s (#12) weekend sweep at the hands of a suddenly hot Jamaica Plain (#10) team.

On the other hand of the playoff chase, there are four teams with less than a .400 winning percentage, one per league. We here are BNN are declaring that those four teams are lobbying for the #1 overall pick for one of SP Quest Dawg or 3B Bulleye Shooterson from the BYDL or CF Danny Faraday from the Cape Cod League. Those four teams—Roxbury (#24), Finch Farm (#23), Warwick (#22), and Sunshine Tidings (#20).

Vault 81 (#1) remains as #1, the first team to do that this season. The Dwellers did not have an outstanding week, splitting at the Red Rockets and winning 2 out of 3 over Diamond City (#7) to be two games up on the Swatters and Oberland (#6).

Easy Town (#2), who we feature in this week’s Team Focus, won four straight, splitting at Concord (#5) and then sweeping the Four Leafs. The Assaultrons have been an up-and-down team over seasons, making it as far as the Sole Survivor Series two seasons ago before dropping to 5th place in the Brotherhood League in 2299. Now, tied with Nordhagen Beach (#4) in the BL and NCA for the top record, the Assaultrons look like a contender. That could be due to rookie sensation 1B Lannie Tykeson, who is a Rookie of the Year contender and currently a deep dark horse CBO MVP candidate.

Speaking of the Party Boys, they are having a relatively quiet good year, which is strange to say for the defending top seeds from the NCA. The Boys had a 3-2 week, splitting with Lexington (#18) and then topped County Crossing (#19) in a 2-1 series over the weekend. Whereas the Assaultrons’ Tykeson is a deep dark horse MVP candidate, Nordhagen Beach’s Dustin Mart (.349/13/31) is the definitive representative at the quarter mark for the NCA, battling Diamond City’s Oren Gep and University Point’s Tomas Jones for the current CBO MVP candidacy.

Another “old hat” in the top of the Power Rankings is the suddenly red-hot Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (#3). They are 5-0 in May so far after knocking over both Finch Farm and Sunshine Tidings in a fortunate scheduling for the week. Despite their 3-7 start to the season, the Shroud have started to hit, winning 12 of their last 15 and propelling themselves to the top offensively in runs (165), batting average (.304), OBP (.356), OPS (.845), WAR (6.8), and wOBA (.361). The defending NCA champions may not have a Sole Survivor Series hangover after all. With Cartrette (4-2, 4.23) throwing a one-hitter yesterday, the pitching may be coming around, too.

To finish off the Top 5, the other 1st-place team in the Institute League, Concord (#5), has been a pleasant surprise so far in 2300. With their 4-1 week, including their split of Easy Town and sweep at Starlight (#21), on an eight-game losing streak, the Radstags are currently in contention to go from worst to first in 2300. Like Easy Town, they are depending on an emerging rookie, Gene Leftswipe (.380/4/25) to look like a much better team.

With the look at so many teams up in the Power Rankings in the NCA, let’s look at a few individual players from the South Charles Association. Four players are hitting above .400 at the quarter-season mark: Quincy’s Steve Gunkill (.415), University Point’s Tomas Jones (.410), and Goodneighbor’s Good Don Duck (.407) and Bryan Assman (.404). The Deathclaws (#12) struggled this week with a 1-4 record to drop them to a 1st-place tie, but they have three players with higher than a 2.0 WAR so far: Jones (2.2), Jukebox Luttrell (2.2), and Barker Cocoa (2.1).

Diamond City’s Tyler Powers (5-0, 1.46) leads the Vim! Pitcher Award running for the 2300 season. Egret’s Phlip Wallace (5-0, 2.00) is not far behind. Other outstanding pitchers in the SCA include Oberland’s Sheng Kawolski (5-0, 2.74), Jamaica Plain’s Chris Deathclaw (4-1, 2.44), and FHE’s Peak Sizeman (3-1, 2.72).

Team Focus: Easy Town Assaultrons

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1625233429

Two seasons ago, the Easy Town Assaultrons surprised everyone by earning the Brotherhood League wildcard and then upsetting IL league champion Abernathy, beating fellow wildcard team, Fort Hagen, and then getting ripped apart by the dominant Goodneighbor in the Sole Survivor Series. With that excellent season, the Assaultrons then fell to 40-68 in 2299, just one game away from 6th-place. Now, with their promising 2300 season, Easy Town may be Winning Town yet again.

The Trons are 2nd in multiple offensive categories (only trailing the Silver Shroud in most categories) and 1st in home runs (32) in the NCA. 1B Lannie Tykeson (.340/7/24), 3B Bobby Carr (.326/7/14), and CF Sean Samuels (.326/6/23) are all hitting the cover off the ball. In addition to the thrills the Assaultrons have with their star rookie, they are equally thrilled that Carr is nearly 100 points up on his career batting average. With six players above .300 on the season, the offense has been playing at an outstanding level. Those numbers could fall off in time, but they are keeping Easy Town near the top of the CBO right now.

The pitching is not doing as well, which is a surprise that the Assaultrons are winning so much, but those numbers could and should improve over time. The major problem is the starting rotation with the 11th-worse ERA (5.41) in the NCA. That is also an indicator of where the Trons will start looking for trades as they start making their midseason playoff push. Only William Radwater (2-1, 4.26) has an ERA below 5.00. Ace Angel Waterdrink (3-2, 5.53) has never been that great of the top pitcher and probably should be the #3 or #4 starter on a good team. His career record is 34-46 with a 5.09 ERA, not exactly ace material. Smoker Caliman (3-1, 5.80) was an outstanding 15-4 two seasons ago. While he is not pitching better than that season, he is one of the better pitchers in the league when it comes to run support. The Bullpen ERA (2.02) is much better for Easy Town with closer Aaron Geneva (9 SV, 1.23) has been great. The only player with a “high” ERA is Ray Housecat (1-0, 3.86). Despite how well the bullpen has pitched, the starters have accounted for Easy Town being tied for 9th in runs allowed (124) so far.

It will be interesting to see if the Trons stay near the top for the duration of the season. With them currently tied for the top record in the NCA, they are there now. If the offense stays as hot as it has been and management finds a way to trade for a top pitcher or two, it is conceivable that Easy Town could be back in the Sole Survivor Series in 2300 in a season where it looks like any team could win it all.

Can't ask for more exciting division races this early in the season! I like when each division has one bottom team because it leads to a lot of competition at the top.

I'm especially loving the Railroad League race and hope that can remain for most or all of the season.

News Around the League

1 May 2300 - CA Choice for Batter of the Month is Aguilar

Carlos Aguilar may be much younger than other hitters in the Commonwealth Association, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in April to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 20-year-old College Square third baseman hit .306 with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Brownell Wins MA Prize, Named Best Hitter in April

Dusty Brownell made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Massachusetts Association this past month.

The Boston Common Lead Bellies first baseman shined through the month of April and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 20-year-old hit .474 with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

Pitcher of the Month Named in CA

Ryan Huz has made fans throughout Boston Minor Union take notice over the past month with an exceptional 3-0 record. No pitcher in the Commonwealth Association threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

In 3 starts Huz compiled a 1.50 ERA, putting up a 3-0 record, striking out 25 and tossing 24 innings.

MA's #1 Starter is Sanch

Over the past month Aldo Sanch has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Massachusetts Association. He proved all that and now he's been named April's Pitcher of the Month.

The rookie for the Haymarket Mall Commandos posted 2-0 mark and a 0.00 ERA. In 3 starts he tossed 22 innings, permitted 10 hits and fanned 25 batters.

Pretty Belts Bunch of Base Hits

It was almost a perfect day for Mike Pretty.

The Vault 95 third baseman displayed a hot bat today, enjoying an outstanding 5-hit day, but something was missing: The Robobrains lost to the Trinity Plaza Snipers, 3-2. Pretty told BNN reporters after the game that luck was "fickle."

Vault 95 manager Chris Puzey told the beat writers otherwise.

"There was no luck today," he said. "He got 5 hits because he has a solid approach to hitting and he put it all together today, and we lost because the rest of us didn't put it together so well."

Mike Pretty doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 11th and doubled in the 13th.

Pretty's current batting average stands at .391 and he has chalked up no home runs and 6 RBIs.

2 May 2300 - Monticello Dominates Cabot House

In a very impressive mound performance, Sage Monticello stopped the Cabot House Rayguns cold. The 38-year-old Aquaboys hurler blanked them on 6 hits to post a 6-0 triumph.

Herbst Goes 5-for-6

Rick Herbst was the King of Swing today at Memory Den Field today in the 10-2 Vault 95 Robobrains win over the Trinity Plaza Snipers. The Vault 95 second baseman stepped into the batter's box 6 times against the Trinity Plaza and delivered 5 hits. It was a sensational game for him.

"Unbelievable feeling," he told the press. "It felt good. 5-for-6 isn't bad for your batting average either."

Rick Herbst hit a solo-shot off Austen Austin in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and flied out in the 9th.ink]

This season Herbst is hitting at a .321 pace with 1 home run, 1 RBIs and has scored 9 times.

6 May 2300 - Garge Injury Update

The College Square Nerd Ragers have made it official: Cram Garge is headed to the injured list. The 23-year-old center fielder has been out since 05/03/2300 with a torn back muscle. He is expected to miss 4 months.

Players of the Week

Red-Hot Rampage Reaps CA Reward

Unstoppable Hammond demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award.

The Taffington Boathouse center fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .583 average (7-for-12) with 1 home run and 3 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

Rifleman Bags MA Best Player Award

Kern Rifleman burst onto the Massachusetts Association stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie right fielder for Charles View garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.

The 22-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .462 (6-for-13) with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs last week.

Prospect Spotlight

#29 - SP Han Nerfherder, Cabot House Rayguns (Atom) - 4 GS, 0-4, 10.38, 17,1 IP, 31 HA, 20 ER, 7 BB, 9 K
Analysis: Scouts love his potential. Batters love his pitches. Expected to develop into a decent CBO starter one day, Nerfherder has struggled to get outs so far in his second BMU campaign. He has a lot of energy on the mound and can pitch forever, but he serves up too many balls right over the plate, leading to some atrocious numbers so far. If he keeps this up, it is expected that scouts will drop the undrafted free agent from their Top 100 list.

#30 - 2B Jarrod Sebiess, Union Hope Lifegivers (Lexington) - 12/51 (.235), 4 R, 6 RBI, BB, 5 SO, CS
Analysis: Another undrafted free agent whom scouts love but has yet to show he has game. The 21-year-old was a good defender in the BYDL but never was a producer with the bat. That still is the case, though he is batting a career high in his third season with Lexington's BMU squad.

#31 - 1B Macaw Lee Calkins, Malden Grognaks (County Crossing) - 16/46 (.348), 3 2B, HR, 7 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB, 3 SO
Analysis: Recently traded from Warwick to County Crossing, Calkins is turning his chance in the NWL into an even better chance in the BMU. Calkins was on fire with the Charles View Cannibals, but has cooled off a bit at Malden. He has good all-around tools that, if developed, could make him a solid player with the Bloodbugs.

#33 - LF Delmarva Illeracula, Malden Grognaks (County Crossing) - 6/34 (.176), 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 8 SO
Analysis: Like Calkins, Illeracula was a part of the five prospects sent to Warwick for SP Dobbie Radoncis. The 5th-overall pick in the 2299 draft, there was something the Mirelurks saw in him that did not sit well, leading to him being traded. He has struggled immensely in his first season, but scouts see him as a future contributor for the Bloodbugs or wherever he ends up playing. He is expected to take some time to develop, so he may be on this Top 100 list somewhere for at least three years.

#35 - SP Punky Shaum, Galleria Robotics Experts (Finch Farm) - 4 GS, 2-1, 2.92, 24.2 IP, 23 HA, 8 ER, 11 BB, 30 K
Analysis: Originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 2296 Rookie Draft, Shaum has been creeping up in his tools and may already be ready to make the leap to the CBO. He has a 4-pitch repertioire, but his best two are his 99 MPH fastball and his cutter, with a decent forkball in the mix. If he can learn to control his pitches more, he will be unhittable at any level.
