News Around the League

29 May - Harmon Blasts 3 out of the Park: Fans are still buzzing after Fiddler's Green whipped the Somerville Place Sentry Bots by the score of 11-7 today at The Trailer Yard.

Phil Harmon smashed three home runs in the contest, a feat that would be a career highlight for most players and few fans ever see. In a tremendous performance, the second baseman bashed out 4 hits in 5 at-bats, had 4 RBIs and scored 4 times.

At the postgame press conference, Harmon said it was an "unbelievable" feeling to hit three home runs in a game.

"Getting one homer is special, and two is great," Harmon said. "Three is just... wow."

Phil Harmon hit a solo-shot off Batface Landry in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Art McGowan in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Gulp Ochoa in the 8th.

This year Harmon is hitting .304 with 6 home runs and 24 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .377 clip and scored 19 runs.

30 May - Evans Takes Charge, Blanks Greentop Nursery, 15-0: Montes Evans put on a razor-sharp performance for the Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters against the Greentop Nursery Night People at Medford Memorial Hospital Field today. Evans fashioned a fine 3-hitter, blanking them 15-0 and chalking up 10 strikeouts and 2 walks.

This year Evans has compiled a 2-2 mark with a 3.65 ERA in 7 starts.

31 May - Minigun Involved in Accident: Forest Grove reliever Yolo Minigun will be out of the lineup for 9 months. He informed the Pugilists skipper that he hurt himself when he attempted to do a wheelie on his custom-made motorized quadcycle and sustained a concussion.

Covert's Hit Streak Soars to 25 Games: Nobody has been able to shut down Haymarket Mall Commandos left fielder Kevin Covert in recent days. The Boston Common Lead Bellies fared no better than the rest.

Today at Garden Terrace Field, Covert picked up 3 hits in 4 at-bats en route to a 7-1 Commandos victory. It stretched his hitting string to 25 consecutive games.
Kevin Covert flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th and singled in the 8th.

So far this season Covert is batting .442 with 5 home runs.

Players of the Week

Bunker Hill Center Fielder Nets CA Award: At the age of 28, Flatface Parker might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication, he could be back in the CBO soon. He was once a .300-plus hitter for the Quincy Gunners before being traded to the Abernathy organization.

The Bunker Hill center fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .471 batting average. For his efforts Parker collected the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 8 hits in 17 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs last week in 4 games.

This year Parker is hitting .347 with 4 home runs and 24 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .434 clip and scored 12 runs.

Funny of Somerville Place Crowned Best Player: Nobody in the Massachusetts Association had a better week than Tipitino Funny... Noooo-body! That's why he was voted the Player of the Week.

During the week the Somerville Place shortstop compiled a .706 batting average (12-for-17) with 1 home run, 4 runs batted in and scored 8 runs.

This season Funny is swinging the bat at a .452 rate with 38 hits in 84 at-bats. To date he has hit 1 home run, scored 22 runs and driven in 11. His .452 average is currently tops in the BMU, ten average points higher than Haymarket Mall's Kevin Covert.

Prospect Spotlight

End of the Line? Five Top Prospects Stuck in Place

This week, let's look at the top prospects remaining in the BMU this season. Right now, 10 of the top 15 prospects in the OSA Prospect Pipeline are on their CBO teams. Some are stuck as emergency backups, but they are there indeed. That includes the #2 overall prospect, CF Maxx Murtagh of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, and the #6 overall prospect, SP Nuke Laloosh of the Roxbury Rad Sox. Now let's take another look at the five prospects who are still kicking around spit buckets in the BMU.

#4 SP Eugene Gym, Forest Grove Pugilists (Roxbury) - 7 GS, 1-3, 5.13, 33.1 IP, 45 HA, 19 ER, 18 BB, 22 K
Analysis: The Roxbury Rad Sox love the potential of Gym as a former #1 overall pick, but they still want him to show more before they allow him to lose a ton of games at the CBO level. He may be a prospect who needs success before he can be a "player" in the league. When he does hit potential, he will have among the best stuff in the league from his 98-MPH fastball and great control of his offspeed pitches, including what may be his best future pitch, the knuckle curve. By 2301, we can see him suiting up in the Sox uniform.

#9 RF Base McAndrews, Galleria Robotics Experts (Finch Farm) - 27/107 (.252), 2 2B, 2 HR, 16 R, 9 RBI, 8 BB, 17 SO, 2 SB, 2 CS
Analysis: McAndrews was not heavily recruited when he entered Commonwealth baseball in 2298 after a tryout period where the Quincy organization signed him. Later that year, they traded him to Finch Farm as a potential future CBO player. He has potential, but he has not executed that potential yet making some scouts start to question if he can make it past the BMU. He is hitting over .200 for the first time this season, finally starting to make better contact on the ball. He is good in the outfield, which is his best asset so far.

#10 SP Whokill Poole, Forest Grove Pugilists (Roxbury) - 7 GS, 2-1, 3.40, 45.0 IP, 44 HA, 17 ER, 15 BB, 43 K
Analysis: Poole looks closer to moving up than his teammate, Gym, but he is still a part of the numbers game for Roxbury. While Gym is likely to replace either Jack Arasmith (2-7, 5.71 with Roxbury) or Tyler Shuster (1-5, 6.39) next season, it is likely that Poole will enter his 5th straight year with Forest Grove in 2301 with his likely move up happening in 2302. While the former undrafted free agent following the 2296 Rookie Draft sat and waited, not being signed until after the 2297 season, he has shown lots of potential. That means he will get his shot, but it is not certain that shot will be with the Rad Sox.

#12 3B Donn Mattingley, Greentop Nursery Night People (Nordhagen Beach) - 18/96 (.188), 2B, 7 R, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 29 SO
Analysis: We have mentioned Mattingley before as an interesting prospect. While he could move to another position like 1B, his best shot with the Party Boys is at 3B. He is currently behind Jon Hitman and Dirty Dog Sapienza at the position, so he is staying put at Greentop Nursery in 2300. However, Hitman (.271/2/11) is starting to show his age, currently batting below .300 for the first time in his career. As active as Nordhagen Beach is around the trading deadline, they could be looking to improve that position. What does that mean for Mattingley? We don't know. However, with his .188/.235/.198 line, the potential power hitter could benefit from the rumored rookie league to get his footing. He has not adjusted well from the BYDL's Diamond City Newsboys to the next level, and he has still yet to show that power potential that helped get him drafted in the 1st Round of the 2299 Rookie Draft.

#13 RF Gunner Eyesocket, Haymarket Mall Commandos (Jamaica Plain) - 38/110 (.345), 5 2B, 2 HR, 16 R, 18 RBI, 11 BB, 11 SO
Analysis: Of all the players on this list, Eyesocket looks to be the most ready of the five. However, who would he replace at Jamaica Plain? A prospect already seeing playing time, though struggling, in Goody Cloyse (.219/5/19) or the heavy hitting Damani Beebe (.323/6/16)? Granted, there are smoking rumors about Beebe being on the trading block, but Eyesocket, the #4 overall pick in the 2298 Rookie Draft, may benefit by staying put in Haymarket Mall for 2300 with a promotion coming on Day 1 of the 2301 season.

Hitter of the Month

NWL B League Selects May's Best Batter: Not known for his offensive prowess, Hyp Joyner set the league afire in May and took home the NWL B League Batter of the Month award.

Pitcher of the Month

Tourists Starter Named May's Premier Pitcher: Craig Rose really strutted his stuff in May with 4 wins and 2 losses and walked off with the Pitcher of the Month Award in the NWL B League. The Orange B starter was good news for his club, but bad news for the opposition.

In 56.1 innings of work, Rose limited opposing batters to 36 base hits and a .179 batting average. He totaled 49 strikeouts, issued 5 walks and had a 0.96 ERA.

If Fort Hagan could just win on the road, the rest of the league would be in trouble. Crazy run differential already and they may be the only team who could run away with the division.

They have been pretty good as of late after that incredibly slow start at the beginning of the season, including an 0-4 road start on the season. It also didn't seem like they were outscoring opponents so much. However, in their 17-5 May, the Shroud did have 11 wins of at least five runs different.

You may be right. If they stay this hot in June, they may run away with this thing.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the BYDL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

4 June 2300

BYDL - Outstanding Prospects

Each week, we here at BNN will feature some of the Boston Youth Development League players showing their potential.

North Region

Star of the Week Honored in NR: Gin Kwon burst onto the North Region stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie left fielder for Lynn Pier garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.

The 18-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .720 (18-for-25) with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs last week.

This season Kwon is batting .472 with 120 hits, 13 home runs, 68 RBIs, .539 OBP and has scored 78 runs.

South Region

Avina on Fire, Named Player of the Week: So far in his young career, Avi Avina has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the South Region in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 16-year-old State House Orphans catcher hit at a torrid .818 clip as he collected 9 hits in 11 at-bats, 2 home runs, 5 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

For the year Avina has hit .330 with 2 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 25 runs.

Milestones

Hit Streak Now at 53 for Drool: Jake Drool, left fielder for the Pleasant Minigunners, ran his consecutive-game hitting streak to 53 games with 2 hits in his club's 4-3 victory today over the Boston Harbor Harborfellows at Ballpark of Portland HS today.

"I don't really know why it's even happening," he said with a grin after the game. "So asking me how long I can keep it up is kind of irrelevant. It'll end when it ends."
Jake Drool singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and walked in the 9th.

Drool is presently batting .496 with 12 home runs, 76 runs scored and 56 RBIs. His OBP is .547.

Man, I knew you said you'd slow down in August, but I've been thinking about this a lot again lately, because I saw a discussion elsewhere about how good the Fallout 4 intro cutscene is. It really is a good universe for creativity, though I'm not sure how you came up with the idea of doing a crossover with OOTP and it. TBH it does seem like kind of an obvious genre now that I think about it, there's a lot of good crossovers out there, but I'd have never thought about it without seeing this dynasty and your NV story.

Well that and maybe the glance I took at the Pokemon world.dat but couldn't figure out how to install

Life has just been in the way lately. I will only get busier from here. I'm sure I can have some mega writing sessions around Christmas, though!

Welcome to tonight's last feature, Part 7 of "Boston's Baseball Emergence: A BosCom TV Special Series." I am your host Philip Wallace. Tonight we are looking at the Final 4, the last four teams added to the 2300 version of the Boston Youth Development League.
Those four teams that were allowed to engage in a competitive selection of players to play the 2300 season are the Castle Freedom, the Lynn Pier Gamers, the Spectacle Island Reapers, and the West Quincy Atomatoys.

This week we’re out of teams with histories, so let’s spend some time with who the teams are and why those teams were able to join the Boston Youth Development League.

First up is the Castle Freedom, located appropriately outside the walls of The Castle, the Minutemen’s main base in the Commonwealth. At an old pre-war fort, The Castle has also been home since 2288 to Radio Freedom, a Minutemen-based emergency broadcast service. Thus the Freedom team name.

The Freedom are led by former Minutemen colonel, Luke Lawyer. Lawyer originally came to the Commonwealth in 2290 when his settlement at the Zaccheus Gould House was sacked by the Bellbivv Devough Raiders that range from north of Salem to Southeast Connecticut. He was able to fight his way east with a group of survivors and use an abandoned boat to sail down the Atlantic Coast. They ended up landing at the Castle where he and his group immediately joined the Minutemen cause.

The top player in the first year of the Freedom is a player who did not play in the BYDL before, senior 2B Michael Footclaw. Footclaw projects in the 2nd round of the 2300 Rookie Draft as a power-hitting second baseman. The player who has been best in the Freedom’s initial campaign has been 1B Paul Jaggers. While Footclaw is projected as a power hitter, the sophomore Jaggers is already there as one of the BYDL’s top home run hitters.

[Writer’s note: When researching for this story, I realized that I misplaced Lynn Pier on my teams map. The correct area is shown in the attached map segment.]

Next on our list are the Lynn Pier Gamers, the only of the Final Four in the North Region. Lynn Pier is located north of Nahant and Nordhagen Beach with the only land-based means to travel between the two areas instead of going by boat or over the floating piers of Libertalia. Lynn Pier also serves as a hub for caravans moving through County Crossing to the northeast areas, like Salem.

The team is led by a traveling baseball veteran, Adrian Blessing. Blessing played for four years with the Quannapowitt Mud Hoppers, also the original team of former 1st-round pick Front Porch Potter. Blessing retired from playing baseball after he was hit by Super Mutant minigun fire.

The Gamers are also named for the local youth’s favorite pastime, gaming. Lynn Pier features one of the larger gaming sites around, Lucky Bucky’s Terminal Emporium, where the youth gather to lay some of their favorite game cartridges: Atomic Command, Automatron, Captain Cosmos in ‘Jangle’s Big Day,’ Grognak & The Ruby Ruins, Pipfall, Zeta Invaders, and the source of their logo, Red Menace.

Lynn Pier has also benefited from inheriting two solid seniors in left fielder Gin Kwon and catcher Sam Herpderp. They also have their own local youth star in freshman third baseman Rico Tub. Thanks to those three players, the Gamers have enjoyed success in their first BYDL season.

Cue: Logo – Spectacle Island Reapers

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1629082207

The next team in the Final Four is in one of our favorite locations, the tourist destination Spectacle Island. Other than the occasional mirelurk invasion, Spectacle Island is among the safest areas in all of the Commonwealth.

The team is led by a member of one of the top families in Spectacle Island, Nate Bedheadson. The Bedheadsons currently run their father’s Bedhead Resort on the northwest side of the island where the South Boston Ferry runs.

The Bedheadsons have been working to try to secure a franchise for the CBO should the CBO ever expand, though there are no plans at this time. Still, Spectacle Island has been a popular spot for vacationing Commonwealth citizens and makes a good place for travelers to enjoy baseball, even if right now they are only watching youth play.

The team took on its Reapers name thanks to Spectacle Island’s perception of being the beacon of Luck in the Commonwealth. A perk among the chosen includes the Grim Reaper’s Sprint, an ability to refill Action Points with a kill. The Reapers name seemed to fit for the island’s lucky spirit and a shortened version of the perk.

The Reapers did not seem lucky at first, losing senior starting pitcher Little Fly Boyd to a caravan company headed for a place called The Pitt. Instead they have relied on some talented youngsters in catcher Madboy Monteh and first baseman Angus McGuyver.

Cue: Music – "Mighty, Mighty Man" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhp8...el=HeathWilson
Cue: Logo – West Quincy Atomatoys

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1629082223

Finally, our last team in the Final Four is one team that had to lose talent rather than obtain it, the West Quincy Atomatoys. Formed after the Quincy Youth League folded after the 2299 season, the Atomatoys name was one of the five teams in the league before. The league also included the Poseidon Energy and Quincy teams A, B, and C, also known as the Greens, Blues, and Grays.

The team, sponsored by their namesake, Atomatoys had to distribute some of the their players from the league to other teams, but they did get to keep some talented players in West Quincy.

Where they may have hurt themselves in Year One was to allow most of their better seniors to leave the team to play elsewhere. The Atomatoys decided to keep only one in their top returning senior, shortstop Westward “Westie” Segoviand. They also have an immensely second-year guy in left fielder Forrest Library who may end up being the top pick in the 2302 draft.

Placed in the same division, the Samuel Adams Division, as both the Reapers and Freedom, the Atomatoys have not seen as much success in Year One, but hope to build a legacy in their own little corner of the Commonwealth with their big league brothers, the Quincy Gunners, not far away.

That concludes Part 7 of our seven-part series. We hope you have enjoyed our run through the Boston Youth Development League. With the 24 teams that have joined the league, we now have no shortage of baseball talent in the Commonwealth. With all of the incoming talent, we may one day have 100 youth teams hitting baseballs and bringing peace to the home we love. Thank you again for tuning in, and please stay tuned for out upcoming baseball features right here on BosCom TV! This has been your honored host, Philip Wallace. Good night!

News from Around the League

8 June - Nordhagen Beach's Beach Diagnosis Revealed: The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys have made it official: Tommy Beach is headed to the injured list. The 23-year-old starting pitcher has been out since 06/06/2300 with a fractured thumb. He is expected to miss 7 weeks.

This season Beach has worked 91.2 innings with 80 strikeouts en route to a 6-2 record and a 2.55 ERA.
The Party Boys are now without three of their regular starters with Julian Shed and Matt Ranger still out with their injuries. Accident John is expected to step in to Beach’s pitching slot.

9 June - Swift Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games: Mike Swift continued his streak at Tarberry Field Forever today, even as the ballgame did not go his way. The Nordhagen Beach catcher was 2-for-5 in today's contest and now has hit safely in his last 20 games. The Party Boys were not as fortunate, losing 9-8 to the The Slog Ghouls.

"Swift was hitting everything we threw at him," said The Slog manager Dick Tricky. "He is a tough out. Fortunately, things went our way in the ballgame today and we came away with a win."
Mike Swift grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

Swift is hitting .365 in 2300 with 16 RBIs and 2 home runs.

9 June - Cherry Ghoulrillas Ship Garden to Finch Farm: The Cherry Ghoulrillas have finalized a deal with the Finch Farm Four Leafs for the services of 25-year-old minor league 2B Kurt Pool. In exchange, the Four Leafs will receive 31-year-old CF Andre Garden.

This year Garden is hitting .253 with 14 home runs.

Players of the Week

North Charles Association Picks Top Player: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the North Charles Association, but last week Ben Pawlak of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Pawlak rocked opposing pitching for a .556 average (10-for-18), 1 home run and 5 RBIs to come away with the award.

This year Pawlak is batting .340 with 13 home runs.

SCA Awards Best Batter Prize to Danse: Veteran Paladin Danse had a great week at the plate for the Ninjas to capture the majority of votes for Player of the Week in the South Charles Association.

The 34-year-old Egret left fielder built a .474 average on the strength of 9 hits in 19 at-bats, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.

This season Danse has banged out 47 hits in 187 at-bats for a .251 average with 12 home runs. He is getting on base at a .344 pace and his totals also include 33 RBIs and 37 runs scored.

Analysis

The Top 5 is a steady diet of teams with some past success, all looking to supplant the poor-performing defending champions for the Sole Survivor Series in 2300. As we reach the halfway point of the season this coming week, we hope that there are still chances for movement and surprises.

Goodneighbor maintains the top spot to go along with the best record in the CBO. After dropping their first game at FHE (#11), they won the next four over the Yao Guai and Atom (#21) for a 4-1 week.

Despite the bad news of losing their ace pitcher for awhile, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys come in at #2 with a 4-1 week. They swept Lexington (#16) and then won 2 of 3 at The Slog (#15) to maintain a two-game lead over the #3 team, Easy Town. The Assaultrons were 3-2 in the week, splitting at Starlight (#17) and then taking 2 of 3 versus Salem (#8).

Fort Hagen dropped to #4 this week after a weak showing over the week. The Silver Shroud were swept by Salem and dropped 2 of 3 at Lexington in a 1-4 week to see their league lead drop to one game, as well as sacrificing the top record in the North Charles Association to the Party Boys.

The Abernathy Adamantium (#6), our featured team this week, had a chance to take over first place in the Institute League. However, they dropped their last two games at Concord (#7) to finish the week only 3-2.

Team Focus: Abernathy Adamantium

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1629543741

IL winners in 2296 and 2298, the Abernathy Adamantium are looking to continue their even season success in 2300. Now just one game back of last year’s IL champs, the Silver Shroud, the Adamantium have made a sold push to the top, including a 14-8 May to help propel them.

On offense, the non-secret is that Abernathy is pretty bad. Their only two top-half statistical categories are OBP (6th at .325) and stolen bases (3rd at 39). Otherwise, they are in the bottom half in every other offensive category. The most telling is that they are 11th in the NCA in runs scored (196). Only two starters are hitting above .300: 1B Steve Settler (.332/5/22) and LF Bloatfly Williams (.314/2/16). Only RF Donny Kowalski (.259/10/30) has hit over 10 home runs for the 11th-best power team.

While the offense is not good, the pitching is outstanding. Abernathy is 1st in the NCA and CBO in runs allowed (170), Starters ERA (3.09), and Bullpen ERA (2.56). They have allowed 26 fewer runs than the next best team, Nordhagen Beach. The Adamantium is also #1 in Defensive Efficiency (.719), showing that they can shut teams down with good pitching and defense. Lack of run support has affected pitcher’s records in low-scoring games, like yesterday’s 1-0 loss in 10 innings, despite Brad Westing (6-6, 2.75) pitching a shutout through 9 innings. Gerald Jerry (6-3, 2.35) and Mike Rubric (4-2, 2.72) both hold sub 3.00 ERAs, while fourth starter Bad Company Grognak (3-4, 3.89) is also pitching well. Kyle Hooch (1-1, 0.44) has been one of the most dominant bullpen pitchers in 2300, while closer T-Bone Heagy (17 SV, 4.18) has had a few late-inning struggles.

For Abernathy to find continued success, they need to find a way to start hitting the ball better in the second half of the season. Assuming they can remain healthy on the mound, they should remain competitive and keep most games to low-scoring affairs. A clutch hit here and there could then be all they need to continue winning at a .550+ percentage, which should be enough to get a team in the playoffs.

This Week in the BMU

News Around the League

5 June - Shaum Stops Bunker Hill Cold, Robotics Experts Win, 3-0: 23-year-old Galleria Robotics Experts pitcher Punky Shaum had a strong outing against the Bunker Hill Gun Fu at Wicked Shipping Field today, keeping them off the scoreboard the whole game. He struck out 5 in the 3-0 win and walked 0 while surrendering 6 hits.

"Hopefully there will be plenty more of these in the future for us," he said.

This year Shaum has worked 52.1 innings with 47 strikeouts en route to a 4-1 record and 3.27 ERA.

Pugilists End Covert's Streak: The 25-game hitting streak of Kevin Covert has come to an end. The Haymarket Mall Commandos left fielder went 0-for-4 today in his team's 2-1 loss to the Forest Grove Pugilists at Garden Terrace Field.

"It's not just Kevin who came up short today," Commandos manager Squirt Becker said in his postgame press conference. "This was a team loss."

In 2300 Covert has hit at a .427 clip with 53 hits, 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and has scored 22 times.

Players of the Week

CA Star of the Week Named: At the age of 27, Bill Lebowski might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Taffington Boathouse left fielder put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .583 batting average. For his efforts Lebowski collected the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 7 hits in 12 at-bats, 2 home runs and 10 RBIs last week in 3 games.

Looking at his stats this year, Lebowski has compiled a .306 batting average, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 19 runs. He has played in 31 games and scored 22 runs.

Week's Premier Player: Forest Grove's Church: 20-year-old Moses Church made a few Forest Grove headlines during this past week as the rookie left fielder proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Massachusetts Association officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 5 hits in 9 at-bats to put up a .556 average. Church collected 5 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 5 runs.

This season Church is batting .382 with 24 RBIs, 27 runs scored and 12 home runs.

Prospect Spotlight

The Movers and Shakers: Players ready to move up or jump to another team. We'll take a look at four young players who have the talent to play at the next level now, but may need an injury or trade to get that chance.

1B Dusty Brownell, Boston Common Lead Bellies (University Point), 38/103 (.369), 2 2B, 22 HR, 30 R, 48 RBI, 24 BB, 19 SO
Analysis: Drafted in the 13th round of the then East Boston Prep Assaultrons, Brownell has never been given the chance he needs at the CBO level to thrive. Considered to be the top in current talent in the BMU, the power-hitting first baseman is stuck on a franchise with little chance for upward movement. That is because the Deathclaws have a player named Barker Cocoa hitting .362 with 17 homers and 46 RBI. For Brownell to get his chance, he will need to be moved, which is a possibility for the suddenly-struggling UP team. Once in first place in the Minutemen League, the Claws are now seven games back of Goodneighbor and a game back of the 5th wildcard spot.

CF Gee Force, Charles View Cannibals (Warwick), 27/83 (.325), 3 2B, 3B, 5 HR, 17 R, 11 RBI, 11 BB, 9 SO, 5 SB, 2 CS
Analysis: Force did get his shot earlier in the season, playing in 10 games for the Mirelurks where he hit .190 in 21 at bats with a double and triple. A 2nd-round pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft, Force has shown that he has good current talent with better future potential. However, he must take advantage of the opportunity when he gets another shot.

SP Chris Ciccone, Union Hope Lifegivers (Lexington), 2 GS, 0-0, 3.86, 14.0 IP, 16 HA, 6 ER, 2 BB, 8 K
Analysis: For a guy who has started only two games in 2300, Ciccone seems a strange choice to be here. But that is because a serious elbow injury derailed his 2299 season, leading to a late comeback this season. Sure, he was 2-9 with a 5.81 ERA with Lexington in 2300, but Ciccone had talent to burn. He features three good pitches with a fourth OK one. He also has good movement and control and overall keeps balls in the park. The Synths could use his services right now, with Chad Sweet (1-8. 5.63) struggling immensely.

CF Jared Zaccone, College Square Nerd Ragers (Concord), 31/94 (.330), 2 2B, HR, 18 R, 11 RBI, 13 BB, 19 SO, 8 SB, 3 CS
Analysis: Concord's 2nd-round pick in the 2296 Rookie Draft, Zaccone has yet to get his shot at the CBO level with the Radstags. Some think his fiery and confrontational personality is to blame, but the Radstags also sport a decently good outfield with Dan Erb, Pockets Aintfull, and Gene Leftswipe. Zaccone could fit in as a decent leadoff hitter on a team or at least bat at the bottom of the order to help steal late-lineup runs. Unless the Stags hit a cold streak or become injury-prone, Zaccone probably needs the team to move him for his first CBO chance.

BYDL - Outstanding Prospects

Each week, we here at BNN will feature some of the Boston Youth Development League players showing their potential.

North Region

Lebowitz Selected Player of the Week: Nuke Lebowitz burst onto the North Region stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie first baseman for Wattz garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy.

The 15-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .579 (11-for-19) with 5 home runs and 10 RBIs last week.

For the season Lebowitz is hitting .380, batted in 96 runs with 27 home runs and 79 runs scored.

South Region

Star of the Week Named in SR: Michael Footclaw swung a blistering bat last week for Castle, rapping out 9 hits in 20 at-bats against Freedom opponents to propel himself to the South Region Player of the Week Award.

Whenever the second baseman hit the ball, he hit it with authority. The 18-year-old racked up a .450 batting average with 5 home runs, 14 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

This season Footclaw is batting .275 with 23 home runs. He has scored 78 runs and driven in 68.

Milestones

Hit Streak Now at 58 for Drool: With 2 hits at Covenant Park today, Jake Drool added another game to his hitting streak -- the Pleasant left fielder has now hit safely for 58 games in a row. But the hitting feat wasn't enough for the Minigunners today, as they fell, 19-10, to the Green Future Sea Urchins.

"Frankly, I don't care about hits," Green Future manager Ben Shea said later. "I'll let him get 5 hits in 5 at-bats if it means we get a win."
Jake Drool grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off Glenn Gum in the 8th.

This season Drool is hitting .480 with 13 home runs.

Nuka News Update

All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World

by Evan Guy

News of the Week

6 June - Orange Loses Tommy for Season: The season will end prematurely for Wuguns Tommy, the Orange starting pitcher. He suffered ulnar nerve entrapment on 06/02/2300, an injury that is serious enough to knock him out of action for the rest of the year. Tommy was not available for comment.

For this year Tommy has chalked up 1 win and 5 losses in 12 starts with 35 strikeouts in 52.1 innings and a 5.50 ERA.

8 June - Hits Galore: Johnson Drills 5 Hits: Walton Johnson said "it felt like taking batting practice" today at John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field, and it showed in the box score. The Victory center fielder had a fantastic 5-for-5 day against the Wild Gatorclaws, leading his club to victory, 10-3.

"I was seeing the ball very well and it was going just about anywhere I wanted," Johnson said later."

Walton Johnson singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 7th.

For the year Johnson has hit at a .347 clip with 31 RBIs, 10 home runs and 38 runs scored.

9 June - 20 Games in a Row for Bobb: Chalk up another one for Wild Gatorclaws third baseman Ryan Bobb. He now has hit in 20 straight games. Bobb went 4-for-5 today's game at John-Caleb Bradberton Honorary Field but saw his club defeated 9-7 by the host Victory Cave Crickets.

"Playing on the road always makes it harder to get hits and to get wins," Gatorclaws manager Mark Wike said after the game. "We got one of the two, but unfortunately it was the wrong one."
Ryan Bobb doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.

This year Bobb has hit 3 home runs and posted a .366 batting average.

10 June - Gatorclaws Get One to Win: Wild rode the magical arm of Ike Like in a 1-0 shutout win over Victory. He shackled them on 4 hits and fanned 3. Almost to a man, the Victory Cave Crickets said he had them guessing wrong all game long.

In 11 starts this year Like has recorded a 6-2 record and a 2.66 ERA.

11 June - Lockpick Bags NWL Best Player Award: The votes have been cast and counted and the winner of the Nuka World League Player of the Week has been chosen. It was presented earlier today to David Lockpick for his red-hot week of hitting.

The Orange right fielder took home the trophy by splurging with 10 hits in 24 at-bats for a .417 batting average, driving in 11 runs and scoring 3 times.

In 48 games this season Lockpick has compiled a .325 batting average with 62 hits and 8 home runs. He has also scored 35 times and knocked in 33 runs.

Player of the Week

Vaught on the Attack, Player of the Week: So far in his young career, Phil Vaught has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the NWL B League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 22-year-old Orange B Tourists left fielder hit at a torrid .467 clip as he collected 7 hits in 15 at-bats, no home runs, 0 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

So far in 2300 Vaught is batting .245 with no home runs, 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored. He has 13 hits in 53 at-bats and a .355 OBP.

Just to show we still care about the leagues other than the main one, and we do, I'll actually comment on the Nuka League for a change :p

I feel like I'm contractually obligated to like Orange, but I'm still pulling for Quartz. Sadly they don't seem to be shining as brightly as they did out of the gate with the league, but eh, it could be worse, and it's still a young league, so...

I noticed that Quartz has not made some of those trades with the CBO that a few other teams have. For example, Victory has the premier pitcher now in former Warwick pitcher John Diner. Former Mirleurks backup 1B Random Lurkcakes is batting .379 for Cherry. LF Phil Roachrider was a nobody that was released by Fort Hagen. Now he's leading the NWL in WAR at 4.1 for Victory. Right behind him is 1B Justin Salvage who was traded to Dark from Finch Farm. There are a few more examples.

Far Harbor's League Announcement

Name: Small Bertha
Subject: Baseball
Date of Submission: 15 June 2300

Message:

Nate,

We have received all uniforms. The model took pictures in all of them like you said. I sent them to Erin Reische and you. I attached pictures like you said.

Here are the final details we decided. We didn't want 8 teams, we wanted 10. We have 10. We made them two leagues but they all play each other. One league is the Fog League and the other is the Harbor League.

Our main league name is the Vim! League. I know you liked for us to be the Far Harbor League, but if that bastard Bradberton can use his company name in his league, then I can use mine. Get over it. Maybe we'll make it the Vim! Far Harbor League. But I prefer Vim! Simple. Delicious. Great. And better than Bradberton's ****ing league.

You can see the attached pictures for everything you asked for. League logo, model pictures with team names and uniforms, and team map. Come visit in the offseason to help see this through.

Bertha, the Small One

Oh yeah, Far Harbor, I had forgotten about them, but was looking forward to that league if it debuted. I assume setting this up was bogging you down a bit too. Don't know if I'll pick a team yet, but I'm gravitating towards Far Harbor itself or Acadia, but I feel as if those are the obvious picks. But hey, I like them the best, what can I say! Maybe some other team will impress me though.

There was another project that took up some time. But most of it has been being busy with work and starting on my doctorate. Those two things eat up a lot of time. I have been playing OOTP a bit more lately. Unfortunately for OOTP, I don't get to sit back and enjoy the world as much since I need to move slowly and get out the stories as often as possible. Anyway, I am ready to finish up my Analysis and Team Focus for this week, and then I'll post a bit today.
