Unfortunately, the auction listing had this one wrong. Although the title and description list him as "Boston Braves Obscure Superstar," Nicholson is pictured with the 1920 Pirates.

Here is a clearer option of the same photo at a much higher resolution.

My first and second attempt on GIMP.

These are both good first (or second) attempts to transform the player from the Portland Beavers to the Seattle Pilots. A few tips on colorizing using Gimp. With images like this of Twitchell that sort of have a sepia like color to them, I find it is often better to start out with a clean slate and a fresh black and white image. This is accomplished by clicking on the "colors" tab and then "desaturate". I usually also then adjust the brightness by clicking on "colors' then "Auto" then "white balance"
This will usually make the face color a little better.
This is the link on how to use GIMP that got me started. https://www.maketecheasier.com/color...tos-with-gimp/
It is pretty basic but you will find that it is very gainful to experiment. On this page in the Thread http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...=219612&page=8 I did a quasi-tutorial.
The work you are attempting involves a little more work than a basic colorizing job. I find it best to look for a second player image wearing the uniform and cap that you want (not necessarily the same image either.) The second image should be of similar resolution as your original (i.e. don't use a newspaper clipping and juxtapose a detailed portrait) and then similar posing of the player in both of the images.
I worked the image from scratch once I located the Beavers image that you used a starting point. I used the cap from the image of Nasusel Cabrera that we collaborated on before (The cap can be saved as a in the GIMP format and then can be reused again by the way). and a uniform that I had previously placed on Cabrera. Then use the "transform" feature in the Tools menu to shape the pieces as you need them.

Thank you for the pointers and guide to customize better.

Found this image on RMY. It is labeled as "Mule" Watson but sure looks more like Milt Watson to me. The item description reads "Large 1917 portrait photograph of obscure pitcher Milt "Mule" Watson in uniform with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was also a member of the Phillies and is a tough player to find images of. " Mule Watson never pitched for the Cardinals
