Hmmmm, some things are the same, but things have been a bit shaken up now I think we can say. If we get a repeat playoffs this year, I'd be very, very surprised. Don't really have anything insightful to say at present time, though.

OrangeP47 01-19-2022 09:33 PM

Though I did remember something Fallout lore-wise I came across that's pretty obscure and thought I'd share, it might relate to if you do any more exposition about pre-war baseball as it relates to the Blue Jays and/or Expos, though IIRC I think we all decided that they never existed or moved before things got dicey in this timeline. I know most of the time when people inquire what happened to Canada after it was annexed we just get a big question mark, but apparently the provinces became regular territories similar to Puerto Rico. Saw a lore video that pointed out one of the weapons in New Vegas has, on it's side, a stamp about where it was produced, which reads "Ontario Territory, USA".

I tried to find more on Canada, but there is just not a lot that is canon. Well, my story is not canon, either, so I could do what I want with it. It could be an interesting divergence from my story (some day) to further explore the Pre-War Major Leagues and seek out some of the stars of the 2030s-2070s, including Mr. Matt Murtagh, the two-way star of the Sox.

Yeah, the Golden Rule is "do what you want", basically. I just found that interesting because we were kind of under the impression when we had the last conversation that it was totally impossible for MLB to be in Canada in this timeline, but I think this bit allows "room to maneuver" if you get my meaning. It doesn't say one way or another how things are, but allows you the freedom to do what you want, and I'm always a fan of having more options.

Feature: Orange Is the New Back

Eight place, seventh place, FIRST place? The Orange Tourists got off to a terrible start in their Nuka World League premier, finishing dead last and just above it in their first two seasons. This season, though, they are looking to break the regular season record held by Quartz from last season (49-35, .583). At 28-8 (.778), the Tourists may shatter that record.

Looking at some of their transactions, Orange acquired a few key players for the 2301 season. That includes Finch Farm throwaway Bull Johnson (3-2, 2.92, 3rd in NWL in ERA) as their ace. Johnson left the Four Leafs from the CBO following the 2299 season, sitting out all of 2300. Then the Four Leafs traded him to Orange for a few part-time players in their organization. Now, Johnson is a force in the NWL, currently second in strikeouts (56), first in K/9 (9.6), and third in ERA+ (172).

Besides Johnson, the Tourists also signed Micha Ballard (5-0, 3.83, T-2nd in wins) after he was cut by The Slog during the 2300 offseason. Ballard was 6-2 with a 5.36 ERA with the CBO's Ghouls in 2300 in 14 starts. Ballard took the opportunity after his time with The Slog to try to make his name among the Commonwealth's major tourist attractions.

1B Brennan Barratt is a third potential star for the Tourists who came over from the CBO, this time from the Oberland T-51s organization. In a straight up trade for the Tourists' ace in 2300, David Orangeman, the T-51s sent Barratt to Orange. In 2300 with the Fiddler's Green T-60s, Barratt hit .400 in 20 at-bats with two home runs and eight RBI. This season, he is showing his worth, batting .440 (4th in NWL) in 125 at-bats with three home runs and 28 RBI (T-9th).

With those three players joining some already productive Orange players in SP Sooner Coen (4-0, 1.74, 1st in ERA), RF Able Gabel (.442/2/32, 3rd in average and 5th in RBI), and CL Robbie Graves (14 SV, 1st in NWL) the Tourists are well above the rest of the NWL and at this point look to be the 2301 frontrunners.

NWLB News

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1642863648

Gralinski Nabs NWLB Weekly Award: Nobody in the NWL B League had a better week than Blue Gralinski... Noooo-body! That's why he was voted the Player of the Week.

This year Gralinski has hit at a .237 clip with 31 hits, 4 home runs, 22 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

APYL News

Kingdom Selected Top Player: Shane Kingdom stepped up to the plate in a big way last week and today he took home the Amusement Park Youth League Player of the Week honors.

The Grandchester right fielder ripped opposing pitchers for 6 hits in 14 at-bats and 5 home runs. He put together a sizzling .429 batting average as he knocked in 8 runs and scored 6 times.

On the year Kingdom has hit .242 with 5 home runs, 9 RBIs and scored 8 runs.

VIML AAA News

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1642863656

Herman: Big Hit in the Fog League AAA: His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing John Herman was rewarded with the Fog League AAA Player of the Week honors.

So far this year Herman is batting .340 with 2 home runs.

Moustache Chosen #1 Player: Rammy Moustache must have thought he was in seventh heaven this week. First he went on a sensational hitting spree, belting the ball at a .417 pace, then the Dalton Farm AAA first baseman finds out he has been selected the top performer and gets the Harbor League AAA Player of the Week Award.

Asked what his hitting philosophy was, Moustache quipped to the BNN reporters, "Well, my theory of hitting is to just watch the ball as it comes in and hit it."

It was a good week's work for Moustache. He hit .417 average (10-for-24) with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs.

This year Moustache has batted at a .259 pace with 29 hits, 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and scored 19 times.

I am going to work on it some more on re-establishing an early timeline, and I promise to write in some Canadian influence in the 21st Century (at least) MLB timeline. :D There has to be a pre-War book available in a library somewhere that will be unearthed. Hmmm.... that reminds me of a character yet to be introduced. THAT person is the one who would have the book on hand!

In my Fallout universe, the Elder Scrolls universe most certainly exists!!!

BTW, Bry McBourbon of the Everett Mutant Hounds (The Slog BMU affiliate) looks to be coming around in his second season. He still has some developing to do, but he is 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in seven starts and eight appearances this season. Currently he is tied for first with Nahant's Trolley Dodge in the Commonwealth Association with a 1.9 WAR.

EDIT: Since Dodge recently got called up to Finch Farm, that essentially makes McBourbon first in the entire BMU in pitcher WAR.

[In Universe] I mean... I'm not a fan of those Canadians... no sir, not me! [/In Universe]

At the risk of getting too far off topic, can't remember if I mentioned it recently, but getting addicted to Elder Scrolls again is actually probably why I still haven't finished Nuka World (I alt-tabbed out of Skyrim to post my previous comment). It has got me thinking, though, what organized sports would look like in Tamriel. I mean we know the Arena district exists, but I wonder about sports more... ball oriented

OK, I think I fleshed out a timeline that can be satisfying. Thanks to the divergence, there were also a few economical changes in time that caused MLB to be similar but different in its expansion and relocation decisions.

I look forward to seeing the teams. I think I had fleshed out some Nirn teams once. My first game in the series was Morrowind, but I think I had considered it relating to Oblivion. I am pretty sure there was a Kvatch team in my planning. It feels so long since I last played Oblivion that I can't remember.

OrangeP47 01-22-2022 04:38 PM

Was not expecting a timeline so fast, but nicely done. Was anything specific about the 2060 date chosen for moving out of Canada? I guess the big canon dates are 2052 for the resource wars (and probably the start of bad times in general) and 2066 for the US-China War. TBH I kinda like the 2060 date as it would imply Canada was a tricky situation even before events usually focused on. Also remember Mexico was no picnic too.

Also interesting that your 35th and 36th MLB teams are the exact same as my 35th and 36th team in my fun save, well, not the same nickname, but Charlotte and Portland are 35 and 36 in the fun timeline. One each for AL and NL for me. I think most people put them sooner, but tbh this feels right for Fallout.

And I see what you did with New Orleans ;) A pretty fitting pick though as I'm pretty sure New Orleans is the top city wanted for Fallout 5.

Also interested in seeing this. For me it'd be a hard choice deciding what scale to go with, though someone smarter with OOTP than me could probably even make some kind of pyramid like with soccer, with the majors being continent wide and the minors being some kind of provincial system.

Analysis

The top of the Power Rankings shuffled with two top teams thriving while some others are struggling.

With a five-game winning streak, #1 Nordhagen Beach takes over the top spot and the best record in the CBO at 28-12. The Party Boys started the week with a two-game sweep of Concord (#7) and then a weekend sweep at Finch Farm (#23).

#2 Vault 81 returns to first place in the Railroad League with their big week. In five games, the Dwellers swept both of the first-place teams in the SCA on the road. They took on University Point (#3) and then defeated league rival Diamond City (#6). It is safe to say that Vault 81 had the single-best week of the season.

As mentioned above, the Deathclaws are #3 after a 2-3 week. In addition to their two losses to the Dwellers, University Point beat Quincy (#14) two out of three.

Feature: MVP Watch Through 1/3 of the 2301 Season

In his rookie campaign, the Easy Town Assaultrons wanted him to concentrate on one thing: batting. He rewarded the team with a .330 average, 22 home runs, and 75 RBI. However, he was still hungry to do everything he could to help his team win.

This season, he has been even more successful at the plate, batting .333 in 120 at bats with 11 homers and 28 RBI. On top of that, he has moved himself into the starting pitching rotation. In his first 10 starts of his CBO pitching career, he is 5-3 with a pedestrian 5.30 ERA. But he brings something most pitchers do not: the ability to produce more runs than he allows.

It is no doubt: 1B/SP Lannie Tykeson has turned out so far to be the steal of the 2296 Rookie Draft. Drafted in the 5th round, #107 overall, Easy Town was patient in developing him to hit and pitch, and now Tykeson is the leader for the 2301 MVP award. He has already notched two awards in winning both the 2300 Red Rocket Rookie Award and the Corvega Top Defender Award at 1B. Now, he has bigger goals.

Other players to watch:
1B Barker Cocoa, University Point - .359/.514/.725, 13 HR, 31 RBI, 1st in CBO in SLG, OPS, BB, ISO, OPS+, and wOBA.
CF Aesed Hayjen, Vault 81 - .351/.446/.689, 14 HR, 42 RBI, 37 R, 25 SB, 1st in HR, RBI, and SB.

Players of the Week

Fleeker Wins CA Player of the Week: One of the league's most exciting young players, Bubbles Fleeker of the Everett Mutant Hounds earned himself Commonwealth Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

Week's Top Performer Honored by MA: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Massachusetts Association, but last week Chris Motley of the Fiddler's Green T-60s reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Motley rocked opposing pitching for a .615 average (8-for-13), 3 home runs and 7 RBIs to come away with the award.

Motley is swinging at a .545 pace on the year with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 13 runs scored. He has played in 9 games.

Based on this: "2059: The Anchorage Front Line is established, as the United States increases its military presence in Alaska to protect its oil interests. The Anchorage Front Line causes tensions in the United States and Canada, as the United States attempts to pressure Canada into allowing American military units to guard the Alaskan pipeline." Source: https://fallout-archive.fandom.com/w...llout_timeline

I imagined that Canada kicked the teams out, forcing them to relocate to American cities.

Ah yeah, I recall reading that now before at some point. Forgive me, with how expansive the universe is, can't remember everything at all times ;)

CBO Players of the Month

Abernathy's Engill Chosen NCA Batter of the Month: When Austin Engill stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the North Charles Association Batter of the Month award.

The young Abernathy shortstop posted a .312 batting average with 9 home runs, 26 RBIs and scored 21 runs. Engill also worked pitchers for 14 walks to post a .421 on-base percentage.

So far this season Engill has hit .299 with 12 home runs, 41 RBIs and scored 37 times.

Laughy Earns May's Top Batter Prize in SCA: Ricky Ticky Laughy may be much younger than other hitters in the South Charles Association, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in May to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 23-year-old Oberland center fielder hit .393 with 11 home runs, 32 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

For the year Laughy is batting .303 with 14 home runs, 44 RBIs and 36 runs scored.

Beach Earns May's Best Pitcher Honor: Tommy Beach is the latest North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award winner. The Nordhagen Beach starter shone on the hill repeatedly last month and finished May with a sparkling 4-0 record.

In 6 starts he tossed 42.1 innings, posted 32 strikeouts, and put up a 1.49 ERA.

So far this season Beach has a 7-2 record with a 1.83 ERA.

Dimes Chosen May's Best SCA Hurler: Joey Dimes of the Quincy Gunners was on top of his game the entire month of May, capping it off with the South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month honors.

He was outstanding in 5 starts with 4 wins and no losses, 41 IP, 33 strikeouts and a fine 1.32 ERA.

This season-to-date Dimes has 5 wins and 1 loss and a 2.13 ERA.

Rookie Swinger Scores Big in May: Youngster Gargoyle Falcone emerged as the latest North Charles Association Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Fort Hagen deserved the honor, batting .312 with 1 home run and 19 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Falcone enjoy the limelight.

This season Falcone is batting .292 with 25 RBIs, 15 runs scored and 1 home run.

Beachball Picked May's Best Newcomer: The outstanding rookie has been named for May -- and the winner is Wilson Beachball.
The South Charles Association awarded the trophy to him today in a press conference.
It was his dazzling 4-1 record that brought the University Point starter the Rookie of the Month award.

Beachball stood out last month with a 3.12 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 34.2 innings, fanned 20 and held other teams to a .213 average.

To this point in the season, Beachball shows a 8-2 record, 11 starts, 78.2 innings, 45 strikeouts and a 3.66 ERA.

BMU Players of the Month

Chris Knickerbocker is May's #1 Hitter in CA: Chris Knickerbocker made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Commonwealth Association this past month.

The C.I.T. Ruins Refractors right fielder shined through the month of May and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 23-year-old hit .353 with 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Red-Hot May Lands Thesea Batting Prize in MA: At only 22 years of age, Bobby Thesea could very well be having many more months like the last this in his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Charles View Cannibals, as May was one to remember for the left fielder and he has captured the Massachusetts Association Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .345 with 10 home runs, 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Taffington Boathouse Starter Named CA's Premier Pitcher: May was a very good month for Ryan Lynn of the Taffington Boathouse Spy Hunters. He held opposing hitters for a .232 average and took home the Commonwealth Association Pitcher of the Month award.

In 3 starts he claimed a 3-0 record as he put up a 3.25 ERA and struck out 13 in 27.2 innings.

Poole Garners MA #1 Pitcher Award: When Whokill Poole takes the hill, he usually takes command of the game -- at least that's the way it was in May. The outcome was usually a Forest Grove victory. His fine 2-0 performance earned him the Massachusetts Association Pitcher of the Month trophy.

The talented Pugilists hurler made 4 starts, worked 30 innings, permitted 24 base hits, and struck out 27 while putting up a 1.80 ERA.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL's Premier Batter Picked: Danny Faraday is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Lynn Woods center fielder joined that select company when the North League announced the results of May's voting.

Faraday totaled 28 hits, 11 walks, 2 home runs, 7 RBIs and 21 runs scored last month to put together a .459 batting average and .542 on-base percentage.

Coast Guard Pier's Allen Snaps Up May Batting Award: Water Allen has a lot going for him. The Coast Guard Pier shortstop just broke into the majors this year and now the South League has just picked him as its top hitter for May.

In 15 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .492 with no home runs, 5 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

Robotics Experts Hurler Named May's Top Starter: The Pitcher of the Month Award in May has been selected and the North League honor went to Galleria hurler, Wheelcap Scrapperman. For his excellent performance he has been named the league's top pitcher.

During the month, Scrapperman was superb with a 1.64 ERA and 3 wins and no losses. In 33 innings he struck out 20 and gave up 22 hits and 17 walks.

South Boston Starter Named SL's Best Pitcher: The South League scribes have announced May's Pitcher of the Month and have given the award to Danny Machart of South Boston. He was one tough cookie on the mound last month with a fine 4-0 mark to prove it.

The South Boston star made 4 starts with a 1.35 ERA and surrendered 25 hits in 33.1 innings. He struck out 36 and walked 14.

Boston Youth Development League Report

Players of the Month

NR's Top Hitter Announced: Cope Kearns put together a good May to earn the North Region Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Beerthirty officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Sippers shortstop posted a .437 batting average with 13 home runs, 36 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

Kearns is hitting .403 for the season with 23 home runs, 67 RBIs and 77 runs scored. He has 85 hits in 211 at-bats and played in 53 games.

Grandson Quarles Selected May's Best Batter: Not known for his offensive prowess, Grandson Quarles set the league afire in May and took home the South Region Batter of the Month award.

The South Beach right fielder posted a steady .433 batting average, 16 home runs, 36 RBIs and 36 runs.

For the season Quarles is currently batting .426 with 24 home runs and 72 RBIs. In 54 games he has reached base at a .515 rate and scored 67 runs to date.

May's #1 Starter Named in NR: There's something about a young rookie winning the North Region Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Scott Fuhr, a 14-year-old starter for the Lynn Pier Gamers.

In May, he topped off the month with a 4-0 mark and 1.80 ERA in 7 starts, tossed 50 innings, fanned 77 and held opposing teams to a .228 average.

To date this season, Fuhr has a record of 8 wins and no losses and a 2.68 ERA. He has appeared in 14 games and struck out 129 in 87.1 innings.

SR Premier Pitcher is Andrew Station's Horn: In May when the Andrew Station manager wrote the name "Horn" on the lineup card, he knew he had a good shot at winning. Start after start in the month, Hollywood Joe Horn took the hill, took charge and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 4-1 mark and 2.92 ERA in 7 starts. The gifted Southies star pitched 49.1 innings, fanned 62 and held opposing teams to a .242 average.

For his outstanding mound performance Horn was named the SR Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

Providence Junior Pro League Report

PJPL Announces Outstanding Batter Award: West Seekonk left fielder Ken Debate put the wraps on a fine May by capturing the Providence Junior Pro League Batter of the Month honors today.

He put up a .289 batting average and .429 on-base percentage last month while racking up 14 home runs, 31 RBIs, 16 runs scored and 22 walks.

Woodlawn Starter May's Best Pitcher: Capping off a whirlwind month in which he went 5-0 with a 2.49 ERA, Quartz Hoertz was selected as May's Providence Junior Pro League Pitcher of the Month today. Reporters caught up with the elated Woodlawn starter as he left the clubhouse.

"I know it's difficult for pitchers -- when you have a bad start or two, people start wondering if you've lost it. Then you ride stretches like this one for all you can. You find it easier to come to the park every day because know you're contributing to the club, not just waiting for your turn in the rotation to make up for your last start."

Quartz Hoertz definitely contributed to the club. He had 6 starts, throwing 47 innings, striking out 27, and holding the opposition to a .244 average.
