October 2301 - BNN Weekly Report - October 17
OK, I might push a little ahead! Maybe at least to the draft.
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1623123150 BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 16 October 2301 News Vault 81, Abernathy Agree to Swap: Reports have surfaced that Vault 81 has agreed to send 24-year old 1B Jason Robinson to the Abernathy Adamantium in exchange for 24-year old LF Bloatfly Williams and 22-year old minor league LHP Don Sanctuary. "It's a done deal," said one executive speaking on the condition of anonymity. "I'm surprised word got around so quickly. We just signed off on this an hour ago." The deal apparently is awaiting physicals before an official announcement is made by either team. Lifetime Robinson has hit for a .252 average and totaled 403 hits, 104 home runs and 317 RBIs. Over his career Williams is batting .320 with 97 doubles, 24 triples, 4 home runs, 139 RBIs and scored 262 runs in 417 games. North Charles Association Announces Corvega Top Defender Award Winners: Great glovemen can range far and wide to make a backhand stop or an over-the-shoulder catch -- and the best usually make it look easy. Today the winners of the North Charles Association Corvega Top Defender Award for 2301 were announced. These awards for defensive excellence go to: Pitcher Lannie Tykeson (Easy Town Assaultrons) Catcher Mike Swift (Nordhagen Beach Party Boys) First Baseman Antonio Toeclaw (Salem Witch Hats) Second Baseman Danny Suarez (Finch Farm Four Leafs) Third Baseman Dog Prairie (Easy Town Assaultrons) Shortstop Tib Shorthop (Finch Farm Four Leafs) Left Fielder Bloatfly Williams (Abernathy Adamantium) Center Fielder Millioncap Go (The Slog Ghouls) Right Fielder Gene Leftswipe (Concord Radstags) SCA Corvega Top Defender Award Winners Named: What does it take to win a Corvega Top Defender Award? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the South Charles Association consists of: Pitcher Peak Sizeman (FHE Yao Guai) Catcher Biddy Swenson (Roxbury Rad Sox) First Baseman Barker Cocoa (University Point Deathclaws) Second Baseman Jumper Hayes (Goodneighbor Hancocks) Third Baseman Justin Daros (Atom Cats) Shortstop Hopper Hayes (Egret Ninjas) Left Fielder Kory Richardson (University Point Deathclaws) Center Fielder Earthbound Bussey (Atom Cats) Right Fielder Baywatch Fischler (Quincy Gunners) Mannequin Wins Award for NCA Dominance: The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys got more than they expected out of Tom Mannequin in 2301. At the age of 35, there were questions about whether or not Mannequin could still compete at a high level, but those questions were answered emphatically as he has won the North Charles Association Fallon's Reliever Award. On the season, the Methuen, Massachusetts native recorded 35 saves in 51 relief appearances and threw 57.1 innings. He recorded 56 strikeouts and 10 walks, while posting an opponent's batting average of .197. He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Freedom Williams of the Concord Radstags finished second in voting, while Aaron Geneva of the Easy Town Assaultrons finished third. He certainly did a good job of impacting his team's outcomes this season, as he has been named the winner of the 2301 Fallon's Reliever Award for the South Charles Association. "There's no better feeling than running in from the bullpen with the game on the line and your heart pumping," Scorcher said. On the season, the Boxborough, Massachusetts native had 29 saves in 44 relief appearances, 36 strikeouts in 50 innings and a record of 4 wins and 5 losses to go with his 0.90 ERA. He received 21 first place votes out of a possible 24. Josh Samm of the Diamond City Swatters finished second in voting with 3 first place votes, while Jonathan Drumlin of the FHE Yao Guai finished third. He was overjoyed to see the name "Falcone" on the lineup card, too. Now the 22-year-old Fort Hagen right fielder has capped off his debut season by winning the coveted North Charles Association Red Rocket Rookie Award. Falcone won the award by hitting .314 and collecting 101 hits, 2 home runs, 60 RBIs and 35 walks, along with 44 runs scored and a .384 on-base percentage. He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Whip Lashley of the County Crossing Bloodbugs finished second in voting, while Jason Bourque of the Sunshine Tidings Chemists finished third. The University Point starter had everything working for him as he breezed to a 20-6 record. During the season Beachball chalked up 28 starts and a 3.21 ERA in 207.1 innings, surrendering 148 hits with 122 strikeouts and 89 walks. Other clubs hit .199 against him. He ended up tied with Duncan MacCready with 96 total votes and 96 first place votes. He was somewhat of a dark horse next to some of the more flashy managers up for the award. Getman, who prefers that everyone call him "Cap" or "Skip," tries to shy away from the limelight in a media-driven world. "It's really unfair to the guys that busted their humps all year long to put all the focus on me now. They showed up early, put in extra time in the cage, worked on their fielding, consulted with our coaching staff and really made 2301 a highlight in my career." In fairness to this year's Manager of the Year, Getman certainly played an important part in the Party Boys success as he guided them to a first place finish in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League and a 79-29 record. #1 Skipper in SCA: Stands of Atom: The Atom Cats had an outstanding season, much of it due to their astute and gifted skipper. For his managerial excellence, Paul Stands reaped the reward of being voted South Charles Association Manager of the Year. "A manager is only as good as the players he's managing," Stands told reporters. "If I didn't have the talent to work with, making all the right moves wouldn't have helped a bit." Under Stands the Cats finished second in the South Charles Association Minutemen League with a record of 64-44. 2301 NCA Vim! Pitcher Award Announced: The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys have a rising superstar or maybe even a budding Hall-of-Famer in the making. It's Beachboy Nut, this year's North Charles Association Vim! Pitcher Award selection. This blossoming hurler wowed fans, peers and sportswriters with a fabulous performance. Nut compiled a 17-3 record in 27 starts, tallied 223 strikeouts in 217 innings and recorded a 2.16 ERA. Other clubs managed only a .205 batting average against him. He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Tommy Beach of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys finished second in voting, while Derek Green of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud finished third. Pitcher Award trophy went to Scruffy Taguchi, the ace of the Atom pitching staff. He dominated all season, finishing with 13 wins and 7 losses and a 3.23 ERA. In 26 starts he worked a total of 195.1 innings, striking out 162, while walking 66. Other clubs managed to hit only .223 against him. He received 9 first place votes out of a possible 24. Joey Dimes of the Quincy Gunners finished second in voting with 8 first place votes, while Phlip Wallace of the University Point Deathclaws finished third with 4 first place votes. Hard work, long hours and a tireless resolve paid off for him today in the form of the North Charles Association Nuka-Hitter Award. Pawlak hit for a .346 average while collecting 147 hits, 28 doubles, 5 triples, 22 home runs, 70 RBIs and scoring 90 times. He received 13 first place votes out of a possible 24. For his spectacular campaign, the Vault 81 Dwellers star has been named the 2301 South Charles Association Nuka-Hitter Award recipient. "To be considered amongst the best in the league is overwhelming," said the center fielder. On the season he compiled a .348 batting average to go with a .441 on-base percentage. The native of Provincetown, Massachusetts also added 19 doubles, 6 triples, 29 home runs, 84 RBIs and 98 runs scored. He received 24 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Good luck with what's hopefully an upgrade. Don't try to take on too much at once, though I feel like maybe I'm not the best one to give this advice. I accidentally applied for a promotion (it's more like I don't know how to say no) and today I heard I got it. Technically it's a lateral move, but it's much more prestigious even if my benefits are the same. |

Yeah, my days would be simplified and there would be few times other than the early learning curve where I would have to do anything before 8 AM or after 4 PM. The difference would be that my contract would change from a 9-month contract to a 12-month contract, so there would be no options for summers off anymore. |

BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 18 October 2301 Buses Get Makeover CBO artist Erin Reische has revealed the addition to CBO team buses for the 2302 season. Instead of having plain frames, the graphical artist team for the CBO will paint logos and team names on all 24 buses across the league. Artist rendering of the new-look team buses: https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1650121170 Since the Corvega plant has been open, they have made it a priority to keep the league moving. Each team has employed a bus driver and mechanic to guarantee that teams can make all games. Commissioner Nate Howard has talked about the possibility of expanding the league's schedule and removing the "river border" when scheduling season games. At this point, all CBO teams play 108 games with 60 of those games against their own league (6 home and 6 away per team) and the other 48 games (4 home and 4 away per team) coming against the other league in their association. Howard has begun talks to see if teams could add 48 additional games with a 2 home-2 away structure versus the other association. There is also a possibility that those numbers could be fewer with possibilities of playing as few as 12 total games against the other association where there would be a 4-year rotation versus the association and different home and away structures each year. For example, the Abernathy Adamantium would play their regular 108-game schedule. They would also play the following sort of rotation over a four-year period: Year 1 vs Minutemen League 6 home games total vs Atom, Goodneighbor, and Jamaica Plain 6 road games total vs Quincy, University Point, and Warwick Year 2 vs Railroad League 6 home games total vs Diamond City, Egret, and FHE 6 road games total vs Oberland, Roxbury, and Vault 81 Year 3 vs Minutemen League 6 road games total vs Atom, Goodneighbor, and Jamaica Plain 6 home games total vs Quincy, University Point, and Warwick Year 4 vs Railroad League 6 road games total vs Diamond City, Egret, and FHE 6 home games total vs Oberland, Roxbury, and Vault 81 According to Howard, schedule change considerations are not planned for the 2302 season. "We're still building our pool of players," Howard said. "With more games, there will be more injuries, so we need to ensure that teams can field a competitive team before we start adding even more games on the schedule." Asked if the increase in numbers of games would move the caps salary above the current numbers, he stated that it would. Currently, five players per CBO team are paid 10,800 caps per season or 100 caps per game for the regular season; five more players are paid 8100 caps or 75 caps per game; and the remaining 15 players are paid 6480 caps per season or 60 caps per game. |
Love the bus. I'm a nerd about many things, and transport/infrastructure is one of them and probably the most nerdy/least socially acceptable

Settlements Today

Today in the CBO Settlements Today by Nat Wright-Kowalski 20 October 2301 - Walden Pond It is a lazy Sunday morning stroll around the pond. I stand outside the Thoreau House, in which I rented for the evening for a hefty 500 caps. It is the tourist attraction of the Walden Pond settlement. Well, it was; now baseball brings in additional jobs and funds. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1650209276 The light fog, or "strange smoke" as the locals call it, serves as a blanket over the serene part of the Commonwealth. We can feel the history of this natural place, yet the hope of a future where we can return to places like this one without the fear of the brutal wastes. I am standing looking down on the pond. While it is serene, there are several water pumps in the lake. It was once another of the many irradiated no-go zones of the Commonwealth, but serious efforts to clean it up to make the water filters provide some of the purest water in the area. Just to my west stands the Gift Shop. It is not full of merchandise, but the settlers here have been producing some merchandise to match it. While the original transcendentalist texts of the tourist attraction are not here, the Boston Public Library did provide me with some reading materials before coming. For now, the only real history indicator at Walden Pond is General Atomics still functioning robotic audio tour boxes. For the complete history, keep reading. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1650209280 “Hello, and welcome to Walden Pond,” the box beeps. “You are now standing in front of the cabin inhabited by transcendentalist writer and philosopher Henry David Thoreau starting in the summer of 1845. For two years, two months, and two days, Thoreau lived in this cabin, hoping to gain a more objective understanding of society. This experiment was influenced by Thoreau's interest in transcendentalist philosophy, which believed that people were at their best when truly self-reliant. By living off the land with few material possessions, Thoreau proved it skeptical to think that any outward improvement of life could bring inner peace and contentment.” It then goes on to advertise merchandise in the Gift Shop and gives General Atomics credit for the tour. For an additional fee, Buddy Goodwater at the Gift Shop will give you a walking tour with more information about Thoreau’s time at the cabin. The Thoreau House as they call it is a humble abode. The small cabin has a comfortable bed, a table with a chair, a desk with another chair, and a fireplace. Right now, the Goodwaters are preparing breakfast as part of the experience: scrambled mirelurk eggs, roasted tatos, and bourbon-baked cram. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1650209276 I look out west in the general direction of the somewhat larger Sunshine Tidings settlement lies several miles away. In that direction, I see where the Walden Pond settlers have made their tiny town. There are several rows of wooden and metal shacks as well as the chain-linked field for the Walden Pond poets. I head out to The Field of Walden where the coaching staff—manager Lou Churchman, PC Kevin Hollow, and HC Money Caceres—are doing some general maintenance. They are happy to see me out there and show where they have improved the stadium. They explain that they love the peacefulness of the area where the baseball players can concentrate only on the game. While no players are at the field this early in the morning, Churchman tells me that several players are spending their offseason at Walden Pond to get in extra work. He tells me that all of the youngest players stayed, except for one of the rookies (not named) that wanted to return to work on his parents’ homestead for the winter. A quick check tells me that player is SP Joe Broomstick, a 4th-round pick of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, the Poets’ parent team. Otherwise, all of the other rookies stayed. Churchman points out players like RF Snake Walton and SP Cory Clone, the Boy’s 8th and 9th-round picks, who were making huge strides already. After my tour of the baseball facility, I head back to Thoreau House where my steaming breakfast is waiting for me on the table. I dig in with a glass of ice-cold brahmin milk from Sunshine Tidings Co-op and write down my notes. I think what it must have been like in the 1840s when Thoreau sat down here to compose his Walden; or, Life in the Woods book. The Boston Public Library had a copy intact, and I read it before coming, trying to see the pond through Thoreau’s eyes. I check the notes that I scribbled when visiting the library. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1650209276 Some of the lines of poetry I try to live in this experience. Of course, it is all relative. Thoreau was in solitude. I am in a tourist attraction of a settlement of people living their lives. Slowly, quietly, but populated. "I love to be alone. I never found the companion that was so companionable as solitude." "I should not talk so much about myself if there were anybody else whom I knew as well." "Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify." "I have a room all to myself; it is Nature." "I learned this, at least, by my experiment; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." “An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day." I think of my apartment in Hangman’s Alley in the new portion of Diamond City. It is urban and loud and bright. There are people available to fulfill my every need. Just like the hot (and delicious!) breakfast that I am consuming, my needs are met without self-sufficiency. Life in the wastes is sometimes awful and almost always dangerous. Yet, as a person who grew up in Diamond City, I realize that my life has been set for me. Out here, for the people of Walden Pond, they are making their own life. Like Thoreau writes, "All nature is your congratulation, and you have cause momentarily to bless yourself." I believe that to be true at this moment. In two hours, I must check out and return to Diamond City where I will publish this article for BNN. I will rejoin the steel and concrete of my reality, but I will forever remember this experience, this closeness to nature. And I will return. Settlements Today! Great as always. Was always one of my favorite parts of the series. Oddly the statement about how much the cost of renting the cabin cost got me thinking, I wonder if anyone's crafted some good economic theories for the Fallout Universe. I mean, like, what's the average weekly wage for a wastelander (though I guess that'd only apply in settlements). I say this, because as we've previously discussed, Elder Scrolls is actually pretty well thought out both in-game and out of universe, and if 1 cap = 1 septim, 500 would be almost exactly the average laborer's one week's of wages.

As far as the caps are concerned, I have no idea if they are accurate or consistent. I suppose there has been or could be a deep dive at some point to determine if rates are consistent among vendors and seem to have a caps scale. I am mostly avoiding financials in this dynasty, but I notice I have some trades I do not want to happen that could be avoided if I prevented NWL/VimL teams from being able to afford CBO-level contracts. |
It’s a shame there’s no housing purchases you can make. That’s how I sorted out my finances in my TES league

In the end, I like OrangeP47's idea of approximately 500 caps per week for labor, and I'll just go with that as though one cap = approx. one septim = approx. $1 USD. |

So I do have the rail line open already. A news story will come with some additional public transportation information. Let's see if an underground crew can work more on clearing out more rubble, but 2303 will launch Outpost Zimonja to Egret Marina. Maybe later it will expand out beyond that, but I don't plan to move any part of the league beyond the Fallout map. When I look at the real Boston-area scale to game scale, I have no idea how my league would actually be possible for walking from place to place. Without some sort of transportation system, nothing here would be possible. I know, I know. It's a game and it has giant, mutated creatures and suspending disbelief. And, of course, magical transportation is also a possibility, but I will leave that sort of magic to the main characters in game (and, well, the Institute, too). I suppose I could solve all problems with fast travel and teleportation. I mean, both DO exist. Alas, I will not! Energy limitations or some other SCIENCE! |

With the OOTP 23 release, I simmed ahead in a test save despite the absolute ****ton of work I need to complete. I am about to go dark until everything is complete, but for now, before I do, here are some "things." The Rad Sox became overpowered in this one sim, at one point making NINE straight Sole Survivor Series and 10 of 11. Amazingly, they lost their last six appearances. Another team that began to dominate, though not as much in their association, was County Crossing. Over the 14 years I simmed, they made four appearances in the SSS, winning all of them (3 vs Roxbury and 1 over University Point). Other champions in the 14-year span include Nordhagen Beach (back-to-back over Atom in 2301 and 2302 and again in 2310), Concord (twice), Starlight (twice), and Egret. Lannie Tykeson, now with Roxbury as a 38-year-old is the Ohtani of the league. As a hitter, he has a career .332 average, 323 career HR, and 1283 RBI. As a pitcher, he has gone 236-98 with a 3.63 ERA, winning 10 or more games in 15-straight seasons. He won 20 or more three times. Barker Cocoa became the all-time greatest hitter, with a .358 career batting average (best) and 468 homers (best). He is also #1 in career stats in OBP, SLG, OBPS, R, TB, BB, and WAR (133.65), 40 points higher than the second-best all-time (Earthbound Bussey). 2301 County Crossing rookie Whip Lashley has become the all-time wins leader at pitcher. He also won 10 or more games in 15 straight seasons with his career-low (11) coming in the final season simmed, 2315. Overall, he is 254-91 with a 3.22 ERA. He also has the best all-time WAR with 96.5. None of this is official, but interesting to look at for what happens next. |
I don’t know if you’ve had a chance to look under the hood of 23 yet for your league but they made a pretty drastic change to the syntax of the name file this year.
Gonna set me back a bit for my world. |
