Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 5 July 2296 - Van Benschoten Has a Dimmed Light Bulb Vault 81 Dwellers left fielder Chris Van Benschoten looks like he will be able to recover from his injury we reported last week, but Vault 81 owner and top physician Dr. Jacob Forsythe has noted an unfortunate result of the injury. Apparently, Van Benschoten is now stuck on stupid. "We noticed some cognitive differences," Forsythe said. "We asked him some basic questions, but he does not appear to be able to process more complicated functions" Forsythe explained that Van Benschoten showed similarities in his abilities to execute physical functions like feeding himself, putting on his clothes, and even throwing items. However, when asked to explain a complicated process like rebuilding a structure or repeating a phrase. "He seems to be fine for his physical abilities and behavior, but the boy may have to go into manual labor after he's finished with baseball," Forsythe said. The Institute has made progress in understanding the functioning of the brain and using pre-War technology to download and upload memories, like the synth Nick Valentine with the pre-War Nick Valentine memories. There is no news if Van Benschoten is eligible to participate in a brain study or can be treated. |

Today in the CBO Settlements Today by Nat Wright-Kowalski 7 July 2296 - Oberland Station Each Tuesday for the upcoming weeks through the playoffs, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners. In our thirteenth installment of "Settlement Today," I visited the compound with the most commuting settlers, Oberland Station. Before a guy named Nate came along, Oberland Station was quite simplistic in its build: "Oberland Station has one permanent building, which is a railway check station at the center. The settlement's small size and confined space make it ideal for a vertical settlement. It has a small farm area with a few tato plants, cooking station, and two settlers when it is first discovered. Oberland is often attacked by raiders and super mutants in early stages." https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593092072 Oberland Station - 2287. The former train station served as housing with a small farm. The wooded area has made expanding the location difficult. When Nate came along at first, there were two sisters, Tealeaf and Twilight, who had a problem with super mutants passing through and wreaking havoc on their land. They would hide in a small cave east of the settlement and would often sleep there before they received more protection. Nate Howard helped them by slaughtering the super mutant raid party and then built a few turret stands to keep other super mutants and raiders at bay. Another part of that protection came from a man named August Jones who started calling himself August Oberland once he moved there. The one-time Minutemen soldier protected the sisters and became the patriarch of the land. He started building walled defenses and a small wood cabin for any other settlers joining the settlement. In time, the settlement became a small compound that kept the bad guys out. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593092167 Oberland 2296 - Though there is still not a lot of places to go in expanding this settlement, building up has worked. Today Oberland Station settlers commute for a lot of their work, including the baseball team named for this settlement. Many of the settlers work in nearby Beantown Brewery, while others cross the river north of Beantown Brewery and Oberland Station to Graygarden, mostly for maintenance and repair work. Also, the Graygarden Park baseball stadium is another employer of Oberland Station residents. There were considerations to build the stadium in the parking lot of Beantown Brewery, but Nate Howard worked out a deal for the Bobrov brothers to expand their supply out east, and Graygarden was also a cap-heavy settlement without the robots there needing the caps for much other than purchasing fuel and supplies. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593092072 [I]Beantown Brewery - Just north along the train tracks from Oberland Station. The Bobrov brothers own and operate the facility and most of its employees live at Oberland Station. Owner - August Oberland August Oberland seems like one of those nameless settlers of the Commonwealth. However, he has a storied history that helped him make his way to Oberland Station and turn the settlement from nothing to something. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593092093 Around the time some Minutemen abandoned their cause and experienced the Quincy Massacre in 2287, the Minutemen soldier known as August Jones was on a diplomatic mission in Nahant trying to help a group of settlers at the Nahant Oceanological Society. Two problems presented itself at the time: lots of mirelurks around and no one capable of hacking the robots running the Society. Eventually, Jones moved the settlers to a wharf house as the best and most-protected area. Once he started to make his way back, he and his group picked up a distress signal on Radio Freedom that the Minutemen were slaughtered in Quincy and that any personnel out there should scatter. August decided to leave his group and make his way west. After encountering hordes of raiders, mutants, and ghouls throughout the area north of the Charles River, he came across Graygarden in late 2287. One of the robot workers there told him that a man had cleared out the mutants in the area, so August crossed the river and found Oberland Station where Tealeaf and Twilight were having problems fixing a couple of malfunctioning turrets. Though they were wary of August, he offered to help fix them, later asked for a cooked meal, and then never left. Now he still acts as the mayor of Oberland Station, running the compound as he feels best. There is a Minutemen post at the settlement, as well as basic needs for supplies, food, and medical purposes. If there are any bigger needs, like the need to hospitalize a settler, then they can always make their way south to Vault 81 for more treatment from Dr. Jacob Forsythe and his excellent medical clinic there. The Farm Run Entirely by Robots https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593092093 Graygarden 2296 - No people are allowed to run the farms, but there are a few people who run trades, security, and maintenance. Supervisor White is the de facto mayor there, though there is no official local government, thus most of the people choosing to live at Oberland Station. Check out this awesome settlement build here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOOXIecDp6g According to the intranet, "Staffed by a fleet of Mister Handy robots, and led by the three color-coded supervisors by the name of White, Brown, and Greene, Graygarden is a bountiful greenhouse for the Commonwealth. It was founded before the Great War by Dr. Edward Gray." The farm here is the main supplier to Oberland Station, grows supplies needed for Beantown Brewery, and supplies settled areas in eastbound Cambridge and westbound Fort Hagen. Because Oberland Station runs the caravans and trading of the crops, the human settlement of Oberland Station keeps most of the profits except for what is needed for maintenance and farming supplies for the robots. August Oberland also handles payrolls for those living in Graygarden. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 7 July 2296 - Diamond City's Lacy Meets Mole Mommy Diamond City starting right fielder Wayne Lacy made a wrong turn while near the Charles River today, and that turn turned out to be a dangerous turn of events. Lacy came face to face with a molerat brood mother that did not like him close to her babies. The mother pounced upon Lacy and sank its enormous teeth into his leg before passers-by were able to slay the molerat and haul Lacy to a clinic. Lacy only suffered a bite wound to his leg, with some loss of blood. He is expected to recover but will need to be monitored for infection. In a statement released by Swatters owner Moe Cronin, he described the injury as "medium, but the stimpacks should do the trick." It appears that Lacy will be out at least a week as the 21-21 Swatters travel to Vault 81 this week. Lacy leads the fourth-place Swatters in batting average and he is tied with Jeffrey Curatolo for the team lead in home runs with 10. 8 July 2296 - Weathers Petitions for Rule Change County Crossing Bloodbugs owner Doc Weathers says he will petition the Commonwealth Baseball Organization to expand its team structure. He has suggested that teams employ a full coaching staff to improve the play of the league. "For the future of the league and the quality of baseball," Weather stated, "I believe we need to make our baseball league like the pre-War league. Beyond the pool of players, we also need a pool of coaches." Currently starting pitcher Front Porch Potter acts as the team's player-coach. He often holds what he calls "Front Porch Sessions" where he invites a few players to his front porch for a small meeting. Weathers does Weathers mentioned that he read an old book that he picked up recently from Boston Library while on a business trip to Diamond City. "It was a baseball book that featured the Boston baseball team from before the war," Weathers said. "They had a manager, Dusty Wilder, who talked a lot about how his staff was going to help bring a championship to Boston. There was a pitching coach, a hitting coach, bench coaches, bullpen coaches, scouts. I like it all and want it." Four teams, including two in the Brotherhood League, do have a manager but none of them have a full coaching staff. Those teams and managers are: East Boston Prep - Graham Route, The Slog - Mack O'Shea, Lexington - Sprole Races, and Jamaica Plain - Squirt Becker. Five teams have their owners or their children acting either as manager or game-day captain: Finch Farm - Jake Finch, Concord - Sturges Freeman, Atom - Zeke Cat, Quincy - Little Larry, and Diamond City - Moe Cronin. For the other 13 teams, they each have a player who acts as player-coach, including Potter for County Crossing. "Imagine it. Instead of depending on the front office to tell us who is good and should be playing, we do it ourselves. Yes, we can still use the league's scouting report, but we can compare it to our own report and then make the best decision for ourselves." The Bloodbugs have apparently recruited a player from an old traveling team. We only know his name is Biff Future, but he was not available at the time of this report. We did not get a direct response from Nate Howard, but the CBO office released a statement that there would be a number of changes to the league to go along with the coming addition of a minor league. We are still waiting to hear where all 24 teams will play, assuming the league structure remains the same. |
I hit reply too early. More stories coming.

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 7 July 2296 - The Slog Ghouls Ship Monticello to Fairline Hill Estates It came down to the last hour of a self-imposed trade deadline, but the The Slog Ghouls and Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai finally came to an agreement on a trade that had been rumored for weeks. The trade sends The Slog's 34-year-old RHP Sage Monticello to Fairline Hill Estates in a swap for 24-year-old LF Purple Welch. Both teams seemed relieved that the deal had been completed with one stating, "We had to set a deadline to get it done." The players are expected to report to their new teams by tomorrow. Up to now Monticello has recorded a record of 3-6. In 11 starts he has fanned 32 batters in 62.1 innings with a 6.64 ERA. Welch appeared in five games for the Yao Guai. In those five games he was mostly used as a defensive replacement. He has two at bats with two strikeouts on the year. His last at bat came May 1. 7 July 2296 - Draft Pool Revealed BL News: Draft Pool Revealed: With the 2296 rookie draft only 90 days away, teams across Brotherhood League are preparing their scouting missions, trying to assess their long-term needs and hoping that they land the prospect that will positively define their club for the next few years. Most of the young men in the draft pool will have gone as far as they can go, but then, a few will surprise and pan out as quality -- or even great -- professional ballplayers. For a complete listing of those entered in the draft, consult the newly created draft section on the Transactions page, which will be available for 90 days prior to draft day. The early favorites to be high picks are the following: 1. Goody Cloyse, 19 year-old RF 2. Biter Trout, 19 year-old C 3. Lucky Oldsun, 19 year-old 3B 4. Ben Pawlak, 19 year-old CF 5. Pop Murphy, 18 year-old CF 6. Witcher Craft, 18 year-old CF 7. Beachboy Nut, 18 year-old LHP 8. Aesed Hayjen, 18 year-old CF 9. Tenthree Leader, 19 year-old C 10. Maltese MacGuffin, 19 year-old CF 8 July 2296 - Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers Ship Parkman to Atom The Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers have finalized a deal with the Atom Cats for the services of 24-year-old LHP Cocked Hat Harris and 21-year-old C Jeremy "Boss" Junkpile. In exchange, the Cats will receive 30-year-old RHP Bob Parkman. Parkman has taken the mound for 19 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-4 record with a 6.59 ERA. The Atom reliever has limited opposing batters to a .291 batting average. 9 July 2296 - Nordhagen Beach Trades Human and Haircutter for Quincy's Combs After a week of negotiations, the Party Boys and Gunners have come to terms on a deal that will send 27-year-old RHP Ray Human and 23-year-old 2B Danny Haircutter to Quincy for 19-year-old 2B Ryan Combs. This year Human has a 4-3 record with a 5.60 ERA. Haircutter has yet to play this season. Combs was 4 of 15 for a .267 average with two runs and one RBI in limited action with the Gunners. ---------- Wow! I am surprised the Party Boys dealt Human. This was not a random event, so it was something that the AI decided to do. They are certainly active in this trading business! |
Once again, not convinced by the Boys' trading policy. Maybe if the mooted changes involving the installation of managers and specialist coaches come about, the club will have someone in charge who will make more positive decisions.

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 9 July 2296 - Assaultrons End Levy's Streak Mushy Levy of the County Crossing Bloodbugs came up empty at the plate today and went hitless in 3 at-bats for the first time in 20 games. Making matters even worse for the right fielder, County Crossing dropped the game to the East Boston Prep Assaultrons 3-2. "It was not a good day today," Levy told the press in postgame comments. "We lost the game and the streak is over." Thus far this season Levy is hitting .313 with 11 home runs, 43 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 176 at-bats and has played in 42 games. 9 July 2296 - Adamantium, Woods Stonewall Concord, 8-0 Jason Woods was dynamite at Nuka Park today, blowing away the Concord Radstags in a shutout victory. The Abernathy Adamantium starter had everything working as he held the Radstags to 4 hits in the 8-0 win. "He was pure nasty out there today," said Concord owner Sturges Freeman. "I don't think any team in the league would've had a chance against what he was bringing." Woods finished the game with 7 strikeouts and no walks. This season Woods has compiled a 7-4 mark with a 5.50 ERA. 9 July 2296 - Super Swinger -- Tarberry Slams 5 Hits Ed Tarberry led Atom to a 14-5 victory today over the University Point Deathclaws. Boston HS. The Goodneighbor Hancocks held him hitless in 4 at-bats and also sent the Treasures down to defeat, 9-4. Later, Seaweed acknowledged to BNN reporters that the hit streak meant something to him. "It was special," he said, "but I think other people make a bigger deal out of it than I do, or the players do. It was what we're all supposed to do; go out and hit the ball and try to score runs. It was a cool deal, but it's over now. Let's try to start a new one." In this current campaign Seaweed is hitting at a .375 clip with 14 home runs and 40 RBIs. 9 July 2296 - Party Boys Deal Ghouls 8-7 Loss The inspired effort of The Slog second baseman C.T. Woodard was not enough to prevent a loss, 8-7, to the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. Woodard went 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. The winning pitcher was Julian Shed. His record is now 2-3. The left-hander went 7.1 innings, allowing 6 runs on 14 hits for the Party Boys. Sia Abber was called on to finish, recording his 1st save. Nordhagen Beach used a well-timed hit by Tommy Talkington to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Party Boys ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important. "I like the grit of this ballclub," Talkington said. The Ghouls, now 20-23, have lost 4 in a row. 9 July 2296 - Consecutive-Game Hit Streak Continues for Perez Oberland lost to the Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai 4-3 at Graygarden Park today, but B.J. Perez kept his consecutive-game hitting streak alive with 3 hits. The T-51s center fielder has now delivered hits in 20 straight games. "B.J. has a nice streak going, but the scoreboard tells the important story today," Oberland player-coach Jonathan Abern told reporters after the game. "We lost, no matter how many hits anyone had." B.J. Perez singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Bow Rome in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, grounded out in the 8th and singled in the 10th. For the year Perez is batting .458 with 5 home runs, 40 RBIs and 51 runs scored. 10 July 2296 - Pettinato's Hit Streak Soars to 30 Games Quincy lost to the Warwick Mirelurks 4-0 at The Homestead today, but Ben Pettinato kept his consecutive-game hitting streak alive with 1 hit. The Gunners third baseman has now delivered hits in 30 straight games. "Ben has a nice streak going, but the scoreboard tells the important story today," Quincy manager Little Larry told reporters after the game. "We lost, no matter how many hits anyone had." Ben Pettinato singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, flied out in the 6th and struck out in the 8th. This season Pettinato is swinging the bat at a .395 pace. He has hit 6 home runs and scored 45 times, while driving in 47. His on-base percentage is .444 and he has played in 44 games. 10 July 2296 - Concord Trades Arthur and Carr for Lexington's Warren Concord and Lexington have agreed to a trade today. 31-year-old RHP Prince Arthur and 16-year-old C Jim Carr will go to the Synths. In 19.2 innings, Arthur has chalked up 14 strikeouts while posting a 1-0 record and a 2.75 ERA. Carr and Warren have seen limited action. 10 July 2296 - Ghouls Score Late to Upend Party Boys, 5-3 The Slog and Nordhagen Beach duked it out and the Ghouls came out victorious. Despite a great performance by Nordhagen Beach right fielder C3-88 Puppetboy, the The Slog Ghouls defeated the Party Boys by the score of 5-3 at Tarberry Field Forever. Puppetboy went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI. David Tower nailed down his 1st save. In the bottom of the eighth, The Slog third baseman Stoop Bugwing hit a two-strike slider to left field for a run-scoring single. It put the Ghouls up, 4-3. "I just tried to make good contact," said Bugwing. The Slog, at 21-23, sits in 4th place in the Brotherhood League. 11 July 2296 - Concord-Finch Farm Trade: Farmman for Hardy The Radstags and Four Leafs pulled the trigger on a deal that will see 32-year-old RHP Chris Farmman head to Finch Farm in exchange for 19-year-old LHP Nick Hardy. A source close to Concord officials said, "The teams spent long hours coming to the agreement and in the end, both agreed the deal should help both clubs." During this season Farmman has 19 relief appearances and registered 5 saves. Batters are hitting him at a .325 rate and his season record is 1-3 with a 6.27 ERA. He has logged 18.2 innings and struck out 14. 11 July 2296 - Ghouls Take Down Party Boys, 8-7 Behind a fine performance from Oscar Armor, the The Slog Ghouls knocked off the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 8-7. Armor was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Ghouls. The Slog reliever Ryan Radaway was the winner. His record is now 3-0. Sia Abber took the loss. With the win, The Slog goes to 22-23, while the Party Boys fall to 17-28. The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Armor hit a fastball from Sia Abber for a solo home run. The Ghouls, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win. "It's great when the crowd is energized," Armor said. 11 July 2296 - Party Boys Halt Greenzone's Hit Streak All good things must come to an end -- and so it was today for Po Greenzone as he saw his 22-game hitting streak end. He went hitless in 2 at-bats at the hands of the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. It wasn't all bad for the 16-year-old left fielder and the The Slog Ghouls however, as they defeated Nordhagen Beach 8-7 at Tarberry Field Forever. When asked about his hitting streak, a smiling Greenzone laughed and said, "I guess my luck ran out today." This year Greenzone is batting .322 with 48 hits, 16 home runs, 44 RBIs, 14 walks, .388 OBP and has scored 37 runs. 11 July 2296 - Nordhagen Beach Party Boys Ship Petrified to Fort Hagen Officials for Nordhagen Beach confirmed that they have traded 26-year-old LF Noel Petrified to the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. In return, the Party Boys will receive 25-year-old RHP Chet Arthur and 18-year-old LHP Josh Copley. Petrified and Copley have yet to play in the 2296 season. In five appearances, Arthur has allowed nine earned runs on 11 hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in 9.0 innings for a 9.00 ERA. 11 July 2296 - Kimbrough on Fire, 5-for-6 Against Jamaica Plain Fans at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS got to see not only a home-team victory today, but also one of the most impressive feats of hitting of the season. The Goodneighbor Hancocks outplayed the Jamaica Plain Treasures en route to a 18-9 win, but the standout was third baseman James Kimbrough. Kimbrough netted 5 hits in 6 at-bats and finished with a dynamite game line. "Hey, we tried everything we could think of to get him out," Treasures manager Squirt Becker said in his postgame comments. "We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the sink, too." James Kimbrough singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th. For the season Kimbrough is batting .340 with 69 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 50 times and batted in 17. 11 July 2296 - Hitting Streak Still Alive for Oldsink John Oldsink, starting pitcher/right fielder for the Goodneighbor Hancocks, ran his consecutive-game hitting streak to 20 games with 2 hits in his club's 18-9 victory today over the Jamaica Plain Treasures at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS today. "I don't really know why it's even happening," he said with a grin after the game. "So asking me how long I can keep it up is kind of irrelevant. It'll end when it ends." John Oldsink grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th and flied out in the 5th. To date this season Oldsink is 44 for 132 (.333) with nine doubles, three triples, 30 runs, and 13 RBI. When pitching, he is 8-6 with 15 starts and an ERA of 5.40 with 69 strikeouts in 100 innings. 11 July 2296 - Mirelurks End Pettinato's Streak Ben Pettinato came rolling into today's game against the Warwick Mirelurks with a 30-game hitting string, but he left it on the field at The Homestead. The 18-year-old Quincy Gunners third baseman went 0-for-4 against the Mirelurks as the Gunners fell, 8-3. "I swung at a couple pitches I probably shouldn't have and I didn't swing at a couple I probably should have," he said, grimacing. "But that's what makes a hit streak so impressive in the first place -- it only takes a couple mistakes to end it all." This season Pettinato has hit at a .387 clip with 47 RBIs, 6 home runs and 45 runs scored. |

After another lost series this weekend, the Party Boys can look forward to next year. This season, the Party Boys are 8-4 against County Crossing. If they played the Bloodbugs every series, they would be in first place. Unfortunately, against the other four teams, the Boys are 9-24. Other than a series win against The Slog in Week 2, the only other team the Party Boys have beaten in a series has been the Bloodbugs: 3 out of 4 chances. |

Hi, baseball fans of the Commonwealth. This is Travis Miles with "The Confidence Man Minute." This weekend's series was not the thrilling series we hoped it would be, as the visiting Starlight Lady Killers completed the sweep today, beating the home team Concord Radstags 6-1 this afternoon at Nuka Park. The big story is that the Lady Killers have moved themselves into first place in the Institute League, and now Abernathy needs a win tonight to remain a game behind. The Lady Killers are now 28-17, winning five straight now and nine of their last 10. Sunshine Tidings could have made a move up to the top with a good series, but instead they are going to be in a tie for third place with Lexington at 23-22. The Chemists now trail Starlight by five games and Abernathy by two and a half with 15 left to play on the season. For our standout performances of the weekend, let's start with Game 1. In that game, a 14-4 Starlight victory, Glenn Higinbotham went 4 for 6 with two doubles, a home run, three runs scored, and seven RBI. In the Lady Killers' 11-4 victory in Game 2, Willie Qesadena was 2 for 3 with two home runs, a walk, three runs scored, and five runs produced. Wild Cannon was Game 3's hero in the 6-1 victory today. He was 4 for 4 with three doubles, a home run, two runs scored, and two runs batted in. Next week, we at Diamond City Radio get first choice of where we will travel for the broadcast. Our choice depends on the rest of the results, but we know these Lady Killers are traveling to Abernathy, so that looks to be the battle for the division, at least for right now. We will make an official announcement on tomorrow morning's radio show, "On the Brahmin's Back." Tune in to find out which exciting series we will cover. Otherwise, hear me then. Good night! |

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593182061 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593182061 https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593182069 The Military Ammo Bag with Rex, George, and Anne R: It has been a wonderful night, and we have watched a wonderful but long game. It is nearly midnight here at Atomatoys Stadium. I am your sometimes humble, sometimes abrasive host, Rex Goodman. You are listening to WRVR's CBO post-game show, "The Military Ammo Bag with Rex, George, and Anne." In tonight's contest, we watched the Egret Scrappers outduel their opponents, 11-10. The Scrappers beat Shaw H-S, where the 'H' stands for "High" and the 'S' stands for "School," in two out of three competitions. We are a land minus high school, but the building structure still stands. In my personal opinion, the team name and nickname wreak of juvenile delinquency rather than a standard of athletic ferocity. That is just one man's aggressive opinion, so it may not be everyone's. G: Not to mention that a toy factory is the home stadium, too. You make a good point, Rex. R: Indeed, I do. G: I am going to jump right into it with the Outstanding Pitcher of the Week. It's not tonight's game, that's for sure. But we did have a pitcher's duel yesterday afternoon when the Knuckle Punchers won it 2-1. The best pitcher was the winner for Shaw, Brad Westing, who earned just his second win of the season versus his previous 11 losses. In yesterday's game, he pitched 8 and 1/3 innings and only allowed on earned run. He gave up seven hits, walked four, and struck out eight. A: That was a great game, too, George. For Egret being a much better team, they certainly had to scrap for wins. My award is the Bottoms Up Award, the backhanded award for a team losing in the game yet winning in the end. I'm also going to rest my tush on Game 2 since a single hit proved to be the game winner. Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third inning, Shaw High School's Damani Beebe stepped up to the plate with one out and Mike Thunderdome on second base after singling and stealing second base. On the first pitch to Beebe, he hit a deep fly ball over the left field wall for a two-run home run, which gave the Knuckle Punchers the lead 2-1, also the final score of the game. So, to Beebe, bottoms up! R: I do hope you slow down on your consumption of that wine, Anne. We must wake early tomorrow for travel. Speaking of travel, we will not know where we are headed until tomorrow morning when Diamond City Radio makes its announcement, but our correspondent seems to believe that they will be in the Institute League for a second straight week. Therefore, we will be either right back here in the Railroad League, or we will find a competitive game to cover in the Brotherhood or Minutemen Leagues. Regardless of where we go, we are sure to cover a game with two winning teams. Thank you, my contemporaries. The distinguished award for Most Outstanding Player of the Week goes to Starlight second baseman Wild Cannon. The wild child of the Wastelands had a most successful week with 8 hits in 15 at bats, three doubles, 4 runs, and 4 runs batted in. As far my award on "The Military Ammo Bag," I will award this weekend's most outstanding player, which, of course, would seem to be one of the Scrappers since they were the winning team. However, despite the series loss, our Bottoms Up Award winner is also our Most Outstanding Player, and he showed that by having a standout performance today. That man is Damani Beebe. For the weekend, he had 8 hits in 14 at bats. He doubled once, homered twice, scored two times, and drove in seven men, including himself twice. For this weekend, he was most certainly the Most Outstanding Player. I am going to conclude this week's show with my biographical song, you know, personality. Listen to Johnny Mercer and The Pied Pipers sing the song titled "Personality" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMTPsumjfTA |
July 2296 - News and Notes - July 12-13
https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1586093507
Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 12 July 2296 - Quincy-County Crossing: 4-Player Trade Quincy and County Crossing have agreed in principle to a trade. The Gunners will send 32-year-old RHP Jeff Rickashaw and 17-year-old 1B Mike McDonie to the Bloodbugs for 24-year-old LF Tyler Braggmann and 17-year-old RHP Rickey Schoolmaster. The deal is expected to be finalized shortly and the clubs will be introducing their new players to the press when the paperwork is complete. This year Rickashaw, Quincy's 6th-round pick, has compiled a 4-6 mark with a 5.90 ERA in 15 starts. In 26 games as a backup, 20th-round pick McDonie has hit .208 in 24 at bats with an RBI. Braggmann, the Bloodbugs' 23rd pick, saw limited action. in six games, he was 3 for 7 with a double and a run for a .429 average. Schoolmaster is involved in his second trade. Last month, he was traded from Egret to County Crossing. He has not played this season. 13 July 2296 - Finch Farm-Shaw HS Trade: Pterror for Fitzgerald The Four Leafs and Knuckle Punchers pulled the trigger on a deal that will see 26-year-old 1B Jared Pterror head to Shaw HS in exchange for 26-year-old RHP Jack Fitzgerald. A source close to Finch Farm officials said "The teams spent long hours coming to the agreement and in the end, both agreed the deal should help both clubs." Pterror, the 17th round pick of the Egret Scrappers, has not seen action in a regular-season game. He was released by the Scrappers at the start of the season and then signed with Finch Farm. In April, one day after officially becoming a member of the Four Leafs, Pterror sulked during the game when he did not play, and then got himself attacked by a ghoul, which further delayed his assimilation with the team. Since many teams read the Publick Occurrences report about the incidents of his attitude and the ghoul attack, no other teams were willing to take Pterror through trade or a non-trade agreement. Instead, Pterror sat on the bench for most of the games disinterested in the first-place Four Leafs' success. The Four Leafs get a player in Fitzgerald who has not been successful but can be a contributor in certain circumstances. In four appearances for the Knuckle Punchers, Fitzgerald pitched 6.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits with seven walks and three strikeouts for a 9.45 ERA. 13 July 2296 - Players of the Week BL - BL Names Top Player of the Week: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Brotherhood League, but last week Sean Samuels of the East Boston Prep Assaultrons reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Samuels rocked opposing pitching for a .714 average (10-for-14), 1 home run and 5 RBIs to come away with the award. So far this year Samuels is batting .401 with 6 home runs, 35 RBIs and 48 runs scored. IL - IL Awards Player of the Week Trophy: So far in his young career, Glenn Higinbotham has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Institute League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 19-year-old Starlight Lady Killers center fielder hit at a torrid .412 clip as he collected 7 hits in 17 at-bats, 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and 6 runs scored. Thus far this year Higinbotham has hit .389 with 4 home runs and 34 RBIs. ML - Assman Wins ML Honor: One of the league's most exciting young players, Bryan Assman of the Goodneighbor Hancocks earned himself Minutemen League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 18-year-old first baseman had a lofty .636 average (7-for-11), collecting 2 home runs, 10 RBIs and 5 runs scored. In this current campaign, Assman is hitting at a .362 clip with 8 home runs and 49 RBIs. RL - Great Week for Shaw HS's Damani Beebe: Damani Beebe burst onto the Railroad League stage in a big way last week. This promising 6th-round right fielder for Shaw HS garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy. The 17-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .571 (8-for-14) with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs last week. So far this season Beebe is batting .299 with 11 home runs, 36 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He has 59 hits in 197 at-bats, 12 walks and a .343 OBP. Beebe has played in 45 games. |
2296 Week 15 - The Week in Review

The biggest story is in the International League where the Starlight Lady Killers have surged into first place with five straight wins and 9 of their last 10. Second place Abernathy lost their weekend series against Concord and is 4-6 in their last 10 for a five-game swing in the division.
Based on DCR having first choice for broadcasting Week 16, they are going to take on the premier matchup of the weekend: Starlight (28-17, 1st place) at Abernathy (26-19, 2nd place, 2 GB). WRVR gets second choice. The only other game with teams facing off with winning records is a return to the Railroad League: Fairline Hill Estates (24-21, 3rd place, 7 GB) at Egret (26-19, 2nd place, 5 GB). This is a battle for second place to determine which team is in good position for the wildcard from the RL. Oberland (31-14) is entrenched in first place for now. |

Today in the CBO Settlements Today by Nat Wright-Kowalski 14 July 2296 - Finch Farm Each Tuesday for the upcoming weeks through the playoffs, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners. In our fourteenth installment of "Settlement Today," I visited the most successful farm in the northeast, Finch Farm. When Nate Howard first came across Finch Farm it was a small family farm way too close for comfort to the Forged, a raider group that took over Saugus Ironworks and used the forging pits there to convert newcomers by fire; a Gunners group in the nearby Hub City Auto Wreckers junkyard; and a super mutant stronghold at Revere Satellite Array. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593270735 Finch Farm 2288 - The simple times, the dangerous times. Abraham Finch's younger son, Jake, joined the Forge hoping to provide protection to his family. According to an intranet terminal, "After a disagreement, he left to join the Forged, a group of fire-worshiping fanatics established in the nearby Saugus Ironworks. When he left he took his father's Shishkebab [fire sword], a family heirloom, to give to the Forged. His hope was that it would help gain favor with their leader Slag and that they would raid settlements outside the Commonwealth." Nate answered Abraham's call to retrieve the sword from the Forged. Along with Heather Casden and Piper Wright, Nate stormed Saugus Ironworks and erased the Forge from existence. He also rescued Jake from them and sent Jake and Shishkebab back to Finch Farm. From there, Nate also cleared out the Gunners and super mutants, making Finch Farm a safe settlement for growing and moving crops. By 2290, the settlement had taken hold, and residents had built onto the damaged overpass structure to be a safe spot to live. With the help of a lot of robot labor, the settlers were able to move structures onto the overpass to give them the protection they needed from up above. Sentinels still man the upper area in case any groups with bad intentions make their way towards the settlements. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593270735 Painting of Finch Farm 2290 - The beginning of the build. Check out this settlement at: https://www.reddit.com/r/falloutsett...r3/finch_farm/ Now, the area, in addition to lots of farmlands, has a market area that helps in processing and shipping crops to all of Charlestown and parts of Downtown Boston. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593270735 Finch Farm 2296 - Market area. Stairs leading to the living quarters in the background. See this build at: https://simsettlements.com/site/inde...y-corvus.8181/ Owner - Abraham Finch Originally, according to the terminal, Abraham was "located at Finch farm with his wife Abigail and his two sons, Daniel and Jake. There tends to often be conflict between Abraham and Jake, which is the most likely reason his son ran away and joined the Forged." https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593270766 Abraham Finch With Abraham being a shrewd businessman in combination with successfully farming and providing food to the downtown area, Finch Farm was a no-doubt location for a franchise. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593270766 Finch Farm official business logo His sons, Daniel and Jake, look to be the likely successors to team ownership and control of Finch Farm. Daniel deals more with the farm side of business, while Jake has been directly involved with the baseball team, even managing the team this season and handling personnel decisions in acquiring players. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 14 July 2296 - Three-way trade among Assaultrons, Mirelurks, and Bloodbugs Three CBO teams made a multi-player trade just one day before the trade deadline to shore up their teams for the final weeks of the season. The Warwick Mirelurks were in the middle of flipping players, with moving relief pitcher Zach DiGrande. DiGrande, the 24th-round pick of the Abernathy Adamantium, was traded to East Boston Prep on July 1. Today, he moved to County Crossing via Warwick through the three-team trade. The Assaultrons moved DiGrande and backup second baseman Richman Harris to Warwick for relief pitcher Ray Housecat. Warwick then moved DiGrande and backup third baseman Nate Beech to County Crossing for reliever Tom Rose, the Bloodbugs' third-round pick. DiGrande appeared in eight games, all with the Adamantium. In those eight games, he pitched 16.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs on 16 hits with 13 walks and 21 strikeouts. He was 1-0 with a 3.78 ERA. Rose has a 1-2 record with a 3.86 ERA. He appeared in 13 games, allowing six earned runs on 23 hits with eight walks and 11 strikeouts in 14.0 innings pitched. The Mirelurks hope to be able to tap into his potential where County Crossing could not. Beech appeared in 30 games, all as a backup. In those games, he went 6 for 30 for a .200 batting average with one double, three runs scored, three runs batted in, and two walks. He struck out six times. Harris, the 24th pick for East Boston Prep, played in three games. He was 2 for 4 for a .500 batting average with one run scored and one batted in. Housecat, Warwick's 15th-round pick, appeared in two games, allowing four earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts in two innings pitched for a 18.00 ERA. 15 July 2296 - County Crossing Trades with The Slog Doc Weathers, owner of the County Crossing Bloodbugs, has signed off on a trade for The Slog's 16-year-old RHP Justin Hale and 24-year-old LF Purple Welch. To complete the deal, the Bloodbugs will send 32-year-old RHP Flotsam DiPasquale and 18-year-old LF Steve Garbageman to the Ghouls. To date this year, DiPasquale has registered no saves, no wins and no losses with a 1.00 ERA. DiPasquale has made 6 relief appearances, worked a total of 9 innings and surrendered 7 hits. He has fanned 13, issued 1 free passes and held opposing clubs to a .233 batting average. 15 July 2296 - Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers Ship Gonzalez to University Point Dimond City Radios has just reported that Shaw HS and University Point have reached a deal sending 30-year-old LF Bernie Gonzalez to the Deathclaws for 24-year-old 2B John Yaoguai and 24-year-old RHP Dubya Bush. This season Gonzalez is batting .333 with 23 RBIs, 26 runs scored and 4 home runs. |

Today in the CBO News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth by Nat Wright-Kowalski 16 July 2296 - Koester Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games Sean Koester has been ripping hits every day for a while now, and nobody seems able to stop him. The Salem shortstop picked up 1 more today against the County Crossing Bloodbugs and now has a 20-game hitting streak. The Witch Hats won the game 6-5. "Definitely somebody's going to stop me at some point," he said later, chuckling. "I'll enjoy it for the time being." Sean Koester flied out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, flied out in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th. This season Koester has banged out 83 hits in 214 at-bats for a .388 average with 4 home runs. He is getting on base at a .431 pace and his totals also include 21 RBIs and 45 runs scored. 16 July 2296 - Party Boys Deal Assaultrons 7-3 Defeat The East Boston Prep Assaultrons and Nordhagen Beach Party Boys were greeted by a ho-hum crowd that realized these two teams may just be playing for the caps. The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys relied on the hitting of center fielder Tomas Jones to stop the East Boston Prep Assaultrons, 7-3. For the game, Jones went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. The Party Boys go to 18-28 with the win. Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Dustin Mart? The Nordhagen Beach first baseman had a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put the Party Boys on top, 2-0. For the game, Mart had 1 double and 1 single in 6 at-bats. Julian Shed (3-3) pitched eight innings to earn the win. Angel Waterdrink (5-6) suffered the loss. "We cashed in when we had the chance," said Nordhagen Beach player-coach Dan Neofotistos. 16 July 2296 - Mirelurks End Oldsink's Streak John Oldsink of the Goodneighbor Hancocks came up empty at the plate today and went hitless in 4 at-bats for the first time in 20 games. Making matters even worse for the starting pitcher, Goodneighbor dropped the game to the Warwick Mirelurks 2-1. "It was not a good day today," Oldsink told the press in postgame comments. "We lost the game and the streak is over." This season Oldsink has gone 8-6 with an ERA of 5.40, posting 69 strikeouts in 100 innings. 16 July 2296 - Shaw HS Eliminated This story will repeat for 15 other of the 24 CBO teams, but the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers of the Railroad League are the first team in the CBO to be officially eliminated from the playoffs. The Knuckle Punchers (11-35) lost 5-4 to the Vault 81 Dwellers. Despite the loss today, Egret (26-20) now has a 15-game lead for the final wildcard spot over Shaw HS with 14 to play. Oberland (32-14) is in first place in the RL. In the Minutemen League, the Jamaica Plain Treasures will probably be eliminated also. At 14-32, they currently trail second-place Atom (26-20) by 12 games. Any combination of two wins by the Cats or two losses by the Treasures would eliminate them from the playoffs for 2296. For the Treasures, that would be forever since new owner Kasumi Nakano is expected to change the team name. 17 July 2296 - Party Boys Take CBO's Longest Game The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys grabbed a win, 12-9, in 16 innings over the East Boston Prep Assaultrons at Easy Town Field. The game is currently the longest game in CBO history. Nordhagen Beach left fielder Michael Fogcrawler went 4 for 5 with a double, 3 singles, and 4 walks, while scoring 2 times. The win has Nordhagen Beach at 19-28. Nordhagen Beach used the timely hitting of Dustin Mart to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 16th inning to put the Party Boys on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 7 at-bats, but it was a game-changer. "It was one of those games where both teams were swinging the bat well," Mart said. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1593281852 17 July 2296 - Big Day for Squirrel: Swats 5 Hits Dan Squirrel was a tough out and went 5-for-7 in a fine hitting display today, but the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys managed to overcome his performance and top the East Boston Prep Assaultrons, 12-9. "I got my pitches and I connected," Squirrel said. "They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody, and some days they fall in. And some days you lose, no matter how well you play." On this occasion, Squirrel played well enough to get his name in the record books. Dan Squirrel doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, walked in the 7th, grounded out in the 8th, singled in the 11th, grounded out in the 13th and singled in the 16th. In 47 games this season Squirrel is batting .416 with 87 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 43 runs and driven in 41. 17 July 2296 - Bloodbugs End Koester's Streak Sean Koester's 20-game hitting streak has now come and gone. It was snapped today as the Salem Witch Hats suffered a 4-1 setback against the County Crossing Bloodbugs. Koester went without a hit in 4 trips to the plate. He was visibly upset during a postgame press conference, but it appeared that the streak had little to do with it. "The hitting streak was one of those things where it was fun while it lasted, but I'm not going to lose any sleep about it tonight," he said. "On the other hand, I am going to lose sleep about dropping this game today." Koester is presently hitting at a .381 pace with 4 home runs and 21 RBIs. He has played in 47 games and scored 45 times. 17 July 2296 - Tiller Rips Sunshine Tidings for 5 Hits It was a sensational day at the plate for Jim Tiller as he led the charge to a 9-4 win over the Chemists. The Fort Hagen first baseman was pure misery for the Sunshine Tidings pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting. "Tiller put the ball into play and he really hit it hard," said Devon Museum, player-coach for the Chemists, after the game. "When you do that, you've got a good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Jim Tiller hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th. For the season Tiller is hitting .348, batted in 45 runs with 2 home runs and 37 runs scored. 17 July 2296 - Udder Gets 5-0 Shutout Matt Udder was impressive at Graygarden Park today in the Oberland T-51s' 5-0 shutout victory over the Diamond City Swatters. The Oberland pitcher mystified the Swatters in a strong performance, giving up 3 hits and totaling 1 walk and 7 strikeouts. "Matt had them chasing a lot of pitches and talking to themselves," Oberland player-coach Jonathan Abern said. "It was something special to watch." So far this year Udder has compiled a 11-4 record with a 4.44 ERA. 18 July 2296 - Nordhagen Beach Completes Sweep East Boston Prep got a terrific performance from left fielder Jarrett Metalbox, but it wasn't enough to beat the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. Nordhagen Beach won the Easy Town Field contest, 8-6, winning all three games in the series. Metalbox was 4 for 4 with 4 singles and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times for the losing team. The winning pitcher was Casey Diehl. He tossed 99 pitches over 5 innings, allowing 6 runs on 9 hits. Nordhagen Beach has 3 straight wins, East Boston Prep 3 straight losses. A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Party Boys sent teenager Brian Masterson to the plate against Assaultrons hurler Smoker Caliman. With runners on 1st and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 2-2 changeup to score 2. "Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Masterson. 18 July 2296 - Razor-Sharp Oldsink Blanks Warwick It wasn't easy but John Oldsink made it look that way. Oldsink silenced the Warwick Mirelurks, 9-0, in a Goodneighbor Hancocks triumph at The Homestead today. Despite the appearance of dominance, Oldsink said later that he felt like he was struggling all game. He gave up no walks and 2 hits. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I made the decision to bear down and work through it," he said. "I made a few mistakes but it goes to show what you can do with grit and not much else." Looking at his season stats, Oldsink has won 9 and lost 6, collecting 71 strikeouts and 29 walks in 109 innings with a 4.95 ERA. 18 July 2296 - Swatters End Perez's Streak It just wasn't B.J. Perez's day. The Oberland T-51s took the 9-8 win today over the Diamond City Swatters, but the Swatters mound staff did what nobody else could -- they stopped the 24-game hitting streak of T-51s center fielder B.J. Perez. "We might have focused a bit too much on stopping Perez," Diamond City owner Moe Cronin commented afterward. "He had a nice hitting streak going, but the T-51s have other hitters and they did their job today." On the year Perez is hitting .453 with 97 hits, 6 home runs, 43 RBIs, .512 OBP and has scored 57 runs. |
That's a nice little sequence from the Boys, and against opposition that we wouldn't necessarily have expected them to beat. Too little, too lat, though, I'm afraid. Nice to see my old friend Tomas Jones doing something positive - how's he going in the season so far?

This is Travis Miles. You are listening to "The Confidence Man Minute." Hello, baseball fans from Tato Field at Abernathy Farm. This weekend you watched two teams battling for the division banner and a playoff spot when the first place Starlight Lady Killers traveled here to Abernathy to take on the Adamantium. And as we saw in this weekend's matchup, the Lady Killers remain in first place, but the Adamantium gain a game on them, winning two of three. Today's game was a no-contest. Abernathy jumped ahead in the third inning and never looked back in clinching the series with a 16-2 pounding. That most certainly has to jar the Lady Killers' confidence going into the final four weekends of the season. This series could have gone much differently for both teams. In Game One, Starlight won it 10-6. The Lady Killers' Glen Higinbotham led the way, going 2 for 5 with a double and a home run, scoring once, and driving in five. That win gave Starlight a three-game lead in the division at the time, which guaranteed them to hold on to first place, at least for now. Abernathy made their first statement in Game 2, winning 6-2 behind the masterful pitching of Joe Penaltybox. Though he ran out of gas and lost his shutout with two outs in the ninth, Penaltybox moved to 6-5 on the season after Bryan Punchline came in to get the final out. Penaltybox's final numbers included 8 and 2/3 innings pitched, two unearned runs, six hits, four walks, and six strikeouts. This afternoon's star was a toss-up between the Adamantium's Radio Short and Austin Engill. Short was the game's MVP, going 4 for 4 with two doubles, two runs scored, two runs batted in, and a walk. Engill went 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored, three runs batted in, and two walks. We don't know yet where we will be next weekend. A few candidates include going to the Brotherhood or Minutemen Leagues for some top-half matchups, but we are waiting for WRVR's decision. They are finishing up their game currently where the Egret Scrappers are looking to move to 27-21 by leading 9-7 in the top of the ninth against the 26-21 Fairline Hill Estates Yao Guai. Wherever we're going, tune in tomorrow for a CBO wrap up power hour. I'll break down this weekend with as many quotes as I can get from players on the Lady Killers and Adamantium. Anyway, this has been Travis Miles. Stay safe out there, Commonwealth. |
