I found a lot of the repeats to be interesting, including picking some of the same award winners as a year ago when there are several players with the same of similar ratings. Of course, Beachboy Nut is a given pick, but outside of him?

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

6 April 2303

Top Players and Prospects

The 2303 season is upon us, and the OSA scouts have turned the tables on who they believe the CBO's top players are. #1 at hitting in the CBO according to OSA is University Point's 1B Barker Cocoa. The top-ranked pitcher in the organization is Roxbury's Nuke Laloosh.

Cocoa, who finished 3rd in the South Charles Association in 2302 in the Nuka-Hitter Award voting, has been an overall great player for the Deathclaws since his arrival in the CBO in 2298. In 2302, he led the SCA in three categories: walks (140), OBP (.514), and OPS (1.132). His 140 walks set the CBO record, which he set the year before with 118. He currently holds career leads in OBP (.489) and OPS (1.069). Cocoa has won the Corvega Top Defender Award and the BosCom Positional Hitter Award at 1B the last three seasons, as well as being selected to the All-Star Game all three years.

Laloosh, the former 1st-overall pick by the Rad Sox in 2299, is entering his fourth season in the CBO and his second-straight season as a full-time starter. Packed with a bunch of natural talent, Laloosh has not settled on the talent, instead making it a goal to be the best pitcher in the history of the CBO. Last season, he began to show true ability, going 8-4 with a 3.25 ERA in 20 starts. His 1.4 walks per nine innings and 5.42 strikeout-to-walk ratio were tops in the SCA. He is one of the top ground ball pitchers in the CBO, which he showed by allowing only nine home runs in 2302.

The top prospects in the CBO are almost all dominated by hitters with the top 5 being on offense. At the top of them all is 2302 #1 overall pick, SS Stormin Normin MacDonald of the Lynn Fortune Finders (Oberland) in the GBRL. In his final season with the Circle Jerks of the BYDL, MacDonald hit .347 in 66 games with 16 home runs, 71 runs, and 54 RBI. Considered a player capable of leading the CBO in batting average and home runs, MacDonald could be the top offensive player ever in the history of the league if he hits his full potential.

Not a first-year pro, former 2nd-round draft pick by Nordhagen Beach in the 2299 Rookie Draft, Oberland's Odd Thomas Koontz is considered the top prospect at pitcher. Potentially with the T-51s to start the season as a reliever, Koontz is expected to eventually be at the top of Oberland's lineup. In the past three seasons with Beach Boys' BMU former affiliate, the Greentop Nursery Night People, Koontz compiled a 16-24 record with a 4.75 ERA in 54 games with 50 starts. Why the top pitching prospect? According to the OSA scouting report, the 23-year-old Koontz has shown progressive development in all five of his pitches: circle change, curveball, fastball, slider, and changeup. He has the potential to have elite stuff that can overwhelm batters with the sheer number of pitches he can throw at them.

Angelwings Gets His Angel Wings

It's a wild, wild world, and we are lucky to be in it. It is not every day that we have to report sad news, but a GBRL player for the Neponset Park Criticals, a Salem Witch Hats affiliate, has passed away due to injuries from an explosion.

According to an official statement from the Salem organization, Andrew Angelwings, a second-year player and the 38th overall pick in the 2301 Rookie Draft, died after mistaking a baseball grenade as a baseball with loose strings.

Angelwings purportedly pulled the pin of the baseball grenade believing it to be a loose string. The baseball grenade then exploded in his hand, rendering him lifeless.

Angelwings was preceded in death by his parents, Arch and Earth Angelwings; his brothers, Chicken, Buffalo, Broken, and Red; and his sisters, Acute, Try, Los, and Rekt.

The Criticals plan to honor Angelwings by retiring his #29. Salem is considering honoring that same retirement with the permission of current reliever John Peters. Peters had indicated he would not take action until he heard three crows.

----------------------------------------------

Note: By my dice rules, I roll for special occurrences. In this case, I rolled an incident at the GBRL level: random numbered team, random numbered player on team, and then the dice roll determines the severity of the event. Well, a single 6 equals one year, but a second 6 is a multiplier with a third six being a career ender. A fourth six is a no doubt death. He's the second quadruple 6 naturally rolled in my league.

I know I said I would update every two weeks, but it was an interesting first week with the first-ever inter-association play.

I also want to let you guys know that this is my distraction right now. Of course when my life gets busiest because of hopes to advance my professional life, other issues pop up. I am not making the right choices tonight to choose to suffer tomorrow, but I need some escape. The CBO is my greatest escape.

Anyway, look closely at these standings and stats leaders. I know that the schedule moved from 108 to 120, and that means that there is a lot of time for this narrative to change. However, I will tell you that my real-world job is to take numbers and write stories about those numbers. THESE numbers have some interesting stories!

OrangeP47 03-10-2023 06:13 AM

Man, we haven't had a good event like that in awhile, thought the league was getting safer haha!

Feature Story: How the Bloodbugs Have Swarmed the SCA

When we saw PAM's predictions, the first question we had was, "How will County Crossing possibly surpass Nordhagen Beach in the Brotherhood League?" PAM not only predicted the Bloodbugs to do that but also to win the Sole Survivor Series. Well, today let's look at how the Bugs are sitting atop the CBO standings at 10-2 after pummeling the South Charles Association in the CBO's first-ever interassociation schedule.

The lead: +41
Country Crossing not only has gone 10-2 in their first 12, but they are outscoring their opponents by a CBO-best 5.9 (71 total runs, 1st in NCA and t-2nd in CBO) to 2.5 (30 runs against, 1st in NCA and 2nd in CBO), a 3.4-run difference. The 41-run difference is second in the CBO only to the Roxbury Rad Sox of the Railroad League which have outscored their opponents 66-23 (+43). In the matchup of the Bugs and Sox, County Crossing took that one, 3-1.

Both of the Bloodbugs' losses were by one run. In their first loss versus defending champions University Point, the Deathclaws needed an extra inning to take that one, 3-2. The second loss came in a surprise pitcher's duel, a 2-1 loss at home against Oberland.

A few big wins included beating Atom to start the season, 5-1; Whipping the Red Rockets at Jamaica Plain, 9-2; topping Diamond City, 8-5; and stomping the Vault 81 Dwellers, 9-2.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1678548752

OSA scouts think County Crossing has three players who are the best in the CBO at their position: C Biter Trout, 3B Taygun Topaloglu, and RF Babs Rooth. Looking at top individual performers, those three have not disappointed. Trout currently leads the team in batting average with a .438/1/4 line batting from the 6-spot in the lineup. Topaloglu is the overall best hitter, going .412/4/14 as the cleanup hitter. Rooth is also having a great start, hitting .372/3/9. Though he is not a qualifier at the moment, LF Delmarva Illeracula is also off to a hot start in six starts, .435/2/5. Not to be overlooked, leadoff hitter 1B Ajani Peacock is hitting .300/1/7 and has four stolen bases.

The starting pitching has been nearly perfect. Ace Gavin Eviritts, currently scouted as the 6th-best ace in the CBO, is 2-0 with a 3.72 ERA, which is a bad ERA for the NCA's best Starting Pitching ERA of 2.35. Whip Lashley (2-0, 1.88) and Urm Rehfeldt (2-1, 0.48) have helped to bring down that ERA. The bullpen is also getting it done with just a 1.95 ERA. It's only that high because closer Jesse Bibeault has a 2.45 ERA but has saved four games, good enough to be tied for second in the NCA. Only Finch Farm's William Butcherman has more (5).

Now that County Crossing is moving into their association games for the rest of the season, we can start to see how they fare against the Institute League with a few surprising struggles there, the most surprising of which is the Starlight Lady Killers (3-9), who were in the playoffs the last two seasons.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1678548752

News and Notes: We usually like to monitor which teams have the worst injury luck to begin the season. So far this season, it is the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, who have lost a top pitcher in Mike Cartrette and their starting left fielder, Ginger Rogers for a time. Cartrette has become injury-prone and may not be in Fort Hagen much longer. In 2302, he started just two games before getting injured for the season. This season, he made it to his third start. Cartrette is expected back in June.

Analysis

While PAM seems to be right on track with County Crossing (#1) to start the season, she is equally wrong about the team she predicted to lose to the Bloodbugs in the Sole Survivor Series: Jamaica Plain (#22). The Red Rockets are 4-8 to start the season, only one game ahead of #24 Starlight.

Predictable powerhouse, Nordhagen Beach (#15), has also been a surprising team struggling to begin the season at 5-7. The Party Boys struggled heavily against the Minutemen League, going 2-4, including a 12-inning, 8-4 win over the Rockets. They bounced back some against the Railroad League, but none were quality wins. Vault 81 (#19) is considered to be a playoff contender, but they have struggled, too. They are probably the best team the Boys have beaten.

Looking at the top, Roxbury (#2) may be on a collision path with the Bloodbugs due to their dominant pitching. Allowing under two runs a gam, the Rad Sox may have overtaken the Party Boys for the CBO's best pitching. Roxbury's three losses were 5-1 (#7 Fort Hagen), 3-2 (#8 Abernathy), and 3-1 (County Crossing). The only other time they allowed three runs came in their 5-3 win at Nordhagen Beach.

The #3 team is the Sunshine Tidings Chemists who came close in 2302 to make the playoffs but fell short on a play-in game. This season, they are off to a 9-3 start, tying them for the CBO's 2nd-best record and tops in the Institute League. They have been winning with pitching so far, though they are not considered to be a strong pitching team. Still, SPs Mike Rubric (2-0, 1.71), Brian Bridges (2-0, 2.04), and Bill Sarnacki (3-0, 3.27) are perfect as the 1-2-3 pitchers. Rookie RF Baktu DaWell (.381/5/13) is an early favorite to win the Red Rocket Rookie Award and is in the running in the first 10% of the season for the Nuka-Hitter Award.

Diamond City (#4) and University Point (#5) round out the Top 5. The Swatters lead the CBO in runs scored (80). 3B Allen Bishop (.319/1/13), RF Waze Waiting (.298/3/10), and 1B Oren Gep (.310/2/9) have been their top producers. The Deathclaws are right behind Diamond City offensively. RF Tomas Jones is the easy early-season prediction for the Nuka-Hitter Award in the SCA, batting .400/5/11. SS Austin Engill (.277/4/7) and 1B Barker Cocoa (.378/2/6) have also propelled the offense.

I mean, as I've always said, the creepy crawly teams are really the only ones I'm going to root against, but credit where credit is due, that's a strong start.

I don't know if there will be a return to the mean for the Bugs this year or not. They do not appear on paper to be significantly better than the other teams in the CBO, but they have had a hot April.

Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL, NWLB, and APYL Leagues

by Evan Guy

1 May 2303

Cherry Tops to End April

They have struggled the past two season after winning the Nuka Series in 2300, but the Cherry Ghoulrillas are again sitting on top of the Nuka Word League. With a 7-2 start, the Ghoulrillas have burst ahead of the Dark Bloodworms and stand three games ahead of defending champions, the Victory Cave Crickets.

The main reason behind the success is a stellar start on offense. 3B Andy Knickson, a second-year player, has been insane. Knickson is hitting .455 in the first nine games with two home runs and seven RBI. After Knickson, three other players have begun the season batting over .300 and having multiple home runs: RF Bryan Madsen (.343/3/8), 1B Carlos Aguilar (.346/3/6), and SS Mike Blackheart (.310/2/7).

While 3.39 as a Starters ERA is not bad, the Ghoulrillas are only third in the league. It is only that high because of SP Khalil Brite's (0-1, 10.80) bad start. Other than Brite, Joe Penaltybox (2-0, 1.09), Mike Coombaya (1-0, 3.75), and Travis Armstrong (2-0, 2.81) are doing just fine.

Star player of the Hubologists. Last season, he hit .320 with 17 home runs and 40 RBI. He hit 20 home runs the year before, which makes him the all-time home run king entering his third season. Starcore is a future 1st-round draft pick in the Season Pass Association draft as one of the best prospects to come out of the Bradberton area.

5 Teams Can Claim Division Lead in April

Five teams currently are tied for their division lead with the other five Vim! League teams needing to step it up.

In the Fog Division, three teams have fought their way into the league lead. The Eden Meadows Anglers have been the hottest of those three, winning their last four. The reason the Anglers have been able to tie is because the Rayburn Point Patcheyes have lost three straight. The Brooke's Head Behemoths round out the division.

In the Harbor Division, the Acadia Acadians have won five straight to tie the Dalton Farm Fog Crawlers. The bottom three all trail by at least four games.

"1B Homestay Lovetap"

Ope I've found this month's name winner.

He's an interesting player, too. He did not start playing baseball until he was almost 18, just three years ago. He was a part-time player for the Beerthirty Sippers of the BYDL in his one year there, starting just 16 games. He did, however, punish RHPs, hitting 11 HRs in that limited time. He was selected as a prospect in the 5th round of the 2300 Rookie Draft by Jamaica Plain but was part of the trade with Warwick that brought Bubb Islander to the Red Rockets.

Lovetap is a free-swinging extra power hitter and will probably break the 30 HR mark this season. He will probably also strike out a lot, too. Whatever the case for him, the Mirelurks have a hidden gem with his quite powerful love taps off the wood.

Tyke 03-19-2023 08:32 AM

My personal favourite is SS Knud Bather!

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

4 May 2303

Feature Story: May the Force Be with the Rad Sox

When a team drafts at the top of the Rookie Draft year in and year out for several years, they are bound to develop some top-notch prospects. The Roxbury Rad Sox started their venture in the CBO as the bottom team, but they have been building talent and trading for more over the years. Now, they may be the force of the South Charles Association.

The lead: 2.45 Runs Allowed/Game

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1679236813

Two teams have been absolutely dominant in pitching: County Crossing and the Rad Sox. Both teams are tied for the CBO lead in runs allowed per game, each allowing 54 total runs on the season. Roxbury has had the most highs in that time, leading the CBO in shutouts with five. The Bloodbugs in comparison have had just one.

Roxbury has two #1 overall picks at the top of its rotation in Nuka Laloosh (2299) and Eugene Gym (2298). They also once had the rights to the 2296 1st overall pick, Nordhagen Beach's Beachboy Nut but traded him for their current starting left side of their infield in SS Purple Gupta and 3B Donn Mattingley, each of whom are contributing to the Sox's success.

Laloosh has been as rock-solid as one can hope for in helping the Rad Sox to the best Starters ERA (1.87), FIP (3.08), and Pitching WAR (5.7) in the SCA. In five starts, Laloosh is 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA in 37.2 innings. He has allowed 29 hits, eight earned runs, and four home runs, walked five batters, and struck out 37. As of today, he leads the CBO in strikeouts per walk at 7.4, 0.4 points better than Nut. He is also one of just 12 pitchers in the CBO, which also includes his teammate Gwinnett Southie, whom we will cover shortly. In the SCA, he is 6th in ERA, tied for 7th in wins, third in pitcher WAR (1.4), tied for 2nd in complete games, tied for 2nd in shutouts, second in strikeouts, third in strikeouts per 9 innings, 2nd in walks per 9 innings, 2nd in WHIP, 3rd in FIP, 6th in ERA+, 5th in rWAR, and tied for 7th in quality starts. Other than the other pitchers in the rotation for Roxbury, he is high on the Vim! Pitcher Award list after four weeks of CBO play.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1679236802

Gym has not been as strong to start the season, though there is nothing wrong with his numbers. In six starts, Gym is 4-2 with a 3.12 ERA. He has pitched 43.1 innings, allowing 41 hits, 15 earned runs, and four homers, walked 12, and struck out 39.

The person who has been the dominant factor this season, and BNN's current choice as the runaway Vim! Pitcher Award winner is fourth starter Southie. The former 6th-round pick in the 2296 Inaugural Draft by the Starlight Lady Killers and currently with his fourth different franchise (also, Concord and The Slog), Southie is performing beyond his ceiling, despite having a good career. In his career, he is 74-59 with a 4.44 ERA, including five straight seasons of winning at least 11 games. This season, he is 4-0 in five starts with a 0.54 ERA, allowing just two earned runs in 33.1 innings pitched. He has allowed 21 hits, walked four, and struck out 20 in that stretch. Southie leads the CBO in multiple statistical categories: ERA, WAR (1.6), WHIP (0.75), FIP (1.78), and ERA+ (793), and he is tied for winning percentage. In the SCA, he is the leader or near the top in wins, K/BB (2nd at 5.0), BB/9 (1st at 1.1), rWAR (2nd at 2.1), BABIP (6th at .212), Opp Avg (2nd at .178), and quality starts (1st-T at 5).

Finally, third starter, Whokill Poole, a former free agent pickup who made his way into the Roxbury starting rotation last season, has been contributing to the dominance. In six starts, Poole is 4-2 with a 1.61 ERA. He has pitched 44.2 innings, allowing 29 hits, eight earned runs, and three home runs. He has walked 13 and struck out 20. He also is on top of a few CBO categories: complete games and shutouts (2) and rWAR (2.3). He also leads the SCA in innings pitched and is tied for 1st with four wins and five quality starts.

News and Notes: Two recent players of the week, including this week's top player in the NCA are on the mend. The Bugs' Babs Rooth (1st in CBO with a .429 average) and Vault 81's Knud Bather are both sitting out a while with injuries. . . . Goodneighbor's former star turned pedestrian player, Bryan Assman, has been finding some success in his power game this season, currently tied for 3rd in the SCA with 8 home runs.

Analysis

They may have shown a dominant start in going 10-2 against the SCA in the first-ever interassociation matchups in the CBO, but County Crossing (#1) has doubled down against the Institute League, going 9-1 in the opening stretch. Concord (#12) has been the only team the Bloodbugs have not faced, and only Lexington (#16) split a series 1-1 with them.

At #2, the team we featured above, the Rad Sox have gone 8-2 in their matchups against the Minutemen League, winning their first five before splitting at Goodneighbor (#7) and Warwick (#21).

The defending champions, University Point, is at #3. The Deathclaws have gone 7-3 against a strong Railroad League group, splitting series with Vault 81 (#14), FHE, and Diamond City. The Claws and Rad Sox have yet to face off but meet up in Roxbury tomorrow and Wednesday.

Two more Railroad League teams make up #4 and #5 in the Power Rankings. Diamond City went 6-4, which included a three-game losing streak and now a three-game winning streak. The split with the Hancocks, swept Quincy (#17), got swept at Jamaica Plain (#13), split with the Claws, and then swept Atom (#18).

For the Yao Guai, they also went 6-4 against the ML. They split with the Gunners, Red Rockets, Claws, and Cats before sweeping Warwick (#21).

Oberland started the season decently in interassociation games, going 6-6, but has faded in their matchups against the RL, falling to #24. The T-51s went 1-9 the last two weeks, including a current seven-game winning streak. Their sole victory in that stretch was a 11-8 win over the Mirelurks.

Don't forget that he has a brother named Buff. Buff Bather was originally drafted by Abernathy but struggled with their organization. He signed as a free agent with the Dark Bloodworms of the NWL.

We actually got a lot of strong starts this season. Good, hopefully things stay interesting.

I didn't mention much about them, and we'll see how they'll fare, but the Sunshine Tidings are a dark horse team ahead of their league right now. It's the tightest league right now with the Chemists and Starlight only five games apart from 1st and 6th. Sunshine Tidings has shown improvement, barely missing the playoffs last year after finishing last or nearly last every other season of the full CBO. They lost the 2nd-place tiebreaker to the Lady Killers last year for the last playoff spot.

I'm not sure there is anything special about them, but rookie Baktu DaWell, who was a monster in the BYDL but not projected to be great, has been lights out so far. I actually cannot figure that one out in my analysis of the OOTP engine. He hit 37 home runs with Wattz his only season in the formed BYDL. He got drafted 2nd overall, though scouts projected him to be drafted lower. And he hit 39 homers last season with Rocky Narrows in the GBRL. Yet OSA does not see greatness in him. I think I must have bumped up his potential because I thought it was crazy that he was putting up monster numbers and not getting any respect. He is currently a 26 overall but has 6 homers and 18 RBI while batting .338 in 18 starts.
