The Rad Sox will be heavy favorites, for sure. They look to be one of those juggernaut teams this season where everything fell right for them. I was curious to see a Bugs-Sox series since both of those teams were so dominant all season, but the Shroud squashed that chance. Now let's see what they do against another dominating team.

Good matchup this year. Also probably should have commented earlier, but just realized how fitting it is the Rad Sox squared off against the Swatters at the start. Anywho, looks like we're seeing a natural transition from certain teams dominating, which is good, instead of continued dominance or just a sudden shift.

One of the reasons I set the Talent Change Randomness in the league was to help prevent dynasties from forming. For my league, I will get tired of it if it were to have the same teams always winning. Now, it looks as though that is partially happening with some teams being perennial playoff participants, but I did take a peek through the looking glass to see if my hope was realistic. That seems to be the case!

On the negative side, some of the stars will quickly fall off a cliff and some people who did nothing before will suddenly become stars. I will just have to accept that some of my favorite players will be nobodies soon! However, some more may never experience a stat drop until the "natural" age in their 30s. I may have to peek into the future a few more times just to see if there are statistical outliers who remain at the top, or if most players end up like Bryan Assman, from superstar to meh.

This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL

14 October 2303

Sole Survivor Series VIII Begins Today

Today marks the beginning of the eighth-annual Sole Survivor Series as the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud take on the Roxbury Rad Sox in Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury.

These two teams took quite different paths to get to the final series, so let's take a look at each team's journey.

The Roxbury Rad Sox are making just their second playoff appearance and first Sole Survivor Series. Led by third-year manager, Coffee Kupp, the Rad Sox finished 83-37 (.691) on the season, tops in the South Charles Association. Kupp is known as a pitcher's manager, feeling his team is best when the pitching staff is strong, and Roxbury certainly has that.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1687621362

The top three rated players by OSA scouts on the Rad Sox squad are SP Nuke Laloosh (13-2, 1.73), CL Andy Helium (29 SV, 3.18), and 2B Chris Connexx (.302/21/95). Roxbury has a CBO-high 18 players rated as plus-players, another word for "good" and only one minus-player, or below average. There are no significant injuries for the team entering the Sole Survivor Series.

By month in the regular season, the Sox went 15-5 in April, 18-4 in May, 16-5 in June, 6-14 in July, 20-2 in August, and 8-7 in September. In the playoffs, Roxbury downed their Railroad League rivals, the Diamond City Swatters, three games to two and then beat the defending champions, the University Point Deathclaws, four games to one.

The Silver Shroud led the Institute League for most of the season but relinquished that lead on the 121st game, a tie breaker game versus the Concord Radstags. Fort Hagen finished 64-57 (.529), earning them the 4th seed in the 2303 playoffs. For the Shroud, 2303 marked the seventh-straight season in the playoffs. While they have never won the championship, they did play in two Sole Survivor Series, both losses to the back-to-back champions, the Swatters.

For Fort Hagen in the regular season, they went 11-9 in April, 12-10 in May, 12-9 in June, 11-9 in July, 10-12 in August, and 8-8 in September. Their playoff run has been longer. In the Play-In Series, the Shroud defeated playoff newcomers, the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, two games to one. Fort Hagen upset the CBO's best team, the County Crossing Bloodbugs, three games to two in the semifinals, and then they overcame their second-place finish to defeat Institute League champions, the Stags, four games to one.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1687621362

Silver Shroud players atop the OSA scouting list are CF Ben Pawlak (.348/18/67), SP/RP Jim Livermore (9-11, 4.34), and ace SP Derek Green (16-8, 2.59). Twelve of the Shroud's 25 players are considered plus-players and just one is a minus-player. Like the Sox, Fort Hagen has no significant injuries entering the Series.

Player Spotlights

CF Ben Pawlak, Fort Hagen

Ben Pawlak, the pride of Milton, Massachusetts, west of Quincy has become a legendary figure within the CBO as a member of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. Born on March 23, 2277, Pawlak's passion for the game was evident from an early age, and he swiftly rose through the ranks, making a name for himself as an extraordinary center fielder.

A youth player in the Quincy Youth League for the Poseidon Energy Red, Pawlak batted .441 in 26 games with 13 home runs, 52 runs scored, 42 driven in, and 20 stolen bases in his final season in 2296. That was the only year that stats were recorded as a mandate for draft eligibility in the CBO. Pawlak then left the QYL for the CBO draft in 2296.

Drafted by the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud in the 2296 Rookie Draft as the 3rd overall pick, Pawlak quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with. His incredible athleticism, exceptional fielding skills, and lightning-fast speed made him an invaluable asset to the team.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1687621362

Throughout his career, Pawlak has accumulated a remarkable collection of accolades and achievements. He is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Nuka-Hitter Award, awarded to the top offensive player in the association, having claimed the title in 2300, 2301, and 2302. His ability to consistently connect with the ball and drive in runs has earned him a reputation as one of the most feared hitters in the game.

Not only a formidable offensive player, Pawlak is also known for his outstanding defensive prowess. In 2300, he was honored with the Corvega Top Defender Award for his exceptional performance as a center fielder, showcasing his ability to make jaw-dropping catches, cover vast distances in the outfield, and prevent opposing teams from scoring.

Pawlak's remarkable skills and achievements have earned him a spot in the All-Star Game for five consecutive years, from 2299 to 2303. His consistent excellence on the field, both offensively and defensively, has solidified his status as one of the league's premier players.

Off the field, Pawlak has become a fan favorite, adored by supporters of the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and baseball enthusiasts across the Commonwealth. His dedication, work ethic, and humble nature have endeared him to fans, who appreciate his commitment to the game and his team.

Considered the best center fielder in baseball, Pawlak's impact extends beyond his individual achievements. He serves as a mentor and leader in the locker room, inspiring his teammates to strive for greatness and fostering a strong team spirit within the Silver Shroud organization.

In the wasteland's harsh and unforgiving landscape, Pawlak shines as a beacon of excellence, embodying the spirit of a true baseball legend. His incredible performances, unwavering work ethic, and genuine connection with the fans have made him an icon of the sport, ensuring his legacy as one of the greatest center fielders to grace the Commonwealth Baseball Organization.

SP Nuke Laloosh, Roxbury

Nuke Laloosh, a prodigious talent hailing from the town of Wendell, Massachusetts, has become a standout figure in the CBO as a starting pitcher and ace for the Roxbury Rad Sox. Born on December 5, 2280, Laloosh's journey to the top has been marked by sheer determination, unrivaled intellect, and an unwavering drive for success.

Even in his youth, Laloosh displayed an exceptional aptitude for the game. As a member of the Beerthirty Sippers of the Boston Youth Development League, he achieved a remarkable undefeated record of 12-0. His dominance on the mound was unparalleled, boasting an astonishing 0.29 ERA, striking out 238 batters in just 125.0 innings, and averaging an impressive 1.9 strikeouts per inning. Throughout the entire season, he allowed a mere four runs, solidifying his reputation as a formidable force and a future star in the CBO.

It was no surprise, then, when Laloosh was selected as the first overall pick in the 2299 Rookie Draft by the Roxbury Rad Sox. His talent and potential were apparent to all, and he quickly transitioned to the professional ranks, ready to make his mark on the CBO.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1687621371

On the field, Laloosh's intellect and work ethic shine through in his performances. His strategic approach to pitching, combined with an extensive knowledge of the game, enables him to outwit and outmaneuver opposing batters. With a diverse arsenal of pitches and pinpoint accuracy, he confounds hitters and leaves them guessing at his next move. His poise, focus, and ability to perform under pressure have elevated him to the upper echelons of the league.

Off the field, Laloosh's personal journey holds a profound significance. His family undertook a perilous journey along the former Mohawk Trail from Wendell’s Country Store Settlement to Boston in 2288, seeking refuge from the harsh realities of the wasteland. They were drawn to the prospect of a safer life in the rejuvenated city, and their courage and determination paved the way for Laloosh's own path to success. Laloosh’s father has claimed that his son was valuable in the journey because he could “pick off bloatflies from 100 feet” with his collection of vintage baseballs. Nuke carries the weight of his family's journey as a constant reminder of the opportunities he has been granted and the responsibility he bears as a role model.

Throughout the CBO, Laloosh is widely regarded as a rising star and a beacon of hope for aspiring players. His drive, intelligence, and commitment to excellence have earned him the respect of his peers and the admiration of fans across the Commonwealth. As he continues to showcase his formidable skills on the mound, Laloosh is poised to leave a mark on the world of baseball, proving that even amidst the challenges of the wasteland, determination and talent can pave the way to greatness.

Season Series

Season Opener, April 7: Fort Hagen 5 at Roxbury 1

Silver Shroud Upend Rad Sox, 5-1

Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury was the site of the home opener for the Roxbury Rad Sox. The contest featured a prime matchup between Mike Cartrette of the visiting Fort Hagen Silver Shroud and Eugene Gym of the Rad Sox. The final score was 5-1, the Silver Shroud getting the win. Cartrette turned in the best performance. Cartrette, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 4, and allowing 1 run.

Fort Hagen used the clutch hitting of Andrew Nuka to capture the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Silver Shroud ahead, 5-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.

"I feel honored to be a part of this team," said Nuka.

The Sox's Donn Mattingley also hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot off Cartrette in the third.

Gym (0-1) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

Prediction

While Fort Hagen has been this far, they have yet to win the championship. Their performance in the playoffs has been impressive, but the Roxbury squad is built differently than anyone else that the Shroud have played. We are expecting the Rad Sox to win this one in five games, breaking the Boston curse of teams named the Sox never winning a championship. Roxbury 4, Fort Hagen 1.

Game 1 Preview

SP - Laloosh vs Cartrette - Advantage Rox
Batting: 5 batters advantage Rox, 2 batters advantage FtH, and one draw

On more or less default settings I had the Dodgers win 17/30 World series, so yeah, that's the great thing about OOTP, how customizable it is. If only I could figure out why the AL and NL are still drastically diverged even after the NL adopted the DH, but oh well...

Anywho, good write up post. As a Roman Numeral aficionado, I hope the Sole Survivor series continues to use them like the NFL does (and I was very sad when 50 was just 50 :crying: ) I'm not gonna bet on Fort Hagan, but the history of the series does show it's basically their "turn". Actually events do not have to cooperate though, but they've had more historical success than I remembered. Always the bridesmaid.

Game 1: Fort Hagen 1 at Roxbury 10

Gupta, Rad Sox Wallop Silver Shroud in Game 1 of SSS

The Roxbury Rad Sox started the Sole Survivor Series in style today, downing the visiting Fort Hagen Silver Shroud at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury by a score of 10-1 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Rad Sox shortstop Purple Gupta went 1 for 1 with a home run and 4 walks. He scored 3 runs.

Biddy Swenson dealt the Silver Shroud a blow in the bottom of the first. Batting with the bases loaded and Roxbury leading 2-0, Swenson, who is a four-time Corvega Top Defender Award winner, hit a full count slider for a bases-clearing double.

"I'm really happy I delivered," said Gupta. "The pressure is so high up there, it's indescribable. This is the Sole Survivor Series."

Nuke Laloosh pitched a complete game for the Sox. In 9.0 innings, he allowed one earned run on nine hits with four strikeouts. The lone run allowed was a 6th-inning bomb by the Shroud's Ben Pawlak.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

Notes: Purple Gupta sets the SCA playoff game record for bases on balls with 4.

Game 2: Fort Hagen 2 at Roxbury 0

Fort Hagen Wins to Pull Even With Roxbury

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud defeated the Roxbury Rad Sox, 2-0, in Game 2 of the Sole Survivor Series. Doing his part was starter Derek Green, who threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball. The win moves Fort Hagen into a 1-1 tie with Roxbury in the series.

In his 104-pitch effort, Green allowed no runs on 2 hits over 7 innings. He walked 1 and struck out 9.

"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Green said.

Ben Pawlak homered for the second-straight game. For the game, he was 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, two runs, and an RBI.

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at Hubris Comics Park in Fort Hagen.

Note: RP Roger Failure was injured while pitching. It appears to be a significant injury that will keep him out into the 2304 season.

Roxbury Win to Pull Even With Fort Hagen

The Roxbury Rad Sox topped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud by the score of 7-3 and moved into a 2-2 tie in the Sole Survivor Series today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Roxbury starter Nuke Laloosh, who threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs in the win.

Biddy Swenson, the two-time All-Star , had a direct impact on the outcome. Swenson contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning to put Roxbury up, 2-1.

"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Laloosh.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Hubris Comics Park in Fort Hagen.

Game 5: Roxbury 3 at Fort Hagen 10

Tiller was 4-4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the Silver Shroud, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 3 games to 2.

With one out in the top of the third, Chris Connexx had a chance to do some damage. Roxbury was trailing 7-0, but had the bases loaded. Connexx came to the plate against Derek Green, and grounded out, driving in 1 run. But it was not enough to complete a Roxbury comeback.

Game 6 is scheduled for Wednesday at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

Oh, this is a good fight. Have you upgraded to 24 yet? I've noticed playoffs in 24 are more competitive than 23 and past versions.

Of course, if Fort Hagan is to win it, it's going to be competitive. It's either that or a blow out for the Sox.

ayaghmour2 06-25-2023 09:00 PM

Did not expect the Rad Sox to be facing elimination like this, but with home field I still think they have an edge. Game six should be very exciting!

I'm still on 23. I will probably upgrade on one of the next sales: Labor Day (?) or the World Series.

Game 5 was the biggest shock so far with the Shroud scoring 10. The other two wins were low-scoring affairs. Roxbury needs their offense to ensure wins in Games 6 and 7.

Congratulations. My Alma Mater made it to the NCAA tourney for the first time in my adult life in both baseball and softball this year (and obviously it took a few years into my adult life before I went there anyway, so I didn't really have any connection last time, though I did go local).

I had to investigate! :D I saw only two teams that were first-time softball participants that were also in the baseball tournament. Since one of those two schools was in their third-ever baseball tournament and the other school had no mention on their Wikipedia page when they had been in the tournament, I have to go with that one school as your alma mater. So my guess in suggested acronyms of those two schools is this: While you may have a strong Emotional Intelligence, I bet you would make a great General Manager. Is my guess right?

Games 6 + 7

Game 6: Fort Hagen 1 at Roxbury 6

Raucous Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury Crowd Propels Rad Sox to 6-1 Victory; Series Tied at 3

The Roxbury Rad Sox and the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud will take the Sole Survivor Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation today, the Rad Sox beat the Silver Shroud 6-1 at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Roxbury left-hander Whokill Poole had a big role in the win. He threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball.

The outcome was still in doubt with two out in the top of the third inning, but Poole was able to pitch out of a jam. With the bases loaded and Fort Hagen trailing 3-1, Poole retired Ginger Rogers, who grounded out.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury in Roxbury.

Game 7: Fort Hagen 0 at Roxbury 6

Roxbury Rad Sox Are Champs

Sometimes the winner is the one who got the lucky bounces and the lucky calls, and sometimes the winner is just the one who played better.

It was the latter case in 2303, as the Roxbury Rad Sox topped the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud 6-0 tonight at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury to win the Sole Survivor Series. It was the 1st title in franchise history.

"When you play for championships, you have to play better than the team in the other dugout. We did that in this series, and all year. Now we're the best team in baseball," said Roxbury left fielder Young Goodman, who was named series MVP.

The Rad Sox took the series 4-3. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the South Charles Association Railroad League and a 83-37 record.

Roxbury manager Coffee Kupp grinned and nodded when asked to comment on Goodman's words.

"Young said it best -- we played better than the other team," the skipper said.

Hometown officials announced they were already planning a "grand celebration" for the winners in the days to come.

Donn Mattingley was the game MVP. He was 3 for 4 with a double, home run, two runs scored, and three runs batted in.

Note: SP Nuke Laloosh was injured while pitching. He pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.

Yep, EIU, if that's your guess, I'm a bit confused by your metaphor but the E and I are there haha. The last time they were in was 2008... which is when I was 17... hence not my "adult life". We're not really big in sports, but we're where Jimmy Garoppolo came from. He's a friend of a friend from when I was on Student Government there.

Looks like it's not Fort Hagan's year, but I can't be sad, it went the distance and the Rad Sox are alright. At least when it comes to OOTP I have a soft spot for "Sox" teams even if everyone has to admit it's kind of a silly naming convention. The fact that many teams use it (or have used it historically in your universe) just triggers that "collectors urge" for me though, like the urge to promote the Silver Sox to MLB in a fresh save or collect every flavor of Nuka Cola

Just like any other team in the CBO, they are only as good as the wasteland allows! A few seasons ago, Goodneighbor looked to be stacked for the long haul but had a lot of bad luck in the rolls (some mine, mostly OOTP's) in their talent change randomness.

If talent change randomness were not a factor, their oldest position player is 26-year-old LF Young Goodman. All of their positon players are in that 22-26 range, with every position's starter rated as good or great by the scouts.

On the mound, Nuke Laloosh is only 22. Eugene Gym is 24, Whokill Poole is 23, and College Luckyman is 22. They do have three players over 30, all 34 years old: SP Gwinnett Southie, who is probably moving on, but did go 17-3 with a 2.66 ERA; CL Andy Helium; and RP Michael Thawt.

Their farm used to be a lot more prominent before all those dudes moved up. There is not much in the BMU and GBRL for now, but they do have the #2 prospect in C Sleve McDichael (2301, 4th overall). He could be trade bait if there are any hits in talent since they have 25-year-old, 59/59-rated C Biddy Swenson.

I was hoping that the Shroud could finally get theirs. They are now 0-3 and I am not sure how much longer that window will be open. They definitely need to consider being active in the offseason to see if they can boost some parts of their team, especially in the power game. Pawlak is a great player, but he should not lead the team in home runs with just 18.

Drumlin Diner Group Wins Bid to Relocate Warwick Mirelurks to Spectacle Island

The CBO announced today that the Drumlin Diner group, led by CEO Patrick Drumlin, has won the bid to relocate the struggling Warwick Mirelurks franchise to nearby Spectacle Island. This decision marks a new chapter for the franchise and brings hope to baseball enthusiasts across the region.

The Warwick Mirelurks, plagued by low attendance and an underpopulated settlement, are set to undergo a complete transformation under the guidance of the Drumlin Diner group. The relocation to Spectacle Island offers a unique opportunity for the team to reestablish its presence and engage with a broader audience. While the official team name is yet to be determined, Drumlin has hinted at possibilities that embrace the Commonwealth's charm.

The decision to choose Spectacle Island as the new home for the franchise was driven by Patrick Drumlin's vision of merging baseball with the serene island life. The proposed team, aptly named "The Nine on the Isle," will provide settlers and fans alike with an unparalleled experience, combining thrilling baseball action with the tranquility of the island's natural beauty.

"The Nine on the Isle" will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring a top-notch baseball experience for players and spectators. The Drumlin Diner group has already begun mobilizing resources and planning the construction of expanding the stadium currently occupied by the GBRL's Strength and the BYDL's Reapers, determined to deliver a venue that captures the essence of the sport while showcasing the island's unique charm.

The relocation to Spectacle Island signifies the first real franchise change in CBO history, and anticipation among settlement dwellers and baseball fans is at an all-time high. The CBO believes that this transformative move will rejuvenate the former Warwick Mirelurks franchise, attracting fans from all corners of the Commonwealth to visit the historic isle and establishing a renewed legacy for the team.

Patrick Drumlin and his group of investors is taking the new team name to the settlers on Spectacle Island. Drumlin has said that he is throwing in a homage to his business that he had passed on from his mother when she was ready to stop working and start relaxing in Diamond City. Therefore, the final six nicknames to be voted on by the islanders include:

Diners
Mirelurks
Patriots
Reapers
Specters
Radstorms

Final votes will be tallied in two months with the new name announced at the beginning of 2304.

The CBO eagerly anticipates working closely with the Drumlin Diner group to finalize the transition process and prepare for an exciting future for the franchise. With Spectacle Island as their backdrop, the franchise is poised to captivate the hearts of fans and bring a renewed spirit to baseball in the Commonwealth.

As we eagerly await the inaugural season of "The Nine on the Isle," the Commonwealth can celebrate this remarkable milestone and the beginning of a new era for the Warwick Mirelurks.

In addition to the move, there will be some moving around in other leagues due to the relocation. For example, the Spectacle Island team of the GBRL will be no more. Also, the Haymarket Mall location has been deemed to no longer be viable. Warwick will keep a team, but it will be in either the BMU or GBRL.

Ironically this post is like 100% a callout of how I manage teams haha. I guess the Shroud really is the team for me.
