I think it looks all right in the way the photo is presented, but as you remarked, the shadows on the face make it questionable to use for a portraiture.

UPDATE: I have received another image of Russell from a generous contributor. I have colorized it

While looking for an image of Wares to colorize, I stumbled across this article, regarding Wares' being involved in a very unusual trade. Any idea who the player pictured in the article could be? The uniform doesn't seem to match any that Wares would have worn.

Needless to say, I have seen this unusual transaction from another article... as well as the photo stating that belongs to Buzzy Ware... the ears and the nose look similar... maybe, the pros can shed better light than me...

He was a coach for the Cardinals from 1930-52; during the years when that picture could have been taken, he was obviously older than the player shown.
