Totally understand EC. Life happens and that’s more important than a baseball game. Best wishes and we’ll be waiting for the IPA’s return.

I'm back... took care of the business and also got to attend 5 minor league baseball games at the same time... can't believe I went to see a team with a such a goofy name... the Rocket City Trash Pandas (located in Madison, Alabama).. also saw the Louisville Bats, Salem Red Sox, Asheville Tourists and the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Had great weather... nice, cool and comfortable, very little humidity... saw some really good games... all 5 stadiums were really nice... even McCormick Field in Asheville, built in 1915... I think it was carved out of rock in a hillside... it is one of the oldest professional ballparks. Rocket City beat the Biloxi Shuckers 6-1... Louisville topped the Indianapolis Indians 9-5 on a walk-off grand slam in the 10th... the Lynchburg Hillcats edged the Salem Red Sox 5-4 in 10 innings... the Asheville Tourists whipped the Winston-Salem Dash 6-3... and Pensacola defeated the Biloxi Shuckers 5-2. Really great to be back!... there is no place like home! |

Rolling Hills captured the hard-earned series victory four games to three... the Racers will now take on the Southport Sun Sox in the Tycobbian Union Title Series... it will be the Claxton Diamonds and the Sligo Rovers in the Ruthlandian Union Finals. 2069 Tycobbian Union First-Round Series: Game 7 Attachment 793267 Attachment 793268 Attachment 793269 |

Thursday, October 10, 2069 IPA TITLE ROUNDS BEGIN THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON... RACERS HOST SUN SOX IN TU FINALS... DIAMONDS WELCOME ROVERS IN RU FINALS Three days off and then back to the IPA playoff wars... postseason round two begins this Sunday afternoon... it will be top-ranked Rolling Hills hosting second-ranked Southport in the Tycobbian Union Title Series and third-rated Claxton welcoming eighth pick Sligo in the Ruthlandian Union Title Series... these two series will set the stage for the IPA Pro Cup Series... the two winners of these best-of-seven series will meet for the prestigious Pro Cup Trophy, presented annually to the best professional baseball team in the Islands. Pro Cup favorite Rolling Hills has won 6 Pro Cups in its history... Southport has captured it 4 times... and Claxton and Sligo have each won the revered honor one time... the Racers were victorious in 2029, 2031, 2048, 2060, 2062 and 2067... the Sun Sox won it in 2044, 2047, 2065 and 2066... while the Diamonds reigned supreme in 2064 and the Rovers were IPA champions in 2021. Rolling Hills and Southport have tangled four times in the last eight seasons in the TU Finals... the Racers won in '68 and '62, the Sun Sox triumphed in '65 and '66... Claxton has reached this far three times since '64... they lost to Pro Cup titlist Forest City last season in the RU Finals and to Colfax in '65... in '64 the Diamonds won the Pro Cup, defeating Rolling Hills... Sligo's last appearance in the RU Finals was in '66 when they lost to Valmara. Most of the baseball pundits are trending toward Rolling Hills, followed closely by Southport and Claxton... this year's Pro Cup winner will most likely come from those three clubs... Sligo is the outlier and given little chance to be the overall IPA champion in 2069. 2069 Islandian Pro Alliance League Championship Series Outlook The Rolling Hills Racers are a formidable ballclub... most of the baseball soothsayers are favoring them this year... their high-octane attack gives them an advantage over the other three clubs... but the Racers can be beaten by teams with good pitching and a good offense... Southport certainly fits that scenario... the Racers have also been known to succumb to team with just good pitching... they lost in the Pro Cup Finals last year to the weak-hitting Forest City Firebirds... the Sun Sox have strong pitching and they can score runs, too... they also play better defense... the Pro Cup champion this year will probably come from the Tycobbian Union... flip a coin to pick the Tycobbian champion... both the Racers and the Sun Sox are evenly matched... Southport has a history of giving Rolling Hills trouble in the postseason... however, the Racers' mound corps may be better this year than in the past... give the series to Rolling Hills in 7 games. Neither Ruthlandian Union teams are highly regarded, especially the Sligo Rovers... they only won 82 games this season... they had the easiest task in the first round, the seventh-ranked Marston Nine... Sligo whipped them four games to two... but the Rovers just don't have the offense to handle the Claxton Diamonds... Claxton is a tough customer and should take the series in 6 games... strong pitching coupled with a solid attack should send the Diamonds to the Pro Cup Finals... Claxton took care of a good Taranto team in round one, taking four of the five games... the Tars were rated the fourth-best club in the IPA playoffs... look for the Diamonds to do well in the Pro Cup Series, too... they can hold their own with Rolling Hills and Southport. Saturday, October 12, 2069 RU, TU TITLES UPS FOR GRABS... CLAXTON AND ROLLING HILLS FAVORED The round of four is upon us in the Islandian Pro Alliance... the best-of-seven Ruthlandian Union and Tycobbian Union Title Series... all Islandians are focused on the final four teams that have so far fended off elimination in the postseason playoffs... tomorrow afternoon the unsung and unheralded Sligo Rovers will get another chance to upset a higher-rated team... the 8th-ranked Rovers take on the 3rd-rated Claxton Diamonds at Avalon Stadium in Claxton in the first game of the series... over in the TU Title Series, two juggernauts will do battle... Pro Cup favorite Rolling Hills will be at home at the Midtown Base Ball Grounds, playing host to their arch-nemesis, the 2nd-ranked Southport Sun Sox. Starters for the opening games will be right-hander Antoine Simon (14-7/2.50 ERA) for manager Les Patterson and his Sligo Rovers... Claxton skipper Abe Schiffman will send left-hander Mark Meisner (19-9/2.45 ERA) to the hill... Lorne Evans, Southport manager, will have Roman Littrell (19-8/3.26 ERA) on the mound, opposed by Coen Bock (10-2/2.72 ERA), chosen by Rolling Hills' skipper Billy Christianson. STAR-STUDDED SKIPPERS All of the managers starred in the IPA... Patterson (306-230/2.79 ERA) and Schiffman (238-177/3.70 ERA) stood out on the mound... Patterson is a Hall of Famer, while Schiffman is the all-time wins leader for the Rovers... Christianson and Evans are also in the IPA Hall of Fame... Christianson (.302 BA/258 HR/1446 RBI) was a standout third baseman, while Evans (.305 BA/701 HR/1836 RBI) was a slugging outfielder... all of them have excelled on the field and now they are very successful at the helm of their old teams as managers. Schiffman is the youngest at 53... Patterson is the oldest at 78... Christianson and Evans are both 64 years of age. Attachment 793789 Attachment 793790 |

Took three days off to go and see the new Texas stadium, Globe Life Field... My wife and I are now up-to-date on seeing all of the current ball parks... it has taken us about 15 years to see all 38 ballparks.
Ballpark Review: Not a beautiful ballpark in looks, just functional... not charming and quaint with special features like Baltimore, St. Louis, Seattle and several other parks... only saw one statue -- catcher Pudge Rodriguez... may have had others... great view of the field for watching a game, but the players are bigger in OOTPB... we were in the fifth level, right behind home plate... enclosed ballpark, thank goodness... temperature was a wonderful 72 degrees... instead of a hot and sunny 95 degrees... stadium was well-designed and fan-friendly... no long lines to get in... easier assess to concessions... lines were short, too... luckily it did not cost and arm-and-a-leg... tickets were just $7 each... special price... hot dogs just $1 for a small, but tasty hot dog... the bun was even toasted and warm... meat was warm... parking was outrageously expensive... the last time we went to see a game at the Ballpark in Arlington in 2003, we had to pay $10 to park and then had to walk a mile to the stadium... I swore I would never go back to see a Ranger game again... but my wife overruled me -- she wanted to go and see the new park and keep our record intact... we decided not to park in the $10 or $15 lots... and paid $25 to park within a block of the stadium... it was also easy to get out of the stadium even though there were about 35,000 fans in attendance... traffic was not bad at all when we left the parking lot... traffic moved smoothly. All in all, it was a good trip... while returning home, we stopped in Ville Platte, Louisiana... I got to visit Floyd's Record Shop... owned by Floyd Soileau... he had several record labels in the late 50s and 60s that had several huge worldwide hits... Sweet Dreams by Tommy McClain, This Could Go On Forever by Rod Bernard and Breaking Up is Hard to Do by Jivin' Gene... all the songs are known as "Swamp Pop", which is great dance music because of its old rock and roll beat... Swamp Pop is very popular in South Louisiana and in England, Germany and Western Europe... Floyd Soileau is still vibrant at age 82... he just happened to be at the record store and I got to talk to him in his office for about an hour... he was very gracious and I thoroughly enjoyed talking with him about the early days of rock-and-roll music... his labels were Jin and Swallow... Jin is his wife of 62 years... they will soon celebrate their wedding anniversary... Swallow is how you pronounce his name... Soileau in French is pronounced "swallow".... Floyd named the record company after the bird because it would be easier for non-French speakers and DJ's to pronounce. As a retired DJ, it was really special to talk with a legendary name from the early days of rock-and-roll music and swamp pop legend... if you are ever near Ville Platte and you like old rock-and-roll Swamp Pop and Cajun music, go and visit Floyd's Record Shop. (Special Thanks to Wikipedia) Floyd Soileau was born in Faubourg, a small community between Ville Platte and Washington, Louisiana. He grew up speaking Cajun French and did not speak English until attending school at the age of 6 years.[1] In his junior year of high school, he did an afternoon Cajun music show as a part-time job with KVPI radio in Ville Platte. After graduating from Ville Platte High School in 1956, he opened a small record store, Floyd's Record Shop and discovered that although people were still interested in them, Cajun French records were no longer being produced. With the financial help of a friend, Ed Manuel (a juke box operator from Mamou, Louisiana), who wanted new French records for his juke boxes, Floyd released his first record on the Big Mamou label by artists Austin Pitre and Milton Molitor. In 1957 Lawrence Walker and Aldus Roger helped Floyd launch his own label, Swallow Records. Over the past 40 years, Swallow Records has released 265 45rpm single records and 151 albums of Cajun French music, including recordings by Adam Hebert, Belton Richard, Dewey Balfa and the Balfa Brothers, Nathan Abshire, Jambalaya Cajun Band, Paul Daigle & Cajun Gold, D.L. Menard, and many more, plus recordings by the Cajun French story teller, Marion Marcotte. 1958 saw the beginning of Jin Records with artists such as Clint West, Tommy McLain & the Boogie Kings, Lil' Bob & The Lollipops, Warren Storm, Skip Stewart, Rockin' Sidney, Rod Bernard, Johnny Allan and others making significant contributions to what was the, then, controversial swamp pop music. In 1975 he established his Maison de Soul record label, devoted to Creole and Zydeco music, including artists such as Clifton Chenier, Rockin' Dopsie, Keith Frank, Chris Ardoin, Zydeco Force, Jeffery Brousard, and others. He has always encouraged his artists to compose new songs to record, and his Flat Town Music Company now publishes over 2800 songs, a majority of which are Cajun, swamp pop, and zydeco songs. His Swallow Publications has published two books on the Cajun French language, Cajun Dictionary and Cajun Self-taught, both by Rev. Jules Daigle, and Jeff Hannusch's I Hear You Knockin', the story of early New Orleans rhythm and blues. He operated Swallow Recording Studios in Ville Platte for over 15 years, and sold his last studio in 1975 to Ronnie Kole, who moved the studio to Slidell, Louisiana. That year he opened a vinyl record pressing plant and printing company for LP record jackets and labels, the only such facility in Louisiana. The plant closed in 1994. Eventually, the store would close but the online mail order business still continues. In 1959, he married his high school sweetheart Jinver Ortego. Rockin' Sidney and "Don't Mess With My Toot Toot"... Floyd Soileau produced this song. "My Toot Toot" has been covered by many artists including Fats Domino, Rosie Ledet, Jean Knight, Terrance Simien, Doug Kershaw, Denise LaSalle, Jimmy C. Newman, John Fogerty and Jello Biafra. Other versions include Louisiana Zydeco accordionist and singer Fernest Arceneaux, British-Jamaican television personality Rustie Lee, the Swedish dansband Lasse Stefanz and Irish country singer Mike Denver. Denise LaSalle's version was a big hit in the UK, peaking at #6 in 1985[6] and number 76 in Australia. Other language covers A Spanish version by La Sonora Dinamita titled "Mi Cucu" sold over a million copies in Mexico, Central America, and South America. |
If you like music, here are the four songs I mentioned that were produced by Floyd Soileau.
Sweet Dreams by Tommy McClain... ranked 15th on Billboard chart in 1966. Swamp Pop classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLvV258whz0 |
This Should Go On Forever by Rod Bernard
Ranked #20 in 1959 on the Billboard Top 40... and #12 on the Billboard Rhythm and Blues chart. Swamp Pop classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3Wt0bu86ms |
Breaking Up is Hard to Do by Jivin' Gene
Ranked 69th on Billboard chart in 1960, but was a big hit in New Orleans and Houston... Top 10 in both areas. Considered a Swamp Pop classic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fnRWPA_a0M |
Don't Mess with My Toot Toot by Rockin' Sidney.
Charted on Billboard Country chart for 18 weeks in 1985... for a brief moment Rockin' Sidney made musical history... it was the first zydeco song to receive major airplay on pop, rock and country radio stations... later in 1985, "My Toot Toot" was certified platinum and won the 1986 Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording... "My Toot Toot" became a national and international million-selling phenomenon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGnu3GdUna8 |

Saturday, October 19, 2069 CLASSIC DUEL SET FOR IPA PRO CUP SERIES BETWEEN ROLLING HILLS AND CLAXTON In Islandian Pro Alliance circles it may not get any better than this: the Rolling Hills Racers going up against the Claxton Diamonds... the two dynasties have been dominating for the last decade... the Racers are on a streak of 10 pennants in a row, while the Diamonds have copped 7 pennants in succession... Rolling Hills has been the overall IPA champion 3 times in the last decade... they have also lost in the Pro Cup Finals on 2 occasions in recent years... Claxton has won the Pro Cup Trophy one time in recent memory... they upset the Racers in a sizzling 7-game series in 2064... now the two arch-rivals are back at it... the Pro Cup Series will get started this Wednesday at the Midtown Ball Grounds in Rolling Hills... the Racers posted a 97-57 record this season, the best in the IPA... they will possess the homefield advantage... the Diamonds went 90-64 to take the division crown... Rolling Hills will be seeking their 7th Pro Cup Trophy, while Claxton will be trying to win its second. This season Claxton has had the easier path to the Pro Cup Finals... they have won 8 of 9 games, beating Taranto in 5 games and sweeping Sligo in 4 straight... while the Racers are 8-5 in the postseason playoffs and sweated out wins both rounds against South Fork and Southport... they skimmed by the Stallions 4 games to 3 and nicked the Sun Sox 4 games to 2... both series were in doubt and could have gone the other way. Due to its standout hitting Rolling Hills is the Pro Cup favorite... manager Billy Christianson is depending on his bats to win another Pro Cup trophy, coupled with improved pitching, while Claxton skipper Abe Schiffman is banking his mound staff has what it takes to whip the Racers... Rolling Hills is the best-hitting team in Islandian Pro Alliance history... Claxton is not as prolific at the plate as the Racers, but they always seem to come up with enough runs to win the game... they do not totally rely on its pitching corps... the Diamonds are a well-rounded ballclub. Claxton pitching has been superb in the playoffs... the Diamonds have posted a 1.75 ERA in its 8 games, while its offense has batted .247 with 6 homers and scored 45 runs in 9 games against some very good pitching. Rolling Hills is also hitting .247 against some strong postseason pitching with 10 roundtrippers and 53 runs in 13 games... the Racers have been solid on the hill, too, with a fine 2.53 ERA against good-hitting teams. Defensively the two clubs are fairly equal... during the regular season Rolling Hills chalked up a .978 FA and Claxton a .979 FA... but Racers do turn more double play than the Diamonds. 2069 Islandian Pro Alliance Pro Cup Series Forecast: Looking at the stats, Rolling Hills is the superior team and should win the series in 7 games... it all come down to the starting pitchers and the bullpens... who is the best?... Rolling Hills' Carl Lindell, Durrell MacLeod, Coen Bock and Charley Clutterbuck or Claxton's Mark Meisner, Russell Krohn, Shelly Grice and Marv Douglas?... or relievers Brownie Ashmore and Chris Malbrough for the Racers or Matt Goodrum and Alvie London for the Diamonds?... the Racers don't have a stopper like Meisner... he is a level up from all the other starters, a future Hall of Famer... Krohn and Grice may be the difference... should they do well, Claxton will be the IPA champion... the winner of the Pro Cup Series will need good work from the bullpen, too... so far, neither team's bullpen has done well this postseason... after all is said and done, Rolling Hills is aging, lots of players in their mid 30s... the offense is not what it was... they only batted .282 this year, down from over .300 in 2066, 2067 and 2068... but the Racers do have better pitching than in the last few years... some of Claxton's key players are up in age as well... this year is the time to win the Pro Cup for both teams... they will soon be on the decline... but this should be a great series... give it to Claxton... their pitching will win it... probably in 6 games... Rolling Hills never plays as well as its reputation and they have a tendency to lose games they shouldn't... still the Racers are one of my all-time favorite team in IPA history... personally, I hope both teams are just crowned co-champions... just end the season with the Pro Cup Series tied at three games each and declare it a tie... now that would be poetic justice... just like a Hollywood script... the Racers and the Diamonds could ride off into the sunset arm and arm and sharing the renown and much-revered Islandian Pro Cup Trophy... that is the way life is in Islandia... it's a perfect world. |
