As a Reds fan, I thought they were some awful throwback uni! Reds are wearing 15 of them his year, so I am used to seeing odd unis on the Reds when I check the score.
|
I hope Pete does not homer today, lest we have to watch the replay of him doing it while wearing an oversized sanitary napkin for the rest of our lives. He'll hit #42 without problem eventually. But wear a proper uniform, boy!
|
There are some bad uni's out there during the season but these all whites are absolutely the worst I have ever seen. If you're at the game they are indecipherable.
Send them to Wimbledon! |
Congratulations to Alonso but it's hard to fathom that no Met has ever hit 42 or more home runs in one season. I'm trying to think of the big boppers that they have had . . . Delgado, Strawberry, Piazza, Kingman . . . none of these guys ever hit 42 home runs?
EDIT: Interesting, I didn't think of the two men whom Alonso just passed at 41 (I looked it up): Beltran (2006) and Hundley (1996) |

PEEEEEEEEEEEEETE!!!
The rest of the game was unfortunately just utter dog ****. And that Stroman deal is looking better and better every week. |
I declare this playoff case over.

That 10-4 lead going in to the top of the 9th was looking pretty good... Some fine work there by Sewald, Avilan, and Diaz...

Time to embrace my inner Westheim.
Fire Callaway now. Fire Brodie now. Send the friggin' Wilpon$ to the moon. This team is straight trash. |
I'm calm.
|
I came by the forum before, saw that Westheim had posted, but figured I would stop by later to read it. Then I went to my local newspaper's online outlet and in Sports, I read this headline: "Epic bullpen meltdown sinks Mets in loss to Nationals." I was then that I knew. :(
|
I could not watch this one, not even from the archives, and just reading the box score usually does not get me all up in arms (although Callaway is and remains a royal idiot that should be thrown to the lions). If I had actually seen it, I probably would have gone berzerk, after which I would have sat on the floor in the middle of my destroyed apartment, proclaiming (unconvincingly) to be calm.
But it's a day game massacre today, yaaay ...! |
Heh, I'm home today, the Yankees play later, and sorry, even the Mets are more interesting to me than U.S. Open tennis, Arkansas-Pine Bluff at TCU, or Bundesliga Soccer.
So I go looking for the Mets game. The SNY local sports network? No. Channel 11 PIX? No. What? Don't tell me they're on ESPN at this time of day? No. I give up. But then I think a bit later: I just heard them on the radio (I went out for a bit on errands), so the game is live. They don't rebroadcast games on radio. Where the heck is the darned game?!? The last place I thought of looking: YouTube! |
Well, that has to be somewhat of a consolation to you guys - nice comeback win. Here's a key: You didn't need that crappy Diaz at all today.
EDIT: Here, I'll cheer youse up a bit more. They generally leave these games up and available on YouTube after they are over. Here is the link to today's game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzVSQJFoZHI At about the -1:36 mark (they count time backwards - that's how much time is left in the video), they have this skit with Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil interviewing to be All-Stars. It's funny! EDIT 2: Never mind the game clip (which is truncated). I subsequently found the entire video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s-YqTpVMKU |

An interesting moment in that YouTube telecast. They showed this graphic first:
Attachment 646558 Then the announcer said, "But there are a few things that have gone right; we'll show you in a moment." However, some time and baseball action passes. Finally, one of the other guys says, "How many pitches does Brodie have to wait until we get to what he did good?" [Snickering laughter] They finally showed this: Attachment 646557 |
I was locked out from the game, which was only available in the US/Canada. I left a kind remark under their ****-ass MLB on Youtube promotion that kindly hinted at Google apparently having blown more money up Rob Numbfred's ****ing lard ass than I do with my long-time annual MLB.tv subscription - that comment has doubtlessly been deleted by now - and will continue to fume for another couple of days.
And then the internet cut out more or less entirely here, so I couldn't do anything but play my dynasty in offline mode. BUT THAT DOESN'T MAKE THE FIRST WRONG RIGHT!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: |

Turns out, as per something I caught in the comments of Faith and Fear in Flushing per something Howie Rose said on Mets radio (so it's more or less hearsay at this point), that the only Mets pitcher with at least X innings and a higher HR/9 rate than Boom-Boom Diaz was...?
