Uniforms Revisited

SCYL

Well, heck. I forgot that there were some other changes that I needed to input on January 1, so not all teams are accurate. I have kind of lost track of some of the changes since I wrote some down in a notebook and then edited some old instead of current Excel sheets. Therefore, I am going to rework my minor league files and correct them before I begin the 2308 season.

Originally I made a 2306 minors update Excel and a 2310 (assumed expansion) reconfiguration. I just noticed yesterday that I had been updating the wrong minors (one from years ago that still had Warwick and Abernathy in the CBO), so I am confused which minors are supposed to be where. There will be a February 2308 news story that updates all this!

Commonwealth News

The Boston Commonwealth celebrated progress today as metro lines are reported to be nearly ready for business. Gusver Nomenclature, one of the leads of Project Metro, stated today that live testing of the rails will begin this week with expected regular traffic flow by April 1.

The Boston Metro's Blue Line is considered to be fully ready with the Yellow Line set to open next year and the Red Line to open in 2310. The Blue Line is the longest of the planned lines with 10 total stops, from Lynn all the way to the Edge of the Glowing Sea. Other stops moving south from Lynn are Revere, Easy Town, Goodneighbor, two other Downtown stops, Diamond City, Roxbury, and then near Vault 95.

CBO's Minors Get Reworked

Another major development was CBO commissioner Nate Howard announcing a reshuffling of minor league affiliations in the MML, BMU, and GBRL leagues with several teams moving up or down the ranks based on population data and some new teams.

The four sites of the upcoming CBO expansion teams--the Glowing Sea, Cambridge, Malden, and South Boston (taking the place of Goodneighbor, which is moving back to its own neighborhood)--are now considered to be in their final preparation stages, so all four minor league teams have been relocated.

Here is a look at how teams will be aligned with their parent clubs and league divisions:

Preseason Nuka Cup Tourney to Begin on March 1

The 2308 Nuka Cup Tournament will begin on March 1 with the Nordhagen Beach, Roxbury, County Crossing, and Jamaica Plain regionals. This season, there is no host site, so the tournament teams will be on the move to different locations.

The first portion of the tournament will again feature a Round Robin tournament where all six teams in a regional play each other in three-game sets. The top two teams in each regional will again face off in the Quarterfinals, with survivors moving to the Semifinals, and then the tournament concludes with the final two teams playing in the Finals. All will be three-game sets with the team winning the series being declared the victor. The tournament commences on March 28. Roxbury has won the last three Nuka Cups.

Spring Training games begin on March 29 with a final warmup for which 25 players will make the CBO roster for each team. Regular season games begin on April 7.

Regionals:

Nordhagen Beach: Party Boys, Spectacle Island, Starlight, Egret, The Slog, and Goodneighbor

Jamaica Plain: Red Rockets, Easy Town, Quincy, Salem, Diamond City, and Lexington

Roxbury: Rad Sox, Sunshine Tidings, Oberland, Nahant, Vault 81, and Concord

2308 Nuka Cup Tournament Begins

The 2308 Nuka Cup Tournament has just finished its first week. Let's break down the series results of each series with a few discussions about each. Numbers below are series wins results, not scores.

Nordhagen Beach Regional

Nordhagen Beach 3, Goodneighbor 0
Spectacle Island 2, The Slog 1
Starlight 2, Egret 1
The Slog 3, Nordhagen Beach 0
Egret 2, Spectacle Island 1
Starlight 3, Goodneighbor 0

The Party Boys had no problem disposing of the Hancocks at home but then got swept at their BL mates, the Ghouls. Starlight emerged as the only team to go 2-0 in the first two series, giving the Killers the early advantage in winning the regional. Goodneighbor did not win a game yet, making them of just a few teams to start the 2308 season 0-6.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1712332839

Jamaica Plain Regional

Jamaica Plain 3, Lexington 0
Easy Town 2, Diamond City 1
Salem 2, Quincy 1
Jamaica Plain 2, Diamond City 1
Salem 2, Easy Town 1
Quincy 3, Lexington 0

Both top-seeded Jamaica Plain and #4 Salem started out 2-0 in their series, with those teams scheduled to play in the first series next week for the early right to first place. Meanwhile, both the Swatters and Synths are in the position where they need to win the rest of the series and get some help. Lexington is one of the teams to begin 0-6.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1712332839

Roxbury Regional

Roxbury 3, Concord 0
Sunshine Tidings 3, Vault 81 0
Oberland 3, Nahant 0
Vault 81 2, Roxbury 1
Nahant 2, Sunshine Tidings 1
Oberland 3, Concord 0

All three of the top seeds swept their first series, but both the Rad Sox and Chemists lost their next series, meaning a four-way tie for 2nd place at 1-1. The T-51s, however, are the only team to begin 6-0 with sweeps of both the Celtics and Radstags. Concord is one of the three teams to begin 0-6.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1712332839

County Crossing Regional

County Crossing 2, FHE 1
University Point 2, Fort Hagen 1
Bunker Hill 2, Atom 1
Fort Hagen 2, County Crossing 1
University Point 2, Atom 1
FHE 2, Bunker Hill 1

No team was able to pull off a sweep in this regional with the #2 Deathclaws the only team to go 2-0 in their series, while #4 Atom is in need of series wins the rest of the way.

2308 Nuka Cup Tournament Has Thrilling Second Week

Each team has now played 12 exhibition games for the 2308 Nuka Cup Tournament, and we have some results starting to come in. Only two of the eight Quarterfinals Round slots have been claimed, while 11 teams already know that their next series will be their last until Spring Training week begins on March 31.

Nordhagen Beach Regional

Nordhagen Beach 2, Egret 1
Spectacle Island 3, Starlight 0
The Slog 2, Goodneighbor 1
Starlight 2, Nordhagen Beach 1
Goodneighbor 2, Spectacle Island 1
The Slog 2, Egret 1

The Slog takes over 1st place with the best overall record. Both the Ghouls and Killers are now 3-1 with a matchup in the final Round Robin Series to determine which team lays claim to the Nordhagen Beach Regional. The Reapers are still alive for the chance as the 2nd seed, but they must win the series over Nordhagen Beach to do so.

The Party Boys, Egret, and Goodneighbor are all eliminated. The Boys could finish 3-2 and tied for 2nd place, but they would lose the tiebreaker to both the Ghouls and Killers.

Scenarios:

The Slog wins the regional with a series win over Starlight. They would be 2nd place if they lose and the Party Boys defeat the Reapers.

Starlight wins the regional with a series win over Starlight. They would be 2nd place if they lose and the Party Boys defeat the Reapers.

Spectacle Island clinches 2nd place with a series win over the Boys.

Jamaica Plain Regional

Jamaica Plain 2, Salem 1
Easy Town 3, Quincy 0
Diamond City 3, Lexington 0
Quincy 2, Jamaica Plain 1
Lexington 2, Easy Town 1
Salem 2, Diamond City 1

The Red Rockets and Witch Hats still remain 1 and 2 this week, despite both going 1-1. Easy Town and Quincy are both still alive at 2-2. Diamond City and Lexington are eliminated.

Scenarios:

The Rockets clinch the regional with a series win over the Assaultrons. They can be 2nd place with a series loss, a Witch Hats series loss, and a Gunners series loss.

Salem clinches the regional with a series win over the Synths and a Jamaica Plain series loss to Easy Town. They can clinch 2nd place with a series losses by both the Assautrons and Gunners. They could also clinch through tiebreakers based on final results in the 5th matchup.

Easy Town clinches 1st place with a series sweep of the Red Rockets and a Hats series loss. They can clinch 2nd place through a series of tiebreakers but must win their series.

Quincy cannot clinch 1st place. They could clinch 2nd place through a series of tiebreakers and a series sweep of Lexington.

Roxbury Regional

Roxbury 3, Nahant 0
Oberland 2, Sunshine Tidings 1
Concord 2, Vault 81 1
Roxbury 2, Oberland 1
Sunshine Tidings 3, Concord 0
Vault 81 2, Nahant 1

The Rad Sox took over 1st place with the series win over the T-51s, which had started 3-0. Sunshine Tidings and Vault 81 stand at 2-2, with both Nahant and Concord eliminated with a 1-3 record.

Scenarios:

Roxbury clinches 1st place with a series win over the Chemists. They could also clinch 1st place or 2nd place with a series loss and events that would leave a four-way tie for 1st place and certain three-way tie scenarios.

Oberland would clinch the regional with a series win over the Dwellers and a Sox series loss. The T-51s could clinch 2nd place with a series loss and events that would leave a four-way tie for 1st place and certain three-way tie scenarios.

Sunshine Tidings clinches 1st place with a series win over the Sox and a Vault 81 series win over the T-51s. They could clinch 2nd place with a series win over Roxbury and an Oberland series win. They could also clinch 1st or 2nd place through various tiebreaker scenarios, but would probably have to sweep the Rad Sox.

Vault 81 likely cannot clinch 1st place due to tiebreaker results in a four-way tie scenario since they were swept by the Chemists. However, they could clinch 2nd place with a series win and a Roxbury series win. They could also clinch 2nd place with a sweep of the T-51s and winning tiebreakers in a four-way tie situation.

County Crossing Regional

County Crossing 2, Atom 1
University Point 2, Bunker Hill 1
FHE 2, Fort Hagen 1
County Crossing 2, Bunker Hill 1
University Point 2, FHE 1
Atom 2, Fort Hagen 1

Despite the tight race after the first week, two teams have now clinched a spot in the Quarterfinals in this regional, the only two spots clinched. The Deathclaws are the only undefeated team through four series at 4-0, which puts them at 1st place over the Bloodbugs who are 3-1. County Crossing has the tiebreaker over 2-2 FHE, so that means the Yao Guai, Atom, Bunker Hill, and Fort Hagen are all eliminated.

Scenarios:

This one is simple. In the Claws-Bugs series, the winner takes 1st place in the regional and the loser takes 2nd place.

2308 Nuka Cup Tournament Round Robin Comes to an End

All five series of the Round Robin Round have come to an end, and eight teams remain, the top two of each regional. Those teams will now move on to the Quarterfinals Round, with winners moving on to the Semifinals and Finals. This year, there will also be a 3rd Place Series, so the two losing teams in the Semifinals will play one more preseason series.

Nordhagen Beach Regional

Nordhagen Beach 3, Spectacle Island 0
The Slog 2, Starlight 1
Goodneighbor 3, Egret 0

The Ghouls did the unlikely, clinching the Norrdhagen Beach Regional as the 5th seed. Also, thanks to the Boys' series win over the Reapers, the Killers move on as the 2nd-place team despite their series loss.

Jamaica Plain Regional

Jamaica Plain 2, Easy Town 1
Quincy 2, Diamond City 1
Lexington 2, Salem 1

The #1 seed Red Rockets took care of business, clinching the Jamaica Plain Regional and eliminating last season's #1 seed in the NCA in the playoffs, the Assaultrons. Also, with Easy Town's loss, the Witch Hats clinched 2nd place as the #4 seed since they owned the tiebreaker over Quincy.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1712429414

Roxbury Regional

Roxbury 3, Sunshine Tidings 0
Oberland 2, Vault 81 1
Concord 2, Nahant 1

Both the Rad Sox and T-51s won their series, meaning they both finished 4-1 atop the Roxbury Regional. SInce the Sox beat Oberland, Roxbury is the 1st-place team and Oberland is in 2nd.

County Crossing Regional

University Point 3, County Crossing 0
Bunker Hill 3, Fort Hagen 0
FHE 2, Atom 1

The Deathclaws won every series, making them the 1st-place team in the County Crossing Regional. The Bloodbugs had already clinched a Quarterfinals Round berth, so getting swept only meant that they will be on the road in their next series.

The Ghouls' Isaiah Swindler became their second-straight pitcher to earn Game MVP honors, allowing just two earned runs in 6.0 innings. The Slog completed the sweep in Game 3, this time with the efforts of their catcher Silvam Fourteen who went 2 for 3 with two doubles, a sacrifice fly, and three RBI.

He also scored twice and walked twice. In Game 2, the Rad Sox evened the series thanks to their own seven-run 8th inning to overcome a 4-1 deficit. Despite the loss, County Crossing's Cy Thompson was named Game MVP after going 3 for 4 with two home runs, a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI. In Game 3, Babs Rooth's big power day propelled the Bugs to the Semifinals Round. Rooth was 4 for 5 with three home runs, four runs scored, and four RBI.

Quarterfinals: Oberland 2 at University Point 1
Game 1: UP 9-1

Whipple pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run and seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Hirshfield was Game MVP, going 3 for 3 with a double, a home run, a walk, two runs, and two RBI. In Game 2, the T-51s enjoyed an offensive explosion with the highest run total in the Quarterfinals. Rookie Chris Fencebuster hit a pinch-hit grand slam that was a part of 10 runs scored in the final three innings. In Game 3, the teams finally played a tight one, with Oberland coming out on top to advance to the Semifinals. The T-51s trailed 3-0 entering the 4th inning, but Chase Doctorman hit a three-run blast to tie the game. Oberland's Stormin Normin MacDonald then hit a solo home run in the 5th for what proved to be the winning run.

Semifinals: The Slog 1 at Jamaica Plain 2
Game 1: JP 7-6
Game 2: Slog 9-7
Game 3: JP 5-1

The Red Rockets held off a late offensive surge by The Slog to take Game 1 by a run. Jake Doucette earned another Game MVP award, going 2 for 5 with a double, a home run, three runs scored, and two RBI. The Slog pulled out all the stops in Game 2, scoring nine runs in the first four innings, including seven in the first two, to cruise to a victory. Sometimes forgotten Ghouls legend, Boots Yellowhair, was Game MVP, going 3 for 5 with a home run, a run, and three RBI. The Rockets clinched the series in Game 3 thanks to a solid game by SP Derek Green. In the complete game, Green allowed one earned run on five hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. The win moved the Rockets to the Finals.

Semifinals: Oberland 2 at County Crossing 1
Game 1: CC 6-0

Orcin Cardinal was 3 for 3 with a double, a home run, two runs, and two RBI. In Game 3, Oberland again got a solid outing by its starter, with Emperry Alizm allowing just three earned runs in 8.0 innings. Season Pass Tournament Concludes; Echo Lake Takes Title

The #2 Echo Lake Harbormen of the Vim! League won their second-straight Season Pass Tournament and third overall, defeating the NWL's #13 Dark Bloodworms, 10-2, in the final game. The Harbormen won the tournament in 2307 as the #7 seed, defeating #10 Quantum in the winner-take-all final, 7-4.

Cory Slone pitched 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Trombone Jones pitched the final two innings for the Harbormen.

Several players batted well for Echo Lake, racking up 15 total hits in the ballgame off Dark starter Hardware Flott and reliever Sky Farwalk. Witcher Craft led the way for the Harbormen, going 4 for 5 with two runs scored. Chris Knickerbocker doubled twice and Jason Eisch homered.

The Bloodworms only managed six hits with a third coming from Allen Burmaster, including an RBI. Nick Lowe's RBI double accounted for the other Dark run.

Echo Lake, the #2 overall seed as the runners-up in the 2307 Season Pass Series, went undefeated in the tournament. They defeated #15 Wild 8-1, #10 Cranberry Isle 10-3, #6 Dalton Farm 5-3, #13 Dark 3-1, and then #13 Dark again, 10-2.

The Bloodworms advanced through the Winner's Bracket through a series of upsets, all as the road team. They beat #4 Far Harbor 10-7, #5 Victory 11-8, and #1 Cherry 8-6 before losing to the Harbormen. They then had their one and only game as the home team, defeating #7 Orange, 3-2, to advance back to the championship. Dark would have needed to defeat Echo Lake twice.

Teams are now set for the 2308 season with the Vim! League teams making brief stops in the Boston area before returning to Mount Desert Island in early April. Both leagues begin their Spring Training schedule on Monday, April 13.

Oberland Takes 2308 Nuka Cup Tournament Title

The Oberland T-51s defeated the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 2 games to 1, to win the 9th Nuka Cup Tournament title. This marks the first title for the T-51s and the first team not named Roxbury to win the tournament since Atom's victory in 2304.

Game 1: Oberland 7 at Jamaica Plain 1

Mesquite Williams pitched a complete game, allowing just one earned run on six hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts. Good Don Duck and Racky Westheim each had two hits and two RBI in the game. Westheim homered. The T-51s pulled away with a five-run 8th inning.

County Crossing Sweeps The Slog for Third Place

The Slog enjoyed their success to get all the way to the Semifinals, but all their luck stopped there. County Crossing easily took care of the Ghouls in all three games: 10-8, 5-4, and 4-3.

The Bugs' Taygun Topaloglu looks to be the preseason champion, hitting out of this world in the preseason tournament. He will be looking to build himself back from last season when his batting average had a significant drop from the previous season (.339 to .264), nearly 40 points below his career average.

Freshmen to Watch in 2308

With the beginning of the Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference, let us not forget that the youth leagues still have a lot to offer in amateur ball. This season features another group of talented young freshmen that we at BNN will be keeping our eye on to see where they may land in the 2311 Rookie Draft. Here are a few we are excited to watch:

The Babz Twins, RF Eden Babz and LF Esau Babz, Weymouth - Already giving the Weymouth Locksmiths of the BYDL an unfair advantage, twins Eden and Esau Babz are talented young outfielders with the talent and smarts to play at the next level. While currently projected to play in right field with senior Rusty Nukalurk manning CF, Eden is a speedster who should be able to steal a lot of bases and run down a lot of fly balls. Esau is more of the power hitter, having high potential for generating lots of home runs, though he is not as fast on the base paths. Eden is the vocal leader, while Esau likes to keep to himself. Both are rated as swing happy, meaning they may strike out more often than they should when not waiting for their right pitch.

SP Gobbler Core, Diamond City The newest starting pitcher for the Newsboys, Core may need to add more pitches to his repertoire in time. For now, he has a well-placed fastball in the lower 90s and a sinker that hitters cannot lay off. His changeup still needs some work, but it should be effective enough at the youth league level. Core is expected to be the #1 starter for Diamond City.

3B Nathan Done, Dennis - Short and squatty, Done has the body build to murder baseballs with his genuine Swatter for the SCYL's Menaces. He stays low to the ground in his stance and drives baseballs. Done will need to work on handling outside pitches, but the switch hitter can be a nightmare in time for all pitchers who leave anything up in the zone.

SS Brandon Larsonist, Freeplat - While he is working on his defense a lot to be a contributor as a freshman, Larsonist may already have the raw batting talent to be an everyday player for the Wicked Goods of the SCYL. Larsonist will be a decent contact hitter, but he could improve to one of the CBO's premier power-hitting shortstops.

SP Sheldon Mayoral, Chatham - The Lighthouse expected ace either now or later, Mayoral already has a blazing mid-90s fastball with good movement. Coupled with his strong splitter and an efficient changeup, Mayoral may find success early for the SCYL's Lighthouse. Mayoral has two good senior starters on his Chatham team, Lucas Frost and Minny Vike, so he may not be under a lot of pressure to be the star right away.

CL Buzzcut McDonald, Hester - He is projected to start his freshman year as the closer for the Mechanists of the BYDL, but McDonald has the chance to develop into a CBO ace one day. He mostly comes in with two effective pitches, a low-to-mid 90s fastball and a 12-6 curve. However, he has been working on a cutter and changeup while he also is working to get more natural movement to his pitches. We are interested to see what talented Coach Want Moreno does with him.

SP Jared Porch, Freeplat - Another talented freshman with the Wicked Goods, Porch already has an array of five pitches, four of which he is rated as effective with. His changeup is his 5th pitch but Freeplat coaches may ask him to drop it. Still, Porch already throws in the mid-90s and has all the tools to develop into a CBO ace one day. The Freeplat pitching staff is inexperienced, though, so Porch may be asked to be the ace or 2nd pitcher behind sophomore Travis Stonewall early.

SS Brass Well, GSP - The shortstop for the Glowing Sea Prep Venom, Well is a rangy shortstop who knows how to anticipate where a batter will put it. He has the potential to be a good all-around hitter, though he will probably never be at the top of hitting statistics. Well is expected to get every opportunity to contribute early for the Venom.

CBO Predictions

The 2308 season is ready to commence later today, and the always trusty PAM has come up with predictions. Interestingly, PAM has analyzed data and has simulated playoff possibilities. This is what we know.

PAM's expected playoff seedings:

NCA
1. Starlight
2. County Crossing
3. Sunshine Tidings
4. Easy Town
5. Bunker Hill

SCA
1. Roxbury
2. University Point
3. Oberland
4. Jamaica Plain
5. Spectacle Island

PAM's playoff predictions:
NCA: Easy Town over County Crossing
SCA: University Point over Roxbury
SSS: University Point over Easy Town

Looking at PAM's predictions, she has ties galore. In the BL, both the Assaultrons and the defending champions, Nordhagen Beach, are expected to tie for 2nd place, but PAM has the Trons earning the tiebreaker in this scenario, pushing the Party Boys out of the playoffs.

In the IL, PAM also has a tie for 2nd place with Bunker Hill and Sunshine Tidings, but the tiebreaker is in favor of the Chemists. Regardless, the top three teams are expected to be day to the bottom three in the IL's night. Former playoff regulars, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud is expected to be the NCA's worst team.

In the ML, the Deathclaws and Red Rockets are expected to battle for 1st place, while the Gunners and Reapers are picked to tie for 3rd place. PAM gives the advantage to Spectacle Island for that tie and thus the playoff bid.

In the RL, Oberland and Roxbury are predicted to tie for 1st with the Rad Sox gaining the edge in the tiebreaker. Vault 81 is the only other team predicted to be above .500 but still just short of a playoff bid.

The best players are the usual suspects, the four most talented players in the CBO: Babs Rooth, Beachboy Nut, Barker Cocoa, and Nuke Laloosh. Other offensive competitors in the NCA for the Nuka Hitter Award are Zeldolph Violet, Ross Merchantman, and Jonathan Angelou. SCA competitors are Orcin Cardinal, Ken Debate, and Chris Hirshfield.

For pitchers, player expected to compete with Nut are Digger Vadim, Jason Tonelli, and Jalep Temper. In the SCA, competitors are expected to be Exxie Summerset, Emperry Alizm, and Mesquite Williams.

CBO Top Players

CBO Top Prospects

Looking at the CBO's top prospects, several are going to be Day 1 CBO players, meaning they are competing rookies instead of prospects. Just in case they are sent back to the minors, here are the Top 5 and the 2308 outlook:

1. Gavin Deux-Gas, SS, The Slog (CBO) - Deux-Gas, the #2 overall pick in the 2306 draft, played at all three levels of the minors in 2307 for the Ghouls. At the top level with the Burlington Ferals (MML), Deux-Gas hit .398 with nine home runs and 23 RBI in just 29 games. He can play pretty much any position but catcher and will be one of The Slog's best hitters.

2. Kilometers Davis, 1B, The Slog (BMU) - The 4th-overall pick in the 2304 draft, Davis traded away and then traded back to the Ghouls. While he has yet to play above the BMU in his three-year career, Davis started to look as though he is not too far from CBO-ready. In 44 games with 39 starts at Mass Pike, where he will start this season, Davis hit .295 with nine home runs and 33 RBI.

3. Jacob Tarberry, 1B, Nahant (CBO) - The 6th pick in the 2306 draft, Tarberry was drafted as a 3B but can get time right away at 1B for the Celtics. In 88 games started for the Brockton Irish of the BMU in 2307, Tarberry batted .384 with 57 home runs and a record 138 RBI, 103 runs, and 330 total bases. Nahant is going to bat him 3rd on opening day, right between two other sold hitters in Grandson Quarles and Fairprice Fairley, which should help him succeed.

4. Clownie Blammo, C, Nordhagen Beach (CBO) - A 6th-round pick in 2306, #134 overall, Blammo came from nowhere to emerge as a top-ranked prospect in the CBO. OSA scouts already consider him the premier defensive catcher at any level after his 2307 performance with the Boys' BMU squad, Walden Pond. He only hit .235 with 13 home runs and 51 RBI, but Blammo could step in should the Party Boys' Biter Trout need a day off or gets injured.

5. Family Sam Partridge, 1B, Lexington (CBO) - The 3rd-overall pick of the 2306 draft, Partridge emerged as a great all-around hitter for Lexington's BMU squad, Sanctuary Hills, in 2307. He hit .366 with 35 home runs and 98 RBI in 88 starts. While his natural position is as a corner outfielder, Partridge can get playing time immediately in Lexington at 1B since Gee Force and Danny Faraday will man the corner OF spots. He is still developing, but he will be a star for the Synths once he fully develops.

BCAC Predictions

Before we catch up on 2308's transactions, let's take a look at the CBO's newest amateur league, the Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference. In its inaugural season, PAM believes that the Northeastern University Huskies will defeat the Harvard Crimson in the College Series.

The North Division is expected to be more competitive, with PAM predicting the Crimson, CIT, and Bunker Hill University to all tie for 1st place. Tufts University is expected to finish 15 games back of all three teams in the 86-game schedule.

In the South Division, the Huskies are expected to run away from Boston College, Mass Bay University, and Commonwealth University. Northeastern is expected to be the best overall team though they may not be best at either hitting or pitching.

Harvard is expected to have the best offensive player with RF Shell Lob, LF Jiub Menace, and 3B Wandering Bare all predicted to be the best offensive players. For pitchers, the Huskies' SP Cecil Rosa and CL Patience Evergreen are expected to compete for the best pitcher award, in competition with CL Spitball Heater of MBU and CL Sid Anyis of BHU.

Interesting to see PAM have Oberland taking (or tieing) the division with Roxbury. Betting big on their preseason tournament win. Separately, I love some of the close rase predicted. I think the field is pretty open this year. Curious to see how it plays out

I'm curious to see how Oberland does, too. They have some definitive strengths (C, SS, RF, ace) on their team but they do seem to be a few needs short before they're battling for the best record in the CBO.

BNN Weekly Report

News from the CBO, Minors, College, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

20 April 2308

CBO Analysis

The 2308 season is off to an exciting start. New faces, new places, and some of the same old fallout charm. We are now through the first stretch of games, the interassociation variety. The Brotherhood League appears to be the early leader for the best league in the land, while the Railroad League has only one team over .500 (and it is NOT Roxbury). Let's take a look at the early Power Rankings:

Easy Town emerges as #1. In their first 12 games, the Assaultrons went 10-2, with their only losses coming at Atom (#13) and at Jamaica Plain (#3). Otherwise, the Trons are currently on a six-game winning streak, including a sweep of the entire RL.

Brotherhood League second place and #2 overall, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys are off to the second-best start in the CBO at 9-3. While they lost their last two to Oberland (#14) and Egret (#12), the Boys started 9-1 with the only loss coming at Goodneighbor (#21) in 10 innings.

Jamaica Plain is the #3 team as one of five teams at 8-4 in the CBO. The Red Rockets split with the top two teams and lost their other three games to Nahant (#16), The Slog (#6), and Bunker Hill (#5).

Vault 81 comes in as the #4 team. They went 5-1 against the Institute League with their only hiccup against Sunshine Tidings (#18) in the first game. The Dwellers then went 3-3 against the BL with wins over County Crossing (#11), the Ghouls, and Salem (#7).

Leading the Institute League, Bunker Hill is #5. They went 4-2 against both the RL and ML with their four losses coming against the Dwellers, Roxbury (#17), Spectacle Island (#10), and Quincy (#8).

Brotherhood League

This league has started as the strongest league, going a combined 46-26 against the SCA. Both the Assautrons and Party Boys appear to be in the same battle as they were in 2307 for the top seed in the NCA with the Trons getting a slight edge in their first 12.

Easy Town will have a tough start to association play with back-to-back road series at Sunshine Tidings and Bunker Hill. Nordhagen Beach also starts on the road with trips to Lexington and the Chemists. The Party Boys have been the offensive powerhouse so far, scoring an NCA-best 85 runs (7.08/gm). Meanwhile, the Trons are the pitching masters, allowing just 34 runs (2.83/gm).

Institute League

Bunker Hill and Lexington are the only two teams above .500. The IL also features the CBO's worst current team, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, at 1-11. Overall, the IL went 30-42 against the SCA, the worst league record.

The Chemists' record is worse than their performance, so there is not much concern with them moving forward. Despite being 4th in runs scored (66) and runs allowed (53), they are a concerning 0-6 in games decided by 1 or 2 runs. If those games start going their way, Sunshine Tidings will again be vying for a top seed.

Minutemen League

At 36-36, the ML was the second-best league in association play. Jamaica Plain, Quincy, and Spectacle Island are all above .500. University Point has been underperforming so far, with Barker Cocoa (.333/1/4) being unusually pedestrian to start the season and Aesed Hayjen (.226/2/9) struggling also. The starting pitching has also been bad, currently 11th in ERA (6.95).

Railroad League

The RL started just 32-40 in interassociation play with just the Dwellers over .500. Oberland (6-6) and Roxbury (5-7) are expected to battle for the CBO's top record, but they are not off to a blistering start. Both teams should find their balance as association play begins, but they will have to find ways to beat a pretty tough ML assortment first.

The T-51s get a home slate of Jamaica Plain and Atom before traveling to Quincy and Spectacle Island next week. The Rad Sox will matchup with Goodneighbor and the Reapers before trips to the Cats and University Point to close out the month.

CBO Power Rankings

CBO Players of the Week

April 13 - His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing B.J. Perez was rewarded with the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Sunshine Tidings Chemists left fielder hit .531 while collecting 17 hits in 32 at-bats, 1 home run and 3 RBIs.

Bulleye Shooterson is respected by most Jamaica Plain Red Rockets fans for his no-frills style of play. The 26-year-old second baseman went about his business with vigor last week to grab the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .467 average (7-for-15) with 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

April 20 - The baseball must have looked as big as a balloon to Jonathan Angelou of Nordhagen Beach last week. The right fielder had quite a 6-game stretch and today he was named the North Charles Association Player of the Week.

Angelou delivered 8 hits in 23 at-bats to hit .348 with 6 home runs and 15 RBIs.

This week's Player of the Week was Ben Pettinato of the Quincy Gunners.

He battered South Charles Association pitching for 14 hits in 24 at-bats, 5 home runs and 17 RBIs while hitting .583 and scoring 9 runs.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, College, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 May 2308

The May Super Post

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Maxx Murtagh battered North Charles Association pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Murtagh told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 20 games, Murtagh hit .383 with 10 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 27 runs.

SCA Hitter - Orcin Cardinal made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the South Charles Association this past month.

The Oberland T-51s right fielder shined through the month of April and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 25-year-old hit .430 with 12 home runs, 34 RBIs and 20 runs scored.

NCA Pitcher - April's standout hurler was Beachboy Nut of Nordhagen Beach. He muzzled North Charles Association hitters and held them in check the entire month to capture the Pitcher of the Month award.

To win the honor Nut compiled an impressive 4-0 mark and 1.71 ERA in 5 starts. The Party Boys star hurler also rung up 35 strikeouts in 42 innings.

SCA Pitcher - In the SCA spotlight today is Ghost Kyudalson of the Reapers. The bullpen ace was acclaimed the #1 pitcher in the South Charles Association for April.

The Spectacle Island Reapers reliever had 8 saves for the month with a 1-0 record and 1.64 ERA. He made 10 relief appearances, hurled 11 innings, yielded 8 hits, fanned 6 and walked 4.

NCA Rookie - Gavin Deux-Gas is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest North Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the The Slog hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .381 average with 32 hits, 4 home runs and 12 RBIs.

SCA Rookie - Todd Smithfield's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Diamond City left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .267 with 4 doubles, no triples and 7 home runs. Smithfield also scored 11 times and drove in 13 runs.

MML Analysis

We are one month into the MML season, and it looks as though most of the top-talented teams are all in the LL's Matt Murtagh Division. Both Lynn (Obe) and Everett (V81) are tied for the best record at 13-4. Other division leaders are Abernathy (BH), Needham (JP), and a three-way tie in the Carl Yastrzemski Division of Pleasant Lake (CC), Warwick (Star), and Castle (Quin).

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1712775713

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - The Batter of the Month honoree for April in the Legends League is Lynn Fortune Finders left fielder Cram Garge.

He showed no mercy as he finished the month with a .405 batting average, 10 home runs, 24 RBIs, and 13 runs scored.

SL Hitter - Chris Eakle is not used to being associated with Batter of the Month-caliber players, but today the Braintree left fielder joined that select company when the Stars League announced the results of April's voting.

Eakle totaled 26 hits, 12 walks, 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 16 runs scored last month to put together a .441 batting average and .534 on-base percentage.

LL Pitcher - Last month was a very good one for Beaux Beaux of Danvers. So good that he has been picked as the Pitcher of the Month in the Legends League.

Beaux throttled league hitters the entire month, completing April with an impressive 3-2 mark and a 2.92 ERA in 5 starts with 31 strikeouts in 40 innings.

SL Pitcher - When John Webber takes the hill, chances are good for a Brookline victory. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and 2.54 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 39 innings, fanned 29 and held others clubs to a .243 average.

That's why the Bandoliers star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Stars League.

BMU Analysis

Four teams have distinguished themselves in their leagues in early play: Taffington Boathouse (Egr), Sanctuary Hills (Lex), Neponset Park (Sal), and Forest Grove (FtH). There is still plenty of season left, though, so we will see how well these players perform. As a note, the BMU added a rule this season that all players must be 27 or younger before the start of the season. All "washed-up" veterans of 28 or older still playing must be in the MML.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1712775713

BMU Players of the Month

CA Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 19 Herc Megara has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Sanctuary Hills Zetans star can enjoy the numbers he put up in April, which have garnered him the nod as the Commonwealth Association Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .418 average with 6 home runs, 13 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

MA Hitter - For a rookie just breaking in, Tuck Wilson certainly put together a successful month. It was good enough to win the MA Batter of the Month award for April.

The 19-year-old third baseman for the Forest Grove Pugilists hit .404 with 7 home runs, 20 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

CA Pitcher - The Commonwealth Association scribes have picked April's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Jumping Jehoshaphat Cobb of Mystic Pines. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 3-0 mark.

The Raybathers star hurler made 3 starts with a 0.75 ERA and surrendered 14 hits in 24 innings. He struck out 16 and walked 3.

MA Pitcher - The elite pitcher this past month in the Massachusetts Association was High Pockets Muse of the Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials. He stood head and shoulders above the rest, finishing April with an extraordinary 3-0 record and a 1.09 ERA.

The Tricentennials star hurler made 3 starts and surrendered 15 hits in 24.2 innings. He struck out 19 and walked 3.

GBRL Analysis

The NL features two divisions ties with Parsons Asylum (Good) and Greentop Nursery (JP) knotted up in the Northeast Division, while Nuka Express (Star) and Belmont (ET) are tied in the Northwest Division. In the SL, Trinity Plaza (UP) leads the Southeast Division and Greater Mass (FHE) leads the Southwest Division.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1712775713

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - Downlow Uptown has a lot going for him. The Nuka Express third baseman just broke into the majors this year and now the North League has just picked him as its top hitter for April.

In 12 games last month this outstanding rookie batted .511 with 5 home runs, 10 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

SL Hitter - Rip Risk may be much younger than other hitters in the South League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in April to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 20-year-old Park Street third baseman hit .442 with 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

NL Pitcher - The North League announced today that Hoot Wooten has been chosen the league's Pitcher of the Month. The Greentop Nursery starter had everything working for him last month as he glided to a 4-0 record.

In April Wooten chalked up a 1.64 ERA in 33 innings with 42 strikeouts and 7 walks.

SL Pitcher - Trinity Plaza Snipers starter Idgrod Younger has collected the South League Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances.

"This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said Younger. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down."

In April the 18-year-old compiled a 3-0 record in 3 starts with a 2.89 ERA. He threw 18.2 innings, fanning 17 while walking 11.

BCAC Analysis

THE BCAC's first month of existence is now in the books, and two institutions of higher learning are atop their divisions to start the season. With just under 60 games remaining, we still feel that there will be a lot of change. Interestingly enough, teams only slotted five players per team from the official youth leagues. We hope to see a few more continue their baseball careers if the draft does not call their names.

Leaders are Tufts University at 11-6 and Northeastern University at 12-5. The CIT Engineers are off to the worst start, currently at 3-14.

OSA has also now scouted for the draft. In the first year of the BCAC, every player is considered draft-eligible. In subsequent years, the CBO may begin to post years played qualifiers. According to OSA, here are some of the BCAC players that could see their names called early in the November Rookie Draft:

RF Stoo Berko (18, FR), Boston College - Berko played ball at his settlement in Montpelier, Vermont. He had the opportunity to move to the Commonwealth and enter Boston College this season. He is considered a high-value pick who can hit for contact and power, and he could turn out to be an outstanding outfielder at any of the spots.

1B Macho Marco Deangelo (19, SO), Mass Bay - Deangelo was known in the travel circuits coming from the Providence area, but no one is sure why he did not join the Providence League. Batting .422 with 5 HR and 16 RBI, Deangelo is already showing he might belong in baseball. Scouts like his all-around skills with the bat and could see him going within the Top 50 picks in November.

CL Sid Anyis (21, SR), Bunker Hill - Anyis is a two-pitch pitcher, but he has already seemed to have mastered those pitches, a curveball and a sinker, to keep batters off balance. With five saves in five attempts and a 1.69 ERA, Anyis could be an interesting pick within the top five rounds.

LF Lowell Noops (21, SR), Bunker Hill - Noops is finishing a degree in government studies at BHU. He has not played organized baseball in several years. According to Noops, there were travel teams around in Connecticut that played in Bradberton and Providence, but he left baseball to pursue higher education. Noops is said to have a strong swing that could lead to being an effective power hitter. Scouts have noted, however, that Noops is raw and has not been able to find his way onto the field with the Globalists.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1712775718

BCAC Players of the Month

Hitter - Not known for his offensive prowess, Tom Bomb set the league afire in April and took home the Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference Batter of the Month award.

The Boston College left fielder posted a steady .493 batting average, 5 home runs, 26 RBIs and 19 runs.

Pitcher - The top-rated pitcher this past month in the Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference was Maegory Crawford of the Harvard Crimson. He really dominated league hitters, finishing April with a 4-0 won-lost mark and a 2.35 ERA.

The Crimson ace made 5 starts and surrendered 22 hits in 30.2 innings. He struck out 21 and walked 18.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, College, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

4 May 2308

CBO Analysis

We are through our first month of CBO play, which means that intraleague games can now begin. The Brotherhood League has been a force with four teams above .500 after 22 games, while the other three leagues each have two teams above .500. Also, the BL will see the Power Ranking's two top teams face off this week. Let's take a look at the Power Ranking's Top 5 teams, and may the best teams live long and prosper.

Nordhagen Beach comes in at #1 with the CBO's best record and a 7-3 mark in their last 10. The Party Boys swept Lexington (#10), split with Sunshine Tidings (#12), swept Concord (#24), swept Bunker Hill (#14), and then lost both to Starlight (#3).

The Salem Witch Hats are the #2 team, riding a six-game winning streak and a 7-3 mark in their last 10 to hold the second-best record in the CBO. The Hats split at the 75ers, lost both games at the Killers, and then swept the Synths, Radstags, and Chemists.

At #3 and on an eight-game winning streak, along with going 8-2 in their last 10, are the Starlight Killers. Before the streak, the Killers lost both games to The Slog (#5), but then they swept all of the Witch Hats, Easy Town (#9), County Crossing (#18), and the Boys.

Spectacle Island at #4 marks the first SCA team in the Top 5 after going 7-3 in their last 10 and having a three-game winning streak. The Reapers swept Diamond City (#21), split at Roxbury (#11), split with the Swatters, split with Oberland (#13), and then swept Vault 81 (#8), dropping the Dwellers into a first-place tie in the RL.

The Slog, tied with three other teams at 14-8 in the CBO, is the #5 team. The Ghouls went 6-4 in their last 10, including a sweep of Starlight, a split with Fort Hagen (#23), a split with the Chemists, getting swept versus the Synths, and then a sweep of the Stags.

Brotherhood League

With County Crossing currently tied for 5th with Nahant, we can already tell you that the season series in this league are going to be brutal. Nordhagen Beach is currently atop the mountain with the league lead and CBO best record, but any losing streak of two games are more could drop them. Salem and The Slog have been pleasant early surprises, though we would venture to guess that both teams will probably slip up at some point, making room for the usual top trio in some combination of Easy Town, the Boys, and the Bugs.

Salem is a team that feels that they are perpetually close to figuring it out but never getting there. At 15-7, the Witch Hats see themselves in the top half of many statistical categories, including 3rd in runs scored (120) and tied for 5th in runs allowed (97). Veteran LF Dan Erb (.466/5/16), this week's Player of the Week, has started the season on fire, which has helped the middle of the lineup behind him: 1B Needham Tickler (.338/7/21), RF Brian DeLong (.247/4/8), and CF Andy Dogleash (.347/5/18). The top two pitchers, SP Jaa Thirtysix (2-1, 2.55) and SP Bry McBourbon (4-1, 2.68), have been money.

Institute League

We wish we could say that there is a talent issue at the top of the IL, but what we think it is has been consistency since Fort Hagen dropped off as a power team. Starlight is the current leader after the last update's leader, Bunker Hill, went cold at 3-7 in their past 10. Lexington has hovered at or slightly above .500 so far this season, but we could see them dropping off in the next few weeks once intraleague play begins.

The Killers' current winning streak has defied their statistical output, which means they will eventually fall back to the pack. They are 4th in runs scored (115) and tied for 8th in runs allowed (104). Their Starters ERA is 7th (4.58) and their Bullpen ERA is 8th (4.89), which means their .636 winning percentage is not sustainable. SP Digger Vadim (1-3, 5.51) is struggling this season, as is SP Whokill Poole (1-2, 6.06), an offseason addition. The power in the offense is not doing great, currently tied for 7th with 29 home runs, thanks to the middle of the lineup struggling. In fact, the middle--RF Hurr Lee Reyes (.295/2/13), 1B Oren Gep (.278/3/11), and SS Nick Maris (.295/2/9)--has combined for seven home runs, which matches team leader LF Goody Cloyse.

Minutemen League

Quincy and Spectacle Island are atop this league with expected champion, University Point, two games below .500. Jamaica Plain is at .500, too, though it could be expected that both the Claws and Rockets would get hot at some point and start surpassing the Gunners and Reapers. Atom and Goodneighbor may already want to start assessing their lineup for making a run in 2309 or 2310.

The Gunners are a team we just cannot quite figure out. Expected to be a losing team both last season and this season, Quincy is now 75-67 (.528) over that span. It's not a great record--they missed the playoffs in 2307 despite a 61-59 record--but it is much better than we expected. The team is currently 2nd in the SCA in runs scored (131) and tied for 3rd in runs allowed (95). The middle of their lineup--LF Baywatch Fischler (.306/5/17), 3B Ben Pettinato (.362/8/29), and 1B Curt Carpenter (.328/5/12)--has been especially efficient. Two of their SPs are undefeated: second starter Village Idiot Recker (4-0, 2.76) and fourth starter Greg Hudgens (3-0, 2.78). The bullpen still needs to improve to stay competitive, though, with their current ERA of 5.00, 11th in the SCA. CL Ryan Rebman (7 SV, 6.75) has made late games too dramatic.

Railroad League

Roxbury struggled the first month, which plays into looking at the last half of last season where they also struggled. The Rad Sox are also the CBO's most banged up team, losing two pitchers for the season and star LF Young Goodman (.250/6/13) for at least a week. Quest Dawg, who was injured in his first and only appearance of the season in relief, was expected to move into the starting lineup this season.

In the rest of the RL, the other team expected to be among the CBO's most talented, Oberland, is right there with the Sox, while Egret and Vault 81 sit at the top at 13-9 each. FHE and Diamond City already knew they would struggle, and they can join the other four teams in the CBO with winning percentages below .400 in preparing a future roster.

For the Ninjas, it is hard to remember that they made a playoff appearance in 2305 and upset Roxbury before succumbing to University Point in the SCA CS. Egret is not considered to be among the CBO's most talented teams, but they are a team that can surprise here and there. If they want to stay at or near the top, though, they will need to improve on their 20 home runs (10th in the SCA). OF/SP Admiral Kelm (.360/4/14) leads the team in home runs. 1B/OF Long Hall (.258/1/8) is not a cleanup hitter, so the Ninjas will need to find one.

CBO Players of the Week

April 27 - It was some kind of week for Grool Manycaps of the Bunker Hill 75ers. First he hits the heck out of the ball, ripping it at a .421 clip and the next thing you know, he is voted the Player of the Week in the North Charles Association. Last week Manycaps went 8-for-19, chalked up 4 home runs and 5 RBIs and scored 5 runs. Not a bad week's work at all.

This year Manycaps is batting .377 with 20 hits, 6 home runs, 11 RBIs, 8 walks, .459 OBP and has scored 10 runs.

One of the league's most exciting young players, Orcin Cardinal of the Oberland T-51s earned himself South Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 25-year-old right fielder had a lofty .500 average (10-for-20), collecting 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

This year Cardinal is batting .439 with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs. In 17 games he has scored 18 times.

May 4 - Dan Erb is respected by most Salem Witch Hats fans for his no-frills style of play. The 31-year-old left fielder went about his business with vigor last week to grab the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He compiled a .524 average (11-for-21) with 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

This year Erb is batting .466 with 5 home runs. He has scored 16 runs and driven in 16.

His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Stu Gains was rewarded with the South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Vault 81 Dwellers center fielder hit .444 while collecting 8 hits in 18 at-bats, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs.

This year Gains is hitting .391, produced 24 RBIs and 7 home runs, scored 25 times and gotten on base at a .462 rate.

BYDL Preview

Both the Beantown Sprouts of the North Region and the Hester Mechanists of the South Region look to be the most powerful squads entering the 2308 season of the BYDL. The Sprouts reached the championship series just two seasons ago, falling to now back-to-back champions, the Spectacle Island Specters.

Predicted divisional winners are below:

Franklin - Beantown Sprouts
Emerson - Woburn Diners
Fuller - CIT Academy Yahoos
Revere - Marblehead Mess
Adams - Glowing Sea Prep Venom
Alcott - Hester Mechanists
Morse - South Beach Waves
Attucks - Spectacle Island Specters

The Sprouts bring back some upperclassman leaders in SP Sluggo Pyne, LF Gremlin T. Squearfish, 1B Allee Bobbuh, CF Aaron Wright, and RF Fergus O'Mara. They also return one of the BYDL's top sophomores, C Red Jay Jones, and another talented outfielder, Tyson Punchout. Freshman SP Alex Language is expected to be a top pitcher.

The Mechanists are also a veteran team, returning 10 seniors who helped lead the team to a wildcard appearance in 2307. Players expected to take a step up in 2308 include 3B Yanto Chase, C Andrew Gablodda, RF Bipp Islander, LF Thatch Heard, CH Josh Peerson, and 1B Maz Edo-Khel. Hester also touts one of four great freshman pitchers entering the league, SP Buzzcut McDonald.

The two-time champions, the Specters, are still also going to be a good team in 2308 and could challenge for a third-straight title. Leaders include LF Javen the Raven Coleman, RF Art Decoy, SS King Hippo, RF Innis Sark, and 3B Hey Dentra Venski. Sark, a junior, is the only upperclassman of the group with the rest being sophomores. They also have a talented freshman in 1B Eddie Furnace who could get the starting nod over talented senior Zeke Zombifier.

The top three performers in each region expected to compete for the best hitter awards are Marlborough's freshman LF Riot Darton, 111's sophomore RF Naga Arakaki, and Saugus' senior CF Thrifty Iraheta in the North Region and GSP's senior RF Kasumi Goto, Boston Common's sophomore RF Pie Trainer, and Braintree's senior LF Sack King.

Best pitcher competitors are CIT Academy's senior SP Chase Seashores, Beantown's freshman SP Language, and the Sprouts' senior SP Pyne in the North and the triple freshman threat in the South of Hester's SP McDonald, Diamond City's SP Gobbler Core, and Needham's SP Gauge Jump. Senior SP Mihai Comanita of South Beach is the best-predicted non-freshman in the South Region.

SCYL Preview

In the SCYL, the top two teams are expected to be the Truro Hatchlings of the Cape Cod League and the Woodlawn Gnomes of the Providence League. Woodlawn, known as the Red Clay until this season, was the 2307 champions.

Other divisional winners expected are the Wareham Comets in the CCL Nantucket Sound Division and the New Bedford Whales in the PL's Narragansett Sound Division.

The Hatchlings were a playoff team the last two seasons, including winning the Cape Cod Bay Division last season. They're three most talented players are still young: junior 2B Boogie Cousins and freshmen 3B Tarry Chik and RF Clipper Truro. Senior pitchers Andrew Groom and Ace Striker should also help the squad.

Woodlawn has three seniors looking to help the 2308 squad: SP Don Fortuna, RP Sculloge Muskerry, and LF Donnell Udina. The Gnomes also sport three talented sophomores in C Timelord Marvel, 2B Tome Humphries, and 3B Roo Kid Cunningham.

Freshman litter the predicted award winners as hitters. In the CCL, a trio of freshmen--Wareham's 2B Lee Mayhew and 3B Mike Fountaineau and Eastham's LF Matt Paydirt--are expected to compete for the top individual prize. In the PL, two freshmen--Freeplat's SS Brandon Larsonist and Pawtucket's LF Campy Madrid--are expected to battle the Paw Sox's senior CF Declan Leuvaarden.

At pitcher, there are a mix of classes expected to compete at the top. In the CCL, sophomore Tarzan Rogers of Sandwich, the Hatchlings' freshman Kevin Gauzeman, and Wellfleet's senior Burt Bloodhound are the top three picks. In the PL, the Wicked Good's freshman Jared Porch, the Paw Sox's sophomore Jazz Delgado, and East Providence's sophomore Monte Ward are the top picks.

Nuka News Update

Reporting on the NWL, APL, NWLR, and BBL Leagues

by Evan Guy

4 May 2308

NWL Begins Its 10th Season

The Nuka World League begins its 10th season of action, and the league is considered to be as tight as it ever was. The assaultron PAM has predicted that the Grape Painted Ghouls will win their second Nuka Series, defeating the Dark Bloodworms. It would mark the Painted Ghouls
third straight trip to the Nuka Series and fourth overall. They won the Nuka Series in 2301 and then went on to win the Season Pass Series over Far Harbor. Meanwhile, Dark is looking to appear in its first Nuka Series. PAM predicts eight games to mark the difference between the NWL's best and worst records, meaning that the race to the championship would be tight throughout.

Echo Lake-Grand Hotel to Battle for Vim! League Championship

The 2308 season is all set to begin today, and the Echo Lake Harbormen and the Grand Hotel Atoms are expected to be the definitive divisional winners. Both teams are expected to win their divisions by five games with Dalton Farm picked second in the Fog Division and Far Harbor picked second in the Harbor Division.

Last season, the Harbormen defeated the Ghoul Whales, four games to one, in the Vim Series before being swept by the Cherry Ghoulrillas in the Season Pass Series. If the Harbormen were to repeat this season, it would mark their third championship. For the Atoms, this would be their second playoff trip. They won the Harbor Division in 2306 before falling to Dalton Farm in the Vim! Series.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, College, and Youth Leagues

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

18 May 2308

CBO Analysis

We have now reached the quarter point of the season, and four CBO teams have 20 or more wins, three of which are in the Brotherhood League. All league races are tight, with the largest league lead at two games. PAM predicted a season of league races, and the season is shaping up to follow that prediction. Let's take a look at the Top 5 in this week's Power Rankings.

The defending champions, Nordhagen Beach, are again #1 this week with a 7-3 stretch in their last 10. The Party Boys swept Starlight (#7), won two of three over Salem (#2) in the battle for 1st place, swept Lexington (#20), and then won one of three over Nahant (#14).

The Salem Witch Hats are #2, trailing the Boys in the BL race by just a game and possessing the CBO's second-best record after going 7-3 in their last 10. The Hats swept Fort Hagen (#24), lost the series to Nordhagen Beach, swept the Killers, and then won two of three over County Crossing (#17).

With the SCA's best record, Spectacle Island is #3 with a four-game winning streak and a 7-3 record in the past two weeks. The Reapers split at Egret (#13), won two over Goodneighbor (#19), split at Oberland (#15), and then swept Atom (#21).

Sunshine Tidings propelled themselves up to an Institute League tie for 1st place by going 8-2 in their last 10. The Chemists swept the Bloodbugs, won two over the Synths, split with the Celtics, and then swept Concord (#23) who announced the firings of manager Mark Gourdroot and pitching coach Kyle Boyster today.

Easy Town rounds out the Top 5. Despite being in 3rd place, the Assaultrons still kept up a steady pace with a 7-3 mark in their last 10. The Trons won two at the Radstags, won two over The Slog (#10), swept Bunker Hill (#8), and then won one at the Ghouls.

Brotherhood League

This league is fun so far in the 2308 campaign with four teams possessing four of the top five records in the CBO. The Slog, which is not in the Power Rankings Top 5, is 19-13, tying them with four other teams for the CBO's fifth-best record. Meanwhile, County Crossing still has not found their groove, standing as the only BL team below .500, currently six games back of Easy Town for the NCA's #5 seed.

For the Ghouls, they are starting look like a team that can compete. The Slog is currently 3rd in runs scored (172) and 6th in runs allowed. Fueling their offensive production is the young top three hitters in the lineup: rookie SS Gavin Deux-Gas (.328/7/15), LF Judas Stoner (.288/11/24), and 2307 Red Rocket Rookie Award winner 3B Plain Morris (.319/11/23). Also, with the 4th-best Starters ERA (3.96), three pitchers are pitching well so far: Kyle Gunnels (4-1, 2.26), Tiger Fanne (4-3, 3.75), and Flirt Perez (4-1, 1.29).

Institute League

As the BL flourishes, you would think that means the IL is struggling, but this is the league of polar opposites. At the bottom of the league, Fort Hagen and Concord currently possess the two worst records in baseball with a combined 13 wins between them. Now that Sunshine Tidings has gotten hot, three teams are four games or more above .500 in a tight league race.

Bunker Hill had a cold streak that knocked them out of an early lead in the IL, but the 75ers have been steady the past two weeks, including a weekend sweep over the Silver Shroud. While the offense has not been spectacular, currently 8th in runs scored (147), the pitching has been getting better, ranking 4th in runs allowed (138) with improvements though a long way to go in Starters ERA (6th at 4.32) and Bullpen ERA (6th at 4.35). SP Jason Tonelli (3-4, 5.36) has been struggling compared to his 2307 numbers of 13-9, 3.79 when he converted from closer to starter, but he has been impressive in the three games he has won. With SS Aaron Squire (.343/3/13) back from the injury list, he should boost the offense.

Minutemen League

Don't look now, but University Point and Jamaica Plain went a combined 15-5 the past two weeks. While they have struggled in consistency, it is a seeming pattern for those teams to turn up the heat in the second half of the season. Both currently trail by only three games in the ML.

For the Deathclaws, their offense is back where we expected, currently 1st in 7 of 9 offensive categories, including runs scored (214), and 2nd in home runs (51) and stolen bases (14). 1B Barker Cocoa (.339/7/25) had a slow start to the season but has turned it on as of late, and RF Tomas Jones (.367/8/25) earned Player of the Week honors this week. LF Chris Hirshfield (.347/11/26) is a little banged up currently, but he has led the offense so far this season.

Railroad League

Vault 81 and Egret continue to hold advantage in the RL over both Roxbury and Oberland, but we think "not for long" probably applies here. Vault 81 was the only team at 6-4 to have a record above .500 the past two weeks, leading them to a game advantage over the Ninjas. The Rad Sox and T-51s trail them by three games.

The Dwellers have been all offense and little pitching, which will probably end up being their demise. They are 2nd in runs scored (181) but tied for 8th in runs allowed (162), which includes the 12th Bullpen ERA (5.35). However, CL Chris Salazar (8 SV, 1.32) has been exceptional in the pen. On offense, the top four hitters--RF Joe Rathmann (.344/7/19), CF Stu Gains (.384/9/32), SS End Yamada (.306/4/21), and 2B Harry Byrd (.331/7/27)--have been a nightmare for opposing pitchers. Throughout the lineup, C Knicker Trout (.207/1/9) is the only one really struggling.

CBO Power Rankings

CBO Players of the Week

May 11 - It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Plain Morris, the The Slog Ghouls 21-year-old third baseman, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 10 hits in 19 at-bats, compiling a .526 average with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.

This season Morris is hitting at a .324 pace with 10 home runs, 19 RBIs and has scored 23 times.

It was an extraordinary week for Joe Rathmann of the Vault 81 Dwellers. First he goes on a hot hitting streak, batting .444, then he is voted the Player of the Week in the South Charles Association. Last week Rathmann went 8-for-18, racked up 4 home runs and 8 RBIs and scored 12 runs. It was a heck of a week for the Vault 81 right fielder.

On the year Rathmann has hit .314 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 34 runs.

May 18 - It was an exceptional week for Dog Prairie of the Easy Town Assaultrons.

First he beat the devil out of the ball, hitting .526 and as you would expect, he was voted the Player of the Week in the North Charles Association. Last week Prairie went 10-for-19, notched 4 home runs and 9 RBIs and scored 6 runs. All in all, a very good week for him.

For the season Prairie is batting .336 with 39 hits and 11 home runs. He has scored 26 times and batted in 26.

A hot-hitting week got Tomas Jones the South Charles Association Player of the Week trophy. He really wore out his welcome with league pitchers.

The University Point right fielder slammed them for a .435 average, 10 hits in 23 at-bats, 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and scored 6 runs.

In the postgame press conference, Jones shared his hitting philosophy with the BNN scribes: "Just look for the seams and hit between them... nothin' more than that."

Currently Jones has 8 home runs and a .367 batting average.

Sorry, still been busy. Will say when I saw Bunker Hill get a good start right out of the gate I was pretty excited. Another "new" team doing well, and also I've recently warmed up to the idea of the Railroad. I mean, the Railroad is a pretty nice faction admittedly, I think I've just been harboring a longstanding grudge because Desdamona was rude to me the first time I met her. My friend just getting into Fallout 4 is doing a Railroad playthrough right now and it's changed my perspective. I know Bunker Hill is technically a neutral settlement, but we all know it's Railroad.

Also only seen the first two episodes so far (so 1/4 of the season) but the new TV show is legit.

I am in the same boat for the show. The Brotherhood of Steel portions are . . . different but does not take me out of the box. Lucy's character reminds me so much of Fallout 3's Moira with her sunny disposition.

I also love The Ghoul character, and I hope that he and Lucy become a team in some way. That would be a Fallout-esque companionship.

The June Super Post, Part 1

CBO Analysis

Today marks one of those opportunities where the Monday update coincides with the monthly recap. Entering the third month of the season and 42 games into the 2308 campaign, we have a new and surprising team with the CBO's best record. We will break down their progress in the league breakdowns. Things are indeed interesting, and we really want to know why a few teams that have been good are suddenly struggling this season. First, let's take a look at the Top 5.

Salem is the #1 team with a 7-3 mark in their last 10 and the top record in the CBO. The Witch Hats swept Concord (#24), swept Easy Town (#14), got swept at Sunshine Tidings (#4), and then won two of three over the Assaultrons.

Coming in at #2 is the team with the CBO's second-best record, Spectacle Island after going 7-3 in the past two weeks. The Reapers swept FHE (#21), won two of three over Goodneighbor (#18), swept the Yao Guai again, and then won one at Quincy (#13).

Vault 81 jumps to #3 after going 8-2 in their last 10 and taking a four-game lead in the Railroad League. The Dwellers split with the Hancocks, swept Roxbury (#20) in three one-run games, swept the Gunners, and then won two of three at the Rad Sox.

Atop the Institute League, Sunshine Tidings is #4, thanks to a six-game winning streak and a 7-3 record in their past 10. The Chemists were swept at The Slog (#8), won two of three at Lexington (#17), swept the Hats, and then swept Starlight (#15) to take over the IL.

After a 4-6 mark the past two weeks, Nordhagen Beach drops from the top to #5. The Party Boys got swept at Fort Hagen (#23), won two over the Ghouls, split with the Silver Shroud, and then won one at County Crossing (#16).

Brotherhood League

With Salem getting hot, they now hold a two-game lead over the Party Boys and a five-game lead over third-place The Slog. Five teams remain above .500 with the Bloodbugs being close at 20-22. We are not giving up on the Bugs being in playoff contention with just 1/3 of the season finished, but they may want to start winning at a .667 clip the rest of the way to gain ground in the BL.

County Crossing is not playing terribly, but their offense has struggled some, moreso than they have in recent years. That includes being 8th in runs scored (196) and 10th in batting average (.251). Only two regulars are batting above .300: 1B Zeldolph Violet (.320/13/36) and RF Babs Rooth (.319/8/25). Power number are way down, too, including Rooth on pace to hit just 24 home runs on the season, which would be his lowest output since his first full season in 2301 when he hit 23. He hit 49 and 53 the past two seasons.

Where the Bugs' offense has struggled, the Witch Hats' offense has stepped up. Currently 2nd in runs scored (231), including 1st in OPS (.840) and wOBA (.362), Salem has looked like a juggernaut. LF Dan Erb (.404/10/28) is having a career year, including being on pace to hit a career-high home runs in his 13th season as a regular in both Concord and Salem. Other players having great seasons include 2B Michael Hoopring (.306/12/26), 1B Needham Tickler (.283/10/33), and CF Andy Dogleash (.359/10/33).

Institute League

Sunshine Tidings has been hot as of late and went into the weekend series with both teams tied for 1st. Three wins later, the Chemists now have a one-game lead over Bunker Hill, which has also been solid in their last 10. The top three teams seem to be way ahead of the rest of the league, so we will go ahead and write off Lexington, Fort Hagen, and the Radstags.

The Chemists are now appearing to be edging themselves towards being the favorites in the NCA. On offense, they are 1st in runs scored (241) and home runs (74). Team leaders in power numbers are SS Lernz Tentsleep (.313/16/44) who is tied for the NCA lead with The Slog's Plain Morris, 3B Ross Merchantman (.273/13/33), and RF Baktu DaWell (.369/11/32). In 13 seasons, Tentsleep's career-high in home runs was 35 in 2305. This season, he is on pace to hit 48.

Minutemen League

With Quincy struggling as of late, along with University Point and Jamaica Plain not getting too hot, Spectacle Island is tied with Vault 81 for the largest league lead in the CBO at four games. Goodneighbor and Atom seem to be battling for the bottom of the league, so this is a four-team race for which two or three teams will make the playoffs.

The Reapers are a team worth keeping an eye on because they may have turned the corner toward being true contenders. Spectacle Island is currently 4th in runs scored (227) and 3rd in runs allowed (183) with good overall play throughout their roster. They are also 1st in home runs (71), led by their 2-3-4 hitters RF Matt Basile (.234/13/29), 1B Homestay Lovetap (.306/18/36), and 3B Diamond Ball (.369/16/42). Ace SP Chris Teddybear (6-2, 2.84) is having a good season. Assuming he stays healthy, which he typically does not, he could be in contention for the Vim! Pitcher Award.

Railroad League

We're not sure this season is completely topsy-turvy, but with Roxbury going 2-8 in their past 10 and currently six games under .500 and 9 games back of Vault 81, it may be.

The Rad Sox have struggled everywhere, currently 7th in runs scored (187) and 8th in runs allowed (209). 3B Donn Mattingley (.304/9/27) is currently the leader in home runs and RBI, and he is just six percentage points behind SS Purple Gupta (.310/2/19) for the team lead in average. SP Nuke Laloosh (6-4, 3.32) has struggled to get run support.

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Baktu DaWell battered North Charles Association pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Commonwealth Baseball Organization long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 26-year-old DaWell told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 22 games, DaWell hit .450 with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and scored 28 runs.

This year DaWell has collected a .369 batting average to date with 59 hits in 160 at-bats, 32 RBIs, 11 home runs and scored 43 times. He has played in 42 games.

SCA Hitter - When guys like Vault 81's Joe Rathmann win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive May, the longtime South Charles Association veteran toyed with opposing pitchers, collecting 34 hits in 92 at-bats.

The veteran right fielder hit for a .370 batting average and collected 9 home runs, 18 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

To date this year Rathmann is batting .331 with 11 home runs.

NCA Pitcher - There was nobody finer on the mound in May and Max Thunderdome cruised to the North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 6-0 with a 3.21 ERA while piling up 21 strikeouts in 47.2 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .229 batting average.

This year Thunderdome has a 6-3 mark in 11 starts with a 4.50 ERA. He has given up 73 hits in 78 innings, struck out 49 and issued 36 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .246 batting average against him.

SCA Pitcher - Emperry Alizm will be bringing May's South Charles Association Pitcher of the Month trophy home to Oberland. He excelled all month long as he kept opposing hitters guessing, reaching and hoping.

Alizm started 6 games, going 5-1 with 51 strikeouts in 49.2 innings as he compiled his 0.91 ERA.

So far this season Alizm has compiled a 8-3 record with a 1.25 ERA.

NCA Rookie - Family Sam Partridge earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the North Charles Association for last month's performance. The boyish Lexington left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Partridge hit .432 with 5 home runs, 12 RBIs and 18 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This year Partridge has 8 home runs and a .367 batting average.

SCA Rookie - Todd Smithfield is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest South Charles Association Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Diamond City hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .282 average with 24 hits, 3 home runs and 14 RBIs.

In 42 games Smithfield is hitting .275 this season with 44 hits, 10 home runs, 27 RBIs, 20 walks, .363 OBP and has scored 22 runs.

CBO Players of the Week

May 25 - The Player of the Week has been chosen by the North Charles Association. The award went to Lernz Tentsleep, shortstop of the Sunshine Tidings Chemists.

In a sensational hitting performance, he wrecked league pitchers with a .435 average to win the honor. Tentsleep went 10-for-23 for the week, totaled 3 home runs and 11 RBIs and scored 6 times.

So far this year Tentsleep is batting .299 with 14 home runs, 38 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

31-year-old right fielder Tomas Jones of the University Point Deathclaws is the talk of the South Charles Association for putting on a torrid hitting display last week and claiming the Player of the Week Award.

Jones rapped out a sensational .450 batting average with 9 hits in 20 at-bats, 4 home runs and 8 RBIs.

This year Jones is hitting at a .380 pace with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs. He has played in 32 games and scored 28 times.

June 1 - Sunshine Tidings Chemists fans are celebrating Baktu DaWell's selection as North Charles Association Player of the Week.

DaWell put up some serious numbers over the past seven days as he cracked 10 hits in 18 at-bats. The 26-year-old right fielder hit .556, drove in 9 runs, scored 10 times and hit 4 home runs.

DaWell is presently batting .369 with 11 home runs, 43 runs scored and 32 RBIs. His OBP is .469.

Orcin Cardinal punched, poked and pummeled the baseball last week and today he garnered a majority of the votes for the South Charles Association Player of the Week award.

The Oberland T-51s right fielder slashed out a .438 average with 7 hits in 16 at-bats, 4 home runs and 11 RBIs.

This season Cardinal is swinging the bat at a .347 pace. He has hit 18 home runs and scored 32 times, while driving in 56. His on-base percentage is .396 and he has played in 42 games.

MML Analysis

We are 40 games into the season, with only one division currently seeming out of reach. With a seven-game lead in the Boggs Division, the Abernathy Adamantium (BH) have the best shot to hold onto the lead for at least the month of June. Other division leaders are Finch Farm (Nah) of the Murtagh Division, Needham (JP) and Providence (Sal) in the Williams Division, and Braintree (NB) in the Yastrzemski Division.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - The vote is in and Devin Ghoul, the 20-year-old right fielder for Everett, is the winner. Today he was honored with the Legends League Batter of the Month award.

In May, Ghoul wowed voters with a .436 average while posting 7 home runs, 22 RBIs, 25 runs scored and a .495 on-base percentage.

For the year Ghoul has hit .412 with 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and scored 43 runs.

SL Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Massachusetts Minor League, Mountainside Rockhand put up some good numbers in May and earned the SL Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Braintree's offensive leaders with a .413 average in 23 games. He also racked up 13 home runs, 37 RBIs, and 26 runs scored.

Rockhand is currently hitting at a .384 pace with 17 home runs, 47 RBIs and has scored 35 times.

LL Pitcher - Jimmy Capcollector of Abernathy had an award-winning May as he took home the Legends League Pitcher of the Month award.

"He told me once people used to make fun of the way he pitches," Capcollector's pitching coach told reporters. "There wasn't anybody laughing in May except for Jimmy."

Capcollector was all business when he took the mound though, collecting a 5-1 record in 6 starts. He struck out 30 batters in 46 innings and kept opponents to a .231 batting average.

To date this year in 10 starts, Capcollector has crafted a 7-2 mark with a 1.96 ERA.

SL Pitcher - The top-rated pitcher this past month in the Stars League was Danny Janssen of the Castle Strength. He really dominated league hitters, finishing May with a 3-1 won-lost mark and a 2.30 ERA.

The Strength ace made 4 starts and surrendered 21 hits in 31.1 innings. He struck out 35 and walked 4.

In 8 starts this season, Janssen has picked up 3 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 51.2 innings, allowed 44 hits, struck out 53 and posted a 3.48 ERA.
