Thank you cmmcgill , A Cardinal since the 70's I had never seen an image of Steve Broege. A prospect who fell short through fault of his own. Thank you.

Thank you bow!

Wallace Carney
Responding to Pinson's offer of help in finding a photo of a white whale (or anyone else please), I'd like a photo of pitcher Wallace "Chief" Carney who was on the Chicago White Sox spring roster in 1926. He remained with them early in the season, and wasn't sent down until May 2, so he qualifies as a phantom major leaguer. He was a Native American, a member of the Creek tribe. Other details are available in his baseball-reference and Sporting News records linked below.

Wallace Carney ??
May be Carney , might not be....
From the 1923 Ardmore Snappers team photo.....looks a bit like cmcgill's image and he was the only player who had a darker complexion. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a756e17e_n.jpg |

Thanks for the help, cmcgill and bobw. Wallace Carney was said to have borne some resemblance to Chief Bender, so I think the guess about the Ardmore player is a good one. Nevertheless, for my own use, I'll stick with the known identification in the Wichita uniform.

Lefty Lovelace
Here's another request for help in finding a decent photo of a player's face.
Horace "Lefty" Lovelace was a pitcher who appeared on the Washington Senators' spring roster in 1946. He did a lot of pitching around his home town in Pennsylvania, and his name appeared frequently in the newspapers. The only photo I've managed to find shows him standing in the background as a coach at Loch Haven University watching a prospect perform on the mound. The shot is not a clear view of his face. He died on Jan. 31, 2001 in Woolrich, PA. His Baseball-reference record is at: https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=lovela001hor His Sporting News contact card is at: https://digital.la84.org/digital/col...d/145393/rec/1 Thanks, in advance, for any help on this. |
