10 May 2297 - O'Dell Sidelined

Vault 81 3B Terry O'Dell has dreams of a different future than his father, a farmer, Induh O'Dell. Instead, Terry has plans to be an animal doctor. Well, those plans seem to have harmed his baseball career so far, as O'Dell was bitten on his hand by an albino mongrel in the Vault 81 animal shelter.

The facility, located in the "new" section of Vault 81 was originally a laboratory for studying infectious diseases. Marie Curie uses it for non-invasive animal testing and an animal petting zoo. Curie has indicated that all animals in the shelter are germ-free, so a bite would mean an injury with little to no chance of infection. Still, O'Dell's injury is significant enough.

Manager Monitor may need to outlaw this practice

Manager Crow Monitor expressed disgust to hear that his cleanup hitter had his hand mauled and will miss at least a month. "Who the **** thinks it's a good idea to train a ******* mongrel? They're vicious wild dogs for a ******** reason."

Monitor indicated he may need to work with Dr. Jacob Forsythe and general manager Mike McGuire to add language to players' contracts about dangerous activities.

"We already have our catcher out [Ronald Raygun] after he wanted to get political," Monitor said, "and now we lost our best hitter to a damn dog. How are we supposed to win?"

O'Dell is batting .281 on the season with 4 home runs and 8 RBI. The 4th-round pick in the 2296 Inaugural Draft, he finished 2296 with a .380/11/49 line.

10 May 2296 - Players of the Week

Sean Koester Wins BL Trophy: One of the league's most exciting young players, Sean Koester of the County Crossing Bloodbugs earned himself Brotherhood League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 19-year-old shortstop had a lofty .571 average (8-for-14), collecting 1 home run, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

This year Koester is hitting .357 with 2 home runs.

Erb Sticks it to IL Pitchers: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the Institute League, but last week Dan Erb of the Concord Radstags reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Erb rocked opposing pitching for a .727 average (8-for-11), 1 home run and 9 RBIs to come away with the award.

So far this season Erb is hitting .418 with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 23 hits in 55 at-bats and a .515 OBP.

Seaweed Week's Best Player: So far in his young career, David Seaweed has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the Minutemen League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.

The 19-year-old Jamaica Plain Red Rockets right fielder hit at a torrid .462 clip as he collected 6 hits in 13 at-bats, 1 home run, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

So far this year, Seaweed is batting .365 with 3 home runs and 12 RBIs.

Shaw HS's Beebe RL Star of the Week: Damani Beebe has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 18-year-old right fielder of the Shaw HS Knuckle Punchers had a hot bat in the Railroad League over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Beebe batted .636 with 7 hits in 11 at-bats, 2 home runs and 9 RBIs.

Currently Beebe is batting .361 with 6 home runs and 26 RBIs.

11 May 2296 - Aldo Sanch Suspended by Jamaica Plain

Rookie third-round pick Aldo Sanch has been suspended for the remainder of the 2297 season due to questionable activities.

A spokesman for Jamaica Plain contacted us from Kasumi Nakano's office stating that Sanch was suspected in participating in illegal activity and would be given the time to get his personal and legal affairs in order.

A team of investigators from the Brotherhood of Steel arrived at the team facilities at Haymarket Mall to take Sanch into custody. We were given no indications of what those legal matters may entail, but they were severe enough to have Sanch's reputation tainted.

In six appearances as the Haymarket Mall Commandos' closer, Sanch has pitched 5.2 innings for a 1-1 record with one save and a 9.53 ERA.

Settlements Today

by Nat Wright-Kowalski

11 May 2297 - Fort Hagen

On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 season, we will feature one of the settlements, teams, and owners of the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. This is meant to tell you more about life in the Commonwealth, as well as give you more information about the teams and their owners. These will be done at Nat Wright-Kowalski's availability

In our twenty-first installment of "Settlements Today," we visited a former military base area, Fort Hagen. The entire area is referred to as the Fort Hagen Township.

There is not a lot known about the township before the war, but it seemed to be a point west of Boston dealing with power armor storage facilities. Nate Howard said that he was not familiar with that base, even though he was a decorated member of the army pre-War. According to Nate, "Judging by the warehouses at the base and the presence of armored vehicles and multiple power armor stations, it seems Fort Hagen was home to units from one of the US Army armored divisions."

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1596851795
Fort Hagen - 2288

Nate first encountered the fort in pursuit of his son. There he confronted the man, Conrad Kellogg, who kidnapped his son and murdered his wife. Nate left the fort after the encounter and did not return before it was suggested as a franchise location for the CBO.

Today, there has not been a lot of progress on updating the lay of the land. Settlers are still giving in conditions similar to what the settlements were like 10 years ago. Fort Hagen is far away from other settlements and there has not been as much interest in settling the areas as some places much closer to Boston and more convenient. On the brightside, Fort Hagen is closer to the transport to Nuka World, so settlers there can travel to Nuka World a bit more easily than they can from Boston.

The one new facility is that Isabel Cruz added a robot production factory attached to the Red Rocket that produces most of the settlement's export revenue. The Red Rocket station also doubles as a robotics service center.

The Fort Hagen Township is made of the fort, which doubles as the main living quarters, a barracks where some have settled, an administration building, a Red Rocket, a bar, a bus station, a mall that has recently been converted into more of a shopping palace than the living quarters it previously was, a swimming pool, a playground, a blood clinic that doubles as a simple hospital, and an armory storage facility. Nearby is the Fort Hagen Satellite Array.

BosCom has approached Fort Hagen mayor Fred O'Connell about using the Fort Hagen Satellite Array as a broadcast point west of Boston. It would send out a strong signal as far north as Sunshine Tidings Co-op, east to Oberland Station, and south to Lake Cochituate.

Owner - Isabel Cruz, aka the Mechanist

According to a terminal entry, "Always talented with robotics, Isabel Cruz descended from a settlement plagued by raiders and super mutants.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1596851795
Isabel Cruz as the Mechanist

"Inspired by drawings of the comic books and radio show character, the Mechanist, Isabel decided to use her skills for the betterment of the Commonwealth. Discovering a pre-War factory originally run in a juncture of private industry and the military, she set her plan in motion. Using the factory, she began constructing her robot "allies" to help the people of the Commonwealth, pacifying areas by killing raiders and other hostiles. Due to a logic error made by her robobrain lieutenants, the robots would kill everyone they encountered. This led to an attack on Ada's caravan, resulting in their call for help across the Commonwealth."

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1596851813
Isabel Cruz unmasked

After Isabel Cruz retired from her misled life as the Mechanist, she realized that Nate had given her beyond just the gift of her freedom. Using her knowledge in robot design and radio signals, she returned to her Mechanist past by truly doing good in the Commonwealth. Nate Howard suggested that she move her operations to Fort Hagen, which proved to be a key location in eradicating the Rust Devils gang. Later, after the Commonwealth was won, Nate introduced Isabel to the ghoul Kent Connolly, the man with the foremost knowledge on the Mechanist. Kent was an expert on all of the pre-war comic book characters of the Hubris Comics world, including the Silver Shroud.

A World of Comic Book Characters Coming to Life

Kent Connolly was not only an expert on the Unstoppables line of characters, but a major fan of the Shroud. After making peace in the Commonwealth, Nate Howard personally helped Kent fix up the Hubris Comics shop near the Charles River. There, Kent started his own Unstoppables radio broadcasts through a revamped Galaxy News Radio signal and began producing and selling Unstoppables merchandise to the Commonwealth. He was happy to team up with Isabel Cruz in a hero-villain partnership to push the Hubris Comics brand and bring the Shroud and other Unstoppables mascots to the CBO.

https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...1&d=1596851813
Kent Connolly in front of his radio

That partnership has now expanded to the BosCom TV's HCU multiverse where it has been revealed that the Mechanist will have several storylines, including a featured TV series. Connolly has used some of his original radio broadcasts, as well as some of the pre-War Shroud radio broadcasts, to shape his Shroud-based dramas. It has not been revealed who will play the characters in the series, but the Shroud series is thought to be finished. Witnesses said that they thought Nate Howard himself was playing the Shroud but it was difficult to know for sure. It has also been rumored that Isabel Cruz will be the Mechanist in the TV shows.

In all, the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud probably have the most interesting team mascot and corporate sponsor, which is sure to make the team a lot more popular throughout the Commonwealth. In fact, Super-Duper Mart has announced that its next line of products will be Shroud-based.

Finally, Fort Hagan on Settlements Today. Given it's not a buildable location, was interested to see what became of it.

Also, I guess once you're done with the main settlements, there's still the minor league locations to cover for those articles. (Hopefully ;) )

According to sources inside the organization, University Point will ship 25-year-old LF Sam Farland to Vault 81 for 26-year-old RHP Danny Hitless and 29-year-old minor league 2B Flunk Domino.

Hitless appeared in eight games for the Dwellers, pitching 18 innings. The 17th-round pick in the Inaugural Draft has an ERA of 3.50.

Domino was a regular on the Dwellers in 2296, appearing in 38 games and starting 19 at second base. However, he was demoted to the minor league unit, the Mass Pike Interchange Robobrains, in 2297. In 15 starts, he was batting .264 with a home run and 5 RBI. He was originally drafted in the 20th round of the 2296 Inaugural Draft by Finch Farm. However he was released and then claimed by Vault 81 before the start of the season.

It could have been a different outcome for The Slog, had it not been for OK Dustin, the 23-year old left fielder . Dustin contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put The Slog up, 1-0.

"We'll savor this win," Dustin told the The Slog Observer, "then get ready for the next game."

Yes, I did not find anything other than a base settlement for Fort Hagen, but there is something at least.

As far as Settlements Today, there are 27 to go! I made a list, with the "real" settlements getting priority for the BMU since it will be easier to find good builds. So among the first, there are: Taffington Boathouse, Outpost Zimonja, Bunker Hill, Mystic Pines (which has a nice mod for that I play with and make this one of my main bases), and Greentop Nursery. I have not fully looked, but I am hoping some of the other places have some kind of mod build. Breakheart Banks should have been a settlement. Cabot House will be easy. Fiddler's Green Trailer Park and Charles View Ampitheater should work.

16 May 2297 - Abernathy Rookie Taking Leave

Bradberton-signee Shop Pour, a rookie infielder for Abernathy's minor league team the Bunker Hill Gun Fu, is taking a leave of absence. Pour simply said, "I'm not feeling it."

Bunker Hill manager Brent Bellemare said that they would respect Pour's request and give him a chance to cool off. "He's going to take a trip back to his home in Bradberton, maybe go take a ride on the roller coasters. Then he's going to let us know if he's coming back or staying home."

In two appearances with the Gun Fu, Pour is 2 for 3 with a run scored.

16 May 2297 - Nordhagen Beach Considering Call Up

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys are struggling as a team. With a 6-12 record, pitching can be the biggest blame on the last-place start 30% through the 2297 season.

The Party Boys are last or near the bottom in all pitching categories in the Brotherhood League, including last in runs allowed (128), Starters ERA (7.32), and Bullpen ERA (4.91). That seems like changes are needed. Since there are no current pitching prospects to save the day, though, the Boys may need to make a different change.

According to a source close to the organization, one change that Nordhagen Beach could make is to help produce more runs. The Boys are doing well in that category, 3rd in the BL in runs scored (106), 3rd in batting average (.303), and 2nd in home runs (26). However, they are struggling at the bottom of the lineup where 3B Tommy Talkington is batting .176, though he does have 4 home runs and 12 RBI, and SS Taboo Richardson is batting .183 with a home run and 5 RBI.

Ryan Combs, currently playing with the Greentop Nursery Night People, whom the Party Boys acquired in a trade in 2296, has been hitting well. On the season, he is batting .338, going 22 for 65 with five doubles, 13 runs, and 10 RBI. He has walked 15 times and struck out 11.

While Combs is best suited as a second baseman, he can play any infield position in a pinch. Also, the Party Boys' leadoff hitter Brian Masterson could move to shortstop if needed, allowing Combs to slot in at 2B. That would not make the defense as strong, but it should make the offense more efficient.

We will see if Nordhagen Beach does make the move, but scoring more runs could help balance the pitching deficit. In our opinion, it would be a good move to shake up the team and get it on the right path.

2297 - Week 6 in Review

4 Attachment(s)
Analysis

Last week we did a break down of three of the leagues and their current playoff races. That has not changed, so we are going to concentrate on the most jumbled league, the Railroad League.

At 14-4, the Oberland T-51s seem to pull away more from the pack each week. That does not bode well for the team that has to face the T-51s each week. Oberland has won every series this season. The next unlucky opponent is Vault 81. We will write about Vault 81, but they may being looking up more than they currently are at the end of last week.

Right now, the two teams in the playoff race at the top of the wildcard chase are Fairline Hill Estates and Egret. Both teams are currently 9-9. with the Dwellers and Shaw Knuckle Punchers right behind at 8-10. Diamond City is not considered to be in the race, though the Swatters are only three back of the wildcard at 6-12.

The Yao Guai seem to have a slight edge in the power rankings over Egret due to a 2-1 season advantage, so we will start by looking at them. At this time, FHE is tied for runs scored (115) and are 2nd in runs allowed (103), meaning they are doing it right in all areas. SS Hose Wallcrawler has been outstanding on offense, batting .377 with 6 home runs and 21 RBI. LF Adam Crook has also been good in average and power, with a .368/5/20 line. At the top of the lineup, Noah Arch is batting .405. For pitching, Bow Rome has mixed results with a 3-3 record and a 3.38 ERA. The bullpen has the RL's best ERA at 3.79 with Tommie Lightbulb and Bus Paula getting the job done.

For the Scrappers, the stats do not look as good. Egret is 4th in runs scored (109) and tied for 3rd in runs against (119). Their best stat is leading the RL in home runs (33). The team is led by all-world LF Paladin Danse. He is batting with a .365/10/24 line. RF Crops Gerdenheimer is also doing well (.414/7/18). Ace Phil Wallace is struggling considerably this season. He is 2-3 with a 9.93 ERA. Nick Poppa (2-2, 4.38) and Ronnie Gipper (2-1, 5.32) are picking up the slack.

Vault 81 is looking bad in stats categories, so improvement could mean that the Dwellers surge into the wildcard slot. Currently the Dwellers are 5th in runs scored (100) and 6th in runs allowed (125). On offense, RF Deer Quickwalker has been the offense (.493/3/12). 1B Erns Gold has added a .278/6/22 line. None of the starters are pitching particularly well, but ace Curt Redcoats is 2-4 with a 5.88 ERA to give the team some chance in Day 1 games.

The final playoff contender from the RL is Shaw. The Knuckle Punchers have found their niche with their offense - 1st in the BL in runs scored (125). Their pitching is holding them down, though, with all three starters with a plus-7 ERA. LF Rocky Gourd leads the team in batting average at .420. RF Damani Beebe continually produces (.387/8/32). 3B Grognak Inman is not far behind in production (.366/7/18). In all, five starters are batting over .300 to help the entire team batting average of .314 (1st in RL).

Though they stumbled a bit lately, glad to see my prediction that Starlight would do well is still holding solid. Also good to see Fort Hagan not last, though mostly because Abernathy is just bad, not through any merit of their own unfortunately.

Anyone who's reading this and is interested in Fallout should check out the sales on Steam right now. All the titles are on sale for huge discounts.

I'll echo this. You don't even need that beefy a computer to run even the latest games (though it helps). They are rather large downloads though. But if that's not your thing, starting with Fallout 1 or 2 is still loads of fun, even though they're 90s top down games that can run on a potato. Asking certain segments of the fan base, they'll even tell you 1 and 2 are "better".

I don't feel as though Fort Hagen is out of this league. It feels to me that there will be some ups and downs for every team in the league. Like Nordhagen Beach, the Shroud's pitching has to just be average and this team will be much better.

I don't count Abernathy out, either. Their stats are not that bad, but their luck has. On the opposite end of that, Starlight's stats are good but not great in relation to the division. So the Killers could drop bak in the pack so to speak.

19 May 2297 - Easy City Starts Moneylines

Easy City Downs is trying its luck at running more sophisticated bets on the Commonwealth Baseball Organization. The race track/gambling hub has come to agreement with the CBO to run official lines on games. Commissioner Nate Howard approved the moneyline betting style with a few agreements that Easy City Downs must make.

Representatives from each team also agreed in a 22-2 vote to adhere to the rules Howard put into place. The votes were kept anonymous.

Easy City Downs will run a limited moneyline on Brotherhood League games starting this weekend. They will then plan to run the entire monelyine for the CBO. We at Publick Occurrences may run the lines during weekly prints but have agreed not to focus on "lines" in our coverage of the sport.

The players representatives agreed to the following:
1. No player shall gamble on baseball. A violation results in a one-year suspension for first offense and a lifetime suspension for a second offense. Multiple offenses discovered at one time would also result in a lifetime suspension.

2. No player shall enter Easy City Downs or associate with employees of Easy City Downs during the regular season. Playoff teams cannot enter Easy City Downs or associate with employees of Easy City Downs until after their teams have been eliminated.

3. Team personnel must abide by the same rules as players.

Howard also created a Gambling Compliance Committee that will oversee bets on games and run numbers against the games. The committee has insight on how and why lines are set and can compare numbers to show any incongruencies that could indicate unethical practices, like teams shaving runs or other statistical anomalies.

Below are the moneylines and an explanation of the gambling rules. Anyone interested in placing official bets on the games must do so at Easy City Downs. No offsite bets will be allowed:

<table><tbody><tr><th>Teams</th><th>Records</th><th>Lines</th></tr><tr><td>ET</td><td>9-9</td><td>+150</td></tr><tr><td>@Slog</td><td>11-7</td><td>-170</td></tr></table>

<table><tbody><tr><th>Teams</th><th>Records</th><th>Lines</th></tr><tr><td>CC</td><td>11-7</td><td>-160</td></tr><tr><td>@NB</td><td>6-12</td><td>+130</td></tr></table>

<table><tbody><tr><th>Teams</th><th>Records</th><th>Lines</th></tr><tr><td>SAL</td><td>7-11</td><td>+200</td></tr><tr><td>@FF</td><td>10-8</td><td>-200</td></tr></table>

In the games you see above, the teams with a + in front of their lines are the teams favored to lose. Teams with a - are favored to win. For Thursday's games, The Slog, County Crossing, and Finch Farm are all favored to win. Finch Farm has the widest favorite, even without homefield factors, meaning they can be expected to win by upwards of five runs.

In the case of runs, the moneylines do not differentiate. A one-run win pays the same as a ten-run win. In the case of the biggest favorites, the moneylines are the same. Betting 100 caps on Salem with a Salem victory means a 200-cap payout. A person who bets on Finch Farm must pay 200 caps to win 100 caps. If that person lays down 100 caps on the Four Leafs, he would be paid 50 caps should Finch Farm win.

Got it, Commonwealth? Lucky Lou and Benji Capcuts hope you will be at the tracks Thursday afternoon to place your bets. Remember, the house mostly wins, but who knows? It could be your day to become king of the caps!

To prepare you for a new revenue stream, remember that "Grandma Plays the Numbers"! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m136JOv3z6w
