Attached is a 1924 image of veteran pitcher Sherry Smith with the Cleveland Indians. Smith was a hurler who pitched left handed and batted right. In his Major League career which spanned 16 years he won 114 games but was slightly below .500 with 118 losses.

His career did not get off to the most auspicious of starts as in his only appearance in 1911 with the Pittsburgh Pirates he ended with a season ERA of 54.00 after allowing 4 earned runs in less than an inning pitched in a mop-up role on May 11th becoming the 3,500th Major League player in history. In 1912 he pitched just 4 innings spread over 3 games with the Pirates.

In 1915 he reappeared with the Brooklyn Dodgers where he stayed until an in season move to the Cleveland Indians in 1922. In 1915 he established himself in the Dodgers starting rotation posting the most impressive won loss record of his career, 14-8 along with a 2.59 ERA. Very solid again in 1916 with an 2.34 ERA and a 14-10 record, including a career high 4 shutouts. Broke even in 1917 with a 12-12 record and then was absent in 1918. Returned in 1919 posting a 7-12 record despite a then career low 2.24 ERA. Reduced that ERA even lower to a career best 1.85 in 1920 but his reward was a mere two games over .500 at 11-9. His ERA more than doubled in 1921 and in 1922 moved to the Indians, appearing in 2 games after 28 appearances with the Dodgers.

His move to Cleveland appeared to be beneficial. In 1924 he made a career high 27 starts , increasing that to 30 the following season. In 1925 he led the American League with 22 complete games despite also leading the League in hits allowed and earned runs with a consequential 4.86 ERA. He maintained a place with the Indians in its starting rotation in 1926 before making just 2 starts in his final season of 1927.

Attached is a 1924 Detroit Tigers image of Rip Collins featuring the 1924 cap.

Right handed pitcher Rip Collins made his debut in 1920 with the New York Yankees. He is not to be confused with first-baseman Ripper Collins whose career overlapped for just the final year of the pitcher's Major League career in 1931.

In his initial season Collins posted a career high 14 wins which was to be equalled subsequently in 2 different years. That year he was somewhat wild leading the League in hit batsmen. Effective in 1921, also, when he posted a 11-5 record. In 1922 he started 29 games for the Boston Red Sox, again posting 14 victories. Joining the Detroit Tigers in 1923 he had his most unproductive season but he rebounded in 1924 to notch 14 wins for the third time. 1924 would probably be identified as his best year, posting career highs in winning percentage, innings pitched and starts. 1925 was certainly a down year finishing 6-11. In 1926 he was limited to 13 starts but posted his lowest seasonal ERA. He went 13-7 with 25 starts in 1927.

1928 Collins was absent from the Majors but returned with the St.Louis Browns in 1929. In 1930 Collins made 20 starts as he did the previous year posting a combined 20-13 record over those 2 seasons. In his final season Collins went 5-5 from 14 starts.

His career record was 108-82. He won more games with the Tigers than any other team, 44. He won a total of 25 games with both the Yankees and Browns. His career ERA was exactly 4.00, completing 83 of his 219 starts.

Attached is a 1924 image of 1969 Hall Of Fame inductee Waite Hoyt with the New York Yankees.

Hoyt made just 1 appearance in his debut season of 1918 with the New York Giants. He faced just 3 batters and struckout 2 of them. This was no late season call up as it took place in July. An impressive debut but it was 14 years before the 18 year old pitched again with the Giants. He joined the Boston Red Sox the following year and started 11 games in both of the 2 seasons he spent with them.

Joining the New York Yankees in 1921 he established himself immediately as a mainstay of the rotation. A 19 game winner he completed 21 of his 32 starts and pitched a career high 282 plus innings. In 1922 he repeated as a 19 game winner and posted a career high 3 shutouts, a surprisingly low figure, for the first time. He posted a 17-9 record in 1923 and a League leading high in WHIP, which typified his style of making outs through contact rather than strikeouts. Went 18-13 in 1924 matching his career high of 32 starts from 1921. Suffered a losing record for the only time in his Yankee career in 1925. Recovered with a 16-12 record in 1926 the prelude before his career year of 1927. For the first time in his career was the team leader in wins and thereby established himself as the top pitcher on what many view as the best team in baseball history. Also led the league with his 22 wins and in winning percentage, posted his career best of a 2.63 ERA while matching his career high of 3 shutouts and set a career high of 23 complete games. He improved his win total to 23 in 1928 and also improved his winning percentage as his number of losses stayed at 7 but his ERA jumped to 3.36. Remarkably he also led the American League in saves notching 8. His win total dropped to 10 in 1929 and after 7 starts in 1930 he moved to the Detroit Tigers starting 20 more games.

1931 was again a season split between 2 teams as he made 16 appearances for both the Tigers and the Philadelphia Athletics, 10 of his 13 wins being with the A's. 1932 was another split season with the Brooklyn Dodgers and back again with the Giants. In 1933 Hoyt joined the Pittsburgh Pirates where he stayed until 1937. 1934 was by far his most productive season with them going 15-6 and setting his career high with 105 strikeouts. His ERA was almost identical to the previous season 2.93 from 2.92 but his won loss record improved dramatically from 5-7 in 1933. In 1937 after starting out the season with the Pirates he returned to the Dodgers. In 1938 he went winless with the Dodgers in 3 decisions.

Hoyt won 237 victories in his career based more on consistency and longevity than brilliance. He was never higher than 10th in MVP consideration.

Lane's Major League career consisted of 7 games with the 1924 Braves. In 15 at bats he managed just 1 hit, accompanied by a walk. He started 3 games all at third-base.

Right handed pitcher George Murray's Major League career spanned a duration of 11 years but only in 6 did he appear in the big leagues. He made his debut with the 1922 New York Yankees appearing in 22 games, 20 in relief. He joined the Boston Red Sox in 1923 setting a career high with 7 wins. He pitched over 177 innings more than double than in any other season. In 1924 his starts fell from 18 to 7 as he posted a 2-9 with Boston.

After a year absence he returned in 1926 with the Washington Senators as he started all of his 12 appearances with a 6-3 record. He appeared in just 7 games for the Senators the following year. Then after a 6 year break he finished his career with the 1933 Chicago White Sox, appearing just twice.
